Transmission had been replaced at 60,000 miles. Currently, at 103,000 miles transmission needs to be replaced again.
Car lunges forward at stops while brake is depressed. Transmission is delayed when shifting from park to r or d, slipping when accelerator is pressed and finally shifting with a jerk. Slips when accelerating from a stop, engaging with a hard jerk and slips again when shifting from first to second gear. On hard acceleration, transmission downshifts hard and engine revs, car feels out of control. Notified dealer of problems at 65,000 miles and was advised transmission is bad and needs replacing at a cost of $5,000. Honda does not allow dealer to rebuild. Dealer is required to return entire assembly to Honda. Honda customer service was contacted. I am still waiting for a reply. Honda's reputation was built on reliability. They should stand behind their product.

After exiting my 1998 Honda Accord after parking it on my flat driveway, my car then rolled down my backyard hill and 100ft into the woods on my property. The key had come out normally when I exited the vehicle, however the car was in the "drive " position. No one was injured but the car had $6500 damage. I am complaining because I thought a safety feature of most ignitions is that the keys do not come out unless the car is in park. 2 months after this event Honda has come out with a statement regarding '98 Accords having a problem with the key coming out when the car was not in "park. ".
The car makes a bumping noise when backing up, it also slams into first gear when the car is cold.
Automatic transmission in '1998 Accord lx(2. 3l) does not up/downshift properly when coldonce engine/trans get up to full operating temp all feels ok. No useful response from Honda dealer to on going problem (@ last year+).

Automatic transmission rebuilt @ 55000 miles on my 1998 Accord ex buy aamco transmission. I have a 2001 odessey and received recall for the same problem I had with my 1998 Accord.
Back last year in may I had to replace my v-6 3. 0 automatic transmition at 74,000 miles! I can understand if the transmition goes out at 125,000 miles or more but 74,000 doesnt sound right to me. They said when I had the transmition replaced that the gears in the transmition compleatly wore away! this repair costed me $2,000 and at the time I didn't have that kind of money. The car had regular check ups and was working fine for years. I would like you to check more Accords if they have transmition problems like I have had, I have talked to many people online who also have this problem and I have one friend who also had this problem, but for him he just had to pay for the parts because he could fix it him self. Please look into this problem and if there is componsation please help me because that is alot of money that I do not make as a student!.
The main reason to buy a Honda is because of its reliability, and if these cars cant even reach a 100,000 miles, whats the use of doing all the services on time? all the fluids and everything was taken care of on time and still the transmission went out. Whats the whole concept? one thousand of its qualified technicians have enginered a machine that cant even last 100,000 miles. Ive heard a lot of people who have experienced its transmission problem of their coupe. I think its time to have a recall.
I own a 1998 Honda Accord with 44,000 miles. I purchased the car new in 1998. I am now having serious transmission problems with the car - lurching and bumping. When I presented the problem to Honda, they said that I must pay for a new transmission because the car is out of warranty. Can Honda get away with this? I can't believe this is the Honda car company. I purchased the car because of Honda's track-record of reliability.
Consumer states that while driving the vehicle and no warning the vehicle would accelerate dealer notified.
Ignition key sometimes won't come out of ignition when transmission is in park. (nar) dealer was notified.
Faulty transmission - have serviced 4 times in 1 1/2 years. Honda is aware of the problem with the transmission and is only offering to cover 1/2 of parts to replace transmission on 1998 Honda Accord. It shifts incorrectly and revs very high, then slams into next gear. Problems started around 74k miles after I owned for 7 months. Said they won't cover whole replacement because I didn't have regular service done at Honda dealerships. I was able to prove I had service done at reputable dealers but not Honda. It is estimated the replacement transmission will cost me around $1500. 00. Honda of America should pay for the whole thing in my mind. There are plenty of complaints regarding these transmissions. When is someone going to do something about it?.
When car is turned off and parking brake is engaged. Consumers key will not release from the ignition. The consumers transmission had to be replaced in which he incurred the labor charge of $572. 40. The consumer stated the problem with the ignition happened after the vehicle was returned to him. The consumer has a Honda cr-v that had a transmission problem as well.

I purchase a 1998 Honda Accord with the intentions of keeping it for a lifetime at 30,000 unfortunately at 50,000 the transmission began to jerk when you began to brake. It seems the car didnt know what gear it was in. After hundreds of dollars attempting to find the problem Honda corp. Assured me they have never seen such a problem in any of their cars and had not had any complaints on any of their 1998 Accords. They then charged me 1,500 dollar for the repair not counting the hundreds of dollars I paid them to simply find the problem. Now just 6 months later my transmission feels as if it's slipping when I park on a hill. Again they don't want to admitt to any knowledge of any past problems. Now I'm sure they are aware of past problems because it was explained to me the transmission I received 6 months ago was a repaired transmission from another Accord. What can I do to help myself????? anyone please help!.

Subject: 1. Infrequent stalling when coming to a slow stop, and starts up again and I continue driving. 2. Twice, it has stalled when making a slow left turn. However, starts up again when I turn the key and I continue driving.
The car hesitates upon acceleration primarily as it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. This hesitation can and does occasionally cause the vehicle to lose speed in traffic.
I called american Honda and was asked where I got the info from. And I told them the internet and was then asked if it was a Honda site to which I said no. I was then told there was no such recall. No safety defect mentioned.
