Failure Date: 10/19/2018

Attempted to clean speed sensor on top of the transmission as removed as stated on the hanes manual for the car but when reinstalling a spacer not mention in the book as necessary for installation fell during removal and as result not installed resulted on the braking of the sensor while driving causing the transmission to totally fail. I am now without car due a simple book error.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2017

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. While driving 60 mph, the brake, abs, maintenance, check engine, and battery warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle stalled and the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a severe oil leak, slipping transmission, and alternator failure. The contact was informed by an independent mechanic that the oil failure caused the drive belts to slip, which caused a failure in the alternator recharging the battery as intended. The contact stated that the battery needed to be replaced due to the oil leak. The contact attempted to contact (stockton Honda, 2002 e hammer ln, stockton, CA 95210, (844) 237-1845), but was unsuccessful. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 279,000.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2015

We had this van, and three time transmission blew first time it blew at 50,000 mile, second time it blew at 70000 and third time it blew at 112000 mile, and we are not getting good response from Honda customer service. First time when it blew, I call them they said you passed the number of years so we are not going to fix it free, I end up paying from my pocket. I got new transmission form Honda, second time when it blew that time it is only 20,000 mile, when I went to dealer, they said they cover only 1 year 12,000 warranty, I end up paying from my pocket, now this third time it blew up, if I am not proper response then I need to think in future, I might go with different manufacture. Electrical panel is also not working. If Honda making this kind of car/van and this kind of customer service, then I need to think in future, I might go with different manufacture.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2015

I brought this van at 90,000 milles, I really take care of this van. The was broken the transmission at 107,000 Honda fixed, again 127,000 and I have to pay to fix it, again at 163,000 and Honda fixed, but I have to pay around 400. 00 for some extras they request, and now again at 193,000. Honda refused to fix it, then I spoke to the people in the main office in torrance and also my case was denied. I dont know any about the previous 90,000 milles because was under other owner. For sure happen before. I always fix everything on time, and really care about this van. You think it is fear to be fixing this Honda every almost 30,000 milles, not reliable, not good, piece of jonk van? this is what I recall, but most is accurate.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

Transmissions on the Odyssey have a habit of seizing up. I'm on my 3rd tranny for my 2000 oddysey. I replaced it at 112,000 miles and 150,000 miles at $3,000 a pop. It's a scandal and customers should be paid damages for the design flaws that are behind these failures.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2014

My gear started shifting while I was on the highway with my 3 small children in the car. It was one of the scariest things I've experienced. The car started slowing down and coasting then lights on the dash starting displaying followed by the car revving up but not moving. Now the gears won't shift at all.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2013

While driving I had to turn on the hazard lights because the van was installing then would drive again and then kept jerking then the van totally would not drive after 5 minutes. Need to find out if there are any recalls for the transmission because it is very expensive to try to get fix.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2013

Vehicle was on cruise control and the transmission went to high rpms, tcs and engine light came on. We just bought it and paid extra for a Honda - failed transmission at 120k ?.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

This car has a defective transmission. The first one failed at 80k, and the new replacement from Honda failed a 119k, only 39k miles later! Honda refused to warranty it or help in any way.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2013

All the motor mounts and transmission mounts need to be replaced. I've never heard of this being an issue in any other vehicle, but after doing a quick google search I discovered it is common in Odysseys. We should be able to drive our vehicles without being concerned for the stability of our engine and tranny. This just shouldn't happen.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2012

Engine light came on. Honda ran diagnostics and said transmission had to be replaced at a cost of $6,400. We did some web research and found that the transmissions in 2000 Odysseys have a long history of early malfunction. The technician at the dealer also acknowledged that these transmissions have been a problem and suggested we contact american Honda customer service for financial assistance. We contacted american Honda, but they said it is not their problem since the vehicle is outside the age portion of the warranty for this problem (8 years) despite being well inside the mileage portion of the extended warranty.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2012

Moving from stop at low speed the transmission frequently hesitates before shifting, followed by a loud thump when it does shift. At higher speeds, once in motion, there is rough shifting from 3rd to 4th gear also. Judged by me to be unsafe if driven by other family members, but ok with caution if driven carefully by me since I have been principal driver for 13 years. Vehicle was inspected 11/13/12 by Honda dealership where it has been serviced regularly since new (it is a one-owner vehicle) confirming internal slippage of the transmission with replacement recommended. Dealership voluntarily contacted Honda district manager in California for a decision on whether Honda would participate in replacement cost. Request denied.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

Left sliding door latch does not work, transmission doesn't work after 61 miles of purchase !.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2012

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while traveling 45 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home where a private mechanic inspected and confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 137,324.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2012

2000 Honda Odyssey - had trans. Replaced in 2005 with 98,000 miles on car. Now need to have transmission replaced (7 years later, 98,000 miles again). I am frustrated that I need to replace a 7 year old transmission. I have been meticulous about maintenance on this car. All service by Honda dealer. I have owned other brands of cars and never had to replace a transmission. Spoke to Honda America rep and my car repairman. Neither were able to help me to get any assistance with the cost of replacing the transmission. How disappointing. I know it is beyond the warranty from the purchase of the car. However, the 7 year replacement transmission that was done in 2005 may be defective as recognized in the 2006 class action lawsuit again Honda. However, that doesn't matter according to Honda America. I am being faced with a $4000 repair or purchasing a new car (was not planned for another year or two). Probably will not be a Honda if we go the route of purchasing a new car.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2012

The yellow check engine light is on. The vehicle jerked occasionally.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2012

This vehicle was purchased second hand in 2012 and immediately needed to have its automatic transmission replaced at a cost of $3,000. Even now there is occasional slipage of the new transmission, which indicates to me it may not be long for this world. It's painfully obvious Honda built and installed sup par transmissions for many years, despite mountains of complaints from consumers. They should be taken to task for poor design, engineering and customer support.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

When driving the vehicle for the first time, the transmission stalled when trying to shift up from first gear, then lurched forward violently. On doing some online research it appears that Honda equipped the Odyssey with substandard automatic transmissions, with a very high rate of failure. It's a safety problem as there's either not enough acceleration power when needed. . . Or too much when it does finally engage. I'm very disappointed in Honda, as their reputation over the years has been good for other models, but the Odyssey has been saddled with a very poorly manufactured, weak and prone to early failure, transmission. Repair and replacement costs are astronomical, $3,000 or more. I've been a loyal Honda customer in the past, but this has left a bitter taste in my mouth. Honda has failed its customers!.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2012

I am a licensed used vehicle salesperson. I bought this vehicle at a dealer auction Feb. 2012. Upon purchase that day, the transmission did not fail with its 11 mph shift until it got warm. We thought it was only a filter as other vehicles have had. When we got it home, we called Honda and they said this particular transmission has no way to change fluid or filter. I called Honda about a recall, they said no recalls. It would only cost me $3797 dealer cost to replace it. Since then I have found that Honda still has this problem every vehicle year up to 2012. I think if they can produce and use such a transmission, they should be forced to recall them all. Toyota recalled all their engines 2 years ago, regardless of year or mileage and they survived the recall. I am still driving this vehicle, because I don't know what to do with it. Can't afford to add this much money to this vehicle and still be able to resell it to the public.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2012

Transmission went out.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to accelerate while driving at all speeds. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure progressed until the vehicle would no longer accelerate. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact also stated that the transmission was previously replaced on two prior occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 164,776.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2011

The check engine light was on. There was no other issues. Later checked with the Honda dealer service department, I was told the transmission would need to be replaced with $4500. Checked the Honda owner link and found out there was a recall on Honda's transmission. It extended its warranty on it to 100000 miles/7 years. My car is almost 13 years. I always took my car to Honda dealer to service. I was never been told it had a recall. Read on internet about Honda Odyssey transmission, there were so many many Odyssey owners experienced the issue I have now. It was Honda's design fault. Called Honda of America and filed complain. It was rude and cold. It is true my car was almost 13 years. Told to some mechanics on this issue, they all told me about this issue common among Honda cars. I was lucky the car was not die when we were 500 miles away from home.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2011

Transmission not shifting right, lock out, car not moving. Van cannot go in reverse. Before it happened notice that when turning left, indoor lighting flickers especially obvious at night time driving. At stop it hesitate and when stepping at accelerator, the van jerks and jumps to high speed causing me to brake right away, felt a whiplash every time. Check recall ended after seven years but owner did nor receive any letter from Honda office about the recall. Try to contact Honda but told me recall ended.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2011

In a school filed trip with 5 kids in the van, after the driver came off an I-75 exit, for every stop at traffic lights, the driver experienced a strong jerking from the transmission whenever accelerating from a stop to 40 miles/hr. Everyone got scared and does not know how the transmission can suddenly behave like that.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2010

I noticed the first shifting problem when I stopped at stop sign. Now the transmission is sleeping all the time. It is very dangerous to drive this van now as the transmission can go any time and may result in major accident. This is a major safety issue. The car does not move even if you try to accelerate.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2010

2nd faulty transmission! my story echoes many others (e. G. Odi 10354768) in that my 2000 Honda Odyssey required a new transmission after 5 years/65k miles (extended mfg warranty covered that one) and now another new one after 5 more years, 60k miles (not covered by Honda; rebuilt through my personal mechanic and aamco). So frustrating, expensive, and mimicked by other Honda owners' experience. What will it take to bend Honda's mgmt to the customer's side?.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2010

2000 Honda Odyssey transmission problem in January of 2008, the check engine light came on it my van showing a transmission code. I took it to a Honda dealer because I heard of a class action lawsuit concerning their transmissions. The dealer replaced the transmission with a rebuilt transmission. My vehicle had only @53 ,000 miles on it at the time. August odf 2010, my check engine light came on again with another transmission code. My vehicle has only @84,000 miles on it. I spoke with ed voyles Honda and Honda customer service. They advised that they are doing nothing else concerning the class action settlement per their japan office. The dealer advised me that if I would have paid for a portion of the repair it would have came with a warranty. If I knew that I would have paid some towards the repair. I discovered Honda only provided a warranty on the rebuilt transmission until the class action lawsuit expired. 1999-2001 Honda transmissions had a know problem with their transmission. They but a band aid on the problem until the class action lawsuit was over. The rebuilt transmission lasted just a little less than the original transmission. The information I read shows they treated each customer differently concerning the class action suit. The service manager made sure he told me you didn't buy your vehicle from us and you don't have it service here. He was correct and I would be buying one from them either.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2010

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle would not shift into reverse and would stall sporadically when driving at various speeds. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer to diagnose the transmission where the dealer advised that the manufacturer would not cover the repairs of the transmission due to the high mileage of the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic to have the transmission rebuilt. There were repairs made to the transmission but to no avail, as the failure persisted. The contact believed that the transmission was defective. The failure mileage was 190,000.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2009

Driving home on huntington drive, 40 mph, at 5 p. M. , I pressed the accelerator but the engine just revved and I went nowhere. I pressed the accelerator again, and my van "jumped" forward. Fortunately, I was not rear-ended and the drivers allowed me to move to the right, with my emergency blinkers, now on. Also, no bikers were along side me! I stopped the car and parked. My temperature gauge was normal. I started the car, gingerly went a block when it totally died. I waited for 3 hours, aaa system had lines down for some reason, and a so. Pasadena tow truck came to the rescue. I was then towed to horizon Honda, they kept my car for 2 weeks. . . Communication with Honda and horizon to get approval for another transmission. . . Took awhile! luckily,I was 6 months or 300 miles away from the 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty, so the transmission was replaced for free! all I am asking is the same warranty on this transmission. Honda is not offering one. I will write, call, complain, etc. , until I get one! does Honda not stand behind their transmissions? I will be in need of a car soon. . .

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2008

Noticed car slipping when in 2nd and 3rd gear. Took van into dealer in June of 2008 for diagnoses. Internal failure was diagnosed and in Aug tranny went out at 120,549miles. Had Honda dealer repair issue. We were offered a discount thru customer relations. Now in 2013 with about 194,000 miles transmission is about to go. Completely unacceptable. Two transmissions go bad in 13 years. Honda needs to be held accountable for their lousy product. This was an expensive investment.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2008

Transmission trouble within 3 years of replacement by dealer.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2008

I had one transmission replaced, now my second one at 3. 5 years old is sometimes going out of reverse and into drive along with driving along in drive and all the sudden does nothing when your foot is on the gas.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2007

Transmission went out at 73000 miles. Honda replaced with a remanufactured unit only due to the class action law suit filed against them. The replacement trans was returned twice to the dealer to complain about a high pitch wine in 3rd gear. They said it was ok and did nothing. Now this reman trans has only 35000 miles and it shows a po740 code and has an engagement problem from park to drive or neutral to drive. Honda says tough luck, your on your own. Honda customer service case # n01213031500682.
