My vehicle fuel pump control module has failed. GMC has an open recall for my year, make and model however claims that my vehicle is not listed on the recall list that came out around 9/15/2025. I contacted GMC and they cannot provide me with a specific reason as to why it’s not included.

In January 2021, I purchased a new 2021 GMC Yukon denali from a GMC dealership, which currently has only about 27,000 miles. To date, several recalls have been assigned and completed for my vehicle. Per the websites for GMC and your agency. However, based on published recalls for my vehicle and a repair that is currently underway, I have reason to believe that my vehicle should have been subject to three prior recalls for which it was not [NHTSA id numbers: 20v735000 (front seat bolts), 25v274000 (v8 engine failure, and 21v739000 (fuel power control module] currently, the fuel pump control module is being replaced at a local GMC dealership because it failed last week and left my stranded at home. GMC issued a recall for this in 2021, but my vehicle was not included. Aside from risk and inconvenience, this is also costing my over $300 for a rental. Secondly, though my vehicle's make/model/year is cited in GMC's ongoing engine failure recall, which you are investigating, I have not received a recall notice. I note GMC's financial interest in minimizing vehicle's it recalls for such a costly repair. I have inquired with GMC and two of its dealers and have only received reiterations that my vehicle has not been subject to GMC's recall, which I already knew. I have not been given any explanation for why my Yukon has not been recalled despite my inquiries. Lastly, GMC issued a 2021 recall for front seat bolts; however, I did not receive a notice for my Yukon. I have occasionally felt slight movement in the driver's seat since buying the vehicle. Based on reason and facts, I am alleging that GMC appears to be artificially minimizing recalls and notifications for vehicles that are in fact impacted by defects in their vehicles.
[xxx] [xxx] phone: [xxx] email: [xxx] [date] national highway traffic safety administration office of defects investigation (odi) 1200 new jersey avenue, se washington, d. C. 20590 subject: safety complaint regarding 2020 GMC Yukon xl denali – repeated engine failures (VIN: [xxx] ) to whom it may concern: I am writing to formally file a safety complaint regarding my 2020 GMC Yukon xl denali (VIN: [xxx] ) which I purchased in 2021. This vehicle has experienced repeated and dangerous mechanical failures that raise significant safety concerns. •March 2024: the oil pump failed, resulting in immediate engine issues. Repairs were completed under warranty, but the check engine light remained on afterward. •April 2024: the vehicle broke down again. At that time, the cams and lifters were replaced in addition to other service, but the underlying issues were not resolved. •August 2025: the vehicle failed once again. After taking it in, the service department could not determine the cause. When they believed they had identified the issue and took it for a test drive, the vehicle broke down again and had to be towed back to the shop. At that point, I was informed that the vehicle now requires a complete motor replacement and a new fuel pump. Each of these failures has left me stranded and placed me and my family in unsafe situations on the road. Despite contacting the dealership (joseph Cadillac of dublin), general motors, and the warranty company, none have taken responsibility to properly resolve the issues. I believe this represents a potential defect in the engine or related systems that could impact many other consumers. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this matter to determine whether a broader safety recall or manufacturer action is warranted. Thank you for your attention to this matter and for helping ensure consumer safety. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Fuel pump power control module failed while driving. This part was included in a recall in 2021 but our VIN appears to not have been impacted.
Dealership refused to inspect engine and provide new oil in regards to recall, they charged me $208. 75 for oil that was supposed to be completed under recall l87 for gm.
It has been several months since recall on l87 was issued. My truck now has over 44k miles and I’ve contacted the dealer, they note there’s no fix in sight. I’ve been having some issues with engine sluggishness on acceleration at times and I’m concerned this is related to the recall. I’m now stuck with this potentially dangerous vehicle with no fix, and am concerned. I also can’t get a fiar trade in value due to open recall. Overall, I’m stuck with a defective vehicle that gm refuses to address.

Driving on the highway and the engine completely shut down. The car was automatically placed into neutral and I coasted off the highway to a nearby gas station. The car was taken to the dealer, and they confirmed that it requires a brand new engine.
My 2021 Yukon denali (83264 miles), fuel pump control module failed causing car to lock up without any warning as my son was turning vehicle onto a main street. Car would not restart and wasn’t able to be put into neutral to push it to side of road to a safer location. Police came and put cones around it until tow truck came the next morning. Tow operator got it onto a flatbed, which was difficult due to weight of the vehicle and not being able to put into neutral (fortunately it was in 2wd which helped). It scares me to think what would’ve have happened if my son had been on the busy highway that he was planning to be on the next day or when it was on earlier that day. Vehicle is still at the dealership waiting on the replacement part which apparently is hard to get.
My 2021 GMC Yukon xl denali is part of the April 2025 recall for the 6. 2l v8 engine defect. The dealership confirmed the engine must be replaced, but the part is on backorder, potentially for several months. In the meantime, GMC only authorized a GMC acadia as a courtesy vehicle. The acadia is not comparable to our Yukon xl. We are a family of six, and while the acadia has a third row, there is almost no cargo space with it in use. Our Yukon xl has over three times the cargo capacity, which is necessary for safely transporting luggage and sports equipment during our frequent trips (2–3 times per month). Because of this, we have already been forced to rent a larger SUV at our own expense for a recent trip. GMC’s courtesy transportation program states that owners should receive comparable transportation during recall repairs. Despite escalating through the dealership, GMC customer assistance, and even the regional manager, we were denied a comparable loaner or guaranteed rental coverage. This leaves our family in an unsafe and impractical situation while waiting months for the recall repair.
Truck loss power turning off while making a turn into driveway with incoming traffic. Happen on several occasions. Diagnostic at dealership states high pressure fuel pump is leaking fuel internal making it run rich. Nhtsa states this model truck has had previous recall.

Vehicle: 2021 GMC Yukon denali component: fuel system, gasoline – fuel pump control module incident date: 7-10-2025 mileage 61,263 location: sr 2006 coats, nc summary of complaint: while my wife was pulling out of our neighborhood in our 2021 Yukon denali, the vehicle suddenly shut off while navigating a slight curve. It came to a complete stop in the roadway and could not be restarted. The engine would not crank, and the vehicle could not be shifted into neutral, making it impossible to move out of traffic. The Yukon remained disabled in the roadway for over an hour and ultimately had to be towed. Upon inspection, the dealership mechanic immediately identified the issue without even running diagnostics. He confirmed it was a failed fuel pump control module, which he stated is a common issue with this model. This failure represents a serious safety risk, particularly had it occurred on a high-speed interstate or in dense traffic. A sudden loss of power and inability to move the vehicle can result in dangerous roadside situations or collisions. GMC needs to address this recurring defect before it leads to more severe incidents or injuries. No warning lights or indicators appeared prior to the failure.
While driving the vehicle shut off, leaving my family stranded in the middle of traffic. It was a 90+ degree day and my family was stuck in a hot car unable to move off the roadway. This was very unsafe. No warning lights prior, the engine just stopped. After multiple times trying to restart the vehicle, the battery died. After waiting several hours, the vehicle was towed to the local dealership where it was determined that the driver fuel control module needed replaced and re programmed.
I am filing this complaint regarding gm recall n252494000 (NHTSA campaign number 25v274) for my 2024 GMC Yukon xl (VIN: [xxx] ). The issue involves a serious engine defect related to the crankshaft and/or connecting rods, which can result in catastrophic engine failure and loss of propulsion while driving—a clear and dangerous safety risk. I first became concerned when early reports of this issue began circulating publicly. As a father of young children, I became increasingly uneasy that my vehicle could potentially fail while in operation. Receiving gm’s formal recall letter only validated my growing concern for my family’s well-being. It’s deeply frustrating and unsettling. The notice states that parts to repair or replace the engine are not currently available, and offers no clear timeframe for when a remedy will be provided. I feel like we are being strung along while forced to continue using a vehicle that may become unsafe at any moment. This delay is unacceptable. There has been no offer of a loaner vehicle, no proactive communication from the dealer, and no assurance from gm that they are prioritizing driver safety over logistics. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether gm is doing enough to provide timely remedies to affected customers. I also urge you to consider whether interim solutions (such as alternative transportation or more aggressive recall execution) should be mandated. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Vehicle stalled while driving and would not turn back on. I had to have it towed over 45 minutes.
While driving on I-77 south near exit 3 charlotte, nc -with no warning signals or indication the vehicle lost power and shut down as I was driving at a speed of 70 miles an hour on the highway, fortunately I was able to struggle and pull off to the emergency lane of the highway. I tried several times to start vehicle with no success. The vehicle was towed to the dealership immediately. My major concern is that this year model "2022 "GMC has not been recalled. A very popular model that families rely on for travel on a daily basis. At 37,000 miles with no warning this happened on a very busy highway that could have resulted in a major accident. I bought this vehicle for extended travel that involves mostly highway. This presents in my eyes a very serious safety hazard that has not been addressed by GMC for this model vehicle. I look forward to your prompt investigation on this very disturbing matter.

Purchased certified used from davis Chevrolet in 2023 with multi-point inspection. Had motor replaced due to engine lifter failure in July 24, 2024. Electronic fuel module failed June 22, 2025. I have had multiple issues in between including alternator, belt/pulley system, rear end issues costing thousands of dollars all while paying a large amount monthly. The vehicle is giving constant issues and is not safe.
Vehicle stalls and shuts off. Unable to start back vehicle as it only cranks and unable to put it in neutral gear to push out of roadway or for towing.
Issue: transmission safety complaint: immediate reduction in forward motion dealer: dealer currently has the car, stuck transmission valve solenoid's. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer: awaiting backorder part to see 30 days warning lights: car had no current warning lights before car immediately down accelerated while on the highway.
Vehicle surged, lost all power while driving, switched to neutral and would not restart.
Vehicle was traveling on interstate and lost power/propulsion and automatically shifted to neutral. Grave danger for eminent death/injury as a result of possible accident.
There is a safety recall but it has not yet been resolved, risking lives.
I own a 2023 GMC Yukon denali xl (VIN: [xxx] ) currently under active recall for the l87 6. 2l engine. Gm has no remedy available and has acknowledged a risk of complete engine failure and loss of propulsion, which could occur without warning. This is the primary vehicle I have for transporting my family of seven, including a toddler. I am significantly upside down on the loan, and the dealership cannot guarantee it is safe to drive. I am requesting that NHTSA escalate the urgency and hold the manufacturer accountable for timely resolution or replacement. ” information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. For whatever reason our 2021 GMC Yukon denali is not listed in the current 2025 GMC motor recall including cams and lifters and accompanying parts. While driving our truck about a mile from the house the vehicle began seizing and shaking (almost as if we had blown several tires); we immediately pulled over and accessed. Called dealership and had truck towed there immediately. We are told that it needs cams and lifters and that b/c our VIN does not pull up a recall that the repairs will cost ~$9800.
Recall n212332040 car lost power and stalled on highway, at highway speed dangerous recall on fuel pump pcm did not cover this year vehicle based on VIN.
We are back on shop for lifter replacement for the 3rd timeand possibly more once they open the project. Valve springs replaced and lifters.
On the morning of Thursday, [xxx], our 2022 Yukon denali departed from west richland, wa with the intent to arrive in spokane, wa. After a short stop in ritzville, wa around [xxx] local time, we entered the freeway ([xxx] to spokane, wa) and attempted to pass a semi-truck. The vehicle got to approximately 60mph and then began to rev without any propulsion to increase speed. The vehicle shut off completely and stated that we were to put the car in neutral and attempt to restart. While going 50-60mph, we shifted into neutral and attempted to restart without any success. While the situation was extremely dangerous give the traffic (semi-truck on the right and an approaching vehicle directly behind us), we slowed the vehicle and maneuvered to the shoulder where we stopped the vehicle. The vehicle would not start so we leverage the onstar system to call a tow truck. Unfortunately, there was no ride available being 1-2 miles outside of ritzville, wa where transportation services do not exist. We requested the help of wa state troopers who picked up 7 of us (4 separate trips) on the side of the highway. The vehicle was towed to spokane, wa and we were left to fend for ourselves to get to spokane. The vehicle is in the shop and we are told based on the codes achieved that it is a full engine failure. I’m filing this complaint regarding my 2022 GMC Yukon denali (VIN: [xxx] , msrp ~$76,805) with an unresolved l87 engine recall. I made an appointment at my local GMC dealership on 5/8/25 specifically for the l87 recall. Upon arrival, staff only documented the serial data gateway module recall, which I hadn’t even known about. When I mentioned the 6. 2l engine, I was asked if I was “sure. ” I believe I was treated dismissively because I’m a woman. After pushing back, staff pulled up the bulletin, confirmed my engine needed replacement, and told me to “drive it until it blows up or there’s a fix, whichever comes first. ” the l87 was only added to my receipt after I insisted—it was falsely listed as an “added operation,” though it was the reason I came in. I sent a certified letter to gm on 5/12/25 (signed for on 5/15/25) confirming the date I tendered the vehicle. Both gm and the dealer were fully aware the 60-day federal repair window had begun. It is now well past that deadline, and the l87 recall remains unresolved. Compounding the issue, the ac failed on [xxx], and the vehicle has been parked since early June due to extreme ky heat, making it unsafe to drive my children. I rely on this vehicle for daily commuting—driving ~100 miles/day for work—and it is also the only vehicle we own capable of towing our family boat, which has now sat unused all summer. I am currently paying $1,000/mo for the Yukon, $600/mo for the boat, and $200/mo for insurance—$1,800/month in preventable financial losses caused by gm’s failure to act. No repair has been offered. No loaner vehicle has been provided. No response has been received. I believe I was misled and discriminated against at the dealership, and I am now financially burdened and without a safe, reliable vehicle. This situation qualifies under the national traffic and motor vehicle safety act for repurchase, compensation, or forced resolution. I am requesting a formal investigation and full remedy. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia.
While driving at approximately 30 mph in moderate traffic on the interstate during a return leg of a 370-mile trip, my vehicle unexpectedly shifted into neutral and became unresponsive. The dashboard displayed the warning message: "condition not correct for shift," and despite repeated attempts to restart the engine, the vehicle would not engage. Although the electrical system remained active, I had no propulsion. Critically, the vehicle became immobilized in a **very dangerous curve on the interstate**, presenting an extreme safety risk to myself and others. The car could not be manually shifted into neutral for towing, prompting illinois department of transportation (idot) to declare the location unsafe. I was stranded there for over three hours, after dark, in a vulnerable and exposed position. During the forced tow process, two rear tires were destroyed and the two front tires sustained major damage. In the days leading up to this incident, the vehicle had also shown signs of malfunction, such as delayed acceleration from a stop and occasional lurching forward — symptoms consistent with the defect described in the recall.
Engine light keeps appearing and when checked it shows catalytic converter needs replaces and its sensors need replaced. Brake light has short in it and I repaireable.

I am formally requesting a complete refund for my vehicle. It has only 6,300 miles, and the remedy provided for the recall does not adequately address the issue. The recall explicitly indicates defects in the engine components (rods/cam shafts) that may lead to a loss of propulsion. Merely inspecting the vehicle and adding thicker oil does not resolve the underlying problem; it only postpones the inevitable expiration of my warranty. Currently, there are no warning lights illuminated, as the vehicle is not driven frequently. The recall raises significant concerns, and gm should be taking more substantial measures than simply applying thicker oil as a solution. This approach feels like a temporary fix rather than a genuine resolution. I have communicated with the dealership, and have been informed there is currently no solution available for this matter. They are awaiting further instructions on how to proceed. I request a more thorough investigation into this issue for an appropriate refund, and I also wish to have this matter documented for future reference.
Recall for engine propulsion. Say that there is no remedy yet. I have read the warnings about what may happen and I am terrified to drive the vehicle. Gm says to contact the dealer, dealer says to contact gm. No one wants to take initiative. If they cannot fix the car, they should buy the car go back so I can get something different. I have been driving an old car around because I’m am afraid of this one. Please help me.
My engine failed while I was driving & I had no warning. It was very scary & dangerous. Luckily I was in an area where I could get off the road quickly. It started skipping then lost power. I basically coasted off the road & had to call for help. It was making a bad knocking noise. This happened 2 weeks ago on April 16. It has been sitting at glynn smith. GMC dealership since. I was told by the service manager that the engine failed & I will need a new engine. The engines are on back order now. I fear they will replace it with the same problem. I see the recall this week but will changing the oil viscosity really fix it?? doubtful. Someone is going to get killed or hurt from this problem. I do not want the same issue to happen with a new engine.
I was driving with my [xxx] son and my car just stalled out in the middle of the road. I couldn’t start it and we were stuck in the middle of the road. My husband arranged for a tow and the repair shop (safe auto repair mont belvieu) told me that this type of thing they have seen a lot of. The fuel pump power control module needed to be repaired and they said when that happens it sometimes shorts out the fuel pump system too. They said they had to repair 4 like this already during the week. My neighbor said the exact same thing happened to her friend GMC at4 a month ago and was also driving and the car just stopped. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Noticeable ticking from the motor, loss of power while driving and smoking. Took to dealership to for repairs. Lifters replaced on one side, within 30 miles after leaving dealership vehicle lost power and would not crank. Per dealership same issue with spun bearing and crankshaft. New lifters and crankshaft placed. While driving 3 weeks later vehicle shifted into neutral and lost power and hand to coast to side of the road. Replace battery and still would not crank, had to be jumped off and able to drive home. 3 codes were retrieved from reader.
