I am an original owner of a 2001 Honda Accord. I noticed a little noise from the passenger side front suspension. I took tire off and see that the subframe is rusted out. I love the car but now I am nervous about driving the car. I see that this is a common problem. Hopefully Honda will have a recall. I.

Back windshield leaked. A third of the seal was not installed and water leaked into roof liner in car. Leaked from rain and car wash. Suspension clunks and makes noise like an old car. Vehicle in shop almost 30 days 1st year, at least 18 consecutive. Dealer recommended vehicle be bought back due to issues but Honda regional mechanic came in and said tha'ts just how they ride. Car still rides like an old truck over bumps. No satisfaction as far as I'm concerned.

(registering this complaint on 16 Sep 19). I bought this car new ('18 Accord hybrid), 6 Sep 18. A couple months later the front struts started making a creaking/popping sound. It was very noticeable when backing out of garage and then driving out of my neighborhood. When I'd rock the steering back and forth, the noise was very audible. Took it back to the dealer and they said neither front strut had been lubed from the factory (very odd), so they lubed them. 2-3 weeks later noise returned. This time dealer said one strut was bad and they replaced it. A month later the same noise returned. Dealer said I had a bent control arm and asked me if I had hit something. I hadn't and told them so. After inspection they said they found no damage but that the control was bent and concluded that it was bent from the factory or was damaged during shipping. Dealer replaced it. But then 3-4 weeks later same noise returned. I have about had it with this particular car (I have had to take it back to the dealer for many 'other' issues also: two recalls, electrical issues, navigation issues, the engine's battery was faulty, and the mileage has steadily dropped by 25% since I bought and took delivery of it in Sep, 2018). Service manager said he would discuss these issues with Honda area rep (last week), but has yet to get back to me as of 16 Sep 19. Among all the problems, the suspension has been ongoing over the last 10-11 months. West hills Honda has made three attempts to correct the suspension problems but all have failed. The suspension noise is still present as of 16 Sep 19. Vehicle has approximately 8700 miles.

2017 Honda Accord se (special edition) with continental p235/40r19 tires suddenly with 22k miles began to make what seems to be a metal to metal noise at low speeds. Dealer stated tire bead is defective and tends to not seal with 19in factory rims. Apparently lowering the tire pressure from 51psi to 40ps/I makes /problem or noise go away. In my case the noise returned a week after dealership (Honda world, westminster, CA) added tire bead sealant to front left driver side tire. I filed a complaint with Honda corporate office in torrance, CA on 9/27/19 who reported tires were not covered in 36k warranty. This could also be a wheel/rim problem or other suspension problem. The rim and tires apparently are to heavy for car. Car was purchased new with these tires and rims from factory. It is rare that a tire will produce a metal on metal grinding noise. It is my expectation that the ntsb take this issue serious as it presents a serious issue if tire blows up or tire bead deforms. The dealer declined to fix problems and blamed issue on tires. They suggested I purchase another tire. One tire costs approximately $250. 00 dollars. I'm in the process of contacting continental tire in south carolina to address issue also. Finally as you may be already aware this is a recurrent problem with other 2016-17 Honda Accord owner.

I've had my power steering pump and rack & pinion replaced. Power steering is still tough, feels like I'm turning the wheel with 40lb weights on each side of it. Suspension is failing, hitting a bump makes my car feel like the suspension is pushing up and makes it float momentarily and makes a slight noise while driving. Both cv axles failed front side at the same point of that rubber grommet in the middle, water gets trapped under it and makes it rust out. . . . Both of them snapped while I was driving at different points.

I had to replace rear suspension within first year & Honda dealer told me is very common; bad suspension on 07 Hondas, but once replaced will last forever-so why not a factory defect!? then at 3 years something in front suspension, same story. Now the vtc actuator needs replacement-rumbling noise at startup for less than a minute, which I'm finding out is the case with a lot of Hondas now, old & brand new. Old Hondas used to last; used to be excellent & all I've driven past 25 years. Now the Honda brand is unreliable - loyal Honda owners like me, after 25 years driving only Honda, are switching brands. Honda is not the reliable car it once was. I will never buy Honda again because of major problems I had on my 07 right from the start (I bought my 07 Honda brand new in 08) & had problems I never saw before in the past even with 15+-year old Hondas.
Excessive inside tire tred wear on all 4 tires. I have had a 4-wheel alignment done twice this year alone. Each time the mechanics are explaining to me that the alignment is to factory specs and there isn't any mechanical issue that should be causing this uneven wear. Since purchasing the car in oct. 2015 new, I am only getting half the wear mileage the tire manufacturer says I should. Upon doing some reseach online in car forums there seems to be an issue with the factory rear suspension, camber settings, that is causing many Honda Accord owners to experience the same uneven wear on the interior side of the tire tread. Due to the tires cupping my car make excessive road noise and vibrations.

Rear tires wear unevenly on the inside, car had 14000 miles and had replace the tires due excessive noise. Second set of tires wearing the same way. Unadjustable camber issue. Safety issue, suspension failure may occur.
I keep hearing whining sounds under hood. I initially thought it was power steering because it was a little low. However, after topping it off, it continues and sometimes get even louder. I have also noticed cracking sound from wheel when driving. It's really noticeable when roads/streets are uneven. It sounds like wheels are going to roll off at any time. Dealership told me my driver side map light needs to be replaced. However, driver side map light works on rare occasions. I also noticed that light on driver side visor seems to have a short. This is very disturbing. I owned a 98 Honda Accord and never had these issues for 13 years. I noticed there has been recall for certain 2011 Honda Accord for suspension issues. Why is this car not included?.

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. While driving 65 mph, the contact's vehicle inadvertently turned to the left and almost collided with another vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle would inadvertently move to the left and right while driving at various speeds. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to culver city Honda (9055 w washington blvd, culver city, CA (310) 815-3888), but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was then taken to airport marina Honda (5850 w centinela Ave. Los angeles, CA 90045 (310) 649-2440). The contact went on a diagnostic test drive with a technician and was informed that the vehicle shook and moved to the left and right. The contact was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering wheel column shaft was loose, the front suspension felt rough, and there was a knocking sound coming from the steering. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 29,000.
Veh making weird sounds coming from right front wheel area. "cracking, popping, squeaking" dealership fixed it and continues, next week dealership stated they would order more parts to repair it. Then they found when they went to fix it the second time that the frame was bent and broken with rust and it is impossible to repair without repairing the suspension first. The cost to me $2,700. 00.

Since day 1, have had issues with a noticeable clunking noise while going over bumps. After 4 repair attempts at a Honda dealership that led to tightening of 'loose'(as per the mechanic and paperwork) nuts and bolts, adjustments of the rack, replacement of both front struts as well as replacement of the front steering rack, the noise continued. During the 5th repair attempt after meeting with an engineer from Honda as well as the Honda certified mechanic, the mechanic tells me that the subframe became unglued. The new design of the Honda subframe is now glued and not welded, in order to make the vehicle lighter and more fuel efficient. I am told by a Honda engineer that Honda tech line is now aware of this issue(which tells me there hsve been numerous complaints). Even after the entire subframe was recently replaced, I continue to have front end issues with my brand new car including creaking and vibration. I am currently working with a lemon law attorney and now have had 5 repair attempts on this vehicle. This subframe issue certainly is a safety matter and failure of such could lead to catastrophic accidents. This has and continues to be an ongoing problem. The 'glued' subframes in these vehicles should be investigated. Please note that this Honda is their top of the line 'touring' model which has additional suspension parts for a smoother ride supposedly. I have all of my documentation from the dealership should you require it.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. While driving above 25 mph, the vehicle experienced a loud banging noise from the front and rear suspensions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,500.
Takata recall - the curtain airbag light randomly comes up on the dashboard. Which means the airbag gets deactivated frequently while driving with no reason. Also my right front wheel bearing had to be repalced due to huge noise, and front right suspension is leaking and not taking shocks.

Clicking noise was coming from front suspension area. Car was inspected by a local mechanic and stated that there was a water leak from the air conditioner condenser onto the passenger side of the front subframe. As a result, the subframe fractured on the passenger side. The mechanic stated that the subframe was rusted and fractured. The front subframe needed to be replaced. Mechanic stated that the car was unsafe to drive as it could have resulted in severe injuries/death. Contacted american Honda on 7-15-15 to get a goodwill repair since this is a common issue with other owners as a result of manufacture defect. Amal, the representative in the product concerns department stated that it is Honda's policy not to issue goodwill since the car is out of warranty and is 15 years old. Honda - not everyone can afford brand new cars!!! your reputation has been to produce safe, dependable vehicles, but your lack of actual "customer support" shows otherwise. . Read more...

I purchased this vehicle in February 2015. The first thing that I had to fix was the axle ( output shaft ) seal leak which the Honda dealer did not want to repair even though the car only had 62,000. Also, it makes a loud noise in the back when I go over the speed bump which is coming from the suspension. In addition, whenever I took the vehicle to ntb for an oil change. The mechanic told me that the rear main seal needs to be replaced because it is starting to leak motor oil. And again, the Honda dealer does not want to honor the powertrain warranty on my vehicle despite the low mileage it has. Seems like I need to file a lawsuit against them.
The Honda Accord 2008 model started to clunk heavily in the front suspension when the weather was hot, anything above 85 degrees. When the front end was lifted or weather cooled, the sound went away. Steering became sloppy and felt unsafe. This summer when weather was very hot, the clunk became very loud and metal scraping on metal was apparent, especially on start, stop and any bumps. Honda issued a service bulletin dated Sep. 17, 2013, bulletin 12-082 that describes this problem and attributes it to ball joints that become unlubricated in high ambient temperatures. Of course metal on metal contact without lubrication in the ball joint quickly destroys the ball joint, affects steering adversely, fatigues the metal and could lead to breakage. I attempted to have Honda north America pay for the repair of this part that they acknowledge is defective in their service bulletin 12-082, but they were not willing to pay for the complete repair. I had new ball joints put on and it steers well and clunking is gone. Was not willing to let it go on longer and risk breakage at detriment to myself and family. This is a part that should be recalled/repaired at Honda's expense and poses a safety risk.

Heard a noise when breaking, turning, or going over bump. Took it to my mechanic & found that the passenger side front suspension sub frame (rear cross member) was completely rusted out. Sway bar is no longer attached to the frame. $1600 repair & he can not even find a part as he has seen so many of this same problem in last couple years. This is a very common problem due to ac dripping on the frame in that section. Driver side is solid. Honda needs to address this issue!.
While taking off my tires to inspect the tierods and brakes I noticed a significant amount of rust on the passenger side front end vehicle subframe directly below the air conditioner drain line. It is rusted through currently only on the top side but it is a matter of time until this progresses to the underside as well. This leaves only the lower portion to hold the suspension and engine in place. I did some research and found many others have had this problem seeming caused by the drain line being positioned directly above this piece of the subframe. I purchased this vehicle a year ago from a local Honda dealership that in hind sight definitely seemed like they were trying to get rid of a lemon. There were a number of other issues with the car (electrical, etc) and now I find this. This car was serviced at this dealership its entire life (since new) and the dealership absolutely should have noticed this subframe rotting as they performed routine oil changes, tire changes, tire rotations, etc. I believe that Honda should be responsible for this since 1) the vehicle was purchased and maintained at the Honda dealership and 2) it seems to be a significant design flaw to have the drain immediately above this area. . . The drivers side does not show any rust at all and appears structurally sound.

While turning into a driveway, vehicle made loud banging sound as it went over a minor elevation when entering the driveway from the street. The vehicle makes popping and bumping noises while turning. After inspecting the vehicle, it was discovered that the passenger side subframe was severely rusted. The rust has eaten through the frame that supports the vehicles suspension and steering. There was little to no rust on the driver side subframe. I was informed the rust may due to a defect in the drip line from the air conditioner depositing directly over the subframe. I was informed the vehicle is unsafe to drive and should be repaired immediately.

Right front suspension makes a metal to metal squeal noise when turning to the left while the wheels are rolling. Crown Honda, durham, nc replace three parts in the right front suspension under warranty as directed by Honda tech line on Nov. 20, 2012. However, as of Dec. 5, 2012, the squeal noise has returned when turning to the left and the right front suspension now makes a clunk noise when traveling over small dips in the roadway. Since the noise sounds like metal to metal rubbing, I'm concerned about breakage of these moving parts and my overall safety.

Recently I heard a clunking sound coming from the front of the car. Upon inspection the mechanic said that the sub frame on the passenger's side had rusted/rotted out and that the front suspension had come loose from the sub frame. He said that the car was unsafe to drive and that I needed to have it repaired immediately. I called sunnyside Honda and spoke with the service manager regarding the problem. I said that I had looked on the internet and this was a Honda design defect and that numerous individuals had reported the same problem. I asked if Honda was willing to do anything to help with the repair because it was a design defect and that I had been a loyal Honda customer for years. The service manager contacted Hondas district service manager who replied that Honda was not willing to cover any of the $2,000. 00 cost of replacing the sub frame. I then followed up with american Honda motor CO. , inc. 's main customer service department in California. I spoke with [xxx] and she put me on hold for a long time. When she returned she said that the district service manager had said Honda was not going to do anything to help so the main customer service people were not able to do anything to help. A short time ago my grandson, a student at bowling green state university, purchased a 1998 Honda Accord for $4000. 00. Upon recent inspection of that car the sub frame has rusted/rotted out the same as my car and many other Honda Accords. I believe that Honda should be responsible for recalling and repairing these unsafe automobiles before someone is injured or killed as a result of their design defect and that they will continue to be unwilling to do so as long as individuals have no power to make them take responsibility. I am asking that you make it a priority to investigate and issue a recall of all these automobiles with Honda's design defect. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The front suspension is making a knocking or thumping sound. The noise can be heard inside the car but not outside the car. The noise appears on hot summer days after the car has been driven for about 30 - 60 minutes. The noise is primarily heard at low speeds and when the brake is applied. Sometimes it can be felt in the steering wheel or brake pedal. The car was taken to a kansas city area Honda dealer but the noise was not duplicated because the car sat for a while and was not driven for 30 - 60 minutes. There are two similar complaints on safercar. Gov. A texan recently reported the same problem on the Hondaaccordforum. Com. He reports the Honda dealer service representative said they had three similar reports and the fix is to replace both front knuckles and bearings. He said the Honda tech line is aware of this problem. He wonders why a service bulletin or recall has not been issued because it could lead to loss of steering. I believe this is a common problem and that something should be formally done to correct the problem. Request NHTSA initiate a defects investigation.

I bought a 2011 Honda Accord lx, it was delivered with 11 miles. After I drove the car for little over 300 miles it was making a lot of noise. The noise is coming from the transmission and left side suspension when the car is put in reverse. I contact Honda of north America and inquire about the loud noise they told me that there is no recall on my car. I then contact the dealership that I bough the car from to check it out. I meet with the service manager and I let him listen to the noise, he then stated that it was normal which I find very strange. About a few days later the loud noise from the transmission also came a new problem a loud clonking noise from the left side front suspension. I contact the dealer and talk to service rep and explain what was going on he check the service record and say it was normal.
Brand new 2011 Accord v-6 coupe has so many isues. This is the only car I ever owned that you hear gasoline splashing around the tank, whehn turning left or right the rear suspension squeaks, the transmission bucks like crazy when accelerating and decelerating!clunking noise from the front end. I am getting rid of it. Piece of junk. Do not buy one!been horrible and only had it since 1/1/11.
Purchase a 2010 Honda Accord on 5/24/10 - since the purchase the car has been back to the dealer 3 times for "popping/knocking" on the front driver side. First I was told there was a loose bolt on the suspension, the second time I was told it was again loose bolts on the suspension - car is currently at the dealer for third time awaiting response. The noise is extremely loud and distracting - terrified that the tires will fall off when driving. Dealer does not seemed concerned.
Right rear suspension produces an abnormal and annoying drumming noise in the passenger compartment at40 mph or greater on concrete highways and rough asphalt roads. It also sounds like bouncing basketballs when crossing lane markers or tar strips.

Problems with vehicle's steering and suspension. There were steering problems, clicking noises that had run through the shifter and the steering wheel when placed into gear. There was no problem found in the steering or the suspension. The steering wheel did not return completely and when it did it would do so slowly, it also moved in circles. The brake pedal made noises when it was applied and metal like noises that had come from beneath the vehicle. The vehicle drove rough over bumps. When stepping on the brake pedal before going into gear, it felt as if the vehicle was already in park. The consumer was told that the vehicle rode rough due to too much air pressure in the tires (over 50lbs of pressure in two of the tires. The front brake pads and rack and pinion were replaced.
