2 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2017 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 02/24/2021

Purchased GMC 2017 Terrain 1 month ago today. The first week I had it the engine kept stalling while idling. I took it to the dealership for them to fix. I got it back and it seemed to run hard. 3 days later I found that not one but both key fobs would not work. The battery is brand new. When I spoke to service man at dealership, he stated that one fob was faulty and they would order a new one. I haven't heard back from them. . . Today I got into a front end collision where the air bags did not deploy causing me injury. Only after the fact did the alarm sound and dash message came on stating service airbag. The four way lights would not stay on and the interior lights would not turn off. And there was a smell of something burning. . No return call from GMC.

4 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2015 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 07/06/2020

The seat belt alarm was going off in the front passenger so brought to dealership and was told the airbag sensor went bad and needed to be replaced. Quoted $900 to repair and not covered under warranty. If the seat belt was bad, that would be covered but not the airbag? I feel this is a safety recall and should be covered. If the airbag did not deploy in an accident, that would be a lawsuit.

My vehicle was traveling at approximately 55 mph northbound in the #3 lane of the 41 freeway, south of the shaw exit. Impact was estimated to be between 20 to 30 mph. The driver, my 18 year grand-daughter hit her head on the steering wheel and her left wrist was injured holding on to the steering wheel. The 18 year old female right front seat passenger suffered an ankle injury. Why did the air bags fail to deploy, with a straight on front end collision with the vehicle in front?! unacceptable!!!.

13 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2018 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 06/17/2018

This is a complaint against recall n182155400. My husband a cpd police sergeant was driving home from work on June 17, 2018 nb on 111th street (public street) when he was hit going 30 mph by an unlicensed driver hitting him on the front driver side: bumper/tire/door. To his dismay the air bags did not deploy. Luckily he had his take home radio in the car to call for immediate assistant. We were not aware of the recall until we received the onstar June diagnostic report on June 19, 2018 and then a phone call on June 20, 2018 from GMC haggerty to schedule service for the recall. Unfortunately, we cannot address the recall since the GMC will be in the auto shop for the next 2 weeks being repaired. This explains why the air bags did not deploy during the time of the accident - when they are needed the most. We filed a claim online with our insurance d48 1451-d03-13b state farm under claim number 13-01f8-89b on June 17, 2018. We do not have estimates from the auto shop at this time.

15 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2017 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 01/31/2018

I was driving 9pm on a city st rd, coming up on a mile light that was red. The roads were dry on a 5 lane rd. There was 1 car ahead of my car with their break lights on . Although not noted on police report the car was stopped approx 5 to 7 car lengths prior to the red light. I had began to slow down but did not realize the driver ahead was not slowing down but stopped. I swerved to the right and as noted in pics below the drivers side of car hit the other drivers passenger back corner. I ended up in a parking lot on that corner. Other then the medical term coop to coop that also aided in my head injury, I also hit my head 2 times at my hairline on the steering wheel and then my left cheek. I was diagnosed and sustained a severe concussion/ brain trauma. I went to the emergency room twice for care of worsening symptoms and was incapacitated and out of work for about 6 wks. Which was still to fast to return, but I could not afford being on disability. Following the accident the car was taken to the city tow yard, and was assessed within a week by the ins adjuster as total loss. From there it was taken to a junk salvage buisness. Due to my incapacitation I had no means to look into concerns related to why the airbags did not deploy. I am a nurse practitioner that now has short term memory loss, migraines, and attention deficit due to the brain injury. I have no way of finding out if the airbag censors were defective or not because, although I'm attempting to track the car it's been difficult, and unsure of my rights to the car if I can track it down. The bigger surprise was that I received a recall notice on my 2018 GMC Terrain just today, but have no answers on the 2017. Please help in anyway with what I should do. Sincerely.

Failure Date: 03/13/2014

I inadvertently veered off side roadway, (va highway 220) colliding with a tree/roadside shrubs, etc (was knocked unconscious as forehead hit steering wheel on initial impact). Airbags did not deploy allowing me to sustain a head injury that knocked me unconscious. . . Forehead was gashed with significant bleeding. I was transported by ambulance in unconscious state. Damage to vehicle is in excess of $8,000 so far as vehicle still in repair shop with massive front end damage that affects steering linkage, etc. The impact of vehicle against foliage, trees shrubs, should have forced air bags to deploy and I believe that I would not have sustained a head injury that rendered me unconscious with mild concussion and could not control vehicle leaving roadway.

33 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 03/13/2014

Veered off side of highway, struck something head-on and was rendered unconscious as head hit steering wheel. I was transported unconscious in ambulance from crash scene to local hospital, where I was an inpatient for two days. Extensive damage to front of vehicle indicated the severity of impact. . . Yet air bags did not deploy. I believe air bags should have deployed on impact and I would not have been rendered unconscious, and could have controlled vehicle to avoid striking tree, brush, etc. I contacted GMC corporate. . To advise my concerns for safety. . . Received a follow up telephone call from GMC representative. . . (he) expressed no interest in my complaint. . . Refused to comment on my statement that air bag failed to deploy resulting in extensive damage to front of vehicle and sustaining a head injury as no bag deployed. No matter that I am leasing the vehicle and fear for my safety. . . I was advised that GMC had no further interest in this matter and would not evaluate my safety concerns.
