Driving on highway and also at low speed, truck completely shuts down electrically. Steering fails, instrumentation fails, doors lock, complete power failure. This has occurred backing out of driveways, turning into intersections. Brought truck to dealer,they can't find anything, but g218 ground issue appears to be obvious yet, they refuse to fix unless issue is present.
When making a full turn to the left with my 2014 GMC sierra there is a loud thumping noise that you can also feel in the steering wheel. The problem started periodically and I had a dealership diagnosis. They heard the noise and found no problems. The noise has become more consistent and a third party mechanic believes it to be a steering rack failure. The vehicle can be stationary or moving at parking lot speeds to hear the thump.
The steering rack developed a loud clunk that you could feel in the steering wheel and head outside when turned about 2/3 of the way to the left. The problem would happen almost every time the wheel was turned. The truck could be standing still or moving. I brought it to the dealer where they diagnosed it as having a bad steering rack. The truck has 43000 miles on it and it was definitely a safety issue. I read a little online about the problem and there is several people who have had the same issue. Someone stated that the new ones are built different than the 2014 and possibly 2015 model years. If the new ones are updated and it is a known problem it would be nice if the manufacturer would fix them before steering racks start failing.
