My dash is cracked in a couple places - behind the steering wheel, as well as next to the passenger air bag. My biggest concern is if the airbag goes off that dash will explode and hurt someone with sharp dash pieces. I noticed this a couple years ago. I took it in to have it looked at, but found out there was no coverage and it would be at least $1000 repair. I am disappointed to see how many people are having this issue, and GMC isn't doing anything about it. I have had several GMC's and have always been a proud owner. I hope they intend to do right by their customers that paid a lot of money for their vehicles.
My dashboard has cracked on the left side of the airbag. My passenger airbag light stays on even when someone is sitting in the seat. My vehicle was parked in my driveway when I noticed there was an opening in the dashboard.
There is cracks appearing on the dash all along the airbags housing compartment and part of the air bag is exposed . I'm very afraid that the airbag will go off while I'm driving because the dash is so cracked it's barely holding the bag in . I'm also worried it will affect the safety components and not work in an accident because of it being exposed to some elements due to the cracks. My vehicle has been garaged kept and always professionally maintained so it's not something we did or did not do I believe it's cheap material on the dash causing this to occur. Another big issue is the gas and brake pedal are adjustable and have completely come undone and fallen off the adjustable mechanism while I was driving . I called the company and she said someone would contact me soon and it's been a month I've yet to hear from them. It was a terrifying ordeal to be driving and all of a sudden you can't accelerate or brake . I was so scared for my children's safety as we were all in the car driving down the road when this happened.
My dashboard has two crack in it. One at the corner of the airbag and the other above instrument panel. It keeps getting longer and longer. This is now a feared safety concern of the airbag deployment. A small crack formed literally out of the middle of nowhere on the airbag side and then about 2 months later on the odometer side. Now when I drive down the road the dash section between the two cracks bounces around and clicks against the stationary piece of dash.
Dash is cracked above the passenger side air bag as well as driver side above dash cluster, potentially causing high velocity projectiles in the event of airbag deployment. Vehicle was stationary when cracks occurred.
While driving heard a snapping sound that came from the windshield area, at first thought it was road debris that hit the windshield but there was no visible damage. Upon returning home I did a more through inspection to find a dash board crack over the passenger side airbag.
The dash is cracked near the airbag and I am concerned for the safety of my passengers if an accident were to occur.
The dash is cracked and broken in multiple places on both sides of the dash. Most concerning is the crack next to the airbag panel. If the airbag were to deploy, will it still work, and what will happen to the dash when it explodes out. The crack was first noticed last fall and just gotten worse since then.
This is another incident that occurred the same week as my last complaint. While driving home from lunch I slowed the vehicle as I was going down a hill, this did not require any use of the accelerator pedal. Upon slowing down my vehicle displayed the following messages: "service traction control", "service stabilitrack", "reduced engine power". The SUV would not accelerate over 15mph requiring my to pull to the side of the road. The vehicle shook violently until I was able to put it in park and turn off the engine. After 10 minutes of sitting on the side of the road I stared the engine again. The SUV started right up but the "check engine" light remained on until the following day. Engine codes lead to a faulty throttle body position sensor which was replaced after the incident on 7/13. I took my vehicle to the GMC dealer today who informed me of the same problem yet again. These are either bad parts or a some bigger gm issue.
While driving to work on the interstate I approached slow moving traffic. The SUV started right up but the "check engine" light remained on. This was a terrifying experience on a busy stretch of hwy 88 outside of chicago. I hope others do not have to go through this experience.
My front dashboard is cracking in 2 places on both the passenger and drivers side. First noticed while driving on the highway.
Dash cracking above instrument panel and around passenger airbag. If airbag were to be deployed sharp plastic could inhibit airbag or could injure passenger this is a very widespread issue in all Yukon, tahoe, suburban, silverado and sierra trucks of the 07-12 model years.
Dash around airbag cracked and presents safety hazard from plastic shrapnel if airbag deploys also dash cracks around instrument panel can cause shrapnel to be launched into occupants causing bodily harm. Cracks happen while vehicle stationary.
The dashboard on my 2007 GMC Yukon denali has cracked in 2 places- above the steering wheel and near the passenger side airbag.
Multiple cracks along the dash where the airbags are located.
I am writing to inform a safety hazard issue with my 2007 GMC, Yukon. Over the past couple of years a crack has formed over the meter combo. Since that crack has formed, it has caused a piece of the dash to break out. The cracks in dash have also caused vibration of the dash and has caused two other cracks in the dash to appear around the passenger airbag. I am concerned in the event that an accident does occur that the dash will crumble/break in the driver/passenger face. This could cause very life threatening injuries. Please consider reporting this to GMC dealers for further investigation of these dashes and consider a recall.
I own a 2007 Yukon denali and have had the dash crack by the passenger air bag and by the drivers console I went to GMC and they sat so sorry nothing we can do as I stated to them it will affect my air bag going off they didn't seem to care.
Dashboard crack behind steering wheel, at bottom/base of the hump. Crack extends from seam toward driver. This vehicle is parked every day and night in our garage.
The dash has completely cracked for a second time along the drivers side and around the airbag. This is a original gm $380 dash that was put in and has cracked again. It is unsafe if the airbag deploys it will push the broken plastic into the passenger causing bodily injury.
I have 2 separate cracks on my dash, one is located on the passenger side near the airbag, the other one is located on the hump above the instrument panel. The cracks keep getting longer, my dash rattles, it is very noticeable and gm has yet to issue a recall for this problem. I shouldn't have to pay out of pocket for something I didn't cause to happen. I'm beyond frustrated with this situation.
The dash board has a large crack that stretchs from the passenger air bag to the drivers side. I'm concerned that this can impact the function of the air bag system or cause harm to the passenger in the event of an accident.
The dashboard developed a crack just above the passenger side airbag. What effect this will have should airbag deploy is unknown. `.
The dash cracked in multiple places including around the airbag, over the steering wheel, around the vent and multiple other areas. I had this repaired because I was concerned with the safety. The repair cost $385.
I own an 07 Yukon denali and the dashboard has three seperate cracks in them. Two of them are on the driver side and the other one is on the passenger side near the airbag. I've seen multiple complaints online as well as on this site and it's a shame we spend all this money on these luxury vehiicles but GMC refuse to issue a recall for an obvious problem. I was given a quote of over $1000 to replace it. I had to place a small piece of paper between the cracks just to avoid the obnoxious and annoying sound that it makes while driving, not to mention so my hand wouldn't accidentally push it in resulting in my hand possibly getting stuck in the cracks. Ouch!! it sounds like constant rattling. The driver and passenger chrome door handles are peeling which can cause some serious cuts to your hands if not careful. GMC the least you can do is offer recalls for your customers. I've owned a GMC Yukon from 2002-current. I would hate for this to be my last.
Dash cracking in around the passenger side airbag area, presenting potential danger if the airbag deploys. Dash also cracking on the driver's side. These cracks hinder the overall strength and cosmetics of dash along with decrease the overall value of said vehicle.
Dashboard is cracked at both corners of the passenger air bag as well as over the steering wheel dash (plastic used to make these dashes is the cause of the cracking in 2007-2013 gm and Chevrolet trucks). I am extremely concerned that in the event of an accident; either the cracked plastic will cause the air bag to puncture (serious life safety concern) or the pieces of cracked plastic will be projectiles and possible be harmful to all passengers of the vehicle. Apparently gm has stated that the plastic used to make these dashboards is the cause of all of these cracks however they will not issue a recall. There are class action suits being looked into but the 2007 - 2009 vehicles are out of this group because of the bankruptcy that gm filed. I do not feel that the government bail out and bankruptcy should relieve them of the life safety issue these cracked dashes are causing. There is an entire face book page with 3,323 members that have been unable to get gm to replace their dashes. This is completely unacceptable. Someone must have to be killed in an accident before they will issue a recall.
Cracked dash at airbag and across bottom of hump at steering wheel. Crack at steering wheel keeps growing. Its embarrassing and now makes a rattling sound.
Dash cracking in multiple places, one impacting passenger side dash airbag cover. Concern over safety if airbag was to deploy or of sharp plastic dash shards hitting a vehicle occupant. Dash is unsightly and vibration of cracked area is annoying. Was told it is poor material quality and poor fit that are root of these dashes cracking. Vehicle is always garaged and this happened over time. The cracks are spreading.
Crack in dash behind the steering wheel to the left of the hump. Was told that it could compromise the airbag. Needs to be a recall on this, as I see that many, many other people have this same problem.
Cracks in dash around airbag will cause injury with deployment. Cracks on the dash will cause I just in accident.
I noticed cracks opening near the front passenger airbag area and on the top of speedometer cluster. Contacted the gm and I was told a series of excuses such "your warranty is over", "you bought the car used ( I bought it from a gm dealer under the pre-owned warranty)", or "maybe you used products that crack the plastic!" after a brief research I found out tens of thousands of complaints about gm made vehicles with the same problem. The crack open at the same exact spots, down to the millimeter, and it happen in the brand new cars as well as the older ones. It is clear that this is a manufacturer defective item, and result of a wrong design. Gm does not replace the part unless we pay for it. They are not concerned that parts could fly into the cabin as a result of the air bag deployments and refuse to address the issue. Our cars loose also their value with a defective/broken dash board. The funniest excuse by gm was: "OH, the dash parts are made in mexico! you know how the mexicans are!".
My door handle on the rear driver passenger side had become really loose. My 5 year old son pulled the handle to open the door and the handle practically came off. The door handle is unusable and will need to be replaced. Here in hawaii the cost to replace the part is ridiculous. I purchased a 2004 Yukon brand new and loved it. When my car was totaled by a tree during bad weather, I purchased another Yukon in 2008, this time a 2007 model. Since then I have had the car stall while driving, dealer says it's ok, had the rims replaced because they were peeling, just noticed there is a crack in the plastic dashboard where the air bag is on the passenger side, the button for the rear window has fallen out and now my door handle has fallen off!!! I paid top dollar for my car and feel I paid for a "sour lemon". American car with parts manufactured in china????? I think GMC should own up to these issues and have it recalled as the truck is only 6 years old. I see rusted out beater cars from the 70's still cruising around yet all the original door handles etc. . . Are still in great working condition. What the heck!!!! I may never purchase a GMC again. . . . . . . . . . . .
Dash board cracked around air bag last year and now a major crack over the steering wheel that is caving the dash board in I can see down under it!.
Front dashboard cracks by the windshield and air bags.
Major cracking in dashboard -- large crack front to back over instrument cluster; other serious cracks in middle rear of dash; more around passenger airbag cover. This dashboard is completely defective and must be made of cheap plastic. . . As an unintended consequence, my passenger airbag compartment is now surrounded by loose pieces of plastic shrapnel. . . Not safe. I have read online and become aware that this is a widely known common problem on these gm dashboards. . . Please don't wait for casualty statistics to kick in. . . This is a common sense issue that is clearly defective and gm should be made to recall these unsafe dashboards before the personal injury statistics build up.
