2 Seat Belt problem of the 2020 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/23/2024

While making a slow right turn into a shopping plaza, I accidentally struck a median curb with only the driver’s side front tire. Despite the low speed and minimal impact, the passenger side front airbag deployed without cause, severely endangering my passenger. Aside from a flat tire, there was no damage to the body of the car. Fortunately, we were moving slowly enough to avoid injury, but had we been going any faster, it could have caused serious harm. After the incident, both front seatbelts locked, rendering the vehicle unsafe for both the driver and passenger. I later discovered that there are confirmed recalls affecting the passenger airbag system (specifically the front passenger seat weight sensor) for 2020 Honda Civics—my car’s exact make and model—but my VIN does not appear to be included, despite exhibiting the same failure. When I brought the car to a Honda dealership, I was told the recall did not apply and was quoted $10,000 in repairs for the srs and seatbelt systems. Rather than addressing the potential manufacturing defect, I was instead hounded to trade in the vehicle. I believe this incident reflects a serious safety malfunction tied to an existing recall and deserves investigation. My vehicle may have been improperly excluded from a recall campaign affecting others with identical equipment and model specifications.

3 Seat Belt problem of the 2013 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/04/2024

The driver seatbelt, the portion that accepts the buckle when you "buckle up" has become sloppy over time with excessive free play. This part is free to wobble around. I feel this is a passenger safety risk. The restraint and crash systems in a car work together, and with excessive ship and play in the restraint system, it could experience unexpected forces leading to an interesting or improperly restrained driver. I have spoken to two dealership service departments and neither of them actually inspected the seatbelt, I was only told it would not be replaced under warranty. I told them it is a safety issue, but they do not budge. The seatbelt was inspected by my mechanic who said the part would need replaced, saying there is excessive slop and play in the restraint system. No warning lamps or codes, airbags have never deployed, clean title. Going back to Honda dealer tomorrow to have them actually inspect the restaurant system and put in writing that they aren't willing to replace or repair it, when I went yesterday, neither of the two dealership service departments even visually inspected my seatbelt.

5 Seat Belt problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/13/2024

The seatbelt in our Civic became entangled around our child and locked. The more we tried to get her out, the tighter it became. It was so tight around her waist that it left marks. She unbuckled the seatbelt and let a little more back into the retractor, hoping it would unlock but it only got tighter. We were on vacation and had to find a hardware store to buy a socket set to disconnect the seatbelt from the frame of the car, so at this point has to drive on I-70 with a kid tangled in an unbuckled seatbelt. Once we purchased a socket set, there was plastic obstructing access to the bolt, so we had to then purchase a knife to cut away the plastic to access the bolt. All the while, our kid was tangled up tightly in the seatbelt, squeezing her abdomen. There needs to be an emergency seatbelt lock release button. Had this became tangled around her neck, she could have been seriously hurt or killed.

- sensor in seatbelt, causing airbags not to deploy (airbag light is on) -since the airbags will not deploy, this is a danger -the dealer, avalon Honda, confirmed that replacement of this part is warrantied for life by Honda. They are willing to replace it at no cost but the part has been on "critical back order" status since the problem emerged for us (November 2022). Avalon Honda has not been able to get the part (for the driver's side seatbelt) and my daughter's safety is at risk. Honda warranties this for life because it is a safety issue. That time has come and gone and I now need help to force Honda to act. -part number is 04816-s5d-a02zc.

24 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/30/2022

The center console under the radio is not equipped to hold anything like a phone or something of similar size. When accelerating, the phone or item will become unsecured and fall. In this particular incident, it caused my phone to slide backwards and undo my seatbelt while driving. A car was about to rear end me as this was happening. This is not the first time this has happened. This could be incredibly dangerous and cause a restrained driver to suddenly become unrestrained and before an accident. The center console is not large enough or secure enough to hold a phone or similar item. This is also where they would place a wireless charging pad so it is intended for your phone to sit in the center console under the radio.

26 Seat Belt problem of the 2005 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/23/2022

The air bag light came on in April of 2022 indicating that the air bag will not deploy in the event of a car accident. We took the car to the Honda dealership and the mechanic diagnosed it as a bad seat-belt tensioner and confirmed that the part is under warranty by american Honda. The dealership requested the part from american Honda and they have failed to provide the part to the dealership stating that is is not available. They have given us etas for the part but it has never arrived. We requested a rental car to drive while waiting for the part but were denied by both american Honda and the dealership. American Honda's response is that the car just should not be driven. We cannot sell the car while this light in on but need to continue to drive the car for work. The air bag light remains on and still will not deploy if an accident were to occur causing a significant safety risk. We have not involved police or insurance representatives or any other outside parties aside from american Honda and the dealership. We spoke with a representative,at american Honda today who again confirmed that they do not have the part, do not have an eta on the part and will not pay for a safe vehicle to drive. Considering the amount of time that has elapsed, they are clearly in violation of their warranty.

When removing my 4 day old infant (in her brand new car seat), I noticed the seat belt was very loose. I securely fastened her in before leaving to visit family for easter. 29 Seat Belt problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Front passenger seat belt pretensioner (Honda part #hp04814-tr3-a00za) deployed too late after a minor impact (<10 mph) causing passenger to lurch forward until seat belt engaged. The part is not available for inspection. Passenger's safety was at risk due to not being held firmly in place by the seat belt. Don't know if Honda has confirmed/reproduced this issue. Car was inspected by Honda dealership on 11/28/21. No other impact related damage or parts failure discovered by Honda during inspection. Honda replacement part (Honda part #hp04814-tr3-a00za) ordered at that time. Replacement part was backordered and did not arrive until 9/1/23. 31 Seat Belt problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/29/2021

Have a 22 Civic touring sedan. Two weeks ago two days in a row I have got a warning that there is a problem with the supplemental restraint saying it’s with the airbag or seatbelt and to shut the vehicle off and to restart and to contact a dealer if it persists. I shut the vehicle off and turn it back on and the error clears. The same thing happened last night after I got home from work and unbuckled my seat belt on 9/29/21. Others on a Honda Civic form online for this year car have reported the same problem and there doesn’t seem to be a fix yet.

32 Seat Belt problem of the 2002 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/02/2021

Srs light on for a while in Honda Civic, contacted dealer as this car was messed with by another dealership last year during light swsitch recall, so wanted only other dealership to diagnose the issue with srs but diagnosis alone is $157 and since my auto mechanic cannot read the diagnosis Honda has put or installed this restricted setting on the car. Seat belts and seat bekt sensors may be bad and seat belt cant stick on driver;s side, indicating a safety issue, transmission exhibiting trouble and revs up when shifting, hard to shift gears with automatic gear shift problems. This should not be happening and brand new engine had to be competely installed with new engine blocks, and new radiator and watter pump need due to failing.

33 Seat Belt problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/20/2021

I was sold a vehicle with no seatbelt in the middle of back seat . I had called the dealer that sold me the car to explain and they told me that why it took me this long to say something that now they think I took the buckle off myself. Very inappropriate for the manager to tell me that nonsense. I don’t sit in the back so I wouldn’t know until I had to buckle my niece in and I couldn’t because there is no buckle in my middle seat in the back. This is a safety hazard and feel very discourage to even make the report because nobody seem to want to help me!.

34 Seat Belt problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/10/2021

2008 Honda Civic lx seat belt buckle has a known defect that will not deploy airbag due to faulty micro switch. Honda has a lifetime warranty on model years prior to mine. This is a known defect. J contacted local dealer and they told me my model year warranty is 15 years 150k. The light has been on for years. I assumed it was fine till a local oil change place told me it wasnt!.

35 Seat Belt problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/13/2021

The contact owns a 2012 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the son was driving approximately 35 mph before crashing into the rear of a second vehicle. During the crash the air bags did not deploy, the message "check air bag" had displayed and the seat belt buckle had unlatched causing the driver to contact the steering wheel. The driver sustained injuries to both knees. A police report taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failures were not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 100,000. The VIN was not available.
