1 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2015 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 08/02/2020

While driving the transmission slipped while attempting to change gears. This caused the vehicle to be unresponsive and indicate a problem accelerating. This has been getting worse over the past several months and ended up leaving me in a very dangerous situation yesterday while driving.

2 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 03/09/2020

I have a 2018 GMC sierra denali, when the vehicle is cold, usually first thing in the morning, the truck starts out in first gear and then feels like it lacks power or transmission is slipping and then bangs into 2nd gear. The more I drove the truck the worse it got. While driving down the road there is a vibration within the truck. The faster you go the more of a vibration you feel. During the vibration the steering wheel is not shaking and when you let go of the wheel the truck stays straight, so it's not the front end. Took the truck to the dealership where it was purchased, pellegrino GMC, which is a 30 minute drive and they couldn't duplicate the problems. The service advisor was advised prior to my appointment, that the banging into gear only happens when its is cold. He advised me that what I was feeling was a normal shift for my truck. I advised him about the service bulletins and he stated that it didn't pertain to my truck. The mechanic test drove my vehicle for 13 miles and didn't feel the vibration. He checked the engine codes and found none. I have had the truck a little over a year and it has 6000 miles on the odometer.

3 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/08/2019

I experienced failure of the transmission to sift up or down on several occasions between 11/01/2019 and 11/11/2019. On 11/08/2019 I was monitoring the transmission temperature, and when the transmission temp reached 164 deg, the transmission would stop shifting properly at 25 to 30 mph, and the trans temp would jump to 192+ deg. Transmission seemed to slip and the vehicle would not accelerate. Rpms jumped to 3k-4k rms but speed would not change up or down. Contacted the dealership and made an appointment for 11/11. On 11/11 I drove the to the dealer 10 miles away. I monitored the trans temp as I drove, and no shifting issues until just before reaching the dealership (trans temp had reached 154 deg). I road with the dealer rep for a test drive and he was able to duplicate the problem at 30-mph and trans temp quickly rose again to over 192-deg. Dealer rep tried to use the manual shift option but even using that he was unable to get the transmisson to shift properly ans engine rpms exceeded 5k and stayed there until the transmission shifted into gear. Dealer rep stated that is not good during the test drive. Arriving back at the service department the dealer rep that test drove the vehicle told the service dep amanger the vehicle was not safe to drive. I was told the transmission would need to be torn down to figure out what the problem was and it might be after the first of the year before they would have it fixed due alack of parts due to the recent strike, and a bag log of vehicles already waiting repair parts. Other complaints that seem to match mine are NHTSA ids: 11193281, 11230193, 11221668, and 11205523. Issue is a serious safety issue if the vehicle cannot accelerate safely to merge with traffic.

4 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/05/2019

You can constantly feel a bump, clunk & transmission slip when going from reverse to drive. This is dangerous as I was pulling a small boat and it came off the hitch hitting the trucks tailgate and causing damage to it. This will happen seconds after drive is already engaged. After 3rd time I took to dealer the mechanic gave me a GMC memo that states that this is normal for this model truck to do this. Mechanic stated gm has known about this issue for years. Are you kidding me ? sounds like poor engineering. I was never told this would happen pre purchase or I would of never bought the truck. Have had constant problems with this truck since I bought it. Have had the seat belt pillar cover fall off 3 times dealer says they will change seatbelt, waiting over 2 months and no parts or repair. I have a warning to service brake pad sensor monitor. Took to dealer and they say they can't get parts for it yet because gm is on strike and have been waiting for parts and repair for over 2 months . Have had a steering wheel column warning also. Dealer blames everything on software issue. My diagnostic report each month states truck is in perfect order even though I have had a warning light for over 2 months !!!!! now there is a recall for the seatbelt pretensioner that it might cause a fire ! what a piece of junk this truck is I tried to support the american economy by buying an american truck and look what I get ! I should of bought a Toyota tundra !!!!!!!.

5 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

While the truck is in motion and when accelerating around 15-20 mph the transmission will sometimes "hunt" for a gear causing the truck to not accelerate. This results in a mild jerking of the truck when it is trying to accelerate and feels like the transmission is slipping/skipping. This is more apparent when going up a grade versus on a flat surface. So I have to push harder on the gas pedal waiting for the truck to shift. This is a safety issue since when not properly accelerating into traffic, an accident is more likely to occur. I see that this issue has already been reported in another incident on your website. I have had this issue since I bought the truck on 02/2018 and the reason I have waited to report is due to the dealer stating to allow the computer to update/learn your driving habits. I have 11,000 miles on the truck now and still experiencing the issue.

6 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 03/14/2019

Transmission slipping turning corners at 5 mph, transmission slip take off at hill stop sign, transmission hard shift 2nd to 3rd gear intermitted and vibration 45 mph to 55 mph.

7 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/26/2018

Brand new 2018 Sierra 1500 z71. When driving the truck for the first time after sitting for a number of hours (6+hrs) the truck experiences a "hard" 1-2 shift. This occurs 100% of the time when I leave for work in the morning. Sometimes it feels like the transmission slipped, this is the hard shift feeling. Other times the truck loses acceleration, cuts out, feels like the truck has ran out of fuel. Only happens when the truck has been sitting for a long period. When I took the truck in to have this looked into I was told this is a known issue without a resolution. Ive attached a scan'd copy of the document they gave me #16-na-361.

8 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2015 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/15/2015

The transmission seems to slip or hesitate at takeoff. The running lights are too dim to see down the road.

9 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 03/15/2009

It started with the fuel gauge fluctuating between full and empty with a full tank of gas and the abs and brake light on dash lighting up for apparently no reason. Then it started giving me trouble starting and making a weird whining noise. I checked all the fluid levels and fuses, everything was ok. I was at the camp(middle of nowhere) at night when I noticed that there were sparks coming from around the area of the starter when my husband tried to start it. (it just happened to be dark and I was sitting with a view of the right wheel well) I checked the wires and found what might have been a break in the insulation, taped it and the sparks quit. Had no choice but to drive it home the next day as there was no phone service. Started right up , and drove fine, except for the low whinny noise that no one could pinpoint. I was almost home when the transmission started to slip. I brought it to our mechanic who replaced the transmission but none of us can figure out what the devil is causing the electrical problems. Before the transmission went out the tow/ haul button didn't do any thing, now the light actually comes on-when it feels like it,but I can't get it to go off. The gas gauge is still acting nuts and the abs and brake light still come and go. Please post instructions for troubleshooting this thing!.

10 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 03/10/2009

Hello, my complaint is that gm placed an undersized transmission (4l60e) in the popular crew cab 1/2 ton trucks and I am requesting for NHTSA to investigate gm regarding this issue and make a recall. My truck is a 2005 GMC sierra sle z71 crew cab (k1500) with only 76k+ miles and has the 4l60/65e transmission. This 4l60e transmission is also used in gm trucks colorado & canyon and works good for these smaller trucks but in the larger silverado & sierra crew cabs the transmission wears our the 3-4 clutch prematurely due to the weight of the truck. This is a bad design and gm has fixed it in the 2007+ crew cab trucks by using a 6-speed transmission instead of the previous 4-speed. I was driving on the highway and my transmission slipped in 4th gear. I shifted to 3rd gear and transmission continued to slip. This was during rush hour and I was going 65 mph. I had to wait for traffic to clear on the right hand side so I could get to the shoulder while I had several cars behind me waiting. My truck could no longer hold speeds above 50 mph without slipping the transmission. I could have caused an accident because my truck could not accelerate. This is a potential hazard. I had the truck taken to the dealer and was told I need a rebuild and the most it would cost me is $3k to fix. I said no thanks and paid the $45 diagnoses fee. I told them why if I do not tow with my truck and drive passive to get the best mileage and some how my transmission needs a rebuild at only 76k miles? this should not be. I have a 10 year old car with 193k miles and it has never had a transmission rebuild. I have called gm and they say there is no recall and there is no transmission problem but I disagree. I asked the dealer to provide me with how many transmission rebuilds they have done and they say they do not track this information. This is outrageous because they do not give gm any feedback on how many repairs they do to cars out of warranty.

11 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/01/2002

After the warranty ran out and at about 60,000 miles the transmission started shifting hard from first to second gear. The check engine light started coming on intermittently. When the engine code was checked it was the 1870 transmission slippage code. After checking online there were hundreds of other customers with the same problem. I took it to the dealer after the condition worsened and the dealer recommended replacing the transmission without even seeing the problem duplicated. This should have been a recall item years ago. I have had to replace the electronic fuel pump twice. Online there were numbers of customers with this save replacement problem. I have an older vehicle that have never had the fuel pump replaced.
