2 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2025 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/07/2026

I am filing a formal safety-related complaint regarding my 2025 Honda Civic sport touring hybrid and the performance of its driver assistance systems. This vehicle uses a camera-only driver assist and lane keeping system. I previously owned a 2018 Honda Civic touring that used both radar and camera. The earlier radar+camera system performed significantly better, maintained the lane more accurately, and provided smoother, more predictable behavior. The 2025 camera-only system frequently: – drifts within the lane – loses lane tracking unexpectedly – requires frequent driver intervention – feels less stable at highway speeds in my opinion, the newer vehicle’s system represents a downgrade in functional safety compared with prior-generation Honda systems. This change was not disclosed during the sales process, and many owners may assume newer models offer equal or better driver-assist performance. My concern is that removal of radar and reliance on camera-only sensing has resulted in degraded lane keeping performance that could increase crash risk due to unexpected disengagement or poor lane centering. I request this information be reviewed as part of consumer safety monitoring of driver assistance systems. 3 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2025 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/27/2025

While in cruise mode, car has several times suddenly and rapidly braked for a semi truck that did not exist. Most of the instances the road ahead was completely clear. On one occasion this nearly caused the vehicle behind me to ram me.

4 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2025 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/25/2025

On a two way lane highway, vehicle detects on coming traffic and causes sudden deceleration of vehicle and braking which can cause being rear ended by another vehicle. This also occurs on multi lane freeways when going in the same direction the vehicle will detect a vehicle in the lane next to me braking and again cause the vehicle to decelerate and brake which could cause an accident. Occurs at least once or twice a week. I have a video of the issue which might be better.

5 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2025 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/11/2025

While driving at highway speeds with the adaptive cruise control system active, the system is causing the vehicle to come to a complete stop to avoid a collision that does not exsist. In all cases when this has occurred, there are no other vehicles on the road. This inlcudes in front, beside or coming toward me from the opposite direction. When this does occur, the screen does show a vehicle icon as if it is detecting a vehicle in front of me but there is none. Since purchasing this vehicle in may 2025, this issue has occurred 6 times. I have brought this to my dealers attention during my most recent visit and was advised Honda was working on an update to resolve this issue but I have not received any communication from Honda indicating a recall was coming or an update to resolve.

6 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2025 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/26/2025

While utilizing adaptive cruise control in clear weather, the system will harshly brake when there are no obstacles or vehicles ahead. I have almost been rear ended on numerous occasions due to unexpected braking while at highway speeds. I have not gone to the dealership yet, but intend to do so. During these braking events there are no other warning lights, and no other visual or audio alerts.

7 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/30/2025

Numerous defects in my 2024 Honda Civic sport. I leased this vehicle in January 2024 for 36 months (with a $4,675 down payment and $284. 62 monthly payments). From early in the lease, the car has been plagued with serious problems. Below is a chronological list of the issues my vehicle has experienced: gearbox replacement – Feb 3, 2025 (12,792 miles): the vehicle’s transmission/gearbox failed catastrophically and was replaced under warranty. Axle boots replacement – Feb 19, 2025 (13,384 miles): soon after, the front axle boots were found to be defective (leaking) and were replaced. Climate control panel failure (moisture damage) – Mar 6, 2025 (13,892 miles): the climate control and infotainment panel stopped functioning due to moisture intrusion and had to be replaced. Refusal to diagnose vibration issue – June 27, 2025 (18,116 miles): I reported a persistent and concerning vibration during driving (which could indicate an unresolved powertrain or suspension issue), but the dealership refused to perform a diagnostic or address it, returning the car to me without resolution. Steering wheel damage & falsified report – June 30, 2025: during a service visit, dealership personnel damaged the steering wheel and then provided a false report that inaccurately stated the damage was pre-existing, instead of taking responsibility. Ongoing audio system malfunctions – (continuing issue): the car’s audio system suffers from frequent usb/bluetooth disconnections, which have persisted despite multiple service visits. The car's lane assist is triggered at random during drives almost causing several auto accidents. Every one of these issues is documented through repair orders and correspondence. I have maintained a file with all relevant service records, emails with the dealer (Honda of van nuys), and photographic evidence (such as photos of the steering wheel after the damage on June 30, 2025). These docs are available.

8 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/13/2025

Recall repair completed 6/13/2025 (steering related recall) a steering recall repair was completed on 6/13/20025 on my vehicle. The steering felt normal for approximately one week then began sticking again and has progressively worsened. The steering now binds and physically "grabs" 100% of the time. While navigating through curves, the steering wheel remains in the turned position and does not return smoothly to center. When attempting to correct, the steering overcorrects due to the binding sensation. This has resulted in at least two near-collision events. The vehicle is driven approximately 70 highway miles daily, creating a significant safety concern. No steering warning lights are illuminated. Additionally, adaptive cruise control also intermittently stops working while driving and will not re-engage until the ignition is turned off and restarted. When attempting to re-engage, the system emits three beeps and will not activate. The vehicle was evaluated at an authorized Honda dealership on 3/2/2026. The dealer stated they could not reproduce the steering or adaptive cruise control issue. A brake switch circuit code (c0041-14) and condensation in a taillight assembly were noted, and taillight replacement was suggested before further diagnosis. However, the steering binding continues during normal operation. An aftermarket lighting module (installed by a prior owner years ago) was noted. However, the vehicle has been serviced, and a 21-point inspection performed several times, of which revealed no issues with either the taillight or the installed lighting. The vehicle did have steering issues before the recall repair and had every symptom that was stated in the recall. After the repair there were no issues for at least a week, even with the aftermarket component being present, and then the malfunction returned and worsened as time went on. This condition poses a serious safety risk. The vehicle is available for inspection.

10 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2025 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/09/2025

I've previously reported the cmbs (collision mitigation braking system) and rdms (road departure mitigation system) warning messages that have been appearing too frequently. Today is the day it finally happened, my wife was driving on the highway when auto cruise control with lane keep assist set at 66 on the passing lane, with a truck to the right. Halfway passing the truck on auto cruise control with lane keep assist, our Honda suddenly automatically braked (went from 66mph to ~56mph, there were no vehicles in front of her). She urgently took back control and sped up as the warning lights flashed (collision mitigation braking system problem - 60mph and road departure mitigation system - 58mph, pictures attached) and the driving assist features that were originally on all became disabled. All of this happened at about the same time in a manner of ~3 seconds. She was lucky that no one was behind her at that moment, and she did not get into an accident or worse! Honda has done nothing to fix this issue, and we have already taken the vehicle to the dealership's service 3 times already. Please expand the investigation to all Honda vehicles that uses their driver assistance system including models of newer years! this is really dangerous!! I've included photos of many of the previous times the error/warning message has appeared, and I've included the photo of the error/warning message that appeared right after incident occurred today. These error/warning messages has come up at least over 50+ times now since I've owned this car.

11 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2025 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/14/2025

When traveling with cruise control enable the vehicle random slams on the brakes by itself even when their is no vehicle present in front. This has happened mutiple times on the highway and interstate. It has almost gotten me rearened from a vehicle deiving behind me. This is extremely dangerous. I made the dealership aware of the issue and they refused to address it.

12 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/17/2025

The adaptive cruise control is the safety issue. It creates danger for both me and for others. Traveling at speeds approximately 65-70 mph the car suddenly brakes very hard. Causes me and my passengers to be jolted extremely hard. Its happened 3 times, I was fortunate enough to not have anybody traveling behind me. If a car was to be traveling behind me at a safe distance the sudden braking would cause them to rear end me. I can only imagine how horrible the injuries could be. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by dealership. I have an appt. Scheduled March 4. 2025 at the local Honda dealership. There was no warning lamps that came on. There was no messages also no symptoms prior to these incident. Happens for unknown reason. This issue has occurred on 3 separate occasions. The most recent one was on Feb. 17, 2025.

13 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/19/2025

Every time I get in the car at some point in my drive, all of my safety features kickoff. Basically my adas. I can’t even use cruise control. There’s a huge safety issue because I was on a snowy road and my traction control was not on cause my Civic to lose control. Good thing I recovered it and no accident. I can drive 5 miles down the road or 200 miles, but at some point it will kick on. I have looked this up, and thousands of Honda owners are having this issue. I took my car to the dealership and they did a diagnostic on it and cannot tell me what the issue was. The dealer was prescott Honda in arizona. Thousands owners are having this issue.

14 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/11/2025

I get a random warning that is an issue with the braking system and the brake light comes on. The lane departure and cruise control is shut off while the vehicle is in motion. There is a sudden and unexpected drop in speed when the cruise control is shut off by the vehicle. The vehicle remains operable without the systems activated the warnings go away after restarting.

15 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/27/2024

I rented this car. The adaptive cruise worked great in the daytime, but when it got dark and started to rain, the system started to lose its ability to detect other vehicles. Instead of disabling itself like it should have, the system continued to operate. It often would detect vehicles intermittently, speeding up and slowing down randomly and abruptly. The worst incident was when I was behind an unloaded flatbed semi (again, it was dark and raining. ) the car lost track of the semi and accelerated to my set speed. As I got closer, but not that close, the car suddenly thought I was much closer than I was and initiated automated emergency braking. It then lost sight of the semi and repeated this cycle a few more times before I turned off cruise control. There was no one behind me, or this could have been a serious accident. I looked in the owner's manual to see how to disable the system and was appalled to see that it uses a single camera instead of a radar. This is obviously unsafe in bad weather, and the system did not disable itself appropriately.

16 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/19/2024

While in park, out of the blue, four different types of adas lights came on the dashboard all at the same time. (acc, collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, & brake system). Cruise control, automatic, high beams, etc. No longer worked. Dashboard said to take the car to the dealership. At the dealership, Honda said there was a malfunction with the radar sensor. They ran the diagnostic test, and after updating the system, the problem was fixed.

17 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/31/2024

I was driving straight going 35mph on a 2 lane rd when my steering wheel starting making a weird noise & almost was shaking. The steering wheel then locked up to the left & wouldn’t move. This caused my driver side tire to go into the curb, & at this point my steering wheel was spinning in circles & all I could do was brake. After bumping off the curb I then was thrusted back over to the right lane (due to having no steering control) where I came to a stop grazing another vehicle. My insurance performed diagnostics on the vehicle & determined the steering rack housing assembly part failed, causing the accident. There was no damage at all to the vehicle that would indicate this part was damaged as result of the incident, therefore they are calling it “pre existing damage” even though Honda did a multipoint inspection on my car 08/03/2024 (not even a whole 3 months prior) that did not mention a single steering problem. It was ultimately determined this failure is what caused the incident. Upon further research I have found millions of Civics are recalled for this issue but not my year of the vehicle. However, I have found countless stories exactly like mine with steering failure all regarding the 2019 Honda Civic. I am now without a vehicle, insurance refused to pay for the failed part, and I have reached out to Honda over 10 times trying to get in contact with someone about this to no avail. I truly was terrified for my life and feel this needs to be addressed because as previously mentioned, there are countless other 2019 Honda Civic owners with the same horrifying stories. This puts not only owners at risk but all other drivers.

18 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/05/2024

Twice lately I was following a vehicle towing a trailer with equipment on it. I noticed that the area on the dash which shows vehicles in front of me did not detect these vehicles or their trailers. I am concerned that automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise and forward collision detection will not work.

19 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/22/2024

I was driving on an interstate highway in upstate NY, just past dusk, when my 2024 Honda Civic attempted to come to a rapid stop without my input. My car decelerated violently, dropped about 20 mph in speed, then immediately accelerated back to the speed set on my cruise control. I did have the adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist engaged when this happened. Interestingly, there was not another car around me nor coming my way in the opposite lanes and the weather was 72 degrees and overcast. This event scared the hell out of me and I was lucky that no other vehicle was close behind in my lane at the time!.

20 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/22/2024

When no other vehicles ahead on straight road, decelerates randomly 15-20 mph. Happened at least 3 times on a 450 mile trip. Occasionally also will brake when car ahead change lanes in a different lane than I was driving.

21 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2021 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/05/2024

The front sensor is too sensitive. If there is another car using a turn lane, the Civic will try to brake and will not pass the car. If another car is ahead on a curve, the automatic braking kicks in. This tends to only happen when using cruise control. It is dangerous on the freeway. The sudden braking could cause me to be rearended. I've been lucky, so far, and have only received dirty looks from the drivers that were behind me as they passed. Since it doesn't happen every single time, there seems no way to reproduce it. No one has inspected it for defects. No warning lights, beeps or messages appear before the braking starts. This has been happening since I first bought the car in 2022, but seems to be more frequent now. Probably the reason it was returned. . . In my opinion.

22 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/15/2024

I am noticing intermittent issues with adas with all the following errors pop up at once. The issue comes on randomly and goes back to normal randomly. * adaptive cruise control problem * collision mitigation braking system problem * lane keep assist problem * road departure mitigation system problem * braking system error has not been confirmed by an independent service/dealer/insurance/police. No other warning messages before this.

23 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/10/2024

Since April of 2024, my steering has been sticking when making the slightest of turns. It has progressively gotten worse. I initially thought that I needed power steering fluid but that did not correct the issue. This sticky causes my vehicle to veer to the left and right abruptly into other lanes. I am fighting to keep the vehicle straight. I can hear the sticking noise constantly due to the lack of lubrication in the steering gearbox. I am fearful that I may cause an accident and injure myself or others when driving and I would like assistance in having the dealership correct this issue. This issue also causes the sensors for my abs, adaptive cruise control, lane departure etc to malfunction and alarm.

24 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2013 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/03/2024

Purchased November 2023 not even 1 week warning lamps, messages / adaptive cruise control, road departure mitigation, brake systems, failure lights alarming at the same time. Took to dealer cleared sensors. A matter of days alarms going off again. Call dealer they want to keep vehicle for diagnostic. When they did diagnostic it was another problem. They repair guy also mentioned not to apply e-brake. He said their is a possibility that it may completely lock. I will be taking vehicle to another dealership for 2nd opinion.

25 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/23/2024

This incident occurs daily and poses a severe risk to not only myself but other vehicles on the road, with adas systems off the 11th gen Civics seem to have a mind of its own. When traveling above 40 mph on a long curvy road/highway or raining, the steering wheel becomes "notchy" and will lock in place for moments at a time. The only way to gain control of the steering wheel is to apply extra force and once applied the steering wheel is released and causes the driver to overcorrect. I purchased my Civic 2 months ago purely for its reliability and the safety ratings given by the nhsta. Honda has initially released the service bulletin to address their faulty replacement racks stating "certain service part electric power steering (eps) gearbox assemblies were not made to proper specification. " in reality this is a lie they are trying to say the scope is less than 5% of their vehicles but the truth is that every single vehicle sold with this same rack has or will in the short future report this issue, some drivers think it is only "annoying" and some dealers are telling customers its "normal" I am completely appalled that there has not been a stop-sale issued for this as the main component of a car is the steering and if that is faulty than what else matters! they have managed to put the same rack in multiple vehicles in the last few years and you wont begin to experience the issue unless you drive (few 1,000mi on the car) longer than 45 minutes. Civic type r's are less likely to experience this as that vehicle uses a different rack (probably more $). Owners who have gotten a replacement eps system are finding the issue to reoccur after 12 months. This points to the fact that not only is this a manufacturing/quality issue but a purley failed engineering design. I have an appt with a dealer but they will replace the rack with another faulty one, Honda needs to shut everything down and put the safety of their customers first before we all end up dead or kill someone.

26 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/15/2024

While driving the car with the cruise set at any random speed, the adaptive cruise control would "cancel" and a long beep noise would sound. When attempting to "resume" cruise control, three quick beeps can be heard and the cruise control would not activate. The car has to be shut off and cranked back up for the cruise control to work again. The dealership I took it to claimed they could not recreate the issue. There are no dtc codes and no warning lights. It has been happening since I purchased the vehicle in February of 2022. The sudden cancellation of the cruise control can pose a safety issue for drivers behind me and myself.

27 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/17/2024

Steering is "notchy" and seems to stick. It is most noticable at highway speeds where small left and right movements are very difficult to make, feeling like I am fighting the steering to keep the car from wandering around in the lane. The cruise control shuts off randomly and refuses to be turned back on until the car is shut off and back on. It turns off abruptly and causes the car to suddenly start slowing down which is concerning on the interstate.

28 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/06/2024

On multiple occasions, at least 10, my automatic braking detector system has engaged when no other cars were in front of me or around me on the road. It has happened while driving in the city at slow speeds, on the highway at 70-80mph, and most recently while going up ramp to merge onto interstate. The automatic brakes will engage causing my car to slightly brake and I then have to accelerate, especially while on the interstate, to keep the car moving or else it could just stop in the middle of the road with a potential to cause a deadly accident. My cruise control no longer works either. I wonder if these issues are synonymous? my safety and the safety of others is definitely at risk with my car randomly braking with no cars in front of me or next to me. The vehicle routinely gets inspected at my Honda dealership every 6-8 months when I get my oil changed and they have not reported any issues. There have been no warnings on the car prior to these incidents happening. This car has no accidents and currently has 30,000 miles. I would estimate the car had about 28,000 miles when the last incident happened while going up the interstate ramp. The braking system malfunction started at the beginning of 2023 from my knowledge.

29 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/06/2024

Driving down the high way at about 55-60 miles an hour went to overtake a vehicle and brake system light, and flashing parking brake late came on all systems such as cruise control, lane mitigation, lane keep assist, brake assist and reduced braking performance messages came up on the dash about the foruth time this happens, had gone to the dealer before for the same issue.

30 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/22/2023

When starting my car, it struggles to start and then the emissions system light stays on, warning of engine power being affected. The car sputters when driving. The lane departure light stays on, as well as the braking system light, which warns of potential problems with braking. My safety is at risk when trying to accelerate and sputtering instead. Since the problem started today, December 22, I can’t go to the dealer until after christmas. No one else has inspected the vehicle yet. There were no other warnings, however steering did feel strange, starting a couple of days ago.

31 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/12/2023

All of the lights come on periodically (lane departure can’t be used, it says braking system error, it says braking system could be decreased and says to have car serviced) I’ve taken it to the dealership once and they could not replicate it and said it could be a sensor but wasn’t sure I paid for a inspection because they didn’t know. Searching things now there are a ton of forums with the same problem for the same model and make.

32 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2021 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/29/2023

Driving down the road sunny, dry roads, no vehicles around, car starts flashing brake and slams on break has happened 3 or 4 times. Also, diver assist warning lights keep coming on with radar obstructed. Honda please do something about this before someone gets hurt. I am a single mother and loved this car until recently. I don't have the money to pay the dealership to run diagnostics and lie and say they don't know what's wrong because they cant make it happen again.

33 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/25/2023

Steering wheel sticks while driving requiring additional pressure to manipulate the wheel. It was checked at the dealership but was not replicated. Dealer stated they knew the issue was the steering system but couldn’t replicate it so they couldn’t repair it. The front collision system alerts and applies the breaks while cruise control is set randomly with nothing around. These issues have been around for a year or so.

34 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/13/2023

I was driving on the interstate had car on cruise control set at 70mph it began to slow to 60mph because of a vehicle in front of me so I moved to the left lane to go around and the vehicle just speed up (g5 force) on its own very quickly and reached speeds up to 80mph and would have kept accelerating past 80mph had I not disengaged the cruise control instead of braking. The second issue we have found was the steering became uncontrollable. It feels like the steering wheel gets stuck and hard to control to stay in your lane. You are not relaxed to drive this vehicle. Your body tenses up just to control the steering. We took it to the dealer for the steering recall but I don't think this is the issue. It is something more serious. We refused to drive our vehicle until it is repaired. A loner vehicle was given to us as the parts for the recall will not be in until April 2024.

35 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/10/2023

Keep getting lane keeping and adaptive cruise control errors randomly as well as brake system warning lights. Took to Honda and they said my camera and radar were functioning fine and recalibrated to be sure. I’m still receiving error messages daily.
