2 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2024 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/29/2025

I am the owner of a 2024 GMC Yukon (VIN: [xxx] ), purchased from hatchett Buick GMC on [xxx]. This vehicle was purchased at a high price with the expectation that it would provide reliability and keep my family safe. Unfortunately, that is clearly not happening. The Yukon continues to suffer from severe power loss that neither the dealership nor gm technicians have been able to diagnose or repair. In addition, this vehicle is subject to an unresolved engine recall, further undermining safety and confidence in the vehicle. Multiple times while driving I have had total power loss with no warning or indicators of this happening through lights or warnings on the vehicle. This is separate from the engine recall issues I am currently experiencing as well. While driving the Yukon will lose all electrical power. The vehicle is still currently at the dealership trying to be diagnosed. It has been 2 weeks. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

4 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 05/29/2025

I was stopped at a traffic light and was informed by another driver that my right tail lamp was not working. There were no warning lights indicating that there was a problem. When I arrived home, it began working after I tapped on it. A few days later, the left tail lamp stopped working. I began to realize that both tail lamps were only working intermittently. Upon inspection by the mechanic, I was informed that this is a common problem with my vehicle and that each replacement part is approximately $900, totaling nearly $2,000 to replace both lamps. This is an obvious safety hazard for myself and for others who may not be able to judge when I am stopping, especially if I have to stop suddenly.

5 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 05/15/2025

The driver-side headlight and turn signal on my 2022 GMC Yukon stopped functioning completely. This issue began before gm recall 22v?903 and worsened immediately after the recall repair was performed. The recall repair required three separate dealership visits because it was initially performed improperly, yet the problem was never fully resolved. During interactions with gm and the dealership, I was told the repair might involve a $600 part, but they could not guarantee that replacing it would fix the issue. It is unreasonable and unsafe for me to be expected to cover the cost of repairs for a problem that was caused or worsened by a recall repair performed incorrectly. The malfunction creates a serious safety hazard, as oncoming drivers cannot see my turn signals, and I nearly had an accident because of it. The problem has been confirmed by the dealership and documented in gm case #74327012. Prior to complete failure, the driver-side turn signal and daytime running lights occasionally stayed on after shutting off the vehicle which I was told that was caused by the recall. The vehicle has been inspected by authorized gm dealerships multiple times, but the defect persists. The component is available for inspection upon request.

6 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2024 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 01/25/2025

2024 GMC Yukon with less than 2,000 miles decided not to start one day. Had a tow truck come to the house and pick it up to take to a local shop to get a new battery. Replaced the battery and the battery shop delivered to car back to our house and was totally fine…the next day we went to start it and again the battery was toast. So, got another tow truck to deliver to the dealership and had it checked out, the dealership says there are 12 codes popping up and they can’t figure out why the batteries are not holding at this point. This is a diesel Yukon. We had a 2022 escalade that the motor went belly up on us 3 times before we bought this diesel Yukon thinking this problem would go away but I guess I was wrong. I will be returning this Yukon to the dealership and doing a buyback. We have been stranded way too many times with these gm vehicles and I’m starting to loose trust with general motors.

7 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/05/2024

My vehicle is currently in the shop getting the motor worked on for a bad lifter. From the information the mechanic provided me this is a common issue with the vehicles that have the active fuel management system. They are seeing many of these vehicles have to come in and have very expensive repairs. My first quote I received was $16, 000, they told me I needed a whole new motor and this assessment cost me $365 and a rental car while they looked at the truck. Now it is in the shop again and the estimate is $6000 to machine the cams as there are metal shavings in my oil. I had to again rent a rental vehicle and have not had my truck for a week. This is the third mechanic that has seen multiple of these motors have to be replaced or repaired due to this issue. I kept up on my oil changes and other recommended car maintenance and so did the owner before me. I had my last oil change approx. A week before the loud ticking noise began, then my vehicle began to have a noticeable loss of power when driving and eventually began shuttering and my check engine light began to blink and I took it to the shop. A year ago I had to replace my tail lights. I was able to find where others were recalled by my VIN for some reason was not included in the recall. They started shorting out and working only part of the time which is very dangerous when stopping, especially at night. I had them replaced and paid almost $700 for the two back lights.

9 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/05/2024

Drivers side tail light flickering and sometimes not working a $900+ cost! I issue with right hand side when SUV has 32k miles, seems like this is an ongoing issue, luckily it was still under warranty the 1st time. The ac condenser when out in April, also an know issue with the Yukon, they wanted to charge me $1500 to repair, I was able to find someone to do it for around $600, now the outlet and usb ports seem to not work. I also had an issue with the braking system , dealer couldn't figure it out, I finally found someone to repair it, $500 fix. For what I paid for the Yukon, you would think they would use top of the line parts!.

11 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 03/12/2024

Rear led taillights circuit boards broken. Disabling both stop tail lights causing serious safety hazard. We had no clue driving around and we didn't have any brake lights another driver had to tell us. So we googled this problem and it turns out that all of 2017 GMC Yukon have the same issue. There's even multiple websites to repair them as well as auto supply stores selling replacements for $1,000 and the dealership wants $1,500. This is a real problem and gm needs to make this right and recall all of these and replace them before somebody gets hurt if they haven't already.

12 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 02/22/2024

In July 2021 the passenger side tail light stopped working. A certified GMC dealer replaced both tail lights. In Feb 2024 the driver side tail light failed.

13 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 01/25/2024

Rear (tail/stop) lights on both sides, would work intermittently. Turns out it’s a known issue with the led circuit boards. They consistently break in 2 places, leaving the vehicle with no tail lights/stip lights. Gm knows of the issue , but since it’s not considered a safety issue, they do nothing. It’s clearly a safety issue, as following drivers may not see lights, on the rear. Clearly, it is definitely a safety issue, as it can easily cause an accident, not knowing a car is there in the dark , or not knowing that the vehicle in front of them is on the brakes, and slowing.

14 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 01/11/2024

The lighting on the entire interior infotainment area will randomly go bright and dim all by itself. I was almost in an accident on the interstate due to this. It was blinding and distracting to have the lighting dim and then go bright. It has been randomly doing this for about a month. I called GMC and they said they had no record of this happening on other vehicles, however when I searched for the issue with my vehicle, I realized other GMC owners have experienced the same issue. I was able to get a video of it happening one morning while waiting in my driveway to drop my kids off at the bus stop. I was in the parked position. There are no warning or messages when the lighting malfunctions, so I am not at all prepared when the car turns the lighting to max brightness. It poses a risk when driving by blinding the driver, causing the driver to loose focus while driving trying to adjust the lighting back to dim. It is an unnecessary distraction. The dealership couldn't confirm any malfunctions in my car. As previously stated, I have a video of the malfunction, but I am not able to upload it. I am willing to send via email.

15 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 12/09/2023

Both tail lights fail. I just bought this vehicle at ewald automotive in oconmowoc WI a month ago with 100k and I know they were aware of the problem and so is GMC. I am not paying 900 bucks for each tail light. They are absolute junk. The left side someone already messed with it because there is electrical tape on it. Ewald laughed in my face.

16 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/10/2023

The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that on several occasions while the vehicle was parked, the passenger’s side rear taillight failed to illuminate. 17 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2016 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/09/2023

The oem led taillights can fail due to a manufacturing deficiency. A metal strip that connects the led's to the cars taillight circuit develops a crack and interrupts current flow to the taillight led's. The above is common knowledge to the car community and is searchable on line. Concerns: 1) if both taillights are failed at the same time the vehicle doesn't have any of the required visible markings, especially at night. 2) from an economic point of view, unlike vehicles that use incandescent light bulbs that are easily replaced when burnt out, these led light assemblies have to be completely replaced to the cost of several hundred dollars plus labor which could/will lead to the neglecting of this repair because of the economics. 3) unlike incandescent bulbs, led's are should last much longer to the point of outlasting the life of the vehicle. This isn't the case when there is a manufacturing defect. In my case on 10/21/21 the defective taillight assemblies was replace under a defective taillight extended warranty agreement. I requested to have both replaced because of the odds of the second one failing. They refused. So when the opposite side assembly failed recently I was out of the extended warrant date resulting in a cost to me of $392. 88 labor included. In conclusion, the well documented failure of the above taillight assemblies leads to vehicles being non conforming to fmvss.

Failure Date: 07/19/2023

Rear brake lights fail due to an issue known by GMC - multiple GMC Yukon and Yukon xl have this issue. All within the same year. The metal connector in the brake housing fails and requires it to be soldered or a complete replacement costing consumers $800+ for replacement. A severe safety issue as the brake lights quit working!!.

Failure Date: 07/15/2023

Driving towards the bank and suddenly the truck turned off … no warning nothing it turned off while operating .

21 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/08/2023

The brake lights intermittently come on and off. Not reliable and the entire assembly has to be replaced per light in order to work. Sometimes if you hit a bump it will work for a bit then go back out. They have been removed, cleaned, but there is no way to fix them without replacing them. This is a known problem with GMC and they will not warranty or recall this issue.

22 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/02/2023

The taillights started to randomly go in and out. The driver side taillight stopped working but the passenger side taillight still worked. Then a day later the driver side taillight worked, but the passenger side taillight didn’t work. The next day we were going to look into this issue, and the driver and passenger side taillights were working, so we halted. We kept an eye on it and they seemed to continue to work for a few days with no issues, so drove it 20 miles to work. When I left work it was dark and I had a coworker check my brake lights before leaving and the running lights and brake lights were indeed working. By the time I arrived at home, I had no running or brake lights. This is and was a danger to others and myself as this could’ve caused an accident driving and the taillights going out. The truck did not give a warning message that I had no taillights.

23 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/24/2023

Rear tail lights failure.

24 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/15/2023

This is a common issue that is not being resolved by gm. First one, now both of my rear tail lights are malfunctioning due to manufacturing defects. This is a well publicized problem and I feel that gm should be responsible for continuing to ignore the issue. Replacement tail lights are approximately $750 each. There are many businesses that have sprung up solely to repair these tail lights.

25 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2016 GMC Yukon

29 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 05/15/2023

Both tail lights have stopped working. I purchased in 2019 with 60k miles and by the time the first tail light failed, I was over the 72k limit. If these lights failing was an issue before, it still is an issue and the special warranty should be extended to ensure replacement of faulty items.

30 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 05/11/2023

One rear brake light was intermittently malfunctioning even though the vehicle only has 80,000 miles and is a 2017 model. Upon researching online, I saw that 2015 and 2016 models were recalled for this. 2017 was given a limited term to have the vehicle fixed if they were experiencing the issue. I was not experiencing the issue at the time, so I was responsible for a large chunk of the cost of repairing the light through the dealer at GMC. GMC did inspect the vehicle. The company was made aware of the problem. The dealer discussed it with them and they agreed to pay half as a "favor" basically to have the rear light replaced.
