There is a special policy to replace faulty tail lamps. However, the policy is only extended through 72,000 miles or 5 years which is ridiculous, and should be a recall. I had my drivers side tail lamp replaced in February 2022 because it was not working. I wasn’t aware of the mileage and year restrictions at that time. Fast forward to today, I have my passenger side tail lamp intermittently working. Now out of the specific time frame, I’m left to encounter this expense out of my own pocket. Clearly gm is aware of the problem, but has not issued a recall on the tail lamp issue. It’s not just a burned out brake light, but apparently an electrical issue with the way they were initially wired. This is a very dangerous situation, as I have no idea if and when my brake light is out. God forbid if they were to go out and I were to be rear ended due to gms lack of taking responsibility.

Rear brake light has stopped working. GMC dealer quotes $990 to replace one tail light assembly. It appears to be a common problem caused by a weak conductor that breaks inside the assembly. . Read more...

Both rail lights went out at the same time. No reason whatsoever.
Illuminated emblem failed due to apparent water intrusion. It caused drivers side head lamp to operate improperly. At first it caused headlamp to flicker, as if a short. Then it caused headlamp to remain on when it shouldn't. It would not cut off. Therefore, risk of battery going dead and being stranded. It could also cause trouble driving, therefore causing a wreck. My vehicle is currently in the shop for this and no recall has been issued by gm. It's a known issue, had been a known issue for over 7 months, and still no resolution!! I had to pay extra for this emblem, and they're not offering a refund for an added oem accessory that will not operate! they have issued a temporary "fix" until resolution is found, again, 7 months and still no resolution!.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed in a parking lot, she suddenly saw a blinding glare and then crashed into a light pole. The air bags did not deploy. The contact stated that her two infant children were inside the vehicle with her and that there were no injuries. No warning lights were illuminated. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken back to the contact's residence. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where various unknown repairs were completed. The contact had received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 22v903000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000.
Numerous reports of taillights and headlights not working properly and no recall like it should be.
There was recall for n182180270 tail lamps inoperative, for some reason my vehicle being a 2015 was not included. This issue is ongoing with my 2015 Yukon denali and is dangerous while operating, it recently started and is intermittent. Also my vehicle has issues with hard shifting and jerking intermittently when taking off. . . . Also a known issue for this year and make/ model of vehicle.
Rear passenger running lights just stopped working. I have seen several people with the same issue. I think there should be a recall for gm to fix the issue they are clearly aware of.
I received a letter from GMC dated December 2019 warning of brake lights intermittenly not illuminating. I have periodically checked the lights for failure over the last 3 years. On September 8, 2022, a motorist pulled beside me and informed me that my brake lights were not working. I confirmed that the lights were not working and called GMC regarding the letter I had received in 2019 and was told that a recall had not been issued and that my vehicle was outside the 6 year eligibility period. This defect is extremely dangerous to myself and others due to the inherent unpredicability and unreliabilty of an important safety necessity, I. E. , knowing that others will see that I am stopping/slowing down. I believe that due to the intermittent nature of the failure of a highly necessary safety feature, GMC should issue a recall to repair at no cost all vehicles.
R rear taillight and brake light does not work and no indicator light to warn me. Do not know how long its been out. Afraid to drive. Had it checked and found special policy n182180270 . I contacted dealer and they said it would be $69. 00 to just verify issue. Contacted manufacture and was told it was out of coverage by less than 100 days. The vehicle has less than 40,000 miles and stays in garage. Case # 9-8269822 they said it had to be inspected by dealer that is a 40 mile round trip though traffic with no brake light , not safe especially when the instructions on the policy states just to turn light on and verify if it works ,if not replace unit.
Left tail light flickers, after reading internet comments learned that tail light board connections are made of very flimsy metal material, they crack with normal vehicle operations. Led lamps are fine but the power connections to the lamps breaks therefore it renders taillights useless. Replacement cost of those lamps are $700-$800 parts alone. On the internet there is some information I’ll attach that pdf.
Passenger taillight goes out. Replaced it twice now and now I have to do it again a 3rd time. They know of this issue but have done nothing to fix it or offer anything to help cover cost.
Driver’s side rear tail light stopped working. It’s not even 5 years old. Bought August 2017 brand new. I know there is a recall on 2015-2016 models for the same problem.
Tailights are not working as per the dealer (thompsons GMC of placerville, CA). Unable to drive the car at night or near sunset.

The drivers side rear brake lights stopped working. Gm did a warranty extension ( that admits an issue). But ours just expired. . This is an $800 to $1000 repair that owners should not have to pay. . Gm refuses to cover this expense. This is an absolute saftey issue. Of course, any law enforcement officer will agree as they will write a safety violation ticket (as they should) I understand that owners are responsible for all maintenance of their vehicles, but this issue is a flaw in design. Most owners ( like us) can’t afford to pay this outrageous price for a simple break light replacement. As the entity of government that oversees the manufacture of these vehicles, there must be a safety recall!! honestly, I am disappointed that no safety recall hasn’t been ordered for this issue. This problem is going to result in many many rear end accidents. Please fix this and save lives. Passage tail, brake light works when it want. One day it work the next day it don’t! I’m scared that I will get pulled by the police or somebody hit me in the back.
Tail light failure with no ability to change out bulb. Entire assembly must be changed which costs nearly $1000.
Passenger brake light stop working. Had the dealer ship inspect the light and was informed that the whole unit had to be replaced at a cost of $1000. So I purchased the part for $800. And replaced it myself tech. Informed me that gm had a recall on the 2015 and 2016 model's but has not included the 2017 model year.
My issue pertains to a known problem. The driver's side tail light has failed. Gm issued special coverage adjustment n182180270 because of this issue where the part was covered for up to 6 years or 72k miles. Mine failed after 6 years and 4 or 5 months at 66k miles. It's utterly ridiculous that a defective, $800 light is fine to break after 6 years with no warranty assistance.
The driver’s side brake light assembly failure of no brake light when brake is applied. It can be inspected upon request. This may cause another driver to not notice intentions to stop or slowdown and cause an accident. This problem is constant. It has not been inspected. No warnings of the failure has been displayed.
The passenger brake light intermittently stops working.
Running lights on rear keep failing. This is a known issue with these models.
Rear tail / break light no longer works .
Headlights are terrible. Driving at night is treacherous because the headlights are not very bright unless I can use brights which seems like they could be low beam instead of high beam. With oncoming traffic it is hard to see the road and I get scared it may cause an accident, either hitting an oncoming car or going off the road myself. It's terrible. Others have commented on the headlights also asking me how can I see. There is no film on the covering over headlights. I can see the bulbs just fine but they look burnt. My husband thought so too. Just scared driving at night. Need better headlights!.

Brake light not working.
Tail lights do not work when I press the brakes. I have been warned multiple times by drivers.
Last month the passenger tail light stopped working. We took it out not realizing that you have to replace the entire unit. So we put the tail light back in and it magically started working again. Then yesterday the driver's side tail light stopped working, so we did the same. Took it out, waited and put it back (since we know we can't just run to the store and get a new one), except this time it didn't start working. I know there's a recall on the tail lights but I can't seem to find anyone to help me. The vehicle is only 6 years old and the tail lights at $800 each, should last a lot longer than that!.
Led brake light wiring comes undone causing brake lights to go out.
The contact owns a 2015 GMC Yukon denali. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact stated he was following behind in another vehicle and noticed that the tail lights were out. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed with failed exterior lighting assemble. The exterior lighting assemble needed replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated he had to replace the exterior lighting assemble three times since March of 2022. The contact stated that each time the vehicle was taken to the dealer and repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 109,554.
Just driving along yesterday in my Yukon, and when I stopped another driver pulled up to me and informed me my right rear brake light is not working. Upon further investigation, it comes in and out (sometimes it works sometimes it does not). I had this same issue with my 2015 Yukon, I would have thought gm would have this fixed by now, very expensive fix on my 2015, assuming it’s the same cost or close. Very dangerous to have a brake light out and reduce another drivers reaction time to stop and prevent a rear end collision. Furthermore the vehicle has no indication that a light or bulb is out, a lot of vehicles have that programming, surprisingly this does not.
Taillights and brake light leds go out unexpectedly or work intermittently creating a safety hazard that drivers behind the Yukon are unable to see your taillights at night or when your braking causing potential rear end collisions. For this common problem gm recalled the taillights of 2015-16 models, but the 2017+ models that still have the same exact taillights with the same issue but has not been recalled yet. Costing owners out of warranty $800 per taillight assembly. Please look into this safety issue.
The left rear tail light has gone out. There is no user replaceable bulb and this is a sealed unit. The deal has quoted almost $800 to replace. I feel a sealed unit should not fail prematurely and should last the entirety of the life of the vehicle. Had it been user serviceable, this would be a simple repair/fix.
I have had to replace both front and rear exterior lighting in past (3). Now my rear brake light is now out. This makes 3 exterior that I’ve had to complete replace. Went out suddenly. No way to replace bulbs, dealer reports entire assembly needs replacing at cost of almost $1000. There has to be a design flaw that every exterior lighting has gone out for so many owners and has to be replaced. There should be a recall on this. This model has had so many costly issues.
