36 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2010

I own a 2009 Honda Accord. At around 25000 miles I heard a noise from the rear wheels. The Honda dealer where I had purchased the car told me my brakes needed to be replaced. I stated there must be some defect in the vehicle or brakes because the brakes should not need replacing that soon and the rear brakes should never need to be replaced before the front brakes. They said it was normal wear and charged me the full price of more than $250 for replacement. They admitted the new brake pads were "a longer lasting material". I was not aware of the well-documented deficiency in 2008-2009 Accord brakes at the time and the dealer did not mention the issue nor offer any discounts.

37 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2010

2009 Honda defective brake pads worn out at only 20,000 miles. Honda steadfastly refuses to take responsibility and fix the problem under warranty.

38 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2010

Premature wear of brakes pads and defective rotors.

39 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Honda Accord. While driving approximately 60 mph she engaged the brakes and the vehicle began to vibrate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine maintenance and she advised them of the problems with the brakes. The dealer did not mention anything about the brakes nor did she ask them for any information regarding them. Within a few months the vehicle was taken to the dealer to service the regulator and they suggested that she replace the rear brake pads. The dealer advised her that she had to pay for the repairs and request reimbursement. The vehicle was not repaired due to the repair cost. She notified the manufacturer and filed a complaint with them. The approximate failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 17,160.

40 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

I had to replace rear pads and rotors in 2009 Honda Accord lx 4dr at 24,000k because of premature wear. Most of my mileage was highway.

41 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2010

I have a 2009 Honda Accord ex-l v6 which I bought new in August of 2008. I noticed when driving down the road that a metallic scraping sound was coming from the brakes that went away when I applied the brake pedal. I took the car to the Honda dealer who said that the rear brake pads were worn and that they had been grinding into the rear rotors. There were 31,480 miles on the car as I drive mostly highway. The cost for new rear pads, rotors, and labor was $522. The class action lawsuit only pays out $150. This is extremely unfair and this defect should force a recall with full reimbursement by Honda.

42 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2010

At 18k, car started to shimmy when brakes applied. Dealer said rotors were bad but pads good, said that I had driven while riding on the brakes which is patently false.

43 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2010

On July 16th I left my 2009 Honda Accord in to my trusted mechanic for my annual new york state safety inspection with instructions to fix anything he finds wrong in order to meet the requirements, so when I returned from out of town, I could pick it up and it would be legal and safe. I was quite surprised to find that the rear brakes were worn to the point where new pads were needed for it to pass, which he replaced as directed. Since it only has 23,400 miles on it, a lot of that highway driving, I called Honda and found that there is a class action lawsuit for this very problem, although I was never notified. When I looked on the suggested website, Accordsettlement. Com, I read where you had to have had the brakes replaced with Honda brake pads in order to receive compensation for the premature wear, although I cannot imagine anyone wanting to replace with another bad set of pads and have this reoccur. Somehow, someone should direct other Accords (08 & 09) to this website so that they can be sure to know the conditions that must be met to satisfy Honda's requirements for such compensation.

44 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2010

It is unbelievable. Own a new 2009 Accord, rear brake pads gone after 15,000 miles. I am told by the dealership I need to change every 10,000 miles to be safe, this is unconscionable and fraudulent. Where has Honda quality control gone?.

45 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2010

Premature wear of my brakes on my 2009 Honda Accord. During braking my car would shake. Only 32k miles on my car, and the front rotors needed to be resurfaced, which was covered under warranty. My rear brakes were not covered and I had to pay $250 out of pocket to replace the brake pads which had been worn down to the brake squealer, and to resurface the rear rotors.

46 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2010

47 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2010

50 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Honda Accord. While driving 30 mph, there was a grinding noise when the brakes were applied and they failed to work properly. The dealer was contacted and would not provide any assistance. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the diagnostic test indicated that the rear brake pads were prematurely worn out. The brake pads were replaced. The failure mileage was 23000 and the current mileage was 26000.

51 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2010

Complete rear disc brake failure on a Honda Accord 2009 with approximately 20,000 miles. Replaced rotors and brake pads by a firestone repair shop, as dealer was not open on a Saturday. In the 2 days time we heard a noise coming from the rear of the car, the noise increased by about 300%. Brakes were down to the metal. Front brakes were fine. We kept the parts and are reporting to a Honda dealer in danbury, CT. This sat. May 1, 2010.

52 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

Intermittent scraping sound from rear of 2009 Accord lx-p <20,000 mi. Increased frequency over time. Took to the dealer where purchased who replaced both rear brake pads (old parts not available) and resurfaced both rear rotors for a cost of $250 - declaired not covered by warranty. Internet research and notification of a class action lawsuit for this rear brake failure indicates this is a common problem for specific Honda and accura models. I contend that Honda is aware of this problem since they have devised (but not delivered to dealers as yet) a replacement set of brake pads. Also this is indeed a safety problem since both rear brake pads were at zero pad life remaining and rotors were damaged per the dealer service techs. That means to me that my Accord had only 1/2 the designed braking ability which was engineered for this car - making the car unsafe in any emergency braking situation.

53 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2010

I purchased a 2009 Honda Accord within the past few months. I was looking into a problem with another vehicle of mine and stumbled across an issue many if not all 08' and 09' Accord owners are facing. Countless consumers report defects with the rear brakes. Mostly that they need to be replaced every 12,000 miles. Dealerships are telling the consumer this is the normal wear period for the rear brakes. This of course is not true, the front brakes are the ones that usually go first at around 50,000 depending on driving, conditions, etc. I learned Honda is using soft small organic pads. Furthermore I've learned of the dealerships unwillingness to cover the cost of the pads and labor from state to state. There is a serious design flaw regarding the brake system. My Accord currently has only 4,000 miles on it. Though I have not yet experienced the problem everyone else has, I know it is coming. It may seem odd for someone to report a problem that has not happened yet, however the need to be proactive regarding this matter will no doubt save lives. As a police officer in texas, I see the grim reality of what happens when vehicles are driven beyond their means or when the vital systems of these vehicles are defective. If these pads can't handle "normal wear and tear" they certainly will not be able to provide adequate stopping power during a harmful event. We all care about safety and our families welfare. Please look into this matter. Our safety should never be compromised over the gain or loss of a dollar. Lets fix this now, not after a major incident. Someone should not have to die before we decide something should be done about a problem that existed all along. Thank you.

54 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2010

This is the second Honda Accord that I have bought that had premature brake failure. The first Honda Accord 1996 had to have new rear brakes and pads at around 20,000 miles. This 2009 Honda Accord had premature brake failure at 21,085. This is not acceptable!! the bill was 409. 24 + tax. Absolutely ridiculous!!!.

55 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2010

I own a 2009 Honda Accord . It was purchased around October 2008. On January 21, 2010, it was taken to our local Honda dealer due to squealing brakes. The dealer reported that the rear brakes were worn and the pads needed to be replaced even though there is only 12,901 miles of use on the car. According to the dealer, this has been a common problem with 2008 and 2009 model Accords because the rear brakes were reduced in size even though more of the car's braking power was shifted to the rear axle. The dealer stated that many recent Honda Accords were needing rear brake pads replaced within one year and in as few as 7000 miles of use. As a "goodwill" gesture, the dealer agreed to replace the brakes for free. I then contacted Honda's corporate customer service center in torrance California and was informed that Honda is aware of this issue, but does not consider it a safety matter and has not issued a service bulletin regarding this issue. I believe the matter is a safety issue as few drivers would assume that their rear brakes might need to be replaced annually or after as few as 10,000 miles of use or less. By way of comparison, my 2004 Honda Accord has over 92,000 miles and the brakes are still original. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue promptly before a driver hits the brakes in a Honda Accord and discovers little or no brake power due to the unexpectedly few miles such brakes work before needing to be replaced.

56 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2010

Brakes making a noise, turned rotors and replaced pads, problem returned in Jan. 10, rotors turned again, Honda said faulty pads was the clause replaced once more, call had less then 4,000 miles on it first time, approx. 7000 second, I think rotors should not be milled over once and then rotors replaced ,they will not hear of that. Strange whine coming from bottom right side of transmission or engine, Honda claimed service bulletin call for oil pump to be replaced, which they change, no change in the sound plus now there is a leak from where they made repair.

57 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

2009 Accord coupe v6 - brake noise (squeal) present since vehicle was purchased in 3/09 so I performed regular visual inspections and noticed pronounced wear of rear pads. At 13k mi - took car to dealer who replaced rear pads under warranty (after originally telling me that they were a wear item therefore not covered but I balked due at paying knowing the high number of complaints for this same issue). Told new pads have same formula but new spring to force pad away from rotor after brake pedal is released. Inspection of original pads showed maybe 10% pad remaining and chipping of pad surface.

58 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2009

Premature wear and warping of brake rotors. Noticed rotors required resurfacing due to vibration during braking. Dealership turned rotors, drove vehicle for approximately 700 miles, and the problem recurred. Returned to dealership and all rotors were replaced under warranty. Pads were also replaced with merely 7000 miles. Dealership stated that the life expectancy of brake pads for this vehicle was about 10,000 miles. I find that to be absurd, typically brake pads will last 20k-30k miles. There appears to be a flaw in the materials used to manufacture the pads, in the manufacturing process, or perhaps the brake assembly is inappropriate for this vehicle weight, causing the rotor to over temp and warp if not capable to dissipate the excess heat. This vehicle has been driven in extremely normal driving conditions, primarily highway driving, and had not experienced a hard braking event to that point that may have contributed to this failure.

59 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2009

Brakes on 2009 Honda Accord started periodic vibration at 5,000 miles. At 10,600 miles the rear pads were completely worn out and braking on a steep hill was compromised. An online search indicated that there are numerous complaints about the brakes on this auto.

60 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2009

2009 Honda Accord, trim level ex, engine v6 with navigation system. At regular service, dealer advised rear brake pads needed to be replaced. Car had, at that time, 16,354 miles on the odometer. Deterioration is four times more than front brake pads. Honda is aware of this problem on all 2008 and 2009 Honda Accords but has never notified individual owners of the problem. Dealers have been advised by Honda to offer owners a partial refund on brake pad replacements. However, the replacement does not alleviate the problem. The owner would again have to replace the brake pads every 15,000 miles or less. Honda continues to sell these cars new without advising the potential buyer that the vehicle has a major rear brake pad problem. I feel Honda is attempting to hide the problem to avoid a recall and to lessen their financial liability. Research into this problem on the internet reveals that thousands of owners have this problem for which Honda refuses to accept liability. I consider such premature brake pad wear exposes the owner to potential brake failure resulting in serious injury or death.

61 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

Rear brake pads needed to be replaced after less than a year.

62 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2009

Original rear brake pads had to be replaced at 15,500 miles. The replacement rear brake pads are now at 4. 0 mm at 25,400 miles. That is only 9,940 miles after the first replacement. Original p/n:43022-tao-a40.

63 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2009

I took my brand new 2009 Honda Accord lx into the dealer for routine service at 12,700 miles and was informed that my rear brake pads are failing and will need to be replaced within 18,000 miles. The dealer told me that this is a known problem with the Accord's and they have been waiting for over a year for Honda motor corp. To fix the problem. After reading all the thousands of consumer complaints about these rear brake pad premature failures it is obvious that many 2008 to 2010 Honda Accord's on the road are operating in a potentially dangerous condition. I implore the NHTSA to force Honda motor corp. To recall and repair all 2008 to 2010 Accord's which is the responsible and reasonable course of action before people are seriously injured or die.

64 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2009

The brakes on my 2009 Honda Accord, purchased at "courtesy palm harbor Honda" started squealing badly at 19,000 miles. I have noticed for the past three months that the car seemed to actually slow down more than normal when I take my foot off the gas -- as if the brakes were not fully released. I've also noticed reduced fuel efficiency. About a week ago, the brakes started squealing badly, as if the pads were fully worn. I figured the problem couldn't be the brake pads at 19k miles, so I brought it in to the dealer today. Turns out the rear brake pads are completely worn down and it is the service technician's opinion that the cause is my style of driving -- not a defective Honda problem. After telling him that I drive with only one foot (I don't hold my left foot on the brake pedal while driving), he stated that Accords are built with autobahn quality, high-performance brake parts that are really soft for enhanced braking ability. I told him that I hardly feel that this base-model Accord would be considered a "high performance" vehicle. Nevertheless, the "soft / high-quality pads" and my driving style was his reason (according to him) for the premature wearing of the brakes. I've owned 15+ cars in my life time and have never had brake pads wear down in less than 40,000 miles - especially rear brakes! I told the tech that after doing extensive research, I found out that this is a very well-known problem with Accords. He said his hands were tied and he couldn't offer me any relief without Honda corp's. Blessing. The service tech told me the pads were nice and evenly warn. I changed the brake pads myself and found the opposite to be true - the inner pad was way more worn out than the outer - indication a brake system defect.

65 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2009

Brakes on my 2009 Honda Accord. Pads have been replaced on both the front and rear with in 5,000 miles. Rotors replaced on front and the rears need it now too.

66 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2009

2008 Honda Accord, brakes needed replacing after noises started coming from the rear brakes, rotors shot, drums needed replacing, pads gone. All this happened at 26210 miles for a total of $547. 86. The brakes will need replacing every 20,000 miles as advised by the Honda dealer. Honda claims it is not a safety problem - bull - brakes are a safety problem, how can Honda advertise they have a safe car and have brakes failing on over 500 complaints filed to date. These idiots are protecting their stockholders and risking the common person. Ntsb needs to get a pair and start investigating Honda's lies. Everyone who owns a Honda Accord should start a massive complaint system to get Honda to fix the problem. People count, not stockholders. Honda use to be a great car - this one is a pile of crap so their stockholders can get more money. Honda needs to step up and fix the problem or get the hell out of this country, Ford stands behind their product, maybe Honda should find out of americans take care of their people.

Honda Accord 2008 rear brake pads wear down too fast, see:. . Read more...

68 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2009

Purchased a 2009 Honda Accord full loaded. After 18 thousand miles, I needed to change the rear brakes. According to dealer it was a defect on the pads and that is why I ran with the problem. I saw online all the complaints on the same issue and is incredible, I believe the 2008 and 21009 should be recall on all brakes since it looks like people are changing their brakes every 7-8 month and Honda is not doing anything about fixing the problem. I had to pay for my brakes and had such a big problem addressing it to the manager at Honda mission valley, he keeps saying that is no the dealers problem, but once I send him the link with all the problems people have on their brakes, he said nothing else. I am concern on my family and my self safety. How many times would I have to change in a year my brakes. Is that something normal? I don't think so. Please let people know the problem that all Hondas are having right now. Something needs to be done. Is not fair that we pay thousands of dollars and before 1 year old of purchasing the car, now I am having problems with brakes, accessories inside the car and tire pressure. One of my tires leak tat I have to put air every month. I am very disappointed on how Honda handles the issue. I trusted their opinion and what do I get a piece of crap. This will be the last time I will purchase a Honda, I have had the worse experience. I will love for someone to really investigate the problem on the rear brakes , on why they ran out so quickly .

69 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2009

The rear brake pads on both my Honda Accords failed with less than 34,000 miles on my wife's car and less than 30,000 miles on my daughter's Honda.

70 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2009

I bought a 2009 Honda Accord from a local dealer here in nashville,TN. I have about 20,000 miles on my car and I started hearing a weird screeching noise and went to the dealer for a check up. The dealer service guys told me that my rear brake pads have worn out and is out of warranty. I cross checked with other Honda Accord buyers and they all had a similar problems with their brake pads. This was mentioned to the dealer service guys and then they accepted that they had few thousand complaints on the same issue from new car owners. They are refusing to replace the brake pads as the company had not yet sent them any directive for such. They want to charge me $180. 00 for rear brake pads replacement. The dealer name is crest Honda in nashville and the car is a 2009 Honda Accord sedan. This problem seems to be a poor design or a manufacturing defect that the company needs to own up and fix it.
