Headlight lighting is useless, night driving is dangerous. Light output is so low/dim that it is easy to out drive the headlights. High beam is no better as it just disperses the beam actually making it appear dimmer. Something needs to be done to address this concern before someone gets injured by these unsafe headlights.
While driving in town at 25 mph, almost hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road due to insufficient headlamps on the truck. This was ever with the fog lamps on which seem to put out more light then the headlights. . Extremely dangerous. . . Have to rely on the street lamps to see where we are going when driving in town. . Disappointed to my wits end that the dealer tells me that there isn't any fix for this yet.
From the factory the headlights that come on this vehicle are sub-standard and a safety hazard when operating at night. Not only is light output poor, but the width of the beam is horrible. When turning at night there is zero coverage and you have to make your turn without being able to see properly. These problems persist at any time headlights need to be utilized.
Extremely poor/unsafe headlights. I have been dealing with this issue since purchased new. "lurking" in forums and complaint web sites assuming a fix would be forthcoming. I guess not. Insufficient lighting at night in rural settings with no ambient light. Cannot see anywhere near the distance required to drive safely at posted limits and non-existent side lighting. 2 near misses with deer grazing on side of road as proof. I spent the money for good auxiliary driving lights and a light bar to put them on but are only useful with no oncoming traffic. Current replacement bulbs/bcm reprogram cause limited improvement with significant increase in bulb failure frequency. 2016 redesign eliminated these lights and retrofit to 2014/15 hardware is available. Gm should step up!.
The headlights are so dim that it makes driving in dark conditions inbreeding dangerous, even at low speeds the illumination is unacceptable.
Of all the vehicles I have owned, this 2014 GMC has the worst headlights of them all. . $47,000 and basically a bic lighter on the front of the truck for lights. . While out driving on my way back from fort kent, with the truck on high beam I nearly hit a moose that I didn't see until I was right on it due to not having enough light down the road. . Have to drive 40 not to outrun the headlights. Very very frustrating and the dealer tells us that gm knows about it but has no fix. .
Very poor performance from the headlights.
Defective headlights. Very poor visibility when driving after sundown. Unsafe to drive my truck at night. $42,000 and dealer has no fix. Also no response from gm. Have appointment to see my attorney.
Visibility from headlights are very poor at night. Very bad safety hazard if not corrected by GMC!!.
My 2014 GMC sierra has very dim head lights, very difficult to determine your own lane at times in the dark. Almost impossible to see when it's raining at night. Many times I've had to double check to make sure my headlights were on because there so dim it doesn't seem like there on at all. It makes for very nerve racking driving at night. Something needs to be done about these headlights, it's very dangerous for GMC drivers and other vehicles on the road. . Test drive one in the rain at night out in the country. . Not in town , with street lights!!!.
Headlights on 2014 Sierra 1500 are horrible. Do not project very far down the road and the brights do not do anything but light up the tops of trees. At dusk, dawn, or when raining is particularly bad. On more than one occasion driving in small towns or in traffic I thought the lights were actually off they are so dim. I took it to the dealer shortly after I got the truck in September of 2013 and they said they adjusted them but it didn't do anything. I have continued to have problems and it seems like they are getting even dimmer now. Very disappointed. . . Someone is going to have a wreck one of these days because of these as you cannot see what is in the road 100 feet ahead. At 55 mph that could be a death sentence.
The headlights do not light the road. No light on the side of road. I have missed my driveway and came very close to driving into a ditch. When driving down or up grades the road is in complete darkness. I have gave gm a year to fix the safety issue but they do nothing is correct the problem. When raining the problem is ten times greater. This truck should not be driven at night, people will get injured or killed.
Headlights are very dim, not excited about driving in the dark, might as well use a flashlight.
Headlights are unsafe for night driving. High beam also does not help the illumination issues. Driving in the rain at night is scary the lights are dim, and do not light up surrounding areas. Took truck to dealership, they kept it for 3 months put new bulbs in, and I still will not drive the truck at night, especially with my family with me. Spent 45k on truck and cant drive it at night. I have tried different bulbs, brands, looked for solutions, and still have yet to find any help.
Headlights are worthless. On low beam less than 95' of forward area lite up. At 55 mph, that gives you about a second for reaction time. Just a little better on high beam. Peripheral lighting is worse.
The headlights on my 2014 GMC Sierra 1500, that I bought last week, are extremely weak. They have no projection to the sides of the road and only project forward maybe 30 ft. At 55 mph at night is asking for an accident to happen. I haven't driven it in rain or snow yet and not looking forward to that. Gm needs a recall before winter sets in.
I would like to alert gm that the illumination from the headlights on the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 slt is in my opinion, insufficient and dangerous. On several occasions since purchasing my vehicle in September 2014, I have had to double check to see if my headlights were on while driving at night. The pattern of illumination emitted from the headlights does not provide the vehicle operator with an adequate amount of lighting, especially on the sides of the road to prevent potential collisions with bicyclists and walking pedestrians. I happen to live in a somewhat rural area, that requires driving on roads and highways that do not have adequate street lighting and in some areas no street lights at all. This problem of poor quality headlights is a safety issue in my opinion.
The headlights on the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 are not adequate for night time rural driving. On 7 oct 2014 at approx. 5:30am a deer ran into the side of my truck hitting just behind the driver's side front wheel because I was not able to see it in time to avoid hitting it because of the poor headlight lighting design of the truck. If the headlight lighting design on the truck was adaquate I would have been able to avoid hitting the deer. The low beams do not light up the shoulder of the road enough or in front of you for more than approx. 50' to 75' (thats porbably being generous) and the high beams are just as bad and point up in the air. The NHTSA should immediately do something about this and make gm fix this problem before someone is killed or seriously injured or is that what you are waiting on to happen before you do something about this problem. I know you have recieved numerous complaints about this problem and so has gm but to date I have'nt seen any action taken. Is this gonna be another cover up by gm with your help because both you and gm are aware of the problem before you take action or are you gonna do what you are suppose to do and keep us safe on the highways. It was the govt that bailed them out when they were going bankrupt not so long ago so why isn't the govt (NHTSA) helping the public now and bailing us out to fix this problem.
The headlights on this vehicle are horrible, low beams are of no use except in the city traffic and high beams are only slightly better. High beams are not sufficient for driving on dark roads. Hopefully gm will offer to repair/replace these before there are deaths to report.
The headlights are terrible in this truck. When we decided to purchase this truck it was very expensive but we thought we were making a good investment-wrong!!! what good is the truck if we get in accident because we can't see at night. GMC just tried to save money wherever they could-only the bare minimal-its all only about lining their pockets with the most cash that they can. We have talked to the dealer about this and they say they is nothing they can do. GMC replace the headlight starting in the 2016 but what about the 2014 & 2015 our life's don't matter?.
Extremely poor visibility with projection headlights, very little difference between hi & low beams. Dealer states they meet requirements.
2014 GMC Sierra 1500 z-71 projection headlights are with out a doubt a safety hazard. Not only are they dim but they do not "project" far enough down the road in either the low or high beam modes. Unsafe because one over drives the beam projected. Unsafe because one cannot see off to the sides where deer and other animals approach sometimes at high speeds. There is no doubt in my mind that general motors will have to change out these headlights either sooner or later under a recall.
The headlights on this truck are inadequate for driving at night. If it's raining at night, I won't drive it. I bought a new truck from GMC , it's unsafe to drive at night, and GMC should fix it !!.
The headlights are not bright enough for night driving on country roads without street lights, on bright or dim mode. These are the worse headlights on any car I have ever owned, I personally have bought 4 brand new GMC pickups, this is the worse. I never thought about test driving at night, I trusted them, wrong!.
Headlights are not bright enough. Headlights are useless at night. Dealership changed bulbs and reprogrammed. Vehicle is still dangerous to drive at night. Vehicle has been this way since new.
The headlights on my 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 are very very dim. Both low beam and high beam make it very diffiucult to see very far in front. I have been driving gm trucks for over 50 years and have never encountered lighting so terrible. With the deer in penna. Moving at night this time of year I am at times reluctant to go over 35mph. I can't believe that gm has not made some kind of change to their headlight system noting the many other complaints. I did test drive the truck but of course not at night, it certainly would have been a deal breaker knowing what I know now. That is how bad they are. This is a very dangerous product and emplore the NHTSA to force a recall of this vehicle. I have looked into replacement bulbs with much higher intensity. Nothing is available other than the standard. Please take action!.
The headlights on this truck suck they are dim even on high beams going up a twisty mountain road at night is like taking your life in your own hands not safe at all.
Headlights are too dim in 2014 GMC sierra. To the point of dangerous to pedestrians and wildlife. The lights hinder the ability of drivers to see and avoid anything that may wonder into the vehicles path. By the time the headlight illuminate the object it'll be too late! "save some life", persuade general motors to fix future vehicles and possibly recall existing ones.
Problem was present from the day I bought truck new. I live in a very rural area and the headlights are too dim to drive safely at night. Vehicle has been back to the dealer twice, once to replace bulbs and reprogram the bcm. Still not bright enough to feel safe driving at night. Second trip to the dealer they adjusted headlight up to high end of spec. Still not bright. I'm to the point of installing an after market hid kit.
When I first started driving my new 14 GMC I had never had a truck with projector headlights so I was unsure if it was just me that had to adjust to the beam of light they provide or if it was a problem with the lighting itself. After having driven my 14 silevrado work truck with standard lights I realize there is a huge problem with the GMC projector lights they are so bad it makes you think there is a faulty ground wire or something extra ordinary wrong with the headlights. It is so bad that I even looked into upgrading the bulbs but you can't even do that because philips owns the rights to produce them and wants to over charge the aftermarket for the use of the design, so I am stuck with a headlight system that is worse then a 6v headlight from the 40s.
Headlights do not provide adequate illumination for night driving. Should be considered a safety hazard to occupants and others on the road. Poor design and/or specifications on gm's part to allow the usage of this headlamp configuration on any vehicle on the road today. This issue needs to be addressed and resolved ASAP.
The headlights on the 2014 GMC sierra do not supply enough light while driving at night. I was shocked at how little light they put out. It is almost dangerous to drive at night due to the fact that visibility is so limited.
Headlights are weak.
Highway driving at night where dear/vehicle collisions happen on a daily (or nightly) basis with the poor light output of the headlights in the 2014 sierra is, simply put, to be avoided in my opinion as well as all those who have ridden with me at night. One actually believed I was joking and asked me to turn the real headlights on, if that says anything about what my complaint is about today. I have avoided night driving with this truck in favor of a sedan equipped with oem "high intensity discharge" headlights even though deer represent more of a significant danger due to the height differences between the sedan (Nissan) and the pickup (14 sierra). I do this because with the Nissan's hid headlights I am capable of seeing the deer (or pedestrians, debris, etc) from an adequate enough distance that allows me to slow way down or otherwise act accordingly. That is not an option with the 2014 GMC sierra and it's projector headlights. While the sierra may provide enough light output to suffice in well lit towns and on well lit roadways, it does not do so on secluded roads where deer are most prevalent and in turn the most difficult to see. Turning the "brights" on makes no difference to the actual areas that represent the possible danger one might encounter such as pedestrians, debris on the road, deer as previously mentioned, poorly lit vehicles, etc. It does however illuminate the trees which might be helpful to some but not too me. I understand gm attempting to save where possible, but give us that need better performing headlights have the factory option to upgrade them to hid's, I would have paid for it, as we did with the the Nissan, and as my brother did with his Ford f150, both of which have outstanding headlight output thanks to the hid's.
While driving from alabama to pennsylvania in my new GMC I had to slow down to 15 mph under the posted limit due to poor illumination of the road. The high beam headlights shine no where on the road. I once almost missed a turn on a road I drive daily, on another occassion I barely avoided hitting two deer aside the road because the lights broadcast center of road and do not shine at all left or right. Two trips to the dealership have proved useless, first trip they were willing to adjust lights, second trip I was told there is no further adjustment possible. This is unacceptable for a new vehicle that cost $45,000.
