1 Suspension problem of the 2011 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/18/2025

The contact owns a 2011 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that while attempting to refuel the vehicle at the gas station, fuel was leaking out of the fuel tank. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where the vehicle was lifted. The mechanic then informed the contact that the fuel pump was rusted and that the frame were severely rusted. The contact was informed that the frame was fractured and had holes and was being held up by the body. Additionally, the mechanic informed the contact that the alignment had failed due to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The used car dealer where the vehicle was purchased was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 271,000.

2 Suspension problem of the 2022 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/29/2025

I had a sudden catastrophic engine failure 3/13/25. I previously filled out an NHTSA report, but I would like to add to my case. My engine was towed to the dealership and replaced. 4/25/25 the check engine light started coming on intermittently again. The service suspension notification, replace the battery in your key fob notification (which was replaced in February), and the check engine light have been coming on intermittently since then. All of these things occurred prior to engine failure the first time. The dealership would not look at our vehicle again until our VIN was called for the recall. 6/22/25 the suspension sensor was replaced and the recall “test” was done. 6/27/25 the service suspension light was back flashing and gm was unable to find any codes. 6/29/25 the check engine light was flashing again. I believe my vehicle is going to have another engine failure. Gm did a multi-point “inspection” and says it is safe to drive.

3 Suspension problem of the 2022 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/28/2025

On 5/22/2025, I filed a complaint with NHTSA, complaint number 11662650. In the complaint, I reported issues regarding safety concerns that began around October 2023 and were shortly after reported to GMC. Some of the reported issues were concerns with oil consumption due to warning lights coming on; parking warning sensors intermittently coming on; and what appears to be suspension issues as there continues to be a knocking, cracking, and snapping noise coming from the front suspension when making a left or right turn, along with a bumping when in motion, among other issues such as infotertainment that continues to be an issue. Recently, we took our SUV to a GMC authorized dealer since it was still under warranty and these issues continued to persist and it is getting worse. The vehicle was left around 5/28/25 and picked up on 6/17/25. However, less than a couple of weeks after, we started experiencing the same issues with the suspension as the knocking, cracking, snapping, and bumping is getting more obvious and worse, and it appears is affecting the steering and alignment of the SUV. Please update this information as there is a major concern with safety of the vehicle. Attached are some of the service records related to these issues. Should you need any additional information, please advise. Thank you.

4 Suspension problem of the 2022 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 05/21/2025

My wife and I purchased a new 2022 Yukon around July 4, 2022. The vehicle came with a 36k or 3 years warranty. Around October 2023, we experienced several safety concern issues with the SUV and around 11/01/23, we reported these issues to a GMC dealer. Around 11/01/23, we took our SUV for service at an approved GMC dealer and reported issues with the steering suspension such as a knocking, snapping, and cracking sound when making a turn, and a bumping when making a u-turn or left turn into a parking spot. We also reported issues with the parking and key sensors. We were informed the issue was fixed and that some suspension bolts were loosed and needed to be torqued. On 1/29/24, we took the SUV back for some of these same reasons after other dealers declined to take our SUV under warranty. Once more, the issue was temporarily fixed. We have now scheduled another appointment for these same reasons of knocking, cracking, and bumping when coming from the front suspension and when making a turn or u-turn. In addition, we are now experiencing oil warning lights for a second time as oil comsumption. We believe these are serious safety issues, especially with any potential failure of the suspension under rain, fog conditions, and the lack of resolution and wonder if other similar issues have been reported or experienced by similar drivers of these vehicles. Attached find copies of the work orders. Should you need any additional information, please advise. Thank you.

8 Suspension problem of the 2021 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 02/05/2025

Subject: formal complaint – engine failure in 2021 GMC Yukon denali xl VIN: 1gksjkl2mr242441 defect number (gm): 11662402 gm case numbers: 9-12578008672 / 53598259 / 54106961 dear NHTSA office of defects investigation, I am writing to formally report a critical mechanical failure in my 2021 GMC Yukon denali xl, which resulted in a complete engine failure, rendering the vehicle inoperable and exposing my family to significant safety and financial risks. Despite following the recommended maintenance schedule and driving under normal conditions, the engine failed prematurely. The vehicle has been out of service for over four months, and I have yet to receive a definitive resolution or timeline from general motors. I have incurred over $13,000 in out-of-pocket costs, including towing, repair estimates, rental vehicles, and continued loan payments on a non-functional vehicle. Key details: vehicle: 2021 GMC Yukon denali xl VIN: 1gksjkl2mr242441 failure type: total engine failure requiring full rebuild or replacement time out of service: 4+ months and ongoing financial impact: $13,335. 58 in documented costs gm defect number: 11662402 (noted internally by gm) dealer(s) involved: midas auto service, beaman GMC (nashville, TN) I have made repeated efforts to escalate this through gm’s case advisors and executive team, but have received no meaningful resolution or written acknowledgment of my request for either reimbursement or a good faith vehicle buyback. Given the safety implications of such a catastrophic failure in a relatively new vehicle, I believe this may represent a broader manufacturing defect or quality control issue and warrants NHTSA investigation. I respectfully request that NHTSA: log this complaint into your safety database investigate whether similar failures have occurred in other 2021 Yukon denali xl vehicles contact gm for further information regarding this defect and associated safety risk thank you for your attention to this matter.

9 Suspension problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/06/2024

Transmission failed on the freeway with no signs signaling issue before hand at 109,000 miles. Also lane departure does not work often. And suspension gave out at 60,000 miles.

10 Suspension problem of the 2021 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/01/2024

GMC currently has bulletin out on the issue and how to fix it. Unfortunately this doesn't not fix it and I am going to have to replace my whole rear differential at only 60,500 miles. GMC is well aware of the situation and has not done a recall. The fix the bulletin proposes would not work and there was over and inch of metal shaving found. This is a huge issue in the specific vehicle and the part to replace the rear differential isn't even available (national backorder with no eta) leaving customers without a vehicle or solution for their faulty issues. GMC should be liable for their negligence and putting customers in potential harm if the vehicle is continued to be driven with a failing rear differential. The vehicle did not prompt any warning messages but the grinding sound was very loud. Bulletin no. : 21-na-028 date: January, 2023.

11 Suspension problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/13/2024

Noting that prior to this we only had one issue with transmission and we did the flush and it did fine for several thousand of miles. Fast forward to a few days ago. As I was driving down the highway I came to a stop at the red light. Once it was green and I pressed on the accelerator with my foot per usual. And it did not move it pushed the gas peddle and nothing at all happened. I was stuck in the highway could not move until I’m assuming the transmission finally shifted jarring my entire car and it allowed me to get to a safe place at 20 miles an hour max. Keep in mind I was in the middle of the highway not knowing what was happening. With my precious babies in the car. Thanking god we were not injured. This problem is so common and notorious among GMC Yukons 2017 year models. It’s saddening that now I have a car note on a car that will not go. Transmissions are back ordered who knows when I can have my car back this economy is horrible trying to stay afloat. And now we have a vehicle that won’t drive and no time forks of when it can drive. This needs to be addressed ASAP. Other people are dealing with the same things and GMC need to make this safety concern a thing of the past. Make a recall.

12 Suspension problem of the 2018 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/03/2024

We just purchased this vehicle from winegardner GMC in prince frederick, MD. On [xxx} on our drive home from the dealership, we kept hearing a terrible screeching/ clucking noise coming from the rear when we were braking or applying any pressure to the brake pedal. We instantly contacted the dealership and they had us bring the vehicle back the next morning for them to look at and to make the repairs but unfortunate for us. They do not have the parts in stock, so we have to take it back Tuesday, October 8 , 2024 at 8am and leave it for the day. Hoping it is repaired correctly with the new parts “both rear calipers” as I left the dealership, I was approximately 10 miles away and out of no where my dash displayed “service, trailer, brakes”, constantly along with a loud dinging noise for the rest of the drive home. I contacted the dealership and spoke with the service manager and informed him of the situation. He told me it has been an ongoing issue with gm for years and it’s electrical and because we purchased a used vehicle. It’s not covered to be repaired. We would have to pay out-of-pocket for it to be fixed. This is very upsetting because we just spent $40,000 on a used low mileage Yukon denali for our family to travel in, but it’s unsafe, because it affects the traction control, and abs brake system. I would also like to note that I did not have a trailer hooked to the vehicle, so I do not understand how that service indicator would appear unless it was cleared by the dealership during maryland state inspection. We have asked them several times for a copy of the maryland state inspection they performed, and we are getting the runaround. As the purchaser of a vehicle, it is all right to have that document, showing what past and what failed maryland inspection before being resold to us. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

13 Suspension problem of the 2016 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/11/2024

I have a service suspension light that continues to pop up on dashboard the most important issue that needs to be addressed is the brake lights. I have previously had the passenger side brake light stop working. In order to repair this you have to order a whole new taillight. My vehicle was approximatly 6 years old when this started happening. First incident (2022 with approximately 65000 miles) yesterday, I was pulled over by a policeman and both of my brake lights are not working. We found a way to sauder (I know this is incorrect spelling) the broken metal piece back together in the taillight; however, this is not the correct way to fix the underlying problem and clearly it is only a temporary fix because the passenger side broke again in a new spot.

14 Suspension problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 05/30/2024

1. )rear brakes are not functioning properly. They still have pads but when you press down to pump the brake it fails. I was told by a mechanic that they other GMC vehicles have had recalls on this, but mine is not showing one. 2. )the suspension on this vehicle has never worked properly. It rides extremely rough. It has some special suspension in it from a shock perspective, but it feels as if it often fails. 3. ) I had to replace the torque converter in this vehicle last year, and the fluid that runs through it. Apparently this is a known issue with no recall. 4. ) the transmission slips when the vehicle shifts gears. It shifts hard. Also a known issue with no recall.

15 Suspension problem of the 2018 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 04/18/2024

2018 Yukon denali engine failed June 2024 due to the lifter being bent. The dealership richey Cadillac in daytona beach estimated the repairs at $18,862 and were going to have my vehicle for months. I took it to my mechanic who rebuilt the engine for $7181 in 30 days. My safety was placed at risk because while driving I had to pull over since I had no control with the engine failure. There were no messages prior to the failure.

16 Suspension problem of the 2015 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 01/04/2024

Upper arm control screw loosened up. Drilled hole on axle.

17 Suspension problem of the 2014 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 12/23/2023

Rear lower control mounts completely rusted out allowing the rear to move back and the driveshaft to come out of the transmission. Fortunately, this happened 1 block from home at a stop sign, if it occurred on a highway, it would have caused a major accident and likely injuries. Complete frame is rusted to the point of failure, heard from others that this has happened to other makes of gm products, tahoe, chevy pickup trucks. They likely all share the same frame.

18 Suspension problem of the 2018 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

I own a 2018 GMC denali, Yukon xl SUV, with 67k miles. While towing our 24’ airstream (weight 4400 lbs) the vehicle excessively bounced in the air several times on a flat pull on I-80 in northern CA. I took it to three mechanics who told me that the front magnetic and rear air shocks had all failed and were leaking oil. The best price that we could secure for replacement is $2500. Each mechanic commented about the frequency of this type of failure with GMC and stated that this should be a recall because of the risk of trailer detachment/failure. I’ve owned dozens of vehicles in my lifetime (age 57 now) and have never replaced a set of shocks before.

19 Suspension problem of the 2021 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

Out of no where the right side makes a clicking noise when I turn.

20 Suspension problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/29/2023

The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon denali. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle started bouncing. The contact stated that the transmission also failed to shift properly. The service engine and suspension warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that a bearing had detached, and the transmission had failed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 89,400.

21 Suspension problem of the 2022 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 05/02/2023

My 2022 GMC Yukon denali has been at dealership multiple time for defective air ride suspension. The message says "service leveling system" once that show's it's a matter of time the vehicle will slump down. The passenger side air bag keeps busting creating a safety hazard for my family and others on the highway. When problem occurs the vehicle slumps down on front suspension and will bounce out of control when driving on highways and over bridges. It has now been in shop 4 times for the same problem. Dealership has been extremely helpful on trying to fix the problem, but there's definitely something serious going on and gm needs to look into making this right before someone get's hurt driving this vehicle.

22 Suspension problem of the 2022 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 04/23/2023

We repeatedly received an error saying “vehicle too high, drive with caution”, at which point, the suspension adjustment controls would not work and I could not lower the vehicle. The service department has had our vehicle for over 2 months now and I am unsure if they were able to duplicate this particular issue, but we did photograph the warning. We have had multiple other electronic issues with this vehicle and feel we were sold an unsafe vehicle.

23 Suspension problem of the 2020 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 02/05/2023

The front struts are going out on these vehicles. I know of another one that had the same issue and only had 38,000 miles on there denali. This issue makes the front of the vehicle very stiff. Which when we were on the interstate and every time we hit a bump or a bridge crossing it would almost take the steering wheel right out of your hands. I live in minnesota, and with the weather we have here, it was a very scary drive home with my family. I took it to my certified repair shop and they told me that I’m the 3rd one that they have seen with this problem. Thank you for your time.

24 Suspension problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 12/05/2022

The paint on the hood is peeling/flaking and is degraded. Right air shock is leaking causing the vehicle to continually pump up. I have the tow package, and with the air shock leaking, it does me no good. My air conditioner has not been cooling for a while. I started noticing it when it was hot in December, 2022. Would have thought it was a simple leak. The port valves have been changed. Air is still not blowing cold. My vehicle uses the r1234yf which is very expensive per can. After spending $72,000 on a vehicle, you would think that it would not be failing so soon. I understand 1) there is a class action lawsuit regarding the peeling/flaking of the paint; 2) that the ac condenser has a recall and also, the "leaky" air shock; however, my VIN is not included in any of these recalls. Upon the pleading and begging for recall information on brake lights and the brake system, those after sometime, were actually fixed by the dealer. I feel like I purchased a lemon. This was supposed to be my forever vehicle. To make matters worse, my vehicle display freezes when you are driving down the road, which includes while you have navigation on, I guess I will just get lost. I have had warnings about parking/collision alert just not working and will not let you push the button to turn it back on. I am not understanding why all of what is happening. I work everyday and have to take off work to take it to the dealership. I have never been so disappointed in a gm product, my vehicle is a piece of crap. I have an appointment at the dealership on April 19, 2023, we will see where this will take me.

25 Suspension problem of the 2007 GMC Yukon

The contact stated that the vehicle would wobble and shut off inadvertently while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the stabilizers and shocks were replaced. The independent mechanic then took the vehicle to an electrical failure specialist where it was diagnosed that the front end of the vehicle was experiencing electrical failures. Additionally, the contact stated that a warning message stating that the air bags were not working was displayed. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

30 Suspension problem of the 2022 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 03/21/2022

Vehicle has been in for repair on (4) separate occasions for the same issue. Without warning, several error messages will pop up indicating problems with power steering, suspension, air bags, etc. In all there are 7 or 8 different error messages that all appear at once, but as soon as they do appear the power steering stops working. This has happened both from a cold start and while driving. In total the vehicle has lost power steering on 12-15 separate occasions. The service department at the dealership has had a hard time diagnosing the problem, but recently said that a faulty serial gateway module was to blame. After waiting 1. 5 months for a replacement part, I was told that the repair had been made and the vehicle was ready for pick up. Within 5 minutes of leaving the dealership the power steering failed again while driving, forcing me off to the side of a busy road. The same 7-8 error messages appeared on the screen.

31 Suspension problem of the 2021 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 03/10/2022

My blind spot warning light and signal doesnt work all the time. For example, if a pass a car, or a car passes me at a speed of more than 5 miles per hour, there is no notification from the blind spot warning light in the mirror, or an audalble signale either. I have taken the car to the GMC dealership 3 times and I was told that is normal, and nothing is wrong. I own other GMC models and I have never experianced this intermitant issue.

34 Suspension problem of the 2017 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/02/2021

I purchased a 2017 GMC Yukon denali brand new off the showroom floor. I have maintained the services thru GMC dealership. I had to replace the struts and rear and front shocks due to hydraulic system leaking and locking up my brakes and causing extra pressure on my braking system to stop my vehicle. This cost me over $5000 to replace out of my pocket and I saw there was a previous recall in 2019 for similar problem but I was told my issues were not covered under the recall. I have also had to replace both taillights within 2years of purchasing my brand new vehicle and now they are out again. This will be my second time having to replace the led tail lights that cost over $375 light which were stated as never go out of lifetime guarantee. You cannot just replace the bulb you have to replace the whole tail light which takes weeks to come in and then additional labor costs. The previous.

35 Suspension problem of the 2019 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/14/2021

Front strut assemblies (both left and right side) were found to be leaking during annual state safety inspection. Before the inspection determined the cause, the handling of the vehicle had noticeable deteriorated were the vehicle was bouncing excessively while driving and compromising the vehicle's handling and steering. Contacted two dealers, who stated this is a common problem on 2019 and newer Yukons. The gm parts warehouse had over 1900 replacement struts in stock! per the dealer, the struct was a new design in 2019 and is electronically controlled. No warning lamps or messages were displayed. The original structs were stamped mfg in mexico, the gm replacements are stamped manufactured in poland.
