19 Door Latch problem of the 1999 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/01/2007

I purchased a used Cr-v more than five years ago n and up until this summer have been exceptionally pleased with the vehicle. My complaint is regarding the rear door latch, which is now frozen and inoperable. Unfortunately, this situation occurred at the time the rear door was open, and took much time and muscling to even get the door latch to close. Now it is permanently frozen in the closed position, allowing me to travel, but not to use the rear door. My sister also purchased a Cr-v, after riding in mine. Interestingly enough, the exact same situation has happened to her, with a complete latch failure on the rear door. Her son, an auto mechanic, has determined the latch is completely corroded, and must be replaced.

20 Door Latch problem of the 2001 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 02/17/2005

My wife and I have a 2001 Honda Cr-v. Within the span of a few months, the door locks on all four doors malfunctioned and broke. The lock on the front passenger-side door broke in a position that prevents the passenger from being able to open the door, which is a safety concern for us. Our dealership informed us that it would cost over $300 per lock for repair. We have not yet had the front passenger-side lock fixed due to the cost, so the lock is still broken. We have also not yet had the lock on either rear door replaced, also due to the cost.

22 Door Latch problem of the 1998 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/31/2004

2 power driven door locks (passenger & driver side) on a 1998 Honda crv have both failed. The failure was the inability to enter the vehicle (driver side) or exit the vehicle (driver and passenger). Both locks needed to be replaced within 6 months (Feb - Aug '04). Additionally, the hatch lock also failed and needed replacement. Speaking with american Honda and since the mileage is 125 - 130k miles, they indicated there was nothing they could do as well as they had no recalls on the vehicles. The dealership however had indicated that there have been intermittent problems with locks requiring repair.

23 Door Latch problem of the 2000 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/12/2004

Generally, I have been satisfied with my 2000 Honda crv but, as of late, have encountered significant problems with the doors. To the point, the doors do not open, fail to latch or both. In February, I could not get the hatch door to open. I took it to a local dealer (sunnyside Honda) and they fixed the problem and charged me $125. I was having the same problem with the passenger-side front door (it would not open) and the dealer ordered parts which were installed a few weeks later. The charge was $390. 90. Now the driver-side front door is having the same problem with the latch. I cant get the car to lock and opening it is also problematic unless I pull very hard on the handle. The evidence points to the obvious conclusion that this is not a matter of routine maintenance for this vehicle. There is something defective in the door latches and locking systems of this crv. How much more must I pay to simply open and shut the doors on my car? I have already had to pay $515. 90 for the repair of 2 door handles/latches/locks. I can see another repair bill in my future as the front drivers door is almost inoperable. This presents an obvious safety problem in that getting out of the car during an emergency is very difficult. Is there some recall that I missed that addressed this problem? I hope you will agree that it is unreasonable to have 3 doors on the same 2000 car with the same mechanical problem. I request that you reimburse me for the costs so far and arrange to have the front drivers-side door repaired. All I want to do is get in/out of the vehicle. Can you help? please contact me amickley@bw. Edu; or (330) 528-0838.

24 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Door locks on 2004 Honda crv do not function as manual states. When inserting key into driver's side door, turning key clockwise, and holding, all the doors do not unlock as stated in the manual. Instead, only the driver door opens. Same problem exists on passenger side of car. Honda claims manual entry is a typo and car is designed to function that way.

25 Door Latch problem of the 1998 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/21/2003

The hatch door latch of my 98 Honda crv is broken. This has been slowly deteriorating for some time, and is now completely defective. Only the glass hatch window is holding the door shut. The vehicle/hatch door have not withstood any extreme or unusual use, nor has that part of the vehicle sustained damage in an accident. This is a safety defect that the manufacturer should investigate and repair.

26 Door Latch problem of the 1998 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/15/2003

Consumer stated the back door latch was broken. This has been slowly deteriorating for about two months. Consumer consulted mechanic and was told it would cost approximately $200. 00 since it was not on recall. The consumer believed it was a defect.

27 Door Latch problem of the 1999 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/01/2003

Rear door lock mechanism on my car rusted to the point that locks/ doors became inoperable and they do not open from inside or outside. Problem occurred in both left and right rear door. Since children ride in the back seats I think this situation is dangerous in case of an accident, significantly limiting chance to quickly leave vehicle. Door locks became difficult to operate approximately in 2001 and failed completely in 2003. I contacted Honda in fall 2003 about the problem, but Honda rep did not show any concern about the problem and did not provide any advice. I documented the problem and I can provide photos of the rusted lock mechanism. Currently the door locks operate ok after regular heavy lubrication. Car is not exposed to a extreme corrosive environment, my residence is not by ocean and car is parked in a garage most of the time.

28 Door Latch problem of the 1999 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/03/2003

Latches on three doors as well as the tailgate have locked up such that the doors either cannot be opened or cannot be closed. We had the first one fixed by the dealer for $400! and since then two others and the tailgate have slowly become problematic. This defect poses a significant problem, since if the door does not close, it cannot be driven safely.

29 Door Latch problem of the 1999 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/11/2000

Only way to unlock passenger's door is by using driver's side button. Consumer feels this is a safety concern because if in an accident and passenger was unconscious how would they get out. Consumer states passenger not able to use handle to get out of vehicle.
