1 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2017

Like hundreds of other complaints regarding jerky and slipping transmission gears while accelerating. As in the other complaints the check engine light is showing transmission failure, the same issue is happening to 2hkrl1866yh565798 at 60k miles.

2 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2013

Vehicle has had a serious problem with the transmission. Replacement dates: October 2002 - February 2003 - April 2005 - June 2008 - presently at Honda dealership requiring a 5th transmission - it has gone only 42,000 since the 2008 transmission was installed. Honda refuses to help or see that there is a bigger issue here. I am asking that they repair the transmission at their expense. During the 2008 transmission failure, the vehicle locked up completely while on the highway, it was our good fortune to have gotten to the side of the road. Please help me.

3 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

This vehicle's transmission has failed for the second time. We replaced the transmission at a Honda dealer in July 2010 (with about 88k miles) & this transmission has failed once again, requiring it to be replaced.

4 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2013

Minivan started jerky and lost power climbing gentle slope on geary blvd in san francisco. After I frantically moved to the side to prevent being hit by a truck, the "check engine" light came on. When I had a mechanic check the vehicle, I was told the transmission had failed and needs to be replaced.

5 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2013

I was driving at 60 miles per hour on the freeway when the transmission spontaneously failed. I was unable to accelerate after that point, but was fortunately able to coast off the freeway. Had this happened 2 minutes earlier, I would have been stuck in a acute turn in the freeway without a good shoulder to pull of on, leaving me stopped in the middle of the freeway.

6 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2012

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the traction control light illuminated on the instrument panel and the transmission failed. The contact mentioned that the vehicle did not experience any problems with the transmission prior to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle had not been inspected. The failure and current mileage was 229,000.

7 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2012

I have bought my used Odyssey in January 2012 from a dealer and the transmission failed at 107,000 miles. I know there was a recall in 2004 that had the warranty up to 100,000 miles and an approved class lawsuit in 2006 that extended the warranty up to 109,000 miles. Therefore, my van is still under the warranty since its at 107,000. I strongly request that this issue is resolved as soon as possible and that Honda fixes and pays for the repair; or at least give me a call and discuss the matter. It is not possible for me to pay for the transmission entirely because I am a student and I simply cannot afford it. Thank you.

8 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2012

The transmission failed "again" rebuilt in 2008 the dealer whom maintained this car wants 5400 dollars for a rebuilt unit. This should not fail at this rate.

9 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2011

This is my 2nd transmission replacement on the car. Unlike the first one when the check engine light came on, this time we were driving on the sunol grade in fremont calif. When the transmission gave out. This could have been a very dangerous situation, but luckily I was able to move into the slow lane. I understand that this vehicle has a history of transmission problems as evident by reading reviews on the car. There has also been class action lawsuits against Honda that I would like to see if I can join in. Honda knew of this problem very early on because I still have the letter that they sent to me in the first year of ownership offering an extended warranty to every Odyssey owner regarding transmission failure. I didn't think much of the letter back in 2000 until my first tranny went out in 2006.

10 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2011

In may 2005 the transmission on this 2000 Odyssey failed and was replaced by our local dealer at no charge under the directions of service bulletin 02-062. The mileage at the time was almost 72,000 miles. We had heard that there had been transmission problems and we thought that the 2005 replacement would have solved the problem. Now, after another 68,000 miles, the replacement transmission has failed. This replacement Odyssey transmission failed after sunset at about 7:00 pm on an unlit two lane country road with little room or opportunity to park safely. My husband, who is almost 70 years old was driving and with no gears barely managed to pull over to the side of the road. It was still dangerously close to the road, but fortunately another driver stopped and helped my husband push the Odyssey a few extra feet to a slightly safer area. We were about 100 yards from a curve where approaching cars could not see us until they were almost upon us. The only protection we had was our emergency flashers. We were approximately five miles from our home in a very rural area with no close services. We had to wait on the side of the road for almost two hours for a tow truck to arrive. It was a very dangerous and frightening experience. Since we have always been meticulous in dealer recommended and provided maintenance, I have no doubt that inadequate and/or shoddy Honda replacements parts are responsible for this failure. That failure put both my husband and myself in a disturbing and perilous situation.

11 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2011

Have had 2000 Odyssey lx since 19k miles on the odometer, the transmission was replaced at 125k miles, now at 197k miles it has gone out again, my wife was on the road when the transmission failed, she was going 60 mph, it was fortunate that there was light traffic. Took it to Honda dealership and they called with an estimate to replace the tranny for $8900, trying to have us buy a new one? we dont have the income to afford a new one or a ridiculous transmission replacement. She had taken the vehicle to get serviced just the week prior, the check engine light was on, they cleared the code. Honda is trying to sweep this under the rug, I have read the other complaints and guess we are fortunate to only have had 1 replacement. My wife has talked to independent transmission shops and has heard from them the same that has been repeated in the other complaints. Building substandard components to get more of a profit with the safety of families at risk is not acceptable. How many americans must suffer at the hands of big business? building perception of what has been touted as quality, but blindsided by greed for the mighty dollar and inferior craftsmanship. .

12 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

Complete transmission failure. Electric seat does not work.

13 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2010

Original owner of a 2000 Honda Odyssey lx minivan - automatic transmission failure at 105,366 miles. Honda motor corporate refuses to provide any reimbursement towards a rebuilt transmission. A well maintained vehicle's transmission should last much longer than 105,366 miles.

14 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2010

Honda is replacing faulty transmissions with rebuilt transmissions that are just as faulty, if not more so, than the original. My 2000 Honda Odyssey is currently at the dealer waiting for its 4th transmission. After the first one failed at 62k miles, the dealer assured me that Honda had fixed the issues and that the replacement would not have the same problem. Woo hoo for Honda! they acknowledged a problem, fixed it, and took measures to address it at no cost to the customer. They scored big points with that move. . . Until the second transmission failed 57k miles later (10k miles past the 109k class action warranty extension). When I brought it back to the dealer this time, I questioned him over and over again about the quality of the transmission they were about to install. He acknowledged that some of the early replacements did still have problems, but Honda really had fixed them this time. I took his word for it, but sure enough, 38k miles later, that one failed too. How can Honda continue to get away with installing these faulty replacement transmissions? im now looking at the work order for the fourth transmission and it lists the part number as 06200-p7t-030rm warranty a/t kit. This is the exact same part number that was on the invoices for the second and third transmissions. Really? they keep telling me they've fixed the problems, but the part number stays the same and the outcome doesn't change? this is fraud. They are charging excessive amounts of money ($4,000-6,000) for a product that has proven to be faulty (just do a google search on odyssey transmission), and are intentionally putting the safety of thousands of people at risk.

15 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2010

1. Driving on interstate 250 miles from home and tcs light and check engine light came on. Tcs light went off, check engine light stayed on. 2. Took it to Honda dealership the next day for service (out of town because still 250 miles from home) and was told "transmission failure", as well as given recall notice for the transmission (1999-2001). Cost would be $5,400 and a $92 charge for the "diagnosis". Was amazed by this and service mgr waived diagnosis fee at least. Told to call american Honda for financial assistance. 3. Called american Honda with all details and was told they would not do anything further and to ask dealer to work with us (dealership told us ask american Honda for help). Acknowledged transmission problem and class-action suit, but still would not do anything. I have written a letter to american Honda detailing situation and asking for at the very least, financial assistance, in repairing transmission.

16 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2010

I have a 2000 Honda Odyssey that the transmission failed at 129000. When Honda coggin replaced at no cost we were happy. That only lasted 56000 miles however when it also failed! tired of Honda failed trans solutions, we had best transmission jacksonville FL trans shop repair 2nd transmission. It failed after 44,000! do these businesses have free reign to screw the public as they so choose?.

17 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2010

1. No significant events leading up to failure. Check engine light turned on. We are easy careful drivers. However, we found out when dealership service places "flush" the transmission fluid on cars built by Honda during this time, it flushes metal parts down to the transmission causing the transmission to fail and needing full replacement. 2. Transmission on 2000 Honda Odyssey needs to be replaced. Had we ignored engine light, we might of had car fail in the middle of the road. 3. $3000 later, getting it replaced.

18 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2010

2000 Honda Odyssey 3rd transmission failure, safety issue. I'm the original owner and purchased had the 3rd transmission installed along with the previous one) by Honda. Third transmission was installed at 135k and now at 190k it has failed and needs replacement. Dissatisfied with Honda corporation that will not stand behind and correct a well documented and known transmission failure problem. Transmission failed while wife was driving with daughter in car during traffic.

19 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2010

2000 Honda oddessy transmission failed at 85,000 miles replaced transmisson cost me almost 4 thousand dollars and 2 yrs later transmission is needs to be replaced again. 20 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2010

Transmission failure for 2000 Honda Odyssey below 100000 miles.

21 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2010

This vehicle has encountered numerous engine and transmission problems since we acquired it in 2006. The transmission failed at just over 100,000 miles. After a huge fight with Honda they reluctantly agreed (because it was just outside of the "warranty extension" for this known defect) to pay half the cost of the repair. Check engine lights continued to come on, in addition to other issues, including egr problems, despite replacing the egr, etc. The vehicle is now at approximately 165,000 miles and the transmission has failed again!!.

22 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2010

2000 Honda Odyssey transmission failure, approximately the 3rd failure since purchased in 2005 or early 2006. When the transmission fails, the van does not move at all and without warning. My wife and children were once stranded in a busy intersection when god intervened and gave her just enough power to get to the side of the road where she was towed from. January 2nd at 2am the tranny went out on highway 80 and my wife thought the engine was on fire. It was the tranny. And my 4 youngest children was with her.

23 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2009

The transmission has failed 3 times since I bought this vehicle. The first time it failed I replaced it at the dealer. The second time it failed it was replaced at a transmission shop (about 1year 3 months ago) this is the third time, I took it to 3 different shops and they all said its the transmission again. It seems that it works for 1 year and the it fails.

24 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2009

Transmission failure. Honda replaced transmission under class action extended warranty in 2009, but I had to pay $1,200. Now in October 2013, and just 46,000 miles later the transmission is failing again. Honda is refusing to help with it citing that the "vehicle is too old. " my response to them was, if the repair in 2009 was done correctly then I shouldn't be having this problem today regardless of how old or how many miles the vehicle has. Honda is washing their hands of any responsibility and any repair now is 100% mine, which unfortunately costs as much as the vehicle might be worth. That is not right that Honda teased so many customers in to thinking they were getting a solid repair under warranty only to find out it lasts just long enough so they can avoid further responsibility. Not cool Honda! our children are afraid to drive the vehicle now as they and we are concerned that the transmission could lock up on them and cause an accident. I can't say I blame them. I expected more from Honda.

25 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2009

Transmission failure on 2000 Honda Odyssey. While driving on a highway transmission started to behave erratically, shifting between gears. Check engine light ant tsc sensor lights went on. The vehicle had to be towed and the dealership confirmed "internal transmission failure".

26 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2009

I'm writing to you to inform you about the serious issue with the transmission that was originally put into Honda Odyssey's from 2000-2003. First of all I would like to introduce myself. My name is hoang pham and my family owns an automotive repair shop in arlington, va and have always been loyal customers to american Honda and their vehicles, always have recommended their product to customers looking to purchase new vehicles since we were very pleased with their products. I've always known about this issue with their transmissions and how they have according to them "known defects in materials and worksmanship. " I am writing to you now to let you know that these vehicles are potentially dangerous driving around without getting repaired and having the "updated" transmission installed, my vehicle now sits with only 79000 miles on the odometer and Honda refuses to take care of any issues, I obviously can repair this vehicle myself but find it hard to pay for something that a manufacturer acknowledges as a defect. I understand that they have had a 109,000 miles or 7 years and 9 months warranty extension on it but I believe that is not enough. People will be seriously injured or killed if this is not taken care of properly, luckily for me my transmission failed in a parking lot and not at highway speed going 60-65 miles per hour.

27 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2009

I own a 2000 Honda Odyssey minivan. My wife (51 yrs old) was driving it on rt 1 in new jersey and when the traffic light turned green the engine revved but wouldn't move and then all of a sudden it started moving. This happened 2 times. It also now shifts gears from 1st to @nd gear at 3000 rpm's. I took the van to my mechanic and he put the obdii code reader on the car and got a p1740 code which means the transmission is failed. The van has 93,000 miles on it. I called american Honda about this and they did a search on my VIN # and told me the transmission was changed ar 53,540 miles at huntington Honda in huntington, long island, NY, so the 2nd transmission only lasted 40,000miles. The dealer wants 3000. 00 dollars for a remanufactured transmission with a 1 year 12,000 miles warranty. I don't trust car dealers so I'm letting my Honda mechanic do it(he has been fixing Honda for 25 years). Reading many Honda Odyssey forums on line apparently there's a design flaw and Honda is well aware of it as your organization is probably aware as well. Just a footnote to say I take great care of my vehicles, especially the one my wife and 2 kids are riding in!!!!!.

28 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

2000 Honda Odyssey. Original owner. 149000 miles, 2nd transmission failure. Known problem Honda will not replace/ correct.

29 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2009

Another 2000 Honda Odyssey p0740 transmission failure. Honda has previously recalled known transmission defects in 2002 and 2003 models. Can't understand why 2000 models only got an warranty extension. (un)luckily, my transmission lasted long enough to pass the extended mileage limit. Honda should recall the 2000 transmissions as they did with other models.

30 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2009

2000 Honda Odyssey coil spring failure on drivers side and transmission failure.

31 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2009

My 200 Honda Odyssey lost all acceleration as I was traveling uphill. I was able to pull over after moving over two lanes of every heavy and fast traffic. The transmission completely failed. This vehicle had a new transmission put in due to failure at 109,000 miles. ,about 2 1/2 years ago. July 2007. The dealer now says that they wont cover this new transmissin. I've only put 39,000 miles on it and the original transmission had a recall of up to 100,000 miles. . Can you please help me. Ed resendes.

32 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2008

Transmission failed and left us stranded on the shoulder of the highway. Another time I had to drive on the shoulder of the highway until I could get it off the highway. Very dangerous to have an unreliable transmission on the highway.

33 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2008

I purchased a used Honda Odyssey in 2008 . Has vehicle for 4 weeks and notice the check engine light came on. Took vehicle to dealer and was told that the transmission needed to be replaced. Transmission code p0740-transmission failure. I found out later that there was a silent recall on Honda Odyssey years 1999 to 2001.

34 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2008

While traveling for work in my Honda Odyssey (2000) , my tcs light came on and I experienced "bucking" as I accelerated from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gear. The engine would also rev. My check engine light was already on from a previous problem that Honda has not resolved for 2 years. I brought my Odyssey into the service department at a Honda dealership and was informed that I had transmission failure (p0740) and an emission problem (t1457). I called Honda America and was informed that they would pay 25% of the bill and I would cover 75%. I am not satisfied since 2000 Odyssey's have a history of transmission failure. I will have the transmission replaced however felt that my safety was jeopardized during my travels as I had difficulty accelerating on major highways and throughout major cities.

35 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. After the vehicle was repaired, the check engine light and the tracking control system (tcs) light began illuminating. The check engine light remained illuminated and the tcs light illuminates when 40 mph is reached. The dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact referenced technical service bulletin numbers 0104101 (automatic transmission) and 10013844 (automatic transmission). The VIN was unknown. The current mileage was 130,000 and failure mileage was 125,000.
