At low speeds when applying the brake, whether in a turn or traffic, the vehicle will shut off completely. This has happened multiple times and has almost caused accidents on a few occasions. It has also happened while just driving down the road, the entire truck lost power and then came back, the windshield wipers came on as well.
The steering assist fails, power and steering is reduced at driving speeds. Steering wheel locks and vehicle looses voltage and stalls while driving at low speeds and have been close to collision. Vehicle was inspected by group one GMC in el paso texas. They did not fix recall because it "did not pertain to my VIN" . There is a recall for the steering assist on all GMC 2015 1500, but not for my GMC 2015 1500 for some reason. Whether it was manufactured in the us or the moon its still a GMC 2015 1500 with faulty steering assist system from the manufacturer with an open recall. Thanks for your help.

After recall the problem got worse.
All power shuts off while driving. The transmission dis-engages, the power steering stops working and the infotainment system turns off. The power steering powers off even when sitting in a parking spot while everything else is on. I've owned this truck since 2019 and this has always been an issue, especially when taking a left through an intersection. I keep checking for recalls, but nothing shows up and I find that extremely hard to believe. I'm contacting you now because the issue has gotten worse, everyday worse.
When I turn the steering wheel, the ac turns off, lights turn off, the computer screen turns off, steering wheel gets hard and does a jerking movement. The truck turns off too and then suddenly turns on. This can cause a death. If this happens in a highway or a street where speed is high this can easily cause a death. . Fortunately this has happened going at 30 mph and no one close at the time and also at a drive through fast food restaurant. It has not been confirmed by the dealer but I will soon have to take it. The only light that comes up is the stabilitrak. . But it only lights up when it happens and then it goes away.

Problem # 1at low speeds /parking I loose power that affects steering the radio and windows. I get a message on board stability warning message. Steering become hard and can’t control/turn the vehicle problem #2 at low speeds /parking my brakes loose power I have to press brake really hard to stop truck.
Truck loses power engine dies while driving after turning at slow speeds. Engine will restart after a few minutes like it never happened does not show any dtc codes or check engine lights. It is intermittent with no advance notice very dangerous to drive. Seems to be a common problem for all gm trucks and suvs from 2014 - 2017.
While going at a low speed, the steering starts to get tight. It is not constant but occurs off and on. I have read online about this recall, but the truck I own was not included. I believe it should be. I can't trust pulling into traffic for fear it will lock up.
Several instances in which power steering assist lapses at low speed. Several times lapses coupled with radio/ac going off. Two times the truck has died while backing into garage. I have narrowly missed hitting other cars while parking in various places. I have not taken the truck to a dealer or service center for this problem. It has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance or others. Several different messages show up in different instances. Today I noticed “parking assist symbols not available. ” then the truck died.
My electrical failed I was hauling a trailer and I crashed into a car also the air didnt deploy we were traveling at 35mph my steering locked I couldnt aviod steering got real tight.
I started the truck and did not have power steering. If this would have happened while driving it could have been very dangerous. Why is this not a factory recall?.
1. Truck is equipped with afm (auto fuel management) I found out thru some research models since 2014 having collapsed lifters because of this feature. GMC has not made any attempt to recall this problem and let customers face the repair like me at the cost in my case of 7k. This truck has only 58879 miles on it. Not surprising models as new as 2021 had the same issue with no action taken to correct. 2. My truck lost the steering assistant feature putting me in a potential accident while I was driving. Steering the truck is difficult, especially at low speed which I decided not to drive it. I'm 87 years old and I'm facing numerous repairs for a vehicle with only 58k miles on it in order to safety drive my vehicle.
Rack and pinion popping.
Na.
The same exact vehicle my sister has and it has the same problems. But mine not on the recall , its the same model and the same year.

The contact was able to control the vehicle however, extra effort was needed to steer the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle independently regained power steering functionality. The contact stated that the service power steering warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure recurred while turning to the right or the left and persisted while driving. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 18v586000 (steering). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Steering suddenly stops working when making a turn and have no control of the steering . Happen 3 times yesterday almost was in a accident. Then starts working again.
Truck will experience complete electrical failure while driving in motion at various speeds. Failure lasts between 5-10 seconds but causes severe difficulty as steering is affected. A web search reveals grounding issue as potential cause. Manufacturer has not notified me of this particular issue and or any recall effort and I know of no existing recall effort for this issue.
Becomes hard to turn steering wheel at slow speeds, more often while in reverse. On one occasion, a stabilitrak message popped up as a warning and then the engine died. Does not happen every time but has happened enough to take it to the dealership. They concluded that it could not be duplicated so they could not properly diagnose the issue. They had the truck for 3 days of testing. The engine failure is seriously concerning to me due to having my children with me most of the time.
I was leaving a parking lot and I lost all power steering and had to find a way into a safe spot to park. Just had it dropped off at the dealer. The truck steering wheel felt odd when I pulled in but it finally locked up as I was leaving going about 5 mph.
Power steering difficult, truck ekectrical components cut on and off. Usually happens when turning. 3 near misses in vehicular crash.
Power steering has went out multiple times when turning in parking lots. Without power steering its very hard to navigate the truck especially when you don't expect it to go out. No warning lights came on and power steering goes back to working fine after these episodes.
At times my vehicle will lose power steering, turns off stabilizer traction control light comes on. There is no warning and does this more at low speed turning. You can't turn the steering wheel when this happens and the breaks hardly work. I have 30,000 miles on vehicle I had this vehicle towed to dealership in 2016 they charged me diagnosed but didn't tell me anything more it's only been to the shop for recalls I do my own maintenance.
Power steering hard to turn at low speeds and backing up and cluster gauges go dim then back to normal.
Power steering goes out and at time turn truck power off whenever I attempt a slow tight turn like backing into my driveway or making tight turns going into parking lots and/or spaces. Most recently, when attempting a u-turn at a busy intersection, power steering went out and engine died. I had to coast to the side to avoid moving traffic. Each time this issue happens I hear 3 dings all my dash & screen lights flash off then on with clicking noises. Dash info changes from speedometer to radio setting. If I look at screen quickly enough when this happens I would sometimes read “rear parking assist unavailable” or something like that. If air conditioning is on it would turn off then on. Doors will unlock then lock, all this happening simaltaneously while attempting to make a turn.
The contact owns a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds, there was a reduction in the power steering assist. The stability track and abs warning lights were illuminated. The electronic power assist became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact stated the failure was like NHTSA campaign number: 18v586000 (steering). The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.
Lost power steering and engine died while turning into lot across oncoming lanes. Oncoming traffic luckily stopped and I placed truck in park, restarted and completed my turn. 4th time I lost power steering and truck died.
Pickup has had reoccurring service power steering message come up in information center. Took to gm and they said it needed a new negative battery cable. Bought one and installed it. Still have the same problem. Upon dong some searching, its a very common problem among certain gm vehicles. One weekend the power steering quit working all together at 70 mph on a curve. Talk about scary! I called gm customer service to ask about coverage on the issue and was denied because my vehicle was not one affected by the suspect faulty parts. I am very disappointed in gm's lack of caring for my safety in this situation. Will not be purchasing another gm. If they no that this is their problem I truly believe they should stand behind their product and take care of their customers.
When turning the wheel sharply at low speeds, the power steering suddenly turns off, as well as all other electronics making the vehicle difficult to control and posing a safety risk.
At slow speeds, mainly when backing and turning wheel when going forward at very slow speed, steering loses power. Also some times hard to turn when vehicle not in motion at all. The last time it happened all interior lights and radio flashed totally off and right back on. I heard a dinging/warning noise and a warning message flashed but went off before I had a chance to read it.
