The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse out of a parking space, the transmission failed to respond while in reverse. 3 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 10/22/2024

The contact owns a 2022 GMC sierra. The contact stated that while attempting to park their vehicle inside of a parking lot, the contact had attempted to shift the vehicles gear into park however the shift handle broke off, and the vehicle remained in drive. The contact stated that they restarted their vehicle and that on the display a message appeared stating "vehicle in gear", however the vehicle remained in drive with the wheels locked up. The vehicle had to be towed to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed. The contact was advised that the shifter cable was stuck by the transmission and that the contact would have to replace the shifter handle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

4 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 09/01/2024

The contact owns a 2018 GMC sierra. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle began to shake violently, prompting him to pull to the shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but upon the contact continuing on to his destination, the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the rpm's rapidly increased and the temperature gauge began to indicate that the vehicle was overheating. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would hesitate and jerk upon acceleration without warning. The contact also stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact owns 2011 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact was driving 50 mph when the vehicle hesitated and was slow to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they advised that there were no failures and the vehicle was operating as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 1,500 updated 02/23/11 the consumer stated the vehicle would hesitate on acceleration. Whenever he attempted to accelerate, the engine would lag behind for a split second. When the engine did engage, the drive train would bang from the engine accelerating. The consumer also stated the vehicle would not hold in steady speed high gear. The transmission would continually go between 5th and 6th gear. When in 6th gear, the vehicle would lose speed. 11 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2011 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/18/2010

On November 18, 2010, returning from vacation, driving a new 2011 GMC sierra sle pick up with less than 2,000 miles use, pulling a 24' travel trailer. The truck was in "tow" mode descending a 15% grade hill at approximately 45 mph. I was not accelerating when the truck down shifted itself automatically from 5th to 3rd gear and the engine accelerated to 4000 rpm. I applied brakes and truck shifted back to 5th gear. Fortunately conditions were dry and no accident occurred. Cruise control was not engaged at the time as terrain was very hilly and twisting. Truck shifted and accelerated without warning. Continued trip without further problems.

14 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500. When the vehicle is shifted into fifth gear, the fan stops blowing. When switching back to fourth gear, the fan will blow. The failure began in December of 2007. In August of 2008, the wiring plug and resistor melted. The wiring plug was replaced; however, the metal connector is defective and will not allow the plug to properly connect. As a result, the vehicle can only be driven in third gear. The dealer stated that they needed to diagnose the vehicle. The failure mileage was 34,100 and current mileage was 37,000.

Gm technical bulletin 00-07-30-022c (automatic transmission) failure of reaction sun gear with only 36,xxx miles (2002 GMC Sierra 1500 4. 8l). This appears to have been a problem for at least a decade with continual failures until gm upgraded the defective components in 2003. Repair estimates could be over $2,000. Cash available = $200. Gm should take responsibility for known defective parts.

: the contact stated while the vehicle was parked with the key in the ignition accessory mode, an unattended child switched the column gear shift from park to drive and the vehicle rolled downhill crashing into a tree. 18 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1997 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

1997 GMC sierra does not decelerate when the accelerator is released. Braking and/or downshifting only increased the rpm. Transmission can be put into neutral then back in the desired gear and the vehicle will then slow down slightly. Service dealer claimed no problem found.

The contact stated that after parking, turning the vehicle off, and exiting, the vehicle suddenly rolled forward, down a slight incline, and crashed into another parked vehicle.
