Repeated excessive wear on front brake pads and now on rear brake drums. We are very conservative drivers and typically get 80-100,000 miles on a set of brakes. This is our second set of front pads. We do tow heavy loads. The Suburban is equipped with a heavy duty towing package . It has already had the steering gear box replaced by the dealer. The front pads have been replaced once and the rear brakes have been adjusted, also the master cylinder has been replaced by the dealer. The brakes just do not seem of sufficient capacity to stop a vehicle of this mass towing load. We've owned Suburban's since 1973 so we do feel we have a degree of experience in this area. Finally when the vehicle is driven at highway speeds and a bump is hit, the entire electrical system shorts out for approximately 1/6-1/5 of a second causing everything to go dark. I suspect an exposure in a wiring harness. *****dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis****763731.
Have had ongoing problems with the braking system of this vehicle, can provide copies of all failures.
I've had this vehicle in for brake repairs at least 6 times since I bought it. It now has 26,500 miles. The brakes have been replaced 4 times, master cylinder replaced, proportioning valve replaced, and right side caliper replaced. I have also had the following replaced: motor pulley, a/c compressor, tie rod, idler arm, pitman arm, coil in steering column, main belt, front differential gasket. Every time I take it in to the dealer, it seems that I am a pest. . . . . . . . I will never own another GMC product, and I am seeking legal advice for a possible manufacturer buyback.
While driving experienced problems with abs brakes and master cylinder .
No summary.
Master cylinder had failed 3 times within 1yr. The abs brakes failed to stop vehicle when applied. At dealership at least 8 times for problem. They fixed the brakes each time & they always failed. An ongoing problem. Brakes are still not working appropriately.

The a/c stunk; I felt insecure with the brakes soft most times. Twice we drove 45 mi. To midway and they did not take the vehicle in, GMC said to go to nearest dealer.
When the brakes are applied the vehicle pulls to the right. Owner has had the passenger's side brake rotors , and the master cylinder replaced twice. The dealer and the manufacturer have been notified.
Vehicle pulled to the left when applying brakes , went to dealer, replaced brake master cylinder. After this repair, defect was still occurring which resulted in an accident, causing the consumer to rearened a another vehicle at approx 40-45 mph. ,brakes completley faile. ,no abs warning light. Driver's and passenger's side air bags did not deploy.
Abs brakes failed, vehicle lost control, resulting in a crash/injuries. Dealer also replaced master cylinder.
Abs brake problems; on dry road conditions, applying the brakes in a normal manner, and the pedal went to the floor. Driver used emergency brake to stop vehicle. Continued home using the emergency brakes. The abs control unit was leaking and was replaced on 11/17/97, along with the master cylinder.
The defective abs braking system malfunctioned, causing the spongey feeling brake pedal and having the vehicle to pull to left, and causing extending stopping distance. Replaced the brake master cylinder. Dealer cannot determine problem.

Abs brakes do not and have not worked properly since this vehicle was first purchased (still original owner). Speed sensitive steering does not and has not worked properly as well. Thousands of dollars $$$ have been spent at the original dealership and at qualified automobile service repair centers continually replacing parts and sometimes the same parts of the years, this continues to this day even though the Suburban is in excellent condition and well taken care of. This includes master cylinder, brake pads, cylinders, etc. This braking defect seems to be experienced by many owners of the 1997 GMC Suburban c1500. Why hasn't something been done by gm engineers to locate and fix this problem?.
Master cylinder broke, resulting in loss of brakes.
The brake's master cylinder cracked away from the power booster causing loss of braking power. Vehicle was stopped with the use of the emergency brake.
1, seal on master cylinder is leaking brake fluid . Master cynlinder has been replaced twice. 2, side mirrors vibrate excessively, resulting in poor visibility. Please provide further information.
