Exterior Lighting Problems of GMC Sierra 1500 - part 2

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 50 mph, the passenger’s side headlight became inoperable. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights flashed on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle and discovered that the water pump had failed. Despite the failure, the contact managed to drive the vehicle home. The next day upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated and both engine fans began to run at full capacity. The contact called the dealer and made an appointment for a diagnostic test. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

I have been trying since day one of my brand new 2023 sierra denali pickup truck hence I spent a $100 k plus oem accessories at the dealer ! this complaint is in reference to the safety part of the brake trailing that disconnect and lose light and brakes ! I have spent insane times at the dealers and have complained to the GMC executive offices with nothing but excuses and absolutely zero help from GMC cooperate but continue to go make appointments at the dealers ! this is safety complaint and they are not taking this seriously at all ! there is defiantly a ongoing issue with either the computer onboard or the trailer module ! I am not a engineer but again this is a safety issue that needs to be looked at ASAP ! I do not feel safe driving the truck !.

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed at night on an undulating roadway, the contact noticed that due to the narrow vertical area of illumination of the head lights, front visibility was severely reduced, with the lowest portion of the area in front of the vehicle receiving little to no illumination. The contact stated that the failure was not present while driving on a flat roadway. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but was unable to provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 1,000.

The contact owns a GMC Sierra 1500 denali. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 22v903000 (exterior lighting) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Fully enclosed led tail light (turn and brake integrated into 1 led "strip") with no visible moisture ingress/egress system showing retained moisture and no longer functional. Dash light for "rear signal brake light failure" appears. This rear light unit is not serviceable or repairable when a light goes out and is fully sealed aside from the reverse light (incandescent bulb and functions fine). Led's should have a lifespan that outlives the vehicle and a major incentive to have led integration with lighting is the lifespan and reduced need for service. Now the taillight and brake light stop working and can not be fixed without spending <$500 per side. This is a safety issue that seems to be closely related to the issues with the GMC yukon's of the same generation.

During winter/snow driving snow accumulates on the headlights and causes a partial to total loss of visibility. This has happened multiple times during winter months. Cleaning the headlights requires exiting the vehicle in a potentially dangerous situation. This may occur after every few miles or less depending on the conditions.

Dashboard instrument panel all lights and gauges goes out while driving down the road when vehicle is turned off a clicking noise is made in the dash. This issue causes when driving down the road, not knowing the speed because the speedometer is out or how much gas the vehicle has, or any other readings, and at night all lights go out, not able to see while driving down the road.

While making a quick left hand turn at low speed, steering wheel suddenly locked, all lights and electrical went out and engine died. This left me stuck in a busy intersection with no lights. I was able to restart engine after a minute or so. Error message appeared "roll driver side window up, etc. " needless to say, no longer have confidence driving my truck not knowing when this situation may re-occur.

Driver side low beam head lamp is dim, no high beam. No accident nor damage to assembly.

The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the trailer lights flashed intermittently while the vehicle is turned off. Additionally, the contact stated while driving with a trailer hitched to the vehicle, the messages "trailer disconnected" and "trailer connected" were intermittently displayed, and the running and marking lights were inoperative. The contact related the failure to gm TSB numbers: 20-na-198 (trailer running lights shut off due to excessive load on the running lamp circuit), pit5747b (diagnostic tip - trailer lighting complaints with trailering app rpo u1d) and n192213550 (service updatetrailer integration module software error). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was determined that the failures were due to a wiring or software failure. The contact was informed that the failure was a factory defect because the fuses were in good condition. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted yet. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.

The left rear tail light assembly is subject to direct wheel spray resulting in premature corrosion and failure of the lightbulb and wiring harness. Failure first occurred within 18 months of ownership. I cleaned the contacts and packed the connection with dielectric grease. However after three years the bulb connection is now totally corroded and the circuit has failed requiring harness replacement. The problem is so widespread, replacement wiring harnesses for the left rear tail light assembly are out of stock and unavailable from gm parts. This vehicle has poor headlight performance. I changed the bulbs to no avail. There is no way this 2015 GMC passes vehicle state inspections if they really look. There is very little power to the lights, even on the high-beams. After some quick research - gm has a service bulletin pit5374 that addresses this very issue. But the dealerships are using this safety defect as a way to generate service volume. Requiring a $170. 00 diagnosis to identify a problem they already know exists.

The headlights are very poor. Can hardly see at night. They're no better when on high beams.

Dangerous visibility hazard when backing up vehicle at night. Infotainment screen switches to "full brightness" when backup camera is activated, resulting in blinding light to driver. Driver can not backup safely without physically covering the screen to regain visibility. Screen brightness reflects off all 4 windows, windshield and back glass. Side mirrors are unusable in this condition. There was a fix for this issue on previous gm models, (prior to 2018), however no fix for 2019 - present.

The day time running light on the drivers side is staying on and wont shut off at all and I had my job look at it and it is the junction box. However I have had multiple people tell me they have had this issues.

The reverse lights are not working which is affecting the rear camera as well.

When I turn the truck off the dim headlamps stay on with the keys out. The only way to make them go off is to pull the battery.

Brand new truck. Stuck at the gym in the middle of the night truck wont start. The interior lights, head lights, and radio wont shut off. Vehicle wont start. I'm assuming the battery was drained because interior lights, exterior lights, radio, wont shut off. Has to be some kind of electrical malfunction. Waiting on gm roadside.

2019 GMC at4. Problem occurs at night. When putting the truck in reverse, the display monitor on the dash turns to full brightness (and cannot be turned down). It is very hard to even see the side mirrors due to the blinding brightness of the dash display. There needs to be a fix to this problem as it makes backing up at night very challenging.

Putting vehicle in reverse turns the interior display brightness (reverse camera) on as bright as it goes, like a flashbulb going off right in your face. This is especially dangerous at night and leaves temporary blindness which affects the ability to see out into the darkness afterwards. There is no ability to adjust the brightness of the interior display. I can even turn the display off and shifting into reverse turns the camera back on with maximum brightness.

When exiting from one highway to another in heavy traffic were breaking was required, my trucks power steering and power brakes had completely gone out. I was on a straight track for a highway patrol who was standing outside his vehicle along with another motorist. After fighting to steer the truck while trying to brake to avoid hitting other motorists I realized that the truck had also died. Shook up and scared I started the truck and began to drive away with the officer yelling what the hell are you doing. The truck has done this several times. Three of which almost resulted in an accident. It has been in the dealership were they told me it was a high resistance in the negative battery cable which was replaced and resulted in no change.

The backup camera on the infotainment system is blindingly bright at night. When you put the truck in reverse the backup camera pops up on the infotainment screen and blinds you making it a huge safety hazard as you cannot see anything out your mirrors. This needs corrected so there is a brightness control to allow the screen to be dimmed so that you can see when backing up.

The screen on radio is so bright in the cab when backing is blinding when backing up and dangerous. No way to turn down the brightness.

When backing up in the dark the backup camera goes to full brightness and is very disorienting and makes using you mirrors very difficult since your eyes are adjusted to the dark. Using the backup camera screen is useless due to how bright it is. Happens when vehicle is stationary or in motion.

Tl- the contact owns a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle at night both the low beam and high beam head lights would illuminate extremely low brightness causing a visibility hazard for the driver. Also while driving both forward and in reverse the brake pedal would become extremely hard when pressing causing the stopping distance to be extended. The contact indicated that the failure was more present while driving at low speeds in reverse and after pressing the brake pedal multiple times. The cause of the failures were not yet determined. The local dealer charlie's Chevrolet(1412 us route 202, winthrop, me 04364) and manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 14,000. Jft.

The engine shuts off and it looses all power randomly when turning , it is noow started to shut off in traffic when lightly tapping the brakes. .

Tl- the contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the lane departure signal supposed to blinks three times but it only blink once. In addition, the contact stated that the lane departure signal functioning correctly intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the demontrond Buick GMC dealer, (14101 north fwy, houston, TX 77090, (281) 607-1716) where the technician could not replicated the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was fine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 4,400. Aw.

When put into reverse, the screen from backup camera is overly bright making it difficult to use the side mirrors as the operators night vision is compromised.

Interior light flashes when stepping on break pedal.

The stock factory head lamps/bulbs are very dim and do not light up the side of the road or very far down the road and the lights have a very sharp cut off line.

Was driving down the highway at highway speeds rolled the passenger window up the stereo cut off the gauges cut out and the wipers wipes in one time. Then a message stating stabilitrak needed to be serviced and electronic power steering was out.

Headlights are so dim because of the plastic cover that is made into the oem headlight assembly. The plastic apparently had no uv protectant and the plastic has turned dingey yellow and clouded where it's affected the light output from the vehicle.

I was waiting on the oncoming traffic so I could make a left turn. I had plenty of time to make my left turn in front of oncoming traffic, as I proceeded to make my turn all if a sudden my steering wheel locked up, stability trac light came on, my power locks locked and unlocked intermittently and truck engine died. I had to restart engine and it did it again as I was moving attempting to finish my turn. This happens on a regular basis now anytime I have to turn steering wheel it locks up and does this. Sometimes it does everything I stated above but engine doesn't die. This is dangerous. A couple times when it does this my truck doesn't have any power to start but wait 30 seconds to a minute, power will restore and you can then start it up. It almost sounds exactly what is happening that the 2015 GMC 1500 are being recalled. This happens now on a daily basis.

Lack of illumination of headlights straight ahead. No light shines to the sides of the vehicle making it difficult to see left or right when negotiating a turn at night. I have put new bulbs in both sides the best money can buy at carquest with no improvement. The headlight lenses are not dirty or fogged over. It appears to be a design problem, and I have seen other people with this model truck complain about the same thing on some blogs. I contacted gm directly looking for information I can get on a possible upgrade, and they have offered not solution. I have had this issue with this vehicle since buying it used 4. 28. 2018.
