1 Hatchback/liftgate Hinge problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/10/2010

The right hinge of the rear lift glass on 2003 GMC Yukon failed causing a dangerous condition whereby the rear glass could blow out, or otherwise fall off the car. I am told the entire rear lift glass must be replaced.

3 Hatchback/liftgate Hinge problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/14/2008

The rear hinge on the lft glass came away from the glass, leaving the rear window unsafe. Fortunately I noticed and had it repaired (replaced) before an accident occurred.

4 Hatchback/liftgate Hinge problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 01/01/2007

In sept. Of 2007, I noticed a squeaking noise each time I opened the back hatch. When I investigated the source, I opened the back hatch window and the hinges that held the glass to the body of the car were separating causing the window to fall away on a tilt. I can no longer open the window for fear it will completely come away from the vehicle. It is a huge safety concern and I can no longer open the back hatch at all any longer. The vehicle has never been hit or damaged in any way and the back window has rarely been used in the 3 years I have owned it. I have found websites with people complaining of the same safety issues with the hinges.

5 Hatchback/liftgate Hinge problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/11/2006

The left rear lift glass hinge weld failed resulting in the need to replace the entire unit. The claim was denied by the extended warranty program because the defect involves a hinge. The hinge did not fail the weld to the hinge failed. This should be covered or be a recall item due under structural failure.

6 Hatchback/liftgate Hinge problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/01/2006

The hinge holding the rear window to the liftgate is pulling away from the glass. I am afraid that the window is going to fall off of the vehicle. Also, the window has shifted from its intended position so that whenever I open the liftgate, the top of the window catches on the top of the body.

7 Hatchback/liftgate Hinge problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/18/2006

I opened back rear lift glass and it made a very strange noise. I closed it then noticed it was not sitting straight so I opened it again to see what the problem was. When I tried to close it again it would not lock and then one hinge holding the glass on just broke and then the glass was only held on by one hinge and was completely crooked. I contacted GMC dealer and they said $1,100. 00 repair because they had to repair the whole glass plus the hinges. I found out that a couple other people in my small area had the same problem and then I found somewhere on this website there had been 3 more complaints about it. When I spoke with GMC they said it wasn't anything I did and it wasn't due from wear and tear that it just broke. Apparently the part that broke on mine was the welding came off. I think if an investigation is started that GMC will find out there are a lot more people in this country who have had the same problem.

8 Hatchback/liftgate Hinge problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/17/2006

The window hinge on the rear window of my 2003 GMC Yukon became disconnected from the window. This has been used very rarely, and the vehicle is always garaged. It seems like a manufacturer defect, or design flaw. . . Not something that failed because of normal wear and tear. Without repair, this could lead to window separation and harm to other vehicles following me on the highway.

9 Hatchback/liftgate Hinge problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/28/2005

The rear liftgate hinges, that are glued to the rear liftgate glass, has come free from the glass. Neither the glass liftgate or hinges are damaged, the attaching compound (I. E. Glue?) has failed. The car is still under a factory extended warranty, but GMC cannot repair the defect. They must replace undamaged items in order to replace the failed adhesive.

10 Hatchback/liftgate Hinge problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/20/2003

Identical complaint as filed on #10032993. Rear tailgate glass has never been opened on our vehicle always opened entire tail gate when opening. The passenger side hinge mounted to fiber material adhered to glass has completly broken free of glass mounting bracket.
