On [xxx] driving to denver the 52,000 mile Yukon started making a clicking sound when accelerating on the interstate. Traction control light came on as well as the check engine light. Low power was noticed and we immediately pulled over as it sounded like it was going to blow up. Towed the vehicle 145 miles where we bought it and the shop confirmed the lifters and 5th cylinder are the issue and that the cams could be damaged. Recommend replacing each side. The car is basically new and under the 60k drive train warranty but about 100 days past the 5 year mark. Terrible timing. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I was driving and a message popped up "service traction control", then another message popped up "forward collision system unavailable". Then the car started making this knocking sound and every time I would try and accelerate there would be a loud sound and almost a pulling stopping it from picking up much speed. I took the car into the dealer/repair shop and they said it was an issue with the lifters that had to be replaced and potentially an issue with the cam. They said this repair would cost upwards of $6,000 and I have never had this issue with the car before. This came out of nowhere and the car had not been showing any signs of this occurring before. This is a 2021 GMC Yukon and I drive my wife and three sons in that car daily.
There is a hesitation when trying to accelerate. The car will then slam forward and there is a rattling noise that the car also makes. This has almost caused accidents. I was driving in town which is where I do most of my driving.

Filling this vehicle with diesel fuel per the manufacturer's user manual instructions results in a fuel leak centered between the rear wheels from somewhere at the top of the fuel tank. This has occurred during almost all fuel fill-up stops over the last year. The local dealer could not find the problem. A similar issue occurred with the 2021 diesel Yukon which has the same fuel tank as verified by part number. This was quietly remedied under warranty by the manufacturer.

High pressure fuel pump housing failed and filled the cabin with fumes. Rendered the the Yukon unsafe to drive with fuel flooding the engine compartment. Took the dealer 57 days to repair the car. No warning lights, only indication was the fumes in the cabin.

Engine failed 1400 miles from home on 6. 2l engine - days after getting l87 engine loss of propulsion recall service. Recall service completed on 12/1/2025 - cap and oil change done - full engine failure on 12/22/2025. 12/1/2025 - l87 engine recall service done at GMC dealership - quincy IL 12/16/2025- check engine light came on - went to same dealership - cleared it told me I was fine to drive across country 12/22/2025 - full engine failure on GMC Yukon denali.
On 8/22/25 was brought to my local GMC dealer for the l87 engine propulsion recall. The dealership tested and said the vehicle passed the test. On 12/3/25 while driving on a multi lane highway the vehicle engine stopped abruptly. The message restart engine appeared on the dashboard. I had to negotiate other vehicle travelling at highway speeds to get to coast off to a side street. The transmission went into "park" and could not be shifted to neutral with a message on the dashboard "transmission cannot be shifted in this configuration". I was blocking the roadway and responding police asked that I attempt to restart the vehicle. I did this numerous times but would not start and the battery ran down. The vehicle was towed to the GMC dealer who said the battery failed and replaced it at my cost even after I told them it was fine and run down from trying to start numerous times while blocking traffic. On 12/17/25 while trying on the same highway, the engine abruptly shut off again in high speed traffic with the same message. I couldn't get fully in the shoulder dye to residual snow from plowing coasting powerless as the vehicle slowed. The transmission locked into park again and I ended up getting towed back to the GMC dealership. They advised me the engine seized up and would have to be replaced. I am still waiting to get the vehicle back.
While driving on a two lane road, my vehicle put itself into neutral without me doing anything and the engine stopped. All things powered down. The engine stopped. Not propulsion, nothing. I tried to pull over to edge of road. Car would not start - no activity. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealership. My safety was put at risk by my car simply stopping while driving down the road. The dealership has confirmed the engine needs to be replaced. There was no warning of engine problems or any indicators.
I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with the vehicle I purchased from your dealership. Despite my expectations at the time of purchase, the vehicle has not met the standards that were represented to me. This letter is intended to address my concerns regarding the vehicle’s features, undisclosed recalls, and significant mechanical and safety issues discovered immediately after delivery. I discovered—through the GMC mobile application, not through the dealership—that the vehicle had two to three active recalls at the time I received it, including recalls involving the engine and transmission. I was never informed of these recalls by the dealership prior to or at the time of sale, which is extremely concerning. After discovering the recalls myself, I scheduled a service appointment. I was informed that the recalls were addressed and marked as resolved in GMC springdale. Despite the recalls being cleared, only two days later, the vehicle began experiencing issues. The screen displayed warning messages, and the vehicle developed a vibration, to the point that it became unsafe to drive. They are changing us $820+tax I was forced to use roadside assistance, it hasn't been a month yet and the dealer are refusing to cover the damage. I have been calling but they said they are busy or they use somebody else to speak.
Misfire then replaced plugs, coils and wires, then change fuel injector, and problem still there, then started truck and was tossing power and motor started ticking. Every shop told me this is the same common problem they're having with all 6. 2l engine and they're all on recall by gm. I know 2016 are not in recall but I think they should be because this problem is in all 6. 2l engine.
I'm vehicle has experience both active recalls for similar model year but my VIN isn't listed as been one that is covered by the call. 25v274000 and 21v739000.
Good afternoon, my 2023 GMC Yukon xl at4 with the 6. 2l l87 engine (approx. 61,000 miles) suffered a sudden and complete engine failure at highway speed while I was driving between canton, OH, and columbus, OH, on the expressway, returning to my home in cincinnati. There was no warning before the engine lost all power and propulsion. I was traveling in the left lane of the interstate in moderately heavy traffic. When the engine shut down, I only had steering and braking available to me. In addition to losing all propulsion, I also lost all electronics, and there was no shoulder. The complete dashboard shut down. The only reason there was not a collision was that the traffic around me could see what was happening and slowed down themselves. I coasted on through the onramp and found a shoulder where I had three lanes of traffic on my left and two lanes on my right. Less than two months before this incident, the vehicle had been inspected and serviced by an authorized gm dealer, and no engine issues were identified. I was given no indication that the engine was at elevated risk of failure. After the breakdown, gm and the dealer determined that the failure falls under gm safety recall n252494002 / NHTSA campaign 25v274000, which involves internal engine defects in the 6. 2l l87 that can cause a loss of propulsion in certain gm trucks and full?size suvs widely used as family vehicles. Gm is replacing the engine, extending the warranty, and providing a loaner, but this does not change the fact that my family was exposed to a serious safety risk, nor does it address the possibility that other owners may experience sudden loss of propulsion even after their engines “pass” dealer inspection. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA is aware that a recalled 6. 2l l87 engine, inspected shortly beforehand, still failed without warning at highway speed in a primary family?hauler vehicle, creating a dangerous situation. Regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(.
I got 3 messages on the dash going off simultaneously 1. Service traction control system 2. Forward collision system unavailable 3. Service esc I could feel the truck bogging and shaking a little at this point then soon after the check engine light was flashing and it was noticeably misfiring and rough idling. I pulled some codes at oreillys and got back 1. P0300 misfire 2. P050d cold start rough idle.
The fuel pressure line from the fuel pump to the flex fuel sensor chaffed a pin hole leak near the front top of the fuel tank. This caused a significant fuel smell and trace leak at the front of the fuel tank which could lead to a fire or explosion. The new hose has a longer chaffing covering leading me to believe gm knew about this issue. Vehicle has 127,000 miles. I feel gm should reimburse me for this repair as a fuel line should not have ever chaffed through and leaked.
On November 14,2025 my engine failed on the highway going 80 mph to 0 mph in the passing lane. Almost caused a major accident on us23. I’ve asked my dealership bowman Chevrolet repeatedly to inspect my engine for the recall and have been denied every time. Most recent was October when I had my oil changed and I was told it wasn’t my turn and the recall for my vehicle was pending. I had my vehicle flatbed towed to the dealership where it sits dead in their parking lot. Thank god we didn’t die on the freeway that night. It was a horrible experience.
While driving northbound on i2 at approximately 70mph I experienced a sudden loss of engine power. Vehicle would not accelerate and engine ultimately powered off. I was able to move across three lanes of traffic and pull over on the side of the highway. I attempted to restart the vehicle but was unsuccessful and after about 10 minutes the engine managed to start. The ‘check engine’ light was on after the incident and upon arriving back home I ran a code scan that resulted in code p129f indicates a problem with the fuel pump control module. There is recall #n252516900 dated 9/11/2025 which covers this issue for 2021 models only. This occurred on a 2023 model.
Driving through the intersection of n. Scottsdale road and e. Bell road in scottsdale az my collision warning red light flashed on the screen and the engine turned off. This caused me to lose forward propulsion and forced me to navigate to the side of the road to avoid being hit by another car. At van’s GMC, the service manager told me that we experienced a catastrophic engine failure and that the engine seized. Vehicle has been inspected, but I have not received an official diagnostic even though I have requested. There were no warnings or indications that the vehicle was compromised prior to the engine turning off.

I purchased this vehicle in may of 2025. It currently has 9840 miles on it. While driving in October the vehicle shut down and locked up. After getting it towed to a dealer I was told the diesel motor and the fuel system were blow and seized and need to be replace. The vehicle is still currently in north carolina while I live in virginia. Supposedly parts are in for repair for 3 weeks now and I still don't have my vehicle nor any info on when I will get back. Davenport GMC of rocky mount and gm have been rather useless in this process. I cant believe I am going through this with a $90,000 car that was four months old.
Driving on loop 20 overpass on hwy 59 in laredo texas suddenly the engine lost power and started to skip and miss fire while a loud tapping noise was generated, due to the loss of power and skipping, alarms showed in the main console requiring immediate service to the engine, traction and braking sys, the lack of engine power place me in a very critical and unsafe situation wherein I was about to be rear collision by the vehicle behind me. This event happened on October 17th, 2025 . I brought the vehicle to powell watson motors who is the GMC dealership in laredo texas for inspection but they refused to accept the vehicle due to the age of the vehicle. I feel this safety issue must me corrected and resolved in order to avoid accidents and deaths.

My vehicle fuel pump control module has failed. GMC has an open recall for my year, make and model however claims that my vehicle is not listed on the recall list that came out around 9/15/2025. I contacted GMC and they cannot provide me with a specific reason as to why it’s not included.
Vehicle would not start. Vehicle was towed to GMC dealership for inspection. Vehicle diagnosed with "fuel pump driver control module" issue and needed to be replaced. This was a known issue for the 2021 GMC Yukon: GMC service bulletin: #24-na-139 (release date August 2024) emission recall: n212332040 (release date September 2021) emission recall: n252516900 (release date September 2025) however, this VIN was not covered under the recalls and payment was required out of pocket. Recall(s) need to be expanded to include additional 2021 GMC Yukon vins - including this one.
In January 2021, I purchased a new 2021 GMC Yukon denali from a GMC dealership, which currently has only about 27,000 miles. To date, several recalls have been assigned and completed for my vehicle. Per the websites for GMC and your agency. However, based on published recalls for my vehicle and a repair that is currently underway, I have reason to believe that my vehicle should have been subject to three prior recalls for which it was not [NHTSA id numbers: 20v735000 (front seat bolts), 25v274000 (v8 engine failure, and 21v739000 (fuel power control module] currently, the fuel pump control module is being replaced at a local GMC dealership because it failed last week and left my stranded at home. GMC issued a recall for this in 2021, but my vehicle was not included. Aside from risk and inconvenience, this is also costing my over $300 for a rental. Secondly, though my vehicle's make/model/year is cited in GMC's ongoing engine failure recall, which you are investigating, I have not received a recall notice. I note GMC's financial interest in minimizing vehicle's it recalls for such a costly repair. I have inquired with GMC and two of its dealers and have only received reiterations that my vehicle has not been subject to GMC's recall, which I already knew. I have not been given any explanation for why my Yukon has not been recalled despite my inquiries. Lastly, GMC issued a 2021 recall for front seat bolts; however, I did not receive a notice for my Yukon. I have occasionally felt slight movement in the driver's seat since buying the vehicle. Based on reason and facts, I am alleging that GMC appears to be artificially minimizing recalls and notifications for vehicles that are in fact impacted by defects in their vehicles.
[xxx] [xxx] phone: [xxx] email: [xxx] [date] national highway traffic safety administration office of defects investigation (odi) 1200 new jersey avenue, se washington, d. C. 20590 subject: safety complaint regarding 2020 GMC Yukon xl denali – repeated engine failures (VIN: [xxx] ) to whom it may concern: I am writing to formally file a safety complaint regarding my 2020 GMC Yukon xl denali (VIN: [xxx] ) which I purchased in 2021. This vehicle has experienced repeated and dangerous mechanical failures that raise significant safety concerns. •March 2024: the oil pump failed, resulting in immediate engine issues. Repairs were completed under warranty, but the check engine light remained on afterward. •April 2024: the vehicle broke down again. At that time, the cams and lifters were replaced in addition to other service, but the underlying issues were not resolved. •August 2025: the vehicle failed once again. After taking it in, the service department could not determine the cause. When they believed they had identified the issue and took it for a test drive, the vehicle broke down again and had to be towed back to the shop. At that point, I was informed that the vehicle now requires a complete motor replacement and a new fuel pump. Each of these failures has left me stranded and placed me and my family in unsafe situations on the road. Despite contacting the dealership (joseph Cadillac of dublin), general motors, and the warranty company, none have taken responsibility to properly resolve the issues. I believe this represents a potential defect in the engine or related systems that could impact many other consumers. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this matter to determine whether a broader safety recall or manufacturer action is warranted. Thank you for your attention to this matter and for helping ensure consumer safety. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Purchased used vehicle in June 2025 when purchased was not advised about an open recall vehicle loss power on 07-29-2025 called dealer advised that car had loss power while driving with entire family in vehicle. Brought vehicle in for checking said open recall they ran a scope test said it passed and only a high velocity oil change would be needed this was on 08-06-2025 two weeks later the vehicle loss power again while driving and caused a vehicle accident and bodily injury and gm states that this was an alleged issue when reported. Will not honor warranty on engine.
Fuel pump power control module failed while driving. This part was included in a recall in 2021 but our VIN appears to not have been impacted.
On 15 Aug 2025, I was driving this vehicle on rte 151 in raccoon township with my 2 children when the vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly experienced a “loss of propulsion” with a corresponding uncommanded shift to “neutral”. Attempts to shift the car back into drive were met with a “parameters not safe” caution. I was fortunate enough that the vehicle behind me was able to slow and an accident was avoided. The thought that this could have happened with my family on the highway, during adverse conditions, or any other scenario is frightening to say the least. Other owners of affected models weren’t as fortunate.

2025 Yukon denali - purchased in July of 2025 specifically to pull air stream trailer. Vehicle was equipped with necessary tow package for this purpose! #1 problem: went into limp mode, stopped in traffic, towed to dealer. One week to repair and replace fuel system. ( under 700 miles ) #2 problem: went into limp mode while pulling trailer, vehicle lost all the transmission fluid on ground. In shop sixteen days waiting for new transmission parts. ( under 700 miles ) #3 problem: vehicle stopped in traffic, towed to dealer where it was determined it needed new engine. In shop Nov 27, 2025, still in shop as of Jan 14, 2026. No eta on engine or delivery. ( under 2000 miles ) #4 problem: during last failure attempt to use "on star" failed, still not resolved. This vehicle is a danger to the owner and its passengers as well as others when it simply stops working in the middle of a busy highway with a 23' trailer in tow. Not to mention I have $160,000 invested in a car and camper I have yet to be able to use.
Engine failure at 114k miles required replacement.

Dealership refused to inspect engine and provide new oil in regards to recall, they charged me $208. 75 for oil that was supposed to be completed under recall l87 for gm.
It has been several months since recall on l87 was issued. My truck now has over 44k miles and I’ve contacted the dealer, they note there’s no fix in sight. I’ve been having some issues with engine sluggishness on acceleration at times and I’m concerned this is related to the recall. I’m now stuck with this potentially dangerous vehicle with no fix, and am concerned. I also can’t get a fiar trade in value due to open recall. Overall, I’m stuck with a defective vehicle that gm refuses to address.
Driving on the highway and the engine completely shut down. The car was automatically placed into neutral and I coasted off the highway to a nearby gas station. The car was taken to the dealer, and they confirmed that it requires a brand new engine.
My 2021 Yukon denali (83264 miles), fuel pump control module failed causing car to lock up without any warning as my son was turning vehicle onto a main street. Car would not restart and wasn’t able to be put into neutral to push it to side of road to a safer location. Police came and put cones around it until tow truck came the next morning. Tow operator got it onto a flatbed, which was difficult due to weight of the vehicle and not being able to put into neutral (fortunately it was in 2wd which helped). It scares me to think what would’ve have happened if my son had been on the busy highway that he was planning to be on the next day or when it was on earlier that day. Vehicle is still at the dealership waiting on the replacement part which apparently is hard to get.
My 2021 GMC Yukon xl denali is part of the April 2025 recall for the 6. 2l v8 engine defect. The dealership confirmed the engine must be replaced, but the part is on backorder, potentially for several months. In the meantime, GMC only authorized a GMC acadia as a courtesy vehicle. The acadia is not comparable to our Yukon xl. We are a family of six, and while the acadia has a third row, there is almost no cargo space with it in use. Our Yukon xl has over three times the cargo capacity, which is necessary for safely transporting luggage and sports equipment during our frequent trips (2–3 times per month). Because of this, we have already been forced to rent a larger SUV at our own expense for a recent trip. GMC’s courtesy transportation program states that owners should receive comparable transportation during recall repairs. Despite escalating through the dealership, GMC customer assistance, and even the regional manager, we were denied a comparable loaner or guaranteed rental coverage. This leaves our family in an unsafe and impractical situation while waiting months for the recall repair.
Truck loss power turning off while making a turn into driveway with incoming traffic. Happen on several occasions. Diagnostic at dealership states high pressure fuel pump is leaking fuel internal making it run rich. Nhtsa states this model truck has had previous recall.
