I own a 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid. The hybrid system recently stopped working (leaving only the underpowered gasoline engine as the means to power the car). The car was taken to the Honda dealership to fix the issue in December. They performed an irrevesible software update which has, as a result, made the hybrid system work only itermittantly. The dealer states there is no way to reverse this change. As a result, the hybrid battery/motor assist will suddenly stop working during an accelleration (for instance merging on the freeway) with a dramatic loss of power. Stepping more on the accellerator increases rpms to 4-5,000 but does not result in any significant power to the car. This has been reported to the dealer, they state they have had many similar complaints but do not have a fix. I feel this is a significant safety concern given the unpredictable nature of when the power loss occurs, and usually occurs when a driver most needs power.

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. While traveling 40 mph the contact noticed that the vehicle had suddenly shut off without and could not be restarted. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact had the eps circuit replaced, however the contact is still experiencing the failure. There were no prior warnings. Basic complaint is unpredictable loss of power when accelerating. This seems to be due to the ima system operation. Not being able to depend on consistent acceleration has drastically changed the way you have to drive vehicle to prevent crash. If you needed the ability to accelerate quickly and safely, you cannot count on this vehicle to provide it. It occurs almost daily when acceleration is needed most, turning across traffic and merging in traffic/highway on-ramps. At the start ownership of vehicle, no problems noted. Car operated great! in last 5-10k miles car has gotten worse and worse. It has had all software updates. Mpg was always 42-45. Now runs around 35 mpg.

4 Engine problem of the 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid

2008 Honda Civic Hybrid was modified according to manufacturer's voluntary recall notice 10-034. This modification involved changes to the engine control computer's software "flash" memory. Subsequently, the vehicle demonstrates insufficient power to accelerate safely into highway traffic. When parked on an incline the vehicle exhibits difficulty initiating forward motion and may roll backwards up to three feet before establishing forward progress. This behavior was not observed prior to the engine modification.

I currently own a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid. The Honda Civic Hybrid relies on the hybrid batteries (ima batteries) to power the vehicle during accelerations and on a normal basis the batteries are recharged during vehicle decelerations. The issue I am having has been going on for over a year with no support to fix the issue from Honda. The charge in my ima batteries is always 0-2 bars (I have photos showing this) which causes the vehicle to have very limited acceleration. Add the a/c being on now in the summer and the car is basically useless. Also, when the system (vehicle computer) sees that the ima batteries are low or empty it forces the engine to recharge the batteries when the vehicle is stopped ,which is not a normal operation. When the system goes into a forced recharge it commands the engine to go to a higher rpm to charge the batteries when you are stopped this in turn causes the vehicle to jump or lurch forward when you release the brake pedal. This also concerns me since you need to ensure you leave enough space between you and the car in front of you and especially leave space if you are behind a pedestrian crosswalk. I have contact all the Honda dealers in the east valley and they tell me the same story. The all agree that batteries should never be at zero and the car should not jump/lurch forward, but unless the ima light goes on in the dashboard (p07af battery deterioration code for Honda) there is nothing wrong and there is anything they can do. In summary, due to the excessive heat we have in arizona the ima batteries in the Honda Civic Hybrid to fail causing limited/low acceleration and the vehicle to jump forwards during a stop.

Own a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid. After about one year of ownership, the car started exhibiting troubling characteristics with the power management and available power. The car relies on a gas engine and electric assist to provide full power in all driving situations. During the summer when teperatures rise, the car starts to have difficulty providing power from the electric motor due to the battery crashing to 0. Once the battery "recalibrates" the car provides very little power using only the gas engine. This battery crash happens on a daily basis and means in the real world that when I am pulling out into traffic I may have very little power to get the car up to speed and risk getting hit by oncoming traffic. To say the car becomes "sluggish" is an overstatement. Honda has been unwilling to address this issue and it appears that the ar has a material defect that prevents the batteries from operating as intended in real world situations. When the air conditioner is in operation the battery will crash each time you drive the car. I feel very unsafe in this vehicle and Honda is doing nothing to address the complaints.

1. Intermittent problem with the autostop feature. When slowing to a stop, autostop engages as designed but when the car comes to a complete stop, the car shutters and the autostop disengages. 2. When driving 20 mph and below, car will frequently jerk and/or rpms will jump to 2000 and remain there until acceleration or braking.

The contact owns a 2003 Honda civic-hybrid. The contact stated that the vehicle would take approximately five seconds to shift into gear when engaged. The dealer inspected the vehicle on three occasions but was unable to diagnose the cause of failure. The contact stated that the vehicle would make an unfamiliar noise while driving 50 mph or greater. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of this failure as well. The current mileage is 45,000 and failure mileage was 10,000.
