4 Wheel problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 09/24/2018

While driving down a mountain road with a 5th wheel attached it appeared that the rear brakes on the drivers side were smoking, I pulled over to allow it to cool. We found a GMC dealership and proceeded there very slowly stopping a number of times to allow the brakes to cool down. 2 miles short of GMC, there was a loud pop and a tire had blown. We pulled over and while calling roadside assistance noticed fire under the truck. We put it out with a fire extinguisher before the fire department arrived. We were towed to the dealership. The brake caliper came apart, the rear axle broke (possibly melted from heat and fire?). Gm initially stated 4 days to repair, now they they are saying 3 weeks as they have to build a new axle. If we had not had the extinguisher the truck, RV and meadow would have all gone up in flames and who knows the disaster that could have occurred if this happened on the mountain road. This vehicle only has 17,000 miles, 11 months old and has had all routine maintenance performed at GMC dealers. I have more pictures but am unable to upload them.

7 Wheel problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/24/2017

Chrome wheel corrosion. Critical location around valve stem creating air leak in valve stem. Could create low enough pressure to effect handling in emergency situation. Luckily mine was a slow leak, but the only fix is wheel replacement at extreme cost and a lengthy replacement process leaving the owner with choice of unsafe use, or losing use of the vehicle during the process. Initial first aid was to clean the stem hole of corrosion, use a sealant around the new valve stem, with no guarantee of a safe fix and an upcoming 2 week trip to upper ontario canada in fully loaded vehicle.

8 Wheel problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/16/2017

8 speed transmission bucks, hesitates, lurches forward, clunks, while startung acceleration or coming to a stop. I try to keep a big gap between my truck and cars in front of me at stop signs because it randomly lurches forward and I almost have bumped cars in front of me. I have had the truck into the dealer so manu times to fix the vibration issues as well, they said 3 tires that came in the brand new truck were defective so I had to replace them all and the shake is still there, the balanced, rebalanced, road force balance and nothing works. Last time at the dealer said it is probably the tires, he said dont rotate them again and when they wear out he will put me in a better tire. I am past my warranty so the dealer says any costs are my responsibilitt, if the NHTSA could please step in to assist us to make gm fic theae vehicles which are a safety hazard.

9 Wheel problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

I have goodyear wrangler sr-a 265 60r20 tires on my Sierra denali hd 2500. I was on the way back from nc via I-95 and pulled over so my wife could nurse our 3 week old. Me and the boys went in k-mart for a few minutes. Upon returning and getting back on the road, I noticed my car was pulling bad right and the steering wheel was shaking very badly. I managed to drive it the additional 30 miles back home. When I started the truck the next morning, the steering wheel shake was too bad to continue anywhere but the dealership. I drove to the dealership and they said that the tires would be covered under my existing "bumper to bumper" warranty as the dealership noticed that there was a huge bulge in the tire which was causing all of the commotion. Upon further inspection, it was noted that the front right tire also had bulges, these in the sidewall where the tire meets the rim. The dot batch number is #pj6ka5iv 32/11 and both tires were from the same batch. I was driving around with two defective tires!!!!!!! with my 8 year son, 4 year old son, 3 week old daughter and my wife. This is unacceptable! our lives were at risk! imagine my surprise when the dealership called the following morning and said that gm had "changed their policies and they would only be giving me a 30% discount. " I understand policy but these tires only measured little wear and should have at least 55% more tread life based on the exact tire measurements. Instead, gm is using a sliding scale for mileage that does not take actual measurements into their assessment. So now, I am out $350 for 2 new tires that should have lasted a whole lot longer and no help from goodyear or GMC.

Cause was the rusted rear brake line that ruptured. Cost to fix was $400. 00 in addition, on 12. 27. 13, I had the front wheel bearing replaced at a cost of $525. 00. The truck only has 66,600 miles on it.

12 Wheel problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/27/2013

Pirelli scorpion tires, size p255/70r16, bought 7/11/2007 from tirerack. Com. At 21,000 miles, tires are showing severe weather cracking, very similar to what I experienced with my Ford explorer during the firestone tire recall in 2000. Tire racks warranty specifically states tires with weather cracking which were purchased more than 4 years prior to presentation for adjustment are not covered by the warranty. Although there is ample tread life left, these tires are simply no longer safe.

13 Wheel problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

While the vehicle was being driven, it just went dead, no engine, no electric, no nothing. The vehicle was left in place and at some point, caught fire and burned. A total loss. To date, the insurance company has not paid me for my loss but rather has gone to great lengths to investigate me personally, looking for any reason to not pay. So, I've been making two vehicle payments for the last 8 months. As a result, I am struggling financially.

17 Wheel problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup with disc brakes on all four wheels. The parking brake is a horseshoe shaped brake shoe that is to grab a brake drum designed into the rear wheel rotor. I have used the parking brake about five times( exaggerated) in the life of my truck. When the brake failed to hold I thought nothing of it, as I rarely used it. Recently on an unrelated repair I had occasion to remove and inspect my rear rotors. The brake shoe for the parking brake repositioned itself and has been rubbing on the brake drum portion of the rotor causing it to wear the lining of the drum . Very little wear occurred to the parking brake shoe. The design of the shoe its position on the drum created a basin wear particles accumulated inside the worn area of the drum creating even faster wear to the surface. After 180000 miles on my vehicle I have the original disc brake pads in relatively good shape and if I hadn't had the other repair to perform I would not have removed the dic brake rotor on the rear wheels to learn that about half of the drum material had been won through on one side and less so on the other side. I was not subject to recall 05042b (NHTSA action number ea04011) and I was not aware of the previous issue with the parking brakes. If I continued to use the vehicle in unadulterated manner my wheel rotor would wear through and the wheel fall off at a time of its own choosing. . I spoke with my local Chevrolet dealer and asked about applicable recalls regarding the parking brake on the pickups and he told me that he knew of no such issues.

The failure mileage was 35,000 and current mileage was 47,000. Updated 06/25/08. Updated 06/25/08.

Failure Date: 11/27/2002

The spare tire holder broke off and the spare tire was released from the undercarriage of the truck onto the roadway. This could have resulted in a very serious accident if it had occurred on a major highway at a faster speed. An inspection of the failed assembly shows that it is held up by a single thin steel cable, which was broken, allowing the assembly to release the spare tire and wheel. Dt.
