Exterior Lighting Problems of GMC Sierra 1500 - part 2

Dangerous visibility hazard when backing up vehicle at night. Infotainment screen switches to "full brightness" when backup camera is activated, resulting in blinding light to driver. Driver can not backup safely without physically covering the screen to regain visibility. Screen brightness reflects off all 4 windows, windshield and back glass. Side mirrors are unusable in this condition. There was a fix for this issue on previous gm models, (prior to 2018), however no fix for 2019 - present.

The day time running light on the drivers side is staying on and wont shut off at all and I had my job look at it and it is the junction box. However I have had multiple people tell me they have had this issues.

When I turn the truck off the dim headlamps stay on with the keys out. The only way to make them go off is to pull the battery.

Brand new truck. Stuck at the gym in the middle of the night truck wont start. The interior lights, head lights, and radio wont shut off. Vehicle wont start. I'm assuming the battery was drained because interior lights, exterior lights, radio, wont shut off. Has to be some kind of electrical malfunction. Waiting on gm roadside.

2019 GMC at4. Problem occurs at night. When putting the truck in reverse, the display monitor on the dash turns to full brightness (and cannot be turned down). It is very hard to even see the side mirrors due to the blinding brightness of the dash display. There needs to be a fix to this problem as it makes backing up at night very challenging.

Poor head lights doesn't show the road very poor lighting read where was other complant about this.

Putting vehicle in reverse turns the interior display brightness (reverse camera) on as bright as it goes, like a flashbulb going off right in your face. This is especially dangerous at night and leaves temporary blindness which affects the ability to see out into the darkness afterwards. There is no ability to adjust the brightness of the interior display. I can even turn the display off and shifting into reverse turns the camera back on with maximum brightness.

When exiting from one highway to another in heavy traffic were breaking was required, my trucks power steering and power brakes had completely gone out. I was on a straight track for a highway patrol who was standing outside his vehicle along with another motorist. After fighting to steer the truck while trying to brake to avoid hitting other motorists I realized that the truck had also died. Shook up and scared I started the truck and began to drive away with the officer yelling what the hell are you doing. The truck has done this several times. Three of which almost resulted in an accident. It has been in the dealership were they told me it was a high resistance in the negative battery cable which was replaced and resulted in no change.

The backup camera on the infotainment system is blindingly bright at night. When you put the truck in reverse the backup camera pops up on the infotainment screen and blinds you making it a huge safety hazard as you cannot see anything out your mirrors. This needs corrected so there is a brightness control to allow the screen to be dimmed so that you can see when backing up.

The screen on radio is so bright in the cab when backing is blinding when backing up and dangerous. No way to turn down the brightness.

When backing up in the dark the backup camera goes to full brightness and is very disorienting and makes using you mirrors very difficult since your eyes are adjusted to the dark. Using the backup camera screen is useless due to how bright it is. Happens when vehicle is stationary or in motion.

Tl- the contact owns a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle at night both the low beam and high beam head lights would illuminate extremely low brightness causing a visibility hazard for the driver. Also while driving both forward and in reverse the brake pedal would become extremely hard when pressing causing the stopping distance to be extended. The contact indicated that the failure was more present while driving at low speeds in reverse and after pressing the brake pedal multiple times. The cause of the failures were not yet determined. The local dealer charlie's Chevrolet(1412 us route 202, winthrop, me 04364) and manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 14,000. Jft.

The engine shuts off and it looses all power randomly when turning , it is noow started to shut off in traffic when lightly tapping the brakes. .

Tl- the contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the lane departure signal supposed to blinks three times but it only blink once. In addition, the contact stated that the lane departure signal functioning correctly intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the demontrond Buick GMC dealer, (14101 north fwy, houston, TX 77090, (281) 607-1716) where the technician could not replicated the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was fine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 4,400. Aw.

When put into reverse, the screen from backup camera is overly bright making it difficult to use the side mirrors as the operators night vision is compromised.

Interior light flashes when stepping on break pedal.

The stock factory head lamps/bulbs are very dim and do not light up the side of the road or very far down the road and the lights have a very sharp cut off line.

Was driving down the highway at highway speeds rolled the passenger window up the stereo cut off the gauges cut out and the wipers wipes in one time. Then a message stating stabilitrak needed to be serviced and electronic power steering was out.

Headlights are so dim because of the plastic cover that is made into the oem headlight assembly. The plastic apparently had no uv protectant and the plastic has turned dingey yellow and clouded where it's affected the light output from the vehicle.

I was waiting on the oncoming traffic so I could make a left turn. I had plenty of time to make my left turn in front of oncoming traffic, as I proceeded to make my turn all if a sudden my steering wheel locked up, stability trac light came on, my power locks locked and unlocked intermittently and truck engine died. I had to restart engine and it did it again as I was moving attempting to finish my turn. This happens on a regular basis now anytime I have to turn steering wheel it locks up and does this. Sometimes it does everything I stated above but engine doesn't die. This is dangerous. A couple times when it does this my truck doesn't have any power to start but wait 30 seconds to a minute, power will restore and you can then start it up. It almost sounds exactly what is happening that the 2015 GMC 1500 are being recalled. This happens now on a daily basis.

Lack of illumination of headlights straight ahead. No light shines to the sides of the vehicle making it difficult to see left or right when negotiating a turn at night. I have put new bulbs in both sides the best money can buy at carquest with no improvement. The headlight lenses are not dirty or fogged over. It appears to be a design problem, and I have seen other people with this model truck complain about the same thing on some blogs. I contacted gm directly looking for information I can get on a possible upgrade, and they have offered not solution. I have had this issue with this vehicle since buying it used 4. 28. 2018.

I temporarily had no control over the vehicle causing me to have an accident. While driving down a residential street approaching a stop sign intersection I merged into the center of st to pass a trashcan and in the process of returning to my correct position on the road I suddenly had no steering. Panicking from the loss I pressed my brakes an attempt to bring vehicle to a stop but was unsuccessful because the tires began a slide once noticing the traction loss I proceeded to release brakes and reapply in hopes of gaining traction the brief relief from brakes caused the vehicle to regain traction and while I still have no control over steering, the vehicle jerks towards the right side of the road and the brakes being reapplied the vehicle continues to slide off pavement making contact with stop sign and telephone pole.

During driving, the stability sensors would go off and show up stating stability turned off, or power steering turned off. The voltage on vehicle would suddenly drop from 15 to 9 and then back up. This will usually turn off the interior lights and electronics. I have discussed this with other 2014 sierra and silverado owners and they all advised this was occuring on their vehicles. There is a ground wire that was not properly installed under the dash which causes high resistance material to cause electrical issues. During one of my drives to work going 60 mph, the electrical components shut off and caused the engine to stop running. I was able to pull over while coasting on no power and restart the vehicle and it would continue to go. There have been times where the steering wheel would jerk while stationary as well. After many forum discussion this all related back to the ground wire not being properly installed by the manufacturer.

During night operation with the instrument cluster adjusted to proper brightness the intellilink screen is dangerously bright. The intellilink screen does not have an independent brightness control from the dimmer. When set to off in an attempt to mitigate the problem, the intellilink screen reactivates with subsystem adjustment, e. G. Temperature adjustment, absolutely destroying night vision of the driver. If adjusting the brightness level to acceptable for the center console lighting and intellilink the instrument cluster is so dim that it requires unsafe levels of driver attention to process the dimly lit information. In addition the backup camera is also too bright as well in reverse causing a distraction. Gm customer support was notified and confirmed this was as designed without a dimmer and they will file a complaint as per my request.

The factory installed head lights are so bad that you can barely see at night one of the worst most dangerous issues I've ever seen on a vehicle please let me know how we can remedy the situation.

Loss of power steering assist, steering wheel jerks or kicks back when turning, messages with warning chime appear on instrument panel which also goes blank or inoperative, engine stalls and dies. This happens while vehicle is in motion on city street or hwy i10 (in bumper to bumper traffic) and when turning or backing up into a parking spot. This has happened before but more recently lately (at least once a day since 9/16 -9/18/2017).

As well as having very poor visability, the haedlight bulbs on my truck have blown out 5 times in only two years. There is obviuosly something wrong with something besides the bulbs. I am going broke replacing them. I called the dealer and was told that it would cost me 115. 00 an hour just to look at the truck. I would rather give the truck back, than pay to have a problam that is obviously a manufacturing defect, fixed. The lights have went out both while moving, and stationary.

Head lights are dim both high and low beam . In traffic at night in the rain on the highway can not see lanes . Side vision there is none . On hilly back roads vision is limited . Low beam you go in a dip lights are in the ground going up other side lights are in the trees. High beams are in the tree tops . Only 1 bulb adjust is limited.

Fuel gage shows half a tank but I ran out of gas. Lights blow all thetime.

Electrical issue causing sound system, rear camera and radio to shut down completely. Issue started 2 weeks after purchase. Vehicle has been service several times but issue has not been resolve.

There truly is no accident at this time. However . . . If this condition isn't corrected, there will be accidents. These may result in not only loss of life or property, but possible criminal prosecution. The issue: the projector headlamp design of the 2014 GMC sierra is extremely subpar for lighting the roadway ahead of you. Individuals, in order to not "outdrive" their lights, would probably have to go below posted minimum speed limits on highways, presenting yet another issue for the driver as well as those who would approach from the rear in nighttime driving conditions. I contacted GMC . . . Aware of the issue. No help at this time. I got the impression from the operator that "not enough people have filed complaints. " I'm guessing that when the catastrophic and tragic happens, it will not matter that not enough people filed complaints . . . Officially. Slight research on the internet will show many individuals complaining about the issue. But GMC's admission that they are "aware" but are taking no action at this point is very disturbing. I would have thought that design issues would have had to be cleared by an oversight agency of some sort? I just discovered the extremely scary feeling of "driving in the dark" . . . Basically . . . After having my truck since thanksgiving. But I drive mostly in the daylight, and have been on interstate 20 in one of the busiest sections with traffic at night . . . Not realizing how much others' lights were helping. When driving alone on a rural road, however, it is tantamount to driving with a flashlight when it comes to safety. I am wanting to trust that the agency tasked with safety will please look into this issue? before someone or multiples lose their lives and lawsuits ensue?.

I am in receipt of the paperwork concerning the above claimed for my vehicle. The paperwork in my possession clearly states that farmers insurance has made me aware that my vehicle ¿has been determined to be a total loss¿. I am concerned about these findings since it seemed my vehicle only suffered minor damages to the exterior only. Airbags where not deployed nor any windows shattered. I am also in receipt of the paperwork concerning my claim and determining I am 51% at fault towards the accident. I clearly gave my side of the story to the police office that my steering wheel had locked and I was unable to maneuver the vehicle. I was not under the influence of any drugs so I feel mechanical failure should be assessed. Supplemental information was also sent to me where it clearly states recall notices for my vehicle. Recall notice NHTSA campaign id # 14v719000, dated by the manufacturer November 10, 2014 states a recall notice naming the steering as the component needing to be replaced. I never received any information from the manufacturer GMC/Chevrolet concerning this matter. Upon review of this letter, please also take into consideration the recalls that you have provided me and reconsider pursuing of subrogation from a third party, I. E. GMC/Chevrolet manufacturer.

Not bright enough. It is not safe to drive dark countryside roads. No side visibility at all. I almost hit a cow.

Head lights are substandard and unsafe on this vehicle. It is unsafe to drive faster than 40 mph on low beam and not much better on high beam. When turning 90 degrees you are turning in to the dark.
