The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 10 mph, the upper control arm and ball joint on the passenger’s side fractured and the wheel partially detached from the vehicle and was sticking out. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and the failure was confirmed; additionally, the driver’s side upper control arm and ball joint was also fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mile was approximately 71,000.

2 Front Suspension Upper Ball Joint problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/11/2017

Dec. 11,2017 driving under 20 mph on a local road speed limit 30mph ball joint pulled out of control arm front drivers side. Front wheel fell over caused damage to tire and rim and disabled abs system by cutting wires. Lucky I was not on interstate 84 going 65 mph in fishkill new york truck could have crashed with other vehicles or caused serious injury to occupants of my vehicle could have caused vehicle to roll over. Dealer claimed never heard of this happening and that I must have hit something to cause the ball joint to pull out of control arm, never hit anything not even a pot hole I am the only driver of this vehicle. Had to replace control arm which holds the upper ball joint which is pressed into control arm. Took dealer from Monday to Friday to complete repairs. Control arm not under warranty repairs cost 936. 42. Found many complaints about ball joint and control arm separating on this vehicle online. Driver side front ball joint.
