Pressing the brakes more than once locks the brakes up multiple times this has happened. Not an isolated event.
I am experiencing an issue with a hard brake pedal on my 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. This same issue was previously addressed through a recall and special coverage program by gm, which I had performed. However, the hard brake pedal condition has returned, significantly impairing stopping power at low speeds. This poses a serious safety risk, especially when towing or parking. I can no longer park my trailer safely. The vehicle is difficult to stop, and braking distance has increased substantially. This is a known issue with this model and year. It appears the prior recall may not have adequately resolved the root cause. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether additional action or recall extensions are warranted.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to stop as intended. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard. The failure also persisted while driving downhill. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The contact was provided information for NHTSA campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that the manufacturer had closed the warranty, because the vehicle exceeded 100,000 miles. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 156,000.
This vehicle has the same issue as other recalled GMC sierra vehicles - the brake booster pump is failing, causing braking difficulty, particularly at low rpm and after repeated presses of the brake pedal.
I was backing my boat down the ramp and the brakes were giving out. I know this was a recall issue, in the past, that I had repaired. Clearly, they repaired it with the same faulty part because it has happened again. When I took it to be repaired they said I had to pay for it this time. The issue wasn't resolved but only deferred until later, with a temporary fix. I could have ended up in the river and drowned. Paying the dealership to fix a safety issue caused by their defective parts is ridiculous.
Power steering was going in and out then all of a sudden completely went out.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however; the contact disregarded the letter. The contact stated that while attempting to parallel park, the brakes failed to operate properly. The contact stated that the brake pedal became abnormally stiff. The contact was able to operate the brake pedal and park the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer for a routine oil change, and the vehicle was diagnosed with a non-functional vacuum pump. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however, the contact was informed that the recall had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.
Break get rock hard at times and makes it almost impossible to stop at a safe distance.
Severe gas smell. Brakes hardly stop truck. Service stabilitrac. Paint peel. Steering clunking. Antifreeze leaking.
Says I have no recalls. I have terrible gas smell and steering light abs light traction light abs light and hard brake pedal. Seats and mirrors move by there selves. Steering wheel shakes. Overall this truck is worrying me so much I won't put my kids in it. Oh also airbag light on also.
The brakes on my GMC Sierra 1500 lose braking power when operating at slow speeds. The brake pedal will lose braking power, causing the vehicle to not stop at slow speeds. This is particularly troubling when pulling into and out of parking spots, driveways, crosswalks, and other areas. I use my truck to pull a boat and when I back my boat into the water at a boat launch, the brakes will lose power when I am in reverse causing the truck to slid into the water.
I have a scan tool and it says my brake recall is unfinished. But website says it has been fixed. My brakes are terrible and keep getting service brakes airbag and stabilitrack. The download they used when I took in for the recall was not finished.
Recall on brakes says it's fixed. My brakes fail alot suspension chunks all the time and steering feels like tire is falling off.

Additionally, the vehicle failed to stop immediately. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that the vacuum pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 151,477.
Noticed that there was a recall on this vehicle NHTSA campaign number: 19v645000. My concern is that I took my vehicle in back in 2018/2019 for this repair. However my vehicle vacuum pump completely failed the other day where I cannot brake. My vehicle is only at 70,800 and fail to see that if a proper repair was completed back in 2018/2019 for it to fail again a couple of years later with low mileage. While I was able to get this vehicle home safely my concern is that if it failed earlier in the day on the highway I may have cause a serious incident.
Going under 15mph, applying the brake causes the pedal to become stiff and lock up and not work. This has caused me to almost hit someone in traffic. I immediately got off the road and got my vehicle to a safe location off the road . Communicating with a dealer today to confirm possible recall issue or potential repairs.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, as the contact slowed for traffic, the brake pedal became very hard to depress. The contact stated he had to use more than normal leg strength to depress the brake pedal. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had become reoccurring. The contact stated that the failure of the brakes also occurred while starting the vehicle and shifting into either drive(d) or reverse(r). The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The failure mileage was approximately 189,000.
At low speeds excessive brake pressure is required to stop my truck. Other gm trucks have been recalled for this issue, but I am told my vehicle is not included.
At low speed and idle, brakes lose power and pedal becomes hard to push. Once rpms increase, brakes regain full use.
"service trailer brake system" alert on dash. This is a safety concern for 2 reasons; the first being the chime made to warn the driver is distracting, persistent, and annoying. The second is the trailer brake system is apparently not functioning properly which is a danger while towing. This is not the first time this has happened and is a danger to me, my family, and other on the road.
Service trailer brake system warning message. Trailer brake controller inoperable.
Whenever driving I get a message stating that I need to service my trailer brake system. This is most likely due to cheap wiring installed by the manufacture. This has been going on for over a couple of months. Just recently, I was making a slow turn and my vehicle shut off on me and I lost control of my brakes and steering and all power to the vehicle which is a huge safety concern and I am unsure if they are related or not.
Hello, I am driving a 2014 sierra truck with 17,761 miles, my father’s work truck. The first week I had no problems, the 2nd week the trailer brake warning came on relentlessly. New truck, scary warning sign! I took it to GMC to dislocate trailer brake, they sold me a $340 trailer brake control switch. Upon my return to where I live a loud sound came from when I was idling to wait for construction to accelerating. I noticed once I got home, my back wheels were hot and a burning smell! I hate when you take your car in for one warning sign and you get something so much worst and you paid outrageously for that! karma!.
I’m having a trail break system warning every few minutes. It is constant and beeps consistently. To the point where I almost cannot drive it. It won’t go away after a little while and is constantly turning on and off. This just recently occurred and hasn’t stopped since. Likewise there was no other indication of this happening till about two days ago. It’s very distracting and persistent to the point where I feel like I can’t even drive with it on.
I was driving my truck when the brake assist light came on. When applied the brakes they started pulsing and grabbing. I took it in for service and was told that the electronic brake control module needed to be replaced and the brake fluid flushed.
Air bags didn't deploy on 2 separate incidences and brakes went out last incident.
Driving at certain speeds the truck will just shut off while trying to turn or merge onto the highway. The electronic steering draws to much voltage on the vehicle and it just dies turning and braking after that is a very serious safety hazard and should be looked into I’m a mechanic myself and I’ve replaced grounds done everything I can and still nothing has fixed the issue.
Trailer break system service indicator constantly beeps.
The vehicle was in a accident where someone ran a red light and my vehicle hit the in the front passenger side. My speed was around 40 to 45 mph there was no restraint with the seatbelt, airbag did not deploy and brakes didn’t work properly.
When driving I went to slow down and couldn't push in the break at all. I couldn't even pump the brakes I had to slam it into park just to avoid hitting the car in front of me.
The truck just shut off all electrical and dash controls as I went to turn into my driveway. Its done it to me twice so far in the last 3 weeks. . No brakes and no power steering.
The brake goes hard to push when driving or going in a drive thru that some time it does not want to stop.
I have a hard brake pedal and reduced brake responsiveness.
Was in driveway, started the car and then put foot on the brake to shift into drive. As soon as I was in drive I began to roll forward even though my foot was still on the brake. I then had to really step on the brake (it was very hard to apply pressure) to get it to stop rolling. I then immediately placed it in park. This happened several more times throughout the day, only at low speeds, or when switching from the parked position to drive or reverse. This is extremely dangerous when trying to park (child could be injured in driveway) or slowing down in a parking lot or could cause a collision in traffic!.
Brake pedal got hard and unable to stop.
