19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2015

I was driving my van with my two kids in it when I noticed that the van was jerking frequently and there was no pick up. The rpm went to 4 and 5 thousand but the speed was not able to go beyond 50 and 60 mph. This incident occurred while I was on a freeway. When I took the van to our usual mechanic shop, they found that it was a transmission problem. Getting a new transmission was very expensive and I had to settle for a rebuilt transmission. After researching online, I found that this is a common issue with Honda Odysseys built during the year my van was built. I would like for NHTSA to ensure Honda pays for our repairs and ensures the company fixes all remaining vans on the road with this issue.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2015

I was driving down the road at 20 mph and I had to use the brakes, my car jerked suddenly twice while I was gently pushing the brakes (as if I slammed on them twice). I accelerated slowly and once I got back into second gear my car wouldn't catch and started to make a whirring noise. Once it got past second gear it drives slower than usual for the amount of rpms being used. This is a serious and dangerous problem. It's only on the second gear that it glitches up. I know this car has a lot of miles but it has a newer motor and we have kept up on the fluids for the vehicle. It should not be acting this way and I expect a recall on this promptly. Every time I drive my van it is not like it use to be. It's slower and as stated before the rpms it uses should makes its speed faster but the speed slowly increases while the rpms increase drastically and quickly. I want this fixed and I want this fixed now!! I will not allow my children in this vehicle because of the way it's acting and it is completely unsafe for anyone at this point. I will be contacting corporate if needed. I expect a response from Honda promptly.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

Based on NHTSA recall 04v-176 - transmission recall, any car below 15k miles will have a return line installed to lubricate the 2nd gear. Above 15k miles needs to be examined by the dealer for discoloration of the clutche plates inside the gear box. Honda stated that they fixed the problem with a return line, but in fact if the 2nd gear had this issue, this is not a fix, but just a work around to save repair cost for Honda. How did NHTSA approve such a temp remediation, when the transmissions are faulty. Opened up a case with Honda and I was told that if the tranny has an issues but is operational, it is not considered as faulty. How can Honda state if the car is operational, it is not faulty, in that case does Honda expect the van to break and be unoperational in the middle of the road in order to claim the issue as a recall ? my servce report from the dealer clearly states that the recall of the return line to the 2nd gear should only be done if the vehicle was below 15k miles, how was this done on my car with 40k miles and above. And how was this authorized or is it legal ? got a report from the dealer recently which clearly states the problem is with the 2nd gear not shifting to the next gear. Every Honda Odyssey owner knows the transmission problem is due to faulty transmissions and inferiror clutch plates in the 2nd and 3rd gears. I anticipate NHTSA take actions on such corporations who try to evade the systems and provide a patch/work around solutions which is not a permanent fix. Service reports will be provided if required.

23 Power Train problem

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2014

Vehicle taken to Honda dealer to address multiple safety recalls, including a recall titled, "2002-2004 Odyssey; 2003-2004 pilot automatic transmission 2nd gear", that has been left unaddressed for 11 years. The vehicle has a documented history (by the dealer and personal receipts) of being serviced multiple times during that period at the Honda dealer where the vehicle was purchased new (single owner). The recall states mechanical defects in the transmission can cause 2nd gear chipping, and, "gear failure could result in transmission lock-up, and a crash could occur without warning". I (original owner of vehicle) was unaware the Honda dealer did not address the recall until this year, when I used the Honda owner website to lookup open recalls on the vehicle. Upon learning of the open recall, and the severity of the potential issue, I immediately contacted the dealer for maintenance. On 2014-07-18, the dealer confirmed the recall had not been performed, then informed me they are unable to perform the recall. I opened a case with Honda America, who over the course of 4 weeks, first indicated that the issue I described (since owning the vehicle, shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear would "studder") was not related, therefore the recall would not be performed. I replied the recall is not conditional to the consumer experience, and must be performed. Honda America then replied the transmission had been replaced, and was not covered by the recall. After more than a week, the dealer agreed to provide the serial number of the transmission, confirming it was the original Honda part. Most recently, Honda America claims that an inspection port on the transmission has been altered, and therefore the recall is not applicable. I have 11 years of records with the dealer (exclusive provider of maintenance to the vehicle), and none indicate recall or modification performed.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2014

Started experiencing bucking and stalling. The "d" light flashed, and multiple lights came on. While driving, the unit will continue to jump, especially on the downshift. Manufacturer lists the transmission as having been replaced, but the mileage is still way low for having had two transmissions. Am looking at installing a rebuilt one. This is too short a time period. After the first round of troubles with this vehicle and the transmission, the replacement should have been bulletproof!.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2013

Looking into issues with Honda Odyssey transmissions, I believe Honda is negligent in offering any fair solution to a known problem. I think a class action lawsuit is in order. Reading hundreds of examples where transmission overheats after long trip due to restricted fluid flow. Honda is aware of the design issue and has done nothing to resolve. When you go to dealership they say it does not qualify for the recall and you need a new transmission. Going from 65mph to zero in the fast lane of a major highway with my entire family is extremely hazardess and potentially deadly. I thought Honda was supposed to be a quality product? the dealership was friendly but Honda's policy is awful case by case examination. Please someone start a class action, I had aamco rebuild mine damages are towing bills plus repairs call it $3000 in damages times the number of people who have had issues. This would be a huge opportunity any law office. I am in. When there are web sites dedicated to the issue and Honda continues to ignore it is irresponsible. . Read more...

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2013

I was driving home when I felt the vehicle hesitated, it felt as if the vehicle had a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel injecter. Later I realized that the hesitation was related to the automatic transmission shifting. I took the vehicle to Honda of conyers, paid $100 for a diagnostic and was told that the vehicle is slipping from 2nd to 3rd gear which required a transmission replacement that would cost me $5607 plus tax reman. Or 2835 rebuilt, because my vehicle was out of warranty. I called Honda manufacturer of America and was told that there is nothing that the can do to help me, was told that my vehicle was recalled in may of 2004 and the problem was repaired and that Honda does not pay for related problem after repair has been made on a recall a second time.
