Honda 2000 Odyssey lx irregular transmission failure.
For my 2000 Honda Odyssey at 62,907 mileage. Got diag. Code p0740, indicated it's transmission problem. Though got some goodwill discount from dealer, still need to pay $500 to cover the labor cost. . Heard lots of complaints from 99-04 Odyssey owners. Fear my 2nd rebuilt transmission will fail soon. To me, this is design defect. Wonder why Honda not issue a recall? please investigate.
I was driving my 2000 Honda Odyssey ex along the lombard street in san francisco when the transmission suddenly failed. I had 2 children and 3 adult passengers in the car. I stopped at the inclined road waiting for other cars in front to drive up. I then switched the gear to "2" hoping that it will be enough to drive the car. At that point, it failed to accelerate forward but instead started moving backwards even if I attempted to max the gas pedal. I tried shifting to gear "1" but still the weight was pulling us down and it crashed the car behind causing a minor damage on the exteriors of both cars. I then asked all my passengers to get off the car and somehow I was able to maneuver the car down slope. I then parked the car in the side street, turned off the engine, opened the hood and let it cool down for about 30 minutes. After that I was able to drive the car home and tried to avoid steep inclined roads. Researching the internet, I found several reports of transmission problems in Honda Odyssey minivans and my 2000 model appears to be included in the list that Honda has extended the transmission warranty to 100k miles. Is this true? was the problem in my car an indication of a failing transmission and/or a manufacturing defect? the car has 81k miles and I'm the second owner and it is already out of standard warranty. I planned to have it checked by a mechanic. I used to love this Odyssey but after this incident I'm no longer sure if I can really rely on this car. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Honda Odyssey 2000 transmission failures, 5 transmission changes in 7 years. The last time to change for a new transmission was on September 27, 2007 at 125,079 miles. The repair cost was $3,634. 05, which was outrageous and but not reimbursed by Honda corporation due to the high mileage per its management. However, for only 125,000 miles, I had to change transmission 5 times in seven years, which is very ridiculous. I believe that the transmission failure is defect of the car instead of the high mileage.
Numerous transmission failures requiring multiple replacements. The last one was less than 20000 miles, and it was discovered the latest failure would have been prevented had Honda notified transmission repair facilities to also replace a control module.
The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the transmission continuously failed. The dealer made two attempts to repair the failure but to no avail. The transmission was also replaced numerous times but the failure continued to recur. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 36,000 and the current mileage was 200,000.
I bought my 2000 Honda Odyssey brand new, at 40,000 miles in 2006 my transmission failed in an intersection that almost killed my family. Honda replaced my transmission. Then in 2009 while I was on vacation about 150 miles away from my home about 2am in the morning on a highway in PA with 80,000 miles my transmission failed again once again putting my familt in danger ! the Honda dealer in PA replaced my transmission. I was stuck in PA with my family. I had to leave my car out there for a week. Then again after Honda replace my transmission at 111,000 my transmission failed again. This is a major problem that Honda is not fixing !.
Purchased vehicle used from private party with 45,000 miles on it. Vehicle was well maintained by previous owner and I continued with all required maintenance per Honda service manual. A slight bearing growl was audible for several thousand miles before failure at 55,000 miles. Transmission began shifting hard from 1-2, and slowly on other shifts. Took vehicle to reputable transmission shop and had it rebuilt at a cost $3100. Evidently, Honda has extended its warranty to 7 years/ 100,000 miles to vehicles whose VIN # falls within the lot of those with abnormally high transmission failure rates. Since my vehicle is classified as a 'grey market', it doesn't qualify to receive extended warranty coverage. But if this vehicle had stayed in canada, Honda would've replaced it when it failed. Or if this same vehicle had spent a year/ 12,000 miles in canada before it was transferred to the u. S. , Honda would've replaced the transmission. But they won't for me due to a technicality. How's that for customer non-service! to any reasonable person this is bull#@%*! any known factory defect should be warranted no matter where the vehicle is used or how it was originally sold. If Honda seeks to claim superiority over other brands based on reliability and customer care they should stand behind their product and deal fairly with customers that have legitimate warranty claims and not hide behind some legal loophole they and other automakers probably had a hand in creating. Since this problem is an obvious safety issue, I believe there should be a recall, not just a 'selective' warranty.
2000 Honda Odyssey. Consumer writes to express continuing problem and lack of customer service from Honda motor corporation regarding multiple transmission failures the consumer stated the vehicle needs a 5th transmission.

2000 Honda Odyssey with transmission failure. Consumer states that this is the second transmission that has been replaced in her van. The warranty for a remanufactured transmission is 36,000 miles or 3 years. The engine mounts were bad and the threads to the oil pan screw were stripped.
Transmission failure: slipping and jerking during low speed after 30 minutes of driving. Sudden acceleration and down shifting around 3rd gear. Confirmed by dealership as faulty transmission assembly. Not being covered by manufacturer's extended 7 year warranty since car was originally marketed for canada despite the fact that it was originally purchased at beaverton Honda in oregon.
We have had three transmission failures with this Odyssey. Two were replaced under warranty, the last failure occurred at 50k miles, so it was not covered by the 36k warranty. It is ridiculous that a vehicle could go through three transmissions in this amount of time.
Transmission failed at 33000 miles causing the vehicle to lurch forward. Nlm.
2000 Honda Odyssey minivan's transmission failed while driving. The van was purchased in November of 1999 and has 51,200 miles on it. The van has had all the recommended maintenance. A new vehicle with all the required maintenance and proper care should not have the transmission failing already. Have talked with Honda mechanic who says that 2000 v6 Honda Odyssey van's have a known transmission problem but Honda motor company is not accepting responsibility or doing anything about it. Mechanic also stated that dallas area Honda dealerships are seeing more 2000 Honda Odysseys vans with failed transmissions. Fay oia have also researched on your NHTSA and have found many other owners who have had failed transmissions on this make and model. We want Honda to acknowledge the problem and fix the transmission and replace all 2000 v6 Honda Odyssey transmissions.
