general problems of the 1999 GMC Yukon

Five problems related to tire have been reported for the 1999 GMC Yukon. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Tire problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2008

I was traveling 60 mph on interstate 20 when tire tread/belt began to separate from the tire. Fortunately I was able to steer the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. The tire are not original equipment. I am careful to maintain the proper inflation level of the tires. There was no prior indication that the tire was defective or would the tread/belt would separate.

2 Tire problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2000

Traveling down the interstate at 75 mph with my two children and husband, and the tread completely and fully seperated at the side wall of the tire. A policeman stopped right behind us and remarked that we must have firestone wilderness tires on it because just about a week before an expidition had 4 fatalaties because of a blowout with the same tires, about 1 mile up the road. No one in our vehicle was injured in our vehicle. We had contacted our dealer, Chevrolet, othe tire stores, and firestone/bridgestone. All basically said that it was our problem and that we had better get them changed because they are "death tires" and bridgestone hung up on us after they remarked that there is nothing wrong with their tires, it was because we didn't know how to drive a SUV. 3 Tire problem

Failure Date: 11/22/1999

The tire failed without any warning and created an extremely dangerous situation and loss of control. The tread was completely separated and the complete tire was shredded. I contacted GMC and they assigned an incident number of 99294608 and advised me to contact a local dealer. The local dealer said that the tire was not covered under the GMC warranty and that I should contact the local firestone dealer. The local firestone dealer advised that the tire failure was due to road hazard and not a defective tire, in spite of the fact that the incident happened on an interstate highway and there was no previous road hazard occurence. The tire disintegrated due to a high speed blow-out. The tire dot number begins with w2 and firestone kept the defective tire after I paid to have it replaced. ( dot number: tire size: p265r7016 ).

4 Tire problem

Failure Date: 10/19/1998

Was driving when a small rock punctured tires. They deflated. Had tires replaced & then small pieces of glass punctured sides of tires. Each time the tires would deflate. Called manufacturer. Very unresponsive & no help offered. Michelein uniroyal tiger paw p235/75r-15.

5 Tire problem

Noticeable vibration at speeds greater that 60 mph. Replaced tires with no reduction. All other models on dealer lot has similar vibration problems. ( dot number: tire size: 245/75/16 ).
