2 Front Seat Heater/cooler problem of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

I had the seat heater on, driver's side for approximately 30 minutes. The heater often gets extremely hot, so I did not think anything was different. However later upon examining my back in the mirror, I had a huge burn on my back that looked like I had laid down on a bbq grill. There were vertical lines where the seat heater had burned me, interrupted by sections where the cushion is upholstered, and not touching my back. The burn is approximately 12 inches long and 8 inches across.

3 Front Seat Heater/cooler problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 12/06/2010

Honda odessey 2006 heated seat problem. Heated seat over heated causing no injury but burned leather seat and smoldered while vehicle was sitting in garage. Our concern is that if this was not immediately noticed the seat could have continued to smolder, burn and eventually cause the vehicle to start on fire while parked in the attached garage of our home. I am quite surprised that there is not some sort of safety built into the seat heater that would blow a fuse and cease the flow of electricity. If there is something like this in place it has failed. When we brought the vehicle to wilde Honda in waukesha wisconsin the dealer wanted to charge us to determine the cause of the problem. I did not let them investigate becasue I felt that they should be concerned at the fact that the vehicle may cause additional problems with burning/fire. We have not used the seat heater since this incident.
