8 Structure problem of the 2009 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 03/10/2012

The chrome plating on the front passenger door handle is separating from the door handle at the top of the handle, and is extremely sharp (caused cut to fingers on right hand); after this has happened I searched online for possible gm action to resolve and founds reports online of this being reported for 2007 and 2008 gm vehicles (although mine is a 2009). Investigation was supposedly started but cannot find results of this. Spoke to my GMC dealer and they had no advisor's to rectify and would do so at cost.

10 Structure problem of the 2007 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/16/2010

2007 GMC Yukon. Interior door handles. Chrome plating has separated from the top where handle is grabbed. Handles are razor sharp and care is needed when opening door otherwise injury can and has occurred.

11 Structure problem of the 2007 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/08/2010

My 2007 GMC Yukon's chrome interior door handles are peeling. A CO-worker of mine and girlfriend were cut by the peeling plastic. Both cuts were deeper than your average paper cut and was very painful. This was on the passenger door, then I was cut on the driver side weeks later. GMC would not replace as my mileage is out of warrant and they wanted to charge $340 to replace!! extremely costly and frustrating for a dangerous non-repair.

12 Structure problem of the 2007 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/28/2010

We own a 2007 GMC Yukon denali. My 8 year old son's thumb on his right had was trapped in the hinge on the rear passenger door, as he was exiting the vehicle. While he was exiting the front passenger seat, as my other children opened of the rear passenger door his thumb was nearly completely severed by the hinge. The hinge is completely exposed, there is no safety mechanism, cover, or preventive feature. The hinge combined with the weight of the door, moves the hinge opening from roughly and inch opening to a zero clearance area. The hinges cross over top of each other with the two edge planes of each part acting similar to a bolt cutter or tree limb cutter. One of the edge planes has a relief cut which acts as a trap as very little movement of the door eliminates the option of pulling back a finger or small hand. If you were to sit in the front passenger seat, open door and exit as one normally would, simply dropping your arm straight down puts your hand(fingers) at risk. The only reason his thumb was not severed is because the children exiting the car stopped opening the door and closed it so he could take his thumb out. Had the door opened all the way his thumb would have been lost. As it remains we spent several hours in an emergency room, he had to have 4 stitches and an xray. Because it was on the joint no bones where broken. A terrible accident that very easily could have been prevented.

13 Structure problem of the 2007 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/26/2010

15 Structure problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 03/06/2010

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6). When the vehicle is at a low speed near stopping the brake kicks back as if the abs becomes activated and the stopping distance is increased. This occurs on all surfaces wet or dry. The issue has not been corrected and the parts are available. The same vehicle (year/make/model) has a recall for the same issue but I have been told my vehicle is not included in the recall per the VIN number. The gm recall number is 05068 and your report number is 05v521000. [xxx]. The system will not allow me to enter this as my VIN.

Wiring to any lights could or would burn up the computer. Updated 02/24/09.

23 Structure problem of the 2005 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/19/2008

On my 2005 GMC Yukon denali xl, the driver upper door hinge weld connecting the hinge to the vehicle body is defective and has cracked and broken loose. I'm wondering when it might come completely apart causing a total failure in the door shutting properly. Already contacted gm and they don't believe this is a defect. I totally disagree. If using welds on the door hinges is such a great way to build vehicles, then why did they stop using welding and now use bolts?.

26 Structure problem of the 2006 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/14/2006

2006 Yukon makes a clunking noise when turning the wheel, vibration is also noticed when driving 65 mph. A month after the vehicle was purchased the consumer started to noticed noises coming from the front end. The vehicle was taken to service dealer who determined that the upper and lower control arms needed to be replaced. After repairs of the control arm the vehicle started to vibrate. The vehicle was returned and they replaced the right front tire which they claimed was defective from the factory. One week later the consumer noticed a clunking noise in the front end. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who advised that the right rear upper and lower control arm were bad from the factory. The parts were ordered and replaced. When the vehicle was at the dealer being serviced the technician didn't cover the seat while working and got oil on the seat and steering wheel. The dealer replaced the entire seat with a seat on their lot. The consumer never authorized them to do that. Now the seat is making a clunking noise. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who claimed that the seat is broken and that all the 2006 Yukon denali seat are broken. The sear was taken apart and longer bolts were used to secured the seat. The seat is still broken. The dealer also replaced the steering wheel which is now making noise. The dealer said that the steering box needed to be replaced but that the replacement is noisier than the original. The dash has begun to peel. The dealer indicated that all Yukon denali dashes are peeling. The dash was replaced with a new one. The engine sounds as is a lifter is off. The vehicle pulls to the left.

27 Structure problem of the 2007 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 04/13/2006

The 2007 GMC Yukon (& Chevrolet tahoe) have a significant safety issue / problem. The instrument panel gauges are very difficult to read in daytime (sunny) conditions. Most of the time during daytime/sunny conditions you can not just glance at the instruments to read them. You have to divert your attention for 2 or more seconds to read even the speedometer (which is the easiest to read). All instruments have black faces with white markings which are legible day and night. The daytime visual recognition problem is caused by two conditions. 1) red pointers that do not contrast sufficiently with the black face, and 2) dash cowling shading/glare problems. The top left (oil pressure) and top right (voltmeter) gauges are almost impossible to read. The bottom right (coolant temp) is very difficult to read. The bottom left (fuel) is difficult to very difficult to read. The two large center gauges (tachometer and speedometer) are difficult to read. The time / attention required to read these gauges presents a safety hazard because you are forced to take your eyes off the road for far to long (or to keep repeating looks to check your speed / fuel status. I recently purchased a 2007 GMC Yukon and made a road trip of 3000 miles. Two drivers had similar visual recognition problems during daylight hours. I gave up even trying to read the other gauges. If you wear sunglasses you have to lift them to try to read the gauges. There are some things you can do (have to do) to lessen the visual recognition problem. 1) turn on the lights (provides minimal dash illumination), 2) close the sunroof shade (reduces glare), and 3) place you hand above your eyes as a shield (reduces glare). I have talked to the gm dealer to see if they could increase illumination on the dash lighting. (that would still mean I would have to turn on the lights during the day. ) bottom line - they can't do anything - they can't re-engineer gm's product.

28 Structure problem of the 2005 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/10/2005

The contact stated when he was exiting the vehicle, with the engine off it began to roll down the driveway. He took the vehicle to the dealership, and they found the bolt that holds the shaft in the transmission was stripped. The bolt was replaced. Then, while exiting a parking lot, the vehicle shifted from drive to neutral on its own. The indicator still read drive, but would not go. He stated the steering column did register that the vehicle was in drive, and when driving over a bump, it shifted into neutral. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, they contacted the manufacturer, and they stated tissues normal. The dealership stated they adjusted cables, but the work order he received showed that nothing was done. The driver side mirror wasn't holding, it would fold. The navigation radio system was replaced. The headliner was replaced. Updated 01/23/06.

29 Structure problem of the 2005 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/22/2005

In this vehicle the console is wider and the seats are narrower. The console is in the consumer's arm area space when making a hard right turn and for any reason, the consumer would hit the console or the arm rest. Noticed this early on. Talked to GMC, they took the information and said that the engineers will contact consumer . The consumer stated no one has contacted.

34 Structure problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 05/19/2003

My new 2003 Yukon xl has an absolutely intolerable cab reverberation problem ! this defect causes the driver and passengers a thumping ear pain ! I literally cannot drive 1 block without a thumping sensation in my ears. This vehicle was left at the dealer for 4 days, only to be told that the service department could not fix the problem ! of course, I was not satisfied ! this vehicle was only two weeks old ! I was informed by the service department that I would have to live with this until the gm engineers could find a fix. I was also informed that this was not high on the list of problems to solve ! the dealership refused to help me at all. The sales department would not take the vehicle back. I called gm who has sent me to one department after another for the past two weeks. Still no resolution! upon notifying gm that I needed to seek a doctors care for the unbearable ear pain when driving this vehicle, I was sent to the department for complaint allegations. This department simply wanted to access their risks of loss ! still nothing resolved. I have asked gm to simply " do the right thing ". I don't think that this issue should come down to any type of law suit. However, it appears at this point, that a law suit may indeed be the only way to get the matter resolved. I propose to the NHTSA that this defect ( in all 2003 suburban and Yukon xl models ) should warrant an investigation as to possible recall. As you can tell, I am very upset at the poor quality of customer service I have received from brown and wood dealership in greeneville, nc and gm. It appears that neither party wishes to be responsible. Cyndi bowen .
