2 Brake Sensor problem of the 1999 GMC Suburban

Failure Date: 09/05/2006

: updated 10/17/2006 - the vehicle wheel sensor failed due to corrosion on the abs sensors. This caused the abs to active while braking at low speeds, less than 5 mph. The vehicle would travel 5-20 feet before coning to a complete stop. This is caused when the wheel sensors lose output voltage on one or more wheels which tells the controller that the wheel is locked up and releases brake pressure so it wont continue to skid. This failure has caused the consumer to hit his garage door while pulling into his driveway. The consumer has pulled the fuse on the abs system.

6 Brake Sensor problem of the 1996 GMC Suburban

Failure Date: 12/22/2005

Limited recall limits my safety! I had a recent close call in my 1996 GMC Suburban. The brakes began to anti-lock on dry pavement when anti-lock assistance was not required, thus greatly increasing my stopping distance. The brakes were not pressed hard; the anti-lock should not have engaged. It was a close call between my truck and the vehicle in front of me. Currently my Suburban is not covered under gm's recent limited recall. However, attention needs to be given to this situation; my truck needs to be covered. My concern is not a trivial, my safety and the safety of others is at hand. Gm should be more than happy to take care of a safety issue. I recently read an article in the detroit news about gm's recall of 1. 4 million 99-02 full size trucks and SUV's in 20 states. The recall concerns the anti-lock brake wheel hub sensor getting inaccurate readings. The article brought the severity and critical importance of this recall and my problem to my attention. Proper recall procedures need to cover all vehicles affected, not limited by mileage, age, or location. Safety needs to be the main concern, not a political or financial agenda of automakers. Thank you for your prompt attention to my concerns. . . Updated 07/01/14.

10 Brake Sensor problem of the 1997 GMC Suburban

Failure Date: 06/15/1998

These problems did not occur from an accident, but rather the workmanship of the vehicle. We have tried every avenue to get GMC to stand behind their automobiles and products, but were told it was not their problem. We just want someone in authority to help us with a car that is a lemon and was a danger to drive because of all the mechanical difficulties. Including: steering wheel sensor went out on a curve at 45mph, brakes went out after only 6 months of ownership, 2 altenators and a battery that would have left my wife and two kids stranded, air conditioner quit functioning at 20,000 miles, transmission went out at 45,000 miles, O2 sensors went out after the transmission, altenator went out again for third time, this was supposed to be warranty work, but said that they could not warranty since it fixed under warranty the first and second time. As you can see we have a valid complaint. When we went to try and trade the car off the transmission went out a 2nd time and we could not trade the car, even though the dealership in oklahoma city had a buyer. They were afraid to buy a car with so many problems, so we are left with a car that does'nt run 90 % of the time and no way of getting rid of it. We can't even get the loan amount out of the auto. We really need some help figuring out what to do. Your time is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Ken sutton.

11 Brake Sensor problem of the 1997 GMC Suburban

Both the sensors for the brakes need to be replaced including the hubs. The Suburban doesn't feel like it is going to stop in time. I know someone who has the same year Suburban as I do who just had to have this done. It was also done at the same place where mine is in for service. He was told that there is a manufactures defect in the sensors. When I required about this I was informed the other vehicle may have been assembled at a different plant. He has apporximately the same mileage as I do. I feel that this is a defect. No one can explain to me why both sensors would need to be replaced at the same time.
