2008 Honda Accord. Consumer writes in regards to engine trouble. The consumer stated the actuator was the cause of the engine failure. The dealership and manufacturer failed to properly notify the consumer or remedy the failure.
2008 Honda Accord ex-l v6. Engine failure. Heading home and car cut off. Pulled over and called my mechanic for a tow to his shop. His diagnosis was engine failure and he stated a new engine is the only fix. My mechanic runs a small shop in a small town and he tells it like it is. He recommended selling the car for scrap rather than investing in the new engine. I was upset. This is a nice car and is quite clean. But during my five years of ownership I have added oil every week to keep it topped off. Spark plugs fouled often enough to carry extras in the trunk along with a ratchet and socket. When they fouled I would pull over, change them and go on my way. I still own the car. But it is has too many miles and is too old for inclusion into the class action settlement. This isn't right and it's the first and last Honda I will ever own.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. The vehicle was taken in for sevice under TSB 13-078. The vehicle was diagnosed that cylinders 1, 2, 3, and the piston rings failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired; however, cyclinder 4 failed. Cylinder 4 was not replaced, but was included in the TSB. It was not reading an error at the time. As a result, the engine failed and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.
Defect in engine with vtc acuator. At cold start the engine rattles loudly for about 2-5 seconds. Honda claims there is still no fix for problem. See Honda service bulletin 09-010. I feel vehicle will become unsafe to drive if there is an engine failure at highway speeds.
Engine rattles loudly for 2 seconds upon cold start. Online searches reveal this is a known problem with the vtc actuator and a TSB has been issues (NHTSA #10087883). Mechanic says could result in catastrophic engine failure if not fixed. I feel that Honda should pay for this repair on my vehicle.
