2 Tire Tread/belt problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2002

My 2000 GMC Yukon xl came with defective firestone steeltex r4s tires. I was driving down the road and one of the four tires blew out. Upon examination of all four tires on the car by my mechanic he found all four tires had signs of vertical separation of the sidewall and partial tread separation of the left rear tire and bizarre wear. The tire that blew out had come apart on one of these vertical separations. I replaced the tire with the spare and drove it to a firestone dealer. I was informed that there were no problems what-so-ever with these firestone tires and that the alignment of my SUV was the problem. I told him he was crazy and that I would not have an alignment done and I wanted it in writing. The manager gave me it in writing, and had the tires replaced but charged me over $200 and gave me more of the same brand of tire on the vehicle. I took the vehicle to my GMC dealer and had him check to see if an alignment was needed and I was explained in writing that an alignment was not needed.

9 Tire Tread/belt problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2000

The tire tread came apart and caused us to have a blowout on the freeway. We paid to have the tire replaced at a firestone dealer because the gm dealer told us it was a defective tire. The firestone dealer confirmed that there was no indication that we had run over any road hazards to cause the tire to come apart. We are trying to get gm to replace the tires with another brand since this is a brand new car. In light of recent news reports about these firestone tires, we are not comfortable driving with our family on these tires. We feel fortunate that we were able to get to the side of the road without having an accident and we don't want it to happen again. ( dot number: tire size: p265\70ri6 ).

10 Tire Tread/belt problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2000

Returning from a trip to al after having our Yukon xl for approx. 2 weeks, we had a blowout at 4am. We heard a clunk and about 15 minutes later, the blowout occurred. The tread totally separated. We were not reimbursed for the tire and had to buy another one. Now that we know firestone has a problem with these tires, we would like to be able to turn these tires in to firestone and get a complete refund and then go buy another brand of tires. Firestone has said they will inspect the tires for free and if they see any problem with any tire, they would replace that tire with another firestone tire. I don't want to keep the firestone tires. Can you help?( dot number: tire size: p265/70r16 ).
