Failure Date: 06/20/2010

Rear brakes on my 2008 Honda Accord full deterioration at 26k - 29k miles. Brakes making scraping & high pitched grinding noises. Did research online and found class action lawsuit against american Honda for faulty warning brakes on 2008 - 2010 Honda Accords & Acura tsx models. . Read more...

37 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2010

Premature failure of rear brake pads.

38 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2010

Rear brake pad wear which ruined the rotors at 21,000. I replaced and repaired the brakes only to have the same problem recur at 42,000 miles. I have not had to replace the front pads yet. This is clearly a safety issue although Honda doesn't seem to agree nor have they fixed the quality of the pads. They continue to put the same defective pads on the cars. I cannot believe a recall has not been required. Toyota had to recall their cars when they accelerated when they shouldn't. Honda should recall their cars for not stopping when they should. Defective brakes should always be considered a safety issue.

39 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2010

Honda Accord 2008 has a brake problem (rear) pads simply disintegrate at 28,000 miles. Call to manufacturer Honda on the telephone the representative confirmed a class action law suit but did not offer any solution like Honda to fix the problem. No action was deemed necessary as it was not safety related. From when did not able to stop your car become a non safety related problem. My other car is a Toyota and they did all in their power rectify the defects and pay a fine. Nhtsa definitely needs to bring Honda down to reality and check on the numerous problems related to brakes. Brakes are definitely safety related and any outside chance that they fail should be a major safety violation. Please enforce the rules on Honda and Acura. They have a very secretive and defensive attitude. If they had paid for the brake service I wouldn't be writing to you.

40 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2010

Premature rear brake pad wear, at under 23,000 we had to replace the rear brake pads because we were told they we worn out and not covered by warranty, after checking I found out this is an issue with the 2008 Accords and there is suppose to be a fix for this with new v springs asked the dealer about this and they said they could not do this repair or change.

41 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2010

I drive a 2008 Honda Accord ex-l v6. I have had to have the rear brake pads and rotors replaced at 23,364 miles. The rear brakes wore extremely premature for any car I have owned. Online forums and complaint websites show the same occurrences for the same make/model/year. Upon calling Honda to complain, they do not wish to recall the problem, nor are they willing to refund me the $221. 30 that I had to pay to make my car safe to drive. Honda said on the phone that they were aware of the problem and were yet to make a recall/reimbursement for the fault. I believe that Honda had a reputation that exceeded many manufactures and thus I purchased a Honda. This problem is unacceptable and unfortunate. Luckily I was able to have the problem fixed and was capable of paying for it. I would hate to see this be a problem that is unresolved and would be capable of causing someone else physical harm/death in brakes not working properly. I have never owned a car that has needed this sort of repair and have driven 4 other vehicles with at least 70,000+ miles on them.

42 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2010

Premature rear brake pad wear-out on 2008 Honda Accord. Rear brakes replaced at 25,000 miles. Uneven wear between inner and outer rear brake pads.

43 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2010

I bought my used 2008 Honda Accord ex in March 2010 when the mileage was 18000. In 2 months, at 23000, I started to hear screeching sounds coming out of the rear tires when I pressed the brakes. Slowly, this problem started to worsen and the noise started to become more louder and it was sounding as metal with metal. This happened both when car was traveling at 40-50 mph and also when braking. This occurs all the time during the day. Initially it starts off as no noise but after 10 minutes at low speeds the noise starts to crackle and its very embarrassing especially when braking at the lights and at stop and go traffic. I took this to the mechanic and he said that the rear brakes have worn out and needs to be replaced. He changed the rear brake pads, brakes, motor and also flushed out the brake fluid. In total this cost me $700 including the labor. When I bought my Honda, I looked at the reliability of the car and with such low mileage I did not expect it to give me any issues. Alas within just 3 months I have had to spend a fortune on the car.

44 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2010

I own a 08 Honda Accord. When I put in reverse a horrible screeching noise started. It would continue when I would brake also. I took it to a local shop to look at it. I only have 30k miles so figured something minor. They said it was the rear brake pads! front ones were never replaced and in good condition. 200. 00 for new brake pads. Called the local Honda dealer they said 250. I have done nothing further.

45 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2010

My 2008 Honda Accord exl has 60,000 miles on it and I have just had to replace the rear brakes for the second time. Once at 35,000 once at 60,000. I have been told by three different Honda managers that Honda knows about this problem and refuses to do anything about it. The problem is that the design of the spring that is supposed to separate the pads after braking does not push the pads far enough to clear the rotors. This not only wears the pads much too quickly but also makes the engine work harder and hinders the gas mileage.

46 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2010

My 2008 Honda Accord sedan with 15,000 miles (4 cyl, 5 sp manual, VIN# [xxx]) was at the service at the boch Honda for oil change. During the service it was discovered that rear pads and rotors were worn out completely. 0% of life left on both sides. Honda of America acknowledges that there is a problem and will pay only first $150 of the repair. Repair cost is $463. However, Honda is paying 100% of the repair if car has less than 12,000 miles. Please investigate and advise. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

47 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2010

I am an owner of a 2008 Honda Accord ex v6 with 26k miles. The rear brake pads on this vehicle wear prematurely. I contacted both the dealer and american Honda corporation both of which told me that this was normal wear and tear and that in order to fix the brakes I would be responsible for the replacement cost. The cost itself is not my concern even though I did pay additional out of pocket expense to have the "platinum" warranty program. My concern is that this is a safety issue and being the mother of 2 young small children it is not acceptable that Honda is not standing behind the safety of their vehicles. Properly functioning brakes is not a amenity as they are treating it. The internet is plethered with individuals who are in the same position as I. These vehicles should be recalled and the proper brake pads should be applied.

48 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2010

Initial rear brake squealing after over night setting or use to parking lots, squeal would occur in reverse direction braking, as if brake was dragging. As time progressed a metal to metal sound was noted as if some metal part had come loose and would drag or rub in slight directional pressure changes. Applying brakes would temporarily silence , but would return when brakes were released. A slight pulling sensation was noted to either right or left along with a vibration when applying brakes. Rear brake rotors were resurfaced and pads replaced at a cost of $214. 00 parts and labor. Additionally, front brake rotors were resurfaced and pads replaced at a cost of $133. 00 parts and labor.

49 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2010

The rear brakes on my 2008 Honda Accord are wearing out far faster than seems reasonable. Honda's solution to this problem is to simply say it's normal brake wear on the vehicle and then require that the rotors be turned and the brake pads be replaced, after charging an absurd diagnostic fee.

50 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2010

Vehicle mileage was 27,637. Dated: 05/25/2009. The rear brakes where squeaking when the brake pedal depressed. I took the dealer. Dealer said the rear brake pads were worn down to 3 millimeters. Dealer resurface rotor and replaced brake pads. The brake repaired cost $194. 39. Now the vehicle mileage 47,955. Date: 04/08/2010. The brake has same problem like before. Dealer said brakes need to repair again and cost $194. 39.

51 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2010

Brake pads wore out prematurely for a second time after a year of being replaced. There's no reason for this when I'm driving 80% of the time highway with little braking. Reparation cost $200 and it is not cover under warranty.

52 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. The contact noticed that there was premature brake wear in the rear of the vehicle. The rotors and brake pads were replaced at 19,600 and less than a year later, the rear brakes need to be replaced again. The dealer was contacted but provided no further assistance. The manufacturer informed the contact about a class action settlement that would enable him to receive a refund and the contact mailed in the necessary forms and was awaiting a response. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 19,600.

53 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2010

The rear brakes of my 2008 Honda Accord are squealing badly at all times when driving. The car has 34,000 miles on it. The rear pads are almost completely gone. The car has had serious vibration issues with the brakes ever since new. When slowing down from highway speeds the car vibrates badly. One time it almost resulted in the loss of control of the vehicle because the vibration was so bad. I have seen hundreds of complaints about the rear brakes on the 08 Accord. The common thread appears to be that Honda is not admitting to a problem and is blaming the drivers mis use of the brakes as the cause of the wear. Not sure how so many people can be braking incorrectly? I have owned many cars and have never had pads wear out so quickly. Honda has a defect here no doubt about it. Are they waiting to become another Toyota before they admit to using bad parts and/or a bad design of the rear brakes and/or maybe bad programming of the braking system? it appears that repairs have been done for free for many people and at cost for many others. Whether the repairs are done for free/under warranty, appears to depend on the person and their success with negotiating with their dealership. Honda needs to own up to the safety problem on their most popular car and devise a fix. Apparently they are not going to do it without a good swift kick in the pants by a law firm in the form of a class action suit or the government stepping in.

54 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2010

My 2008 Honda Accord is having break problems. The back break pads have worn to 0 percent with only 24,000 miles of highway driving in 13 months. The Accord does not break evenly as indicated by the front pads being at 85%. Honda needs to fix this probelm.

55 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2010

Premature wear of rear brake pads resulting in replacement with 26,000 miles.

56 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2010

Have always held Honda in highest regards when it comes to service and manufacturing, but this within itslef is a travesty!!!!! how many people will have to lose their lives or be injured in a near fatal accident before this issue is addressed? purchased 2008 Honda less than 1 year ago, premature rear brake pad wear, which is definitely a safety issue, heard suttle noises that indicated a defect in 2008 Honda Accord braking system @ less than 20,000 miles, with no indication that rear brakes needed servicing: @26,000 miles rear brake pads worn down metal to metal, two trips to the Honda dealer before actually acknowledging repair needed and replacing pads.

57 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2010

I have complained to Honda numerous times about the brakes on my 2008 Honda Accord. The brakes were replaced within the 1st year of the purchase of this new vehicle. Months later, they turned the rotors after my constant complaints. The brakes have continued to cause problems (squeeking, etc). I had this replaced today by a brake company. The inside of the pads were extremely worn, and the car only has 28,000 miles. Another Honda owner made me aware that they were replacing the rear brakes on 08 Honda Accords, so I called them and they are refusing to reimburse me as the brakes installed are not Honda brakes. Honda is not considering this a recall; however, they are fully aware of the rear brake problem (to my recent discovery). If these pads are wearing quicker than planned, they have the propensity to cause someone to not be able to stop. They failed to notify customers of this problem. If someone does not complain to them about their brakes, they have no way of knowing about the replacement.

58 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2010

2008 Honda Accord with 20k miles needs rear brake pads, due to defective brake pads. Honda of America does not see this as a safety issue and will not recall or replace pads as warranty; they just want their $120. There are hundreds of similar cases on the internet. Don't you think faulty brake pads are surely a safety issue? I have been in the automotive service industry for over 20 years and am a ase master tech. This is just ridiculous and something needs to be done about it as soon as possible.

59 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2010

Honda Accord 2008 - rear brake failure after only 15,000 miles. Other cars I had lasted 40 to 70,000 miles. It can lead to brake failure as users aren't expecting brake pads to wear out so soon. If not a recall, at least a warning from Honda to all buyers is warranted, in my opinion, so they can keep an eye or replace with longer lasting pads pronto. Thanks.

60 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2010

I had to change the rear brake rotors on my 2008 Honda Accord ex- v6, while my front rotors and pads are perfectly ok and needed no repair or replacement at all. According to my experience with previous vehicles, I never had to get any work done on rear brakes even up to a mileage of 180,000. On this car I had to change not just the pads but the rotors as well just at 40,000 miles.

61 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2010

I own a 2008 Honda Accord with 16,000 miles. Recently I took the car into the dealer for routine maintenance and was told that my rear brakes were gone and needed to be replaced. The dealer said that they were aware of no problems with rear brakes on the Accord. I went on line and found hundreds of other having the same problem, some as early as 6000 miles. Honda offered to pick up half the cost, unit I told them that I was aware of a fix in the 2010 model. The dealer then acknowledged problems with early brake replacement on the Accord. Honda then replaced them with the new pads that have springs added to stop the dragging of the pads on the disc. This is costing many people expenses that they should not be exposed to.

62 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. While parked, the contact noticed an excessive amount of brake dust located on the rear wheels. The contact also stated while braking at any speed that it felt as though the rear brakes were pulling on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told the brakes exhibited normal wear and tear. The rear brake pads were replaced. Approximately one year later, the failure occurred again. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed and was not repaired. The failure mileage was 28,000 and the current mileage is 50,000. Updated 03/24/lj updated 05/02/11.

63 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

My wife and I are age 55+ and are responsible drivers. We own a 2008 Honda Accord with approximately 22,000 miles. At about 18,000 miles, and within the 3 year warrantee period, we contacted Honda regarding a pulsation experienced when the brakes were depressed. We were told the problem is related to warping of the brake rotors. Honda indicated that this was not covered under the warrantee. We have just discovered that Honda has been subject to a class action lawsuit regarding the brakes on our vehicle. The problem we have experienced appears to be directly related to the issue in this lawsuit. We are requesting reimbursement for replacement of brake rotors and pads. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

64 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2010

The rear brake pads on my 2008 Honda Accord are wearing too quickly. I replaced them after 23,760 miles. My CO-worker had the same problem.

65 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2010

I have a 2008 Honda Accord that has premature brake ware. I have 34,000 miles on the vehicle and I have needed to replace the rear brake pads twice and the rotors once! this is completely unacceptable. I have owned several cars in my life, and have never seen a brake system designed so poorly. I have found online that Honda knows of this issue, but they are refusing to implement a fix and recall this model, which would be the ethical thing to do. They need to own up to the design flaw and come up with a solution. We all know how important good brakes are to the safety of everyone on the road.

66 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2010

2008 Honda Accord-rear brake pads worn out at 22,300 miles. Service personnel admit there was no uneven wear, not caused by driving habits etc. Described by service mgr. As normal According to Honda motor CO. And not covered by warranty.

67 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2010

Premature wearing of rear brake pads in 2008 Honda Accord - down to 30 percent as 12,500. With others it has happened with less mileage. Safety concern - risk of brake failure had to replace pads at my own cost - should be covered and problem corrected by Honda due to design flaw and safety issue!.

68 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2010

The rear inside brake pads on my 2008 Honda Accord, which has 25k miles, are severely worn and ihad to be immediately replaced. The rear outside brake pads, however, show normal wear for the car's mileage. An internet search of this problem indicated thousands of similar complaints affecting 2008 Honda Accords and represents a safety hazard that could lead to serious injury or death.

69 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2010

Bought a 2008 Honda Accord new in June '08. Rear brakes wore out after 25000 mi. I thought front pads were supposed to wear first but it seems, not. Very odd since 90% of my driving is interstate and my last car went 80k+ mi before my first brake job. Went on line and it seems many people are having the same issue. I hope nobody gets hurt here.

70 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

Premature wearing of rear brake pads in 2008 Honda Accord - happened to me at 20,000 miles, with others it has happened with less mileage. Safety concern - risk of brake failure had to replace pads at my own cost - should be covered and problem corrected by Honda due to design flaw and safety issue!.
