Driver's side front wheel assembly separated from the vehicle. It was hard to tell exactl what happened but I am told that it may have been a ball joint failure. I was driving in the middle lane on the highway with cruise control set to 70mph. All of a sudden, my truck jumped up and my truck starting pushing towards the left median. I thought I had a tire blow out. Luckily there wasn't anyone in the left lane at the time and I was able to get to the grassy left median. If there was another vehicle in the left lane and or if the left median wasn't grass, this would have caused a major accident as I has no control over where the truck was going. When I got out I saw that my entire wheel had separated from the vehicle and it was on its face under the truck. I did not hit a pothole. There was no prior indication that anything was wrong with the assembly. A tow truck was called and brought the truck back to their shop. The assembly had to be replaced, (ball joint, axel, steering control arms etc. ). I called my local GMC dealer and they have nothing being reported of this issue but when I looked online I've seen multiple reports of premature failures of ball joints. Total repairs so far have been $3,400. 00 and I still need to replace a cracked rim. Repairs will be over $4,000 when all said and done.

At 50,000 miles the upper control arm/ball joint on the driver side came apart with no warning causing considerable damage to the suspension, tires, wheel, and front bumper. About two months before at approximately 48,000 miles the passenger side control arm/ball joint came apart again with no warning. Warranty has just elapse and gm has denied any responsibility and will not cover any of the repairs. This could have easily been catastrophic if we would have been on the freeway. This is a safety issue! this truck has the aluminum upper control arms which my opinion for what its worth is the problem. I have no clue at this time how we are going to be able to fix this. Even when it is fixed we will never trust it.
The contact owns a 2013 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact was alerted by another motorist that the spare tire had lowered underneath the vehicle. After stopping to inspect the vehicle, it was discovered that the rear cross members had corroded, causing the spare tire to become unsecured underneath the vehicle. Additionally, while driving over bumps in the roadway, the vehicle became unstable due to the corroded rear suspension. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who diagnosed that the rear sub frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

Noticed a scraping noise after new, recommended tires installed on my stock truck. Checked the door label to ensure correct tires installed, they were, returned to the tire facility and they recommended I ask a repair facility to investigate. Found that the tires are rubbing the upper control arm when fully turned left or right (both sides affected). Went online to discover that this is a common issue with the 2018 and similar GMC sierra and chevy silverado trucks. This is a safety issue caused by a design deficiency. Two things can happen. One, the tire can fail. Two, the upper control arm could fail, causing the vehicle to be uncontrollable. This could be fixed by restricting the extreme left and right travel in the steering system or redesigning and replacing the upper control arm so it doesn’t interfere with the tire. This is an unacceptable safety issue caused by a design deficiency and needs to be addressed by ntsb now.

I was taking my truck to have an oil change and tire rotation at the dealership. I have just traveled approximately 15 miles on the freeway, exited, and entered the parking lot of the dealership. I went over a speed bump at about 5-7mph and felt a clunk, with a grinding sound and the car pulled to the right. I got out of the truck and found the front passenger wheel was hanging off with only the lower connections attaching it to the frame. (control arm maybe?). The service department worker was right there when it happened. He told me they have been having issues with the leveling kits on 2020 GMC sierras causing this issue, especially on the right side. He said that this was not the first that he had seen. Two other people at the dealership mentioned the same thing. I was never notified of the potential failure and possible catastrophic consequences. I contacted GMC who's "product allegation" department told me they could not investigate because the truck was repaired at the dealership. They didn't even review the photos I had sent them.
The frame is so rotted it will not pass state inspection.

The truck has developed a shake that can be felt in the floor boards, seat, and steering wheel at highway speeds. It’s has spent several months at dealerships without being fixed. I have replaced tires, wheels, shocks, upper control arms, and the transfer case without success.
The contact owns a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undetermined speed, the vehicle was shaking while shifting gears. The contact stated while shifting from four cylinders to eight cylinders, the rear-end was shaking violently. The hood latch warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the tires needed to be replaced. The tires were replaced three times however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
I own the 2009 GMC this truck was bought new by me and it only has 41,000 miles on a 13 year old truck it is very well maintained. Both upper shock mounts rusted off and the rear spring shackles have holes in them I had a service center look at it and he said there maybe not enough metal to weld to. The whole frame and cross members are badly rusted and although it is not a safety issue both cab corners are rusting out, and the left rear wheel opening I really feel there is no reason any vehicle should rust so bad and be undriveable.

With out any warning my right wheel had broken when I tried to drive from my dive way to work. Looks like excessive wear to the front-upper control arm ball joints resulted in ball joint failure and wheel separation. Reported to a dealer. Waiting for the appointment to do full investigation. Separation of a front wheel while the vehicle is in motion increases the risk of a crash. I drive in city and highway roads, nothing rough. . Read more...
Ball joint separated from control arm while driving. Vehicle was undrivable had to be towed.
I took my truck to the dealership because of my issues and they said they had many trucks going in with the same issue but there was no fix to it. The issues popping noise heard on hard turns and/or going over speed bumps, creaking noise while turning wheel left and/or right, clicking noise heard on slow sharp turns. Also when you go over a bump the truck makes a spring loud noise to the point that the whole truck bounces. Shifter is also very hard when you try to change gears.

Cross frame member ahead of rear wheels has rotted and failed. It is located behind the cab and is the cross frame that holds up gas tank and forms the anchor point for the rear shock absorbers. I have been told by dealer that truck is not safe to drive. It is now at a body shop. The suspension is compromised, gas tank could fall, and drivability safety is affected. Truck is only 8 years old, the cross member is not visible to consumer, there has been no undue use or environmental conditions to cause the rot and failure of the component. Further, the manufacturer does not sell a replacement part, so the entire frame of the truck would need to be replaced.

Passenger side leaf spring "failed"- the middle "stiffener" rear section broke off/ fell to the road (see picture below with leaf spring removed). Fortunately, I was turning into side street doing about 15mph negating any safety issues- things could have been much different if at highway speeds. The truck had some significant miles (125k) but they were 95% highway miles though I do considerable highway miles with "treated" roads over washington state passes. Vehicle was repaired by haselwood GMC/chev dealership in bremerton, wa. On 5/25/22. Maintenance/repair supervisor chalked it up to routine wear and tear.
Stability control truck felt no power and on off on again it happened suddenly how to fix?.
The same exact vehicle my sister has and it has the same problems. But mine not on the recall , its the same model and the same year.

A vehicle with 45,000 miles had ball joint shear from the upper control arm of front left suspension resulting in wheel separation from the ball joint. Similar situations happening with similar 2020 GMC sierra's (note: NHTSA recall notice, no. 21v718). Could have resulted in a vehicular crash if speed had been increased prior to separation.
At 8,000 miles I started hearing a clunking noise in my truck when I hit a small bump or back up out of drive way. Brought in and GMC stated it was normal and no issues at walser Buick GMC of roseville. Brought I back again because it was getting worse and could hear it every time I slowed down and accelerated. Then stated they need to order spacer bushings at walser of bloomington. Then went back for 3rd time and installed them at bloomington. After 600miles noise was back and is getting worse again. I called walser of bloomington again and said I need to drive it for 1000 miles to break in spacers. So now we have 11,000 miles on truck with same noise again and its going back again because needs to get fixed. GMC is just asking for something to happen. Also when this first happened at 8,482miles I was on 35w and the rear end started wobbling and gave me a small death wobble but I slowed down to control it. That’s when I brought it in and it could of hurt or killed somone.
This vehicle was sold by a dealership with these issues the frame has a half inch wide six inch long gap needs a fuel pump control module and the engine needs lifters replaced.

I purchased the 2020 Sierra 1500 because the label on the truck frame states that it can tow 9300lbs. Subsequently, in April 2021, I purchased a 34' travel trailer with a max capacity of 8995lbs. In August, I received a notice from GMC that they overstated the towing capacity by 500lbs. The new towing capacity is 8800lbs. GMC's response to my request for a refund was that they were not going to help me. Their solution is that I can be provided a new sticker by the dealer upon request. This does not resolve my issue, nor the issue of other sierra owners who purchased this vehicle because of its stated towing capacity. In doing research, it appears that in model year 2014, GMC faced a class action lawsuit for misrepresenting their capabilities. I believe that this malpractice is a safety concern for me and many others. Attached is the towing label on the frame and the letter from gm.
I was driving my 2020 GMC sierra at4 at about 15mph on a 2 way city street slowing for a traffic light when my vehicle started to shake violently. . . At first thinking it was a flat, but the shaking was much different. As I was slowing in anticipation of the light, now at about 5mph, my truck suddenly dropped and stopped. This would have been catastrophic at freeway speeds! I immediately thought maybe someone had tried to steal the wheel overnight as I knew now it was not simply a flat, but knew I had wheels locks and thought that unlikely. . . . This was while I was exiting my now parked truck. I knew the problem was on the front passenger side, and was shocked as I rounded the vehicle from the front only to find the entire front wheel assembly folded flat under my truck. The entire brake assembly was still intact, but the front drive shaft was pulled out, as well as the upper and lower ball joints. The brake hose became severed in this incident.
The truck shakes on right side, it has done this in the past and was taken into the dealer for repair it worked for a few months then it was back and not it has returned again. It is to the point that if feels unsafe to drive.
On Saturday, may 22, 2021, my wife was returning from fairgrounds in waxahachie, TX. She remote-started the car, and the vehicle started. As it started to rain and was getting muddy, and the grounds are in a grass field (no large rocks, hills or debris to climb as it's cleared land), she shifted the vehicle into 4wd high incase the field was slick. She started to drive and received several warning lights, "service esc, service traction control, brake light warning and check engine light". The vehicle also had a noticeable wobble to the wheel and felt off balance, jerky, and had speed limited. My wife turned the vehicle off and back on and some of the lights went off, and the vehicle did not lurch or wobble anymore. The vehicle had a tire changed at the dealer the day prior, so I am unsure if that tire change is related or not. Now the vehicle shows an alert "check engine, service emissions system". I am having the vehicle towed to the dealership tomorrow for diagnostics. All lights except the check engine light have since turned off since powering off the vehicle.
The leaf springs appear to have failed. The vehicle is available for inspection. If the leaf spring brakes, control of the vehicle could quickly become an issue. On 9/24/21 I brought my truck into the local GMC dealer for inspection. The service technician indicated the leaf springs show “possible overloading” and recommended air bags to level the truck. The heaviest load for this truck has been a 4,000 lb. Fiberglass fishing boat. At this time, no one else has inspected the truck. The truck, when empty, sits lower in the rear than in the front. If a small trailer is attached, it becomes even worse. Oncoming cars flash their headlights thinking mine are on high beam, which they are not.
The contact owns a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the steering and suspension either locked up or was very loose while driving approximately 30 mph. Additionally, the steering either ceased or became loose. The contact contacted ed bozarth Chevrolet company, inc. (2001 s havana st, aurora, CO 80247, (720) 773-5338) who stated that a software update needed to be performed on the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.
On 22 December 2020, I received a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 slt x31 truck. The day that I drove it I notice that the truck was riding as though it had a low tire issue. It was riding bouncy. I had no low tire light. I checked the tire pressure and they all was over inflated. I brought the pressure back to range, but the truck was riding the same over rough and bumpy roads that the rear end of the vehicle was shifting from side too side when you hit a bumpy or on rough roads. It felt like the rear end was coming off the ground very frighten. I called gm they assigned a case number and I took the truck to three dealership with the same answer that all bolts were tighten to spec. Ok I get that, but did not address the problem that the truck is doing. I am not comfortable driving this truck especially when you have no I deal when your terrain will change and the back end of y0our vehicle moves from side to sider on you.
Driving down road, heard / felt loud bang. Stopped vehicle, no damage or parts of road way. Several days later while fluid filming undercoating underside of vehicle noticed broken middle rear drivers side leaf spring stick out of leaf spring pack.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 3 mph, when he heard an abnormal noise and saw the front driver side tire detached from the vehicle. The contact stated he crashed into a metal pole. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. Air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained injuries on his recently operated right shoulder. The contact did not seek any medical attention. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to his residence. The contact stated that the rack and pinion along with the tie rod was damaged. The contact called local dealer Chevrolet of wasilla (3700 e parks hwy, wasilla, ak 99654, (907) 202-7325) was made of the failure. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired as of yet. The manufacturer had been informed of failure. The failure mileage was 82,000.
Highway driving engine light started flashing, received codes on service esc and service parking brake. Truck seemed to loose power transmission started shifting very hard, cruse disengaged, lane keep assist stopped working , brakes and steering seemed to act different . When ignition was turned off loud noises from under truck sounded like brakes releasing with loud clunking noise.
My truck has a severe vibration or shake extremely bad at 60mph and up. I have tried new tires, front end alignment, and several different shops have told me they don't know what it is drive shaft or axels.
The main body frame is completely rusting through from under the drivers side door back past the fuel tank. It is rusting through on the passenger side as well. The large amounts of rust have caused other issues throughout the entire body of the truck as well as rusting of other components. The frame of this truck will need to be replaced as there is no way to repair it or the vehicle becomes scrap. This vehicle is available for inspection. These issues were not visible when purchased from the dealer. This issue gradually became visible after the rust and undercoating wore away that had been applied previous to our purchase from a known dealership.
