Transmission Gear Indicator problems of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Odyssey. While driving 70 mph, the transmission began to slip and independently shifted into a lower gear extremely abruptly. The failure caused the vehicle to unintentionally decelerate to approximately 30 mph and the check engine and traction control warning indicators illuminated. Also, the gear indicator blinked. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The contact spoke to the dealer (troy Honda 1835 maplelawn dr, troy, mi 48084) who stated that based on the code the independent mechanic pulled, the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 240,000.

The transmission is failing, slipping. After the d on the gear indicator started flashing. While driving the car has a difficult time going into the next gear revving up to 6000 rpms its gotten so bad at times that it wont go into reverse. Honda dealers in the area are giving me the run around as to when the 2004 recall warranty is up. Apparently my car (1 previous owner) was serviced for the recall. Doesn't Honda have to help if there is this many complaints about the same make model and year? literally google 2003 Honda Odyssey transmission and the complaints are endless in the thousands. I'm a single mother of 4 and can't afford to fix this or buy a new car.

We asked that he call Honda to see if they would cover the entire transmission replacement 100%, as any company with integrity for their products should. With no apology, he said he would call them and get back to us. He then called us back to state that Honda would cover 25% of the cost only, and give the replacement a 3year/36,000 mile warranty. When we picked up the vehicle, the warranty was not in writing until we insisted on them doing so. The service department clerk hand-wrote it sloppily on the receipt and then made a computer note which he printed out. Nothing was in writing from Honda directly. Now, today, there is an oil leak after the replacement that needs to be fixed by the dealership.

Driving car on PA turnpike when engine revved and the engine light came on, the traction control light came on, and the gear indicator light blinked on and off. Car slowed down and shifted back into gear. The lights remained on. I took it to our mechanic and he instructed me to take to a Honda dealer for repair because the transmission needed to be replaced. He indicated that there should be a recall on this. I took the car to the Honda dealer and they confirmed that the transmission has to be replaced at a cost of $4,700. They mentioned a "jet kit" recall which I never heard of. They will call their district manager and find out if Honda will replace the transmission at no cost. They will get back to me in 24 hours.

I have a 2003 Honda Odyssey ex that I bought in Aug. 2003 from auto way Honda, clearwater, florida. The vehicle had a recall early this year to install a transmission jet kit. October 2004, started the car up but the gear lights would not light up, the shifter would move up and down but no gear would engage. Someone suggested at work that rocking the car would work and it did. I thought nothing of it untill 2 weeks later the same thing happened. This time I drove the vehicle to tampa Honda land, tampa florida. After a whole day at the dealorship, I was told that eveything was fine and that they could not duplicate the problem. I had no recourse but to take the vehicle back. I am afraid that the transmission might lock up or fail while the vahicle is moving, with my wife and kids in it. There are no service bulletins or any info. Available from Honda on this issue according to the dealorship. If this problem persists I am afraid I will have to lemon this vehicle.
