1) component/system & availability for inspection transmission control system. When shifting into reverse, the check engine lamp flashed and a “transmission service” warning appeared. Dealer retrieved dtc p07b4 and documented: “diagnosis of engine/check engine lamp - customer states when shifting in reverse check engine light came on flashing and warning message on for transmission service. Check and advise. Note: customer does not feel any issue when driving. Savi code p07b4. ” the component remains installed and is available for inspection upon request. 2) safety risk a transmission control malfunction can lead to unpredictable shifting or loss of propulsion, posing risk during reversing, crossing traffic, or merging. 3) reproduced/confirmed by dealer? yes. Dealer confirmed the condition and stored code p07b4 consistent with my report. 4) inspected by others? inspected by an authorized gm dealer. No inspections by police/insurance/others. 5) warning lamps/messages & onset yes. The check engine lamp began flashing immediately when shifting into reverse, with a “transmission service” message. I did not feel drivability issues at that moment. Addendum — link to gm safety recall n242454440 gm safety recall n242454440 addresses excess wear of a transmission control valve that degrades hydraulic pressure, causes harsh shifting, and—rarely—momentary rear?wheel lock?up during a downshift. The remedy is a tcm software update that monitors valve performance and detects wear ~10,000 miles before a potential event; if detected, the transmission is limited to 5th gear and warning messages appear. My transmission warnings and dtc indicate a transmission control/pressure concern consistent with the recall subject. I request that NHTSA consider this complaint related to n242454440 and ensure appropriate recall remedy and coverage. (gm service bulletin/stop?delivery and NHTSA filings corroborate these details. ).

I purchased my truck (15 GMC sierra z71 4x4) with around 122,000 miles on it. I would be owner #2. Truck ran great. Around 150,000 miles I noticed my truck's transmission start to jerk while accelerating from gear to gear. No engine light ever appeared. Problem stopped. A few days later while dropping my daughter off at school, my truck wouldn't go passed 35 mph. I had to put the shifter in manual and shift to third gear. Other gears would just rev the rpm's to 4 or 5. Since I didn't want to put my family, me and others on the road at risk. I parked my truck and started driving my other vehicle. A few months went by, and my other vehicle had a flat tire, I had to drive my truck to work. On the way home from work, my truck started acting up again, jerking while accelerating. Speedometer would go up however truck didn't move. I had to pull over quickly so I wouldn't be broken down in the traffic lane. I turned the ignition off and waited five minutes and started the truck up. I was able to make it home. At this time the engine soon light came on. I ran my scanner on my truck and code p0700 tcm was the only code showing. I had a GMC dealer look at my truck and stated I would need a new transmission. I have done many months if not almost close to a year of research with results showing that transmission problems just what I was experiencing are a common problem with 2014-2019 chevy and GMC / silverado pickups with transmission 6l80. I dropped my truck off at another transmission shop just yesterday 3/3/24 and the results today were I need a new transmission. Torque converter issues. The shop stated that they repair / rebuild almost three chevy / GMC trucks like my truck a week with the same transmission problem. I still owe on my truck and shouldn't have to pay almost 6k for a transmission that is known to be an issue from the start of factory build. I own many older model gm / chevy vehicles and only had one other issue with one which also had a known recall issue.

First feeling was, I was driving in a parking lot going maybe 5 miles an hour and I felt a vibration in the brake pedal. Pulled onto the main road and approached a stop light when the truck stopped a little hard as I was depressing the brake pedal. As I started pressing on the gas when the light turned green, I was traveling around 35 mph or so, when the truck came to a complete stop in which myself & passenger were slightly thrown forward due to the abrupt stop for no apparent reason. The vehicle in back of me nearly rear ended me due to the abrupt stop the truck did. I immediately contacted the dealer, in which after several days in the shop, the dealer told me that GMC knew about this particular issue but has not issued a recall. The dealer was instructed to replace the transmission control module, due to a malfunction in the tcm that apparently was trying to shut the truck down completely. Therefore causing the truck to stop abruptly with no warning.

The contact stated that the failure occurred more during the winter months. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who reprogrammed the tcm however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

The contact stated that the vehicle drove rough and that the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact used a dtc scanner and retrieved a code related to the transmission control module and temperature sensor. Transmission delay from park to drive. As transmission moves into drive the truck jerks forward violently. Park to reverse did not seem to be a problem. Dealer worked on the truck for approximately 8 hours, flushed transmission, and performed oil change, did not notice any metal in the transmission fluid and sought an update for the tcm (was up-to-date); however, a small amount of water was seen in the oil pan. Dealer performed a test drive and the truck appeared to be back in working condition. Owner attempted to drive the truck out of the dealer lot but the transmission would not engage. Owner attempted to put the truck in reverse, the transmission would not engage. Truck was left at the dealer for further evaluation. No additional information at this time. Transmission still under warranty.
