While towing a less than 2000 lb trailer I had total loss of power steering when speeds dropped below about 5 mph. I got off interstate and was turning right at the end of exit ramp and I could barely turn the vehicle. At the next stop sign it did the same thing. I stopped turned off the vehicle and restarted it and it continued this for the next few miles. Then just as suddenly as it started it stopped doing this and worked fine the rest of my trip.

My booster is leaking into the floor. I took it to the dealer and they said it was the booster and it needs to be replaced. This could make the truck lose its brakes and run into something or someone.
The contact owns a 2025 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, after driving over a small pothole on the road, the alignment was dramatically altered, causing the vehicle to slightly veer out of the intended lane even though the steering wheel was centered. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The contact stated that he previously owned another vehicle of the same year, make, and model that had experienced the same failure and a case was filed with the manufacturer for the vehicle, resulting in a buyback. The failure mileage was 2,000.
Experienced loss of power steering, loss of brakes.
My truck wonders down the highway. It has been to the dealership well over 4 times. They have aligned the truck multiple times, changed the steering gear box, changed the power steering pump, changed tires and nothing fixes it. It takes constant adjusting of the steering to stay in my lane on any road. Quite pitiful for a $90,000 truck. It is currently at the dealership for the third time in the past 7 days because they can’t get the truck to stop leaking fluids since changing the power steering pump. Excessive play in the steering and has been like that since day one that I left the lot. My wife can’t even drive the truck because she feels unsafe with how much play is in the steering. The dealership won’t do anything about it and is offering $20,000 less than I gave for the truck now that I can’t tolerate it anymore. But I refuse to lose that much money with only 13,000 miles on it. I just want a safe and reliable truck for my business and my family. Unfortunately that is not what gm has provided me with.

I left my vehicle for service (19 April 2023 - approximately 8:30 am CT) for an urgent safety recall to bommarito west county GMC dealership located at 15736 manchester, ellisville, mo 63011 (phone: 636-391-7200). When I drove the vehicle in the dealership and had not issues driving and steering. And when I picked it up at approximately 12:30 pm the same day the service consultant (joshua delanoix) did not bring the vehicle to me the same as I left it. Joshua asked that I pick it up in the parking lot, instead. I drove off the lot and noticed that the steering wheel would pull severely off to the right side when breaking causing the car to become unstable and steering towards oncoming traffic. I slowed down until I could retain better control of the vehicle to get home. Then, at approximately 4:30 pm, I drove back to the dealership and spoke to the same service consultant. He then referred me to the service manager (pat roberts). I explained to service manager that I could not drive the vehicle safely and requested a safety check. Pat refused to check the service work or the vehicle safety and disregarded my concerns. Afterwards, I spoke to the sales manager (larry buchhorn) and explained again my safety concern and he followed up with the same service manager and told me that there was nothing they could do and that the service manager's supervisor (mike simms) would contact me. Finally, I was allowed to drive out of the dealership with the same safety issue for the second time.

I was in an accident on October 20th 2022 while driving home. U had just reached the top of a sharp crest on a two way road. As I started to straighten out the wheels coming out of the turn I noticed my direction was still as if I was turning the wheel. I tried to brake and pressed the brake but it went to the floor and the truck kept going. I collided with the other vehicle and it was a miracle neither of us were seriously injured or killed. We had problem with the steering box about 2 years ago and had to have it towed to the dealership. The other vehicle was a chevy 2500 with a custom steel flat bed & it slowed me down and I finally came to a stop with the front tires off the road. Neither vehicle alerted onstar & airbags did not deploy. His vehicle miraculously had minimal damage to the cab the majority of the damage was the metal gear box located under the bed in between the cab & tires. It was super scary & left both vehicles disabled.

2014 Sierra 2500hd sn (1gt120c83ef176464) leaving on vacation towing camper with family bosch cp4 fuel pump issue left me stranded on a hwy 9 just outside clinton, ar which is a 2 lane hwy with no shoulder. The vehicle gave me no prior warning, dash board suddenly read power restricted followed immediately with complete power loss as I reached to top of hill. I was forced to steer and brake the truck and camper with no power, down the hill to prevent vehicles from passing at crest of hill. This left me and my family and numerous other drivers in a very dangerous situation as cars tried to pass. I had to open the hood and try to determine what was going on. I directed traffic until a van buren county, ar sherriff’s deputy arrived scolding me to get the truck and trailer out of the highway. I was forced to unhook trailer in middle of hwy and leave it. All the while, vehicles passing in danger of head on collision because there was only one officer directing both sides of traffic. Gm is aware of this issue that cost me $10336 at gm dealership where repaired. Had I been aware, I would have had this replaced this bosch cp4 part to prevent the unsafe conditions I encountered. One message came on dash, restricted power, and I was powerless. Final bill stated “found injection pump has come apart internally and has put metal through the system. ” internet search stated: according to injectorsdirect. Com, the 2011-2016 duramax suffers from a high pressure fuel pump issue unique to this year-range model. Failure of this cp4 pump is usually catastrophic, causing metal particulates to contaminate the entire fuel system. Please help this from happening to another person. These trucks are advertised showing families pulling campers traveling through mountains. That is exactly what my family was doing. I have additional documentation if needed.

2016 denali 2500 diesel - loose steering, like many of the others complaining. I only have 13,000 miles on the truck since I don't drive it during ohio winters (salt) and use it to tow my 6500 lb boat. Doesn't feel safe at all when towing. The dealer explained both the pitman and idler arm were worn. $1500 repair bill. Very frustrating that gm doesn't cover this potential safety related issue regarding vehicle control/stability. Several versions of technical service bulletin's exist #pit5501d as an example.

While driving down the road pulling a trailer the steering wheel started to get sloppy it got up to 3 to 4 inches of play in the steering wheel before the wheels return either way the adjustment screw locking nut and clip all came loose and backed out and caused a slap in the steering gearbox the truck became unsafe to drive I had to park the truck until the parts were ordered and the whole gearbox had to be replaced at a cost of over $1500. Gm has service bulletins out there on this problem they all came from one assembly factory but they said they would not repair the truck it was under my expense.
While driving my 2020 GMC 2500 denali with the duramax diesel engine, the power assist for the steering and brakes failed without any warning. This made the truck nearly impossible to steer and stop. Luckily, I was able to avoid a collision and get the truck stopped in a safe location. The truck is currently being towed to rivard GMC in tampa, FL. Doing an internet search, I found this problem has happened to others as well. Please ask gm to rectify this extremely dangerous defect.
The vehicle pulls to the right or left into oncoming traffic within 800 feet or sooner depending on speed. This occurs on city streets or interstate. Gm and gm approved dealerships say this is done to gm specifications. The first 7000 miles, it didn't pull. After gm shop aligned, and 3 months later, it is unsafe to operate.
2020 GMC sierra denali duramax 3000 miles tried turning on truck this morning to go to work and would not even crank it is a push start option have no clue on how im going to take it to the dealership if I cant get it of park into neutral for a tow truck at least ! truck does not crank it throws me a ton of messages stability trak dsc abs power reduced 4wd check trailer lights. Bunch of messages I took video of it and so truck doesn't even try to start. I took a video or the problem.
The power steering goes out when turning. This is happening more and more frequently. 2014 GMC trucks have a recall (#14743) addressing this power steering assist issue. GMC said that I need to get it fixed at my cost.

Had injectors replaced under warranty at 50000 miles after noticing excess exhaust smoke on startup and also power steering hoses were leaking, again at 105000 miles they totally failed as I was bringing my wife home from hospital on I-15 in CA. Up cajon pass and had to be towed to dealer, but gm dealer would not cover injectors under warranty as truck was11 years old and their coverage was for 7 years only, now again had to have them replaced at 147000 miles because of excessive smoke on startup. This time I went to an independent shop as they were $1000 cheaper and stated these upgraded injectors should last 150000 miles not 50000. Had to have power steering hoses replaced again also along with power brake servo because they were leaking again at 157000 miles. I have all of this documented in writing by service depts.

Tl-the contact owns a 2016 GMC Sierra 2500 while, driving at high speeds there was a lot of play in the steering wheel. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to dave smith motors 210 n division st kellogg id 83837 where informed that the vehicle was working as designed. The manufacturer was contacted but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 43,000. Ap.
Truck steering is very dangerous. 4-8 inch play in the wheel left and right. You have to turn the wheel 4 either way for it to respond. The dealerships don't have a fix for this and there are 1000 of thread posts on this issue. This exact issue. People are going to die if this is not fixed properly and recalled by gm. The dealerships are putting loctite on the steering g but to prevent it from backing out but this does not last. It happens again only 1000s of miles later. Going down the road I almost ended up in the woods because my steering would not respond. Nightmarish.
Steering box adjustment screw backed out causing excessive slop in the steering wheel. This is a well documented problem with these trucks with gm's solution is to add locktite and torque nut. I believe that this is a temporary solution and it could backout again. Should have a mechanical lock to prevent it from backing out.
2016 GMC Sierra 2500 hd. Consumer writes in regards to defective steering. The consumer stated the vehicle was repaired under the instruction of a service bulletin. The consumer requested to reimbursed for the repairs.

On 5 different occasions the power to the truck cuts off and the steering wheel locks up while driving. On the dash the stabililock light flashes. This has happened to me while turning to get on a major highway, while driving down main roads trying to change lanes, and the last time I was turning into my banks drive through and had to slam on breaks in order to avoid crashing into the median. I took the vehicle back to the dealership patriot in killeen texas and they said they updated the system and found no issues and could not recreate the issue I said I was having. This morning on my way to work, it happened again. This could be deadly if it happens again.
Tl- the contact owns a 2014 GMC sierra. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle several warning sensors would suddenly illuminate that included the stibilitrac warning. Also while driving at low speeds the power steering would suddenly shut off. The contact also indicated that while driving on the highway approximately 75 mph the vehicle had momentary shut off and turned back on. The cause of the failures were not determined. The local dealer key Buick GMC was notified of the failures. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 75,000. Jft.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 2500. While driving at a low speed and attempting to make a turn, the steering lost power without warning for a few seconds. The vehicle was taken to courtesy Buick GMC (205-718-7565, located at 1857 edwards lake rd, birmingham, al 35235), but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided options since the vehicle was not included in a recall. The contact disagreed, stating that the cost was too high. The failure recurred more frequently. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Driving around a corner when the steering locked its self in position causing the truck to not turn, almost as if when you shut the vehicle off and turn the wheel it locks in position. This caused the vehicle to leave the road and hit a tree. The driver side airbag did not deploy. The passenger side airbag did deploy.

Steering wheel very loose, can move 3-4 inches without any steering taking place.
While driving at 45mph in the left lane of a major city thoroughfare the engine quit running, power steering and brakes did not work. The check engine light came on when the engine quit running. I was able to get the vehicle stopped but the engine would not start. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where I was told this issue was reported in arkansas, louisiana and tennessee. The dealership reported that shards of metal were found in the fuel injector and the entire fuel system would have to be completely replaced. Additionally I was told the parts are hard to get. The vehicle was purchased new and was 7 months old and had just over 7,000 miles. The vehicle is still sitting at the dealership 10 days later and has not been moved from where it was delivered by the wrecker service. Gm has been notified but no response from gm or dealership management yet as to what caused the engine failure. I occasionally tow a fifth-wheel RV with this vehicle. I no longer feel safe driving the vehicle and would not consider purchasing another until a determination is made on exactly what went wrong.
Steering has excessive play before tires respond. This has been case since a couple thousand miles on vehicle. Hard to keep traveling in straight line. Always having to correct, especially with 17k fifth wheel in tow.
The contact owns a 2016 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed four years ago, the steering wheel became significantly loose, causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact depressed the brake pedal and veered to the side of the road. The contact then continued to drive at slower speed and away from other vehicles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was repaired under technical service bulletin number: pit 5501f; however, after the repair, the front-end of the vehicle and the steering wheel would wobble while depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, the contact stated that the steering wheel failure reoccurred several months ago while driving. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact removed the driver's side wheel cover and discovered that the brake fluid had been leaking inside the wheel well and underneath the floorboard under the steering column. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 4,450.
Having tire issues with my new 2015 GMC 2500 4wd pick up the bridgestone tires that are installed as factory equipment size 265x70x17 load range 'e' they have a tendency to wonder and at times and not following a curve. The alignment was out and realigned by GMC at 7000 miles. The problem didn't go away. I called a bridgstone dealer and he said the tire size was incorrect they need to be 245x75x17 load range 'e' firestone tires. Gm is refussing to put on the correct size. I checked with michelin and they recommend 245x75x17 load range 'e' tires. The new 2016 gm 2500 vehicals have 245x75x17 load range 'e'.
The steering shaft is moving, slipping back and forth as I hold onto the steering wheel.
