When switching gear in low speed, car often jerk . Car also jerk when switching from reverse to drive froward gear.
While driving at 25-30 mph, all of a sudden the 2 warning signs came “transmission system problem” and “blind spot info system problem. ” the “d” in the dashboard started blinking. When I put the vehicle in park at a stop light, the “p” also blinked. After a couple of minutes of this I pulled over and turned the car off. A few minutes later I restarted the engine and these warning lights have not come back in the last 5 drives. I read online that this may be a software glitch that needs updating (which I think is a manufacturer defect). I do feel like the car was a bit jumpy while these warnings were going off and I was terrified that it would put itself into park while I was driving and cause an accident.

Since 2023 around August I felt lose of power while driving but I thought its because of the gasoline I used so I didnt care much , thereafter this loss of power problem persisted since then so I took to the dealership at battison Honda at nortwest expressway in oklahoma , but they said my vehicle has no issue , but this loss of power issue was not resolved but on 1st week of February I was about to crash on road due to loss of power so took the vehicle to dealership and they said it was due to the trasmission issue and I replaced it as it passed the 5 year powertrain warranty dealership said I have to pay it full , I fight with them for 2 weeks atlast they said I have to pay 5000 dollar . So I paid the amont and they said the transmission has replaced , but still I have some hesitation while accelerate and the same issue of loss of power during acceleration happening , can you please help me to resolve this issue as its not only about money but due to safety concerns , I dont want to deal with trhat dealership anymore . Please help me during this difficult situation . Thank you .
Dash warning lights for engine code p2019 associated with the fuel injectors come on and off intermittently. Honda has said my injectors are not under recall despite other 2019 Odysseys having been recalled for this same issue. Transmission has expired hesitation in shift moving from a complete stop and acceleration.
In several occasions there is a delay in acceleration. This typically is happening when I take off from a stop sign and turning, others I have literally been on highway merging and loss all acceleration al though I can hear rpm ramp up, there is no action till 10-15 seconds later. I am very lucky no was injured in that instance and could have been a terrible accident going 70+. I see this is an ongoing issue, and because it is not consistent in manner people fail to repair/research issue.
Vehicle has hard shifting up and down. Loud clank when up shifting or down shifting at random times.
My 2018 Honda Odyssey experienced a heavy snowfall in January 2025. The control panel displayed an alarm, power tailgate problem , and the trunk door could not be opened. I asked a professional who pointed out that it is usually due to water intrusion into the control unit located on the rear driver's side body panel, which causes the tailgate to fail to open, close normally, or even open accidentally. They believe that this is a manufacturing defect caused by the manufacturer and there is a safety hazard. For safety reasons, I went to the dealer for an inspection. They said they could not find the cause but that the control panel was broken and needed to be replaced. I had to spend a lot of money to replace it. But I still think that the problem was caused by the manufacturer itself.
The vehicle has been occasionally stalling starting early 2024, maybe sooner. I had the fuel pump recall done recently. The vehicle is still stalling, and it seems to be getting worse. The stalling happens when driving at speed, even over 70+ mph. No warning lights. But rpms drop to almost zero for a few seconds and accelerator is unresponsive. Then it comes back after a few seconds. This is dangerous. Especially on busy highways.
Vehicle shudders on acceleration.

While driving on highway, 3 hours away from home, all of a sudden van slowed down and jerking and shaking with loud grinding movement sound from the van started. No warning sign displayed on the dashboard display screen and no warning alert either. Luckily got out of the exit and parked the van. Van was not going beyond first gear and jerking and shaking and making loud grinding sound. Van was not drivable safely. Towed to the local Honda dealership which was 30 miles away. Dealership checked the van and diagnosed that the 10 speed automatic transmission has failed and need a new transmission now. There is no warning sign or error on the dashboard display and any warning alert even after this incident happened. I am very disappointed that such an expensive van has no good warning sing or alert system for transmission failure, even though vehicle has computer to monitor every small thing but no good warning system for most expensive automatic transmission system. This is total lack of care and failure on the part of manufacturer Honda, which did not put some good warning system on these defective automatic transmissions. These sudden failures can cause catastrophic accidents on the highways and roads. This sudden failure of transmission should have been a recall for defective manufacturing of 10 speed automatic transmission in Honda Odyssey van.

Vehicle shifts abruptly from 1st to 2nd gear at feels like car will fall apart when that happens. It has happened multiple time throughout the time we owned the vehicle. Dealerships just does a transmission fluid replacement $230 watch time but no permanent solution. Were afraid transmission will fail in traffic.

I just had several recalls completed on my van. The issue that they couldn’t fix (which I have seen on so many message boards) my car stalls when starting from a stop. If I’m at a stop sign and press the gas nothing happens for 2-3 seconds and then it will catch and take off throwing everything in the car and the people forward. It is terrifying! I’ve had it happen with cars approaching and just been a sitting duck, thank the lord it engaged in time. This seems to be a very prevalent issue and I don’t understand why a recall hasn’t been done before someone dies. My trunk also doesn’t work automatically anymore and they said I had a leak that would be $300 to diagnose and $500 to fix. I know ther are lawsuits for both of these issues. Recalls need to be issued.
No acceleration on freeway/highway.
I was traveling on a local street around 35mph and braking for a red light. The braking felt funny in that it didn't slow the car down like normal, but it felt like the car's accelerator was still engaged. I managed to come to a stop, but the car seemed to want to move forward and I had to really stomp on the brake to keep it from moving forward. I put the car into park and the engine started revving and the car started shaking. I then turned the car off. When I turned the car back on, I was not able to shift back into drive from park. I turned the car off again. Waited about 10 seconds and started the car again. I was able to put it into drive and was able to drive home. This was normal braking for a red light, not a panic brake when I might have hit the accelerator. I also check the pedal positions and when the brake is pressed, it is about level with the accelerator, so I doubt that I was pressing both pedals at the same time. I don't have an extra floor mat and the mat I have is an oem mat that is secured down. Brought the car to a Honda service center and they could not reproduce the problem. This is certainly a safety issue if the braking and engine do not respond to the driver input.
See attached document for complaint.
Issue-1 high pressure fuel pump in the engine bay (no the fuel pump that was recalled for some vins) failed at 88000 miles. There was a loud motorcycle exhaust kind of sound coming from the engine bay , which is more audible from inside the cabin than from the engine bay itself. Took it to service center for a 1500$ replacement. Wrote to Honda customer care , but they rejected by claim and goodwill refund saying there is not recall for this item. It is example of poor quality of Honda these days especially with this 2018 nine speed model. Issue-2 major safety issue. The vehicle doesn't accelerate while moving from a complete stop or turning into a busy intersection , making us prone to big collison from oncoming traffic. The vehicle lags for 3-5 seconds before it accelerate rapidly. This is an ongoing issue with this model which Honda ignores and is a disaster waiting to happen. Nhtsa should look into this and recall all Honda 2018 9 speeed Odysseys to fix this issue. It is been 6 years and Honda comfortably ignoring this safety hazard especially for a vehicle meant for kids.
Over the course of the 38 months that we have owned the vehicle, random transmission slippage has been present on this 2019 Odyssey. I mentioned the slippage to the service advisors at the dealership when taking the vehicle in for oil changes. The technician was “not able to replicate the problem. ” the slippage was always a safety concern. The van is highly unpredictable on acceleration, making it dangerous to try to pull into traffic, for example, since the driver never knows whether the van will accelerate on demand or not. Other times, the engagement will occur gradually, causing the van to accelerate sloooooowly, despite the driver having significant throttle applied. The display now reads “transmission system problem” and will not shift out of park. I had it towed to the local auto repair shop to be diagnosed. The transmission needs replaced.
The transmission failed on two separate occasions. The first instance occurred while making a left turn when the gear shifting malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to emit a groaning noise. This happened at a speed of less than 5 mph and lasted only a couple of seconds. The second incident took place while I was waiting at a traffic light. When the light turned green, my vehicle failed to move. I immediately turned on the emergency lights, as I was the first car in the lane. More than half a dozen vehicles passed me before I turned off the engine and restarted it, which allowed me to move just before the light turned red again. This situation was risky, as I could have been rear-ended by cars behind me. This reminded me of a few unfortunate incidents in the past where I was hit from behind by other vehicles, adding to my concern about this experience.
When trying to accelerate from a stop either in an intersection or from a driveway the vehicle takes a long moment before it responds. . . Leaving my family vulnerable to cars coming from the opposite direction. I think it's the transmission but it could have to do with the fuel intake. . . It has been ongoing for months and months. The dealer has attempted to rectify but to not avail. . . . Very dangerous.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission unexpectedly shifted to park(p), and the vehicle shut off while approaching a traffic light. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, the failure recurred while driving and exiting a parking lot. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The mechanic related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 23v751000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
Transmission hesitation when turning from stop. Scary when traffic is coming. Not safe and seems to be a common, known issue. . Read more...
We have had issues with the transmission multiple times. After coming to a stop, rolling forward, and then pressing the accelerator the vehicle hesitates and won't immediately move forward. It will suddenly engage, often squealing the tires and jerk into forward motion. This puts us and others at risk because it causes a delay in pulling into traffic and has made for close calls with oncoming traffic. We took the vehicle to a local shop and they also noticed the issue with the transmission. We took the vehicle to a Honda dealership for service and while they stated that they could not duplicate the issue, there was a software update that they completed and stated that they thought it would take care of the issue. We are still having the issue and plan to take the vehicle back to the dealer for more investigation. We have not had any warning lamps or other messages. Upon researching this, there are class action lawsuits in the works related to this issue on 9 speed transmissions used in various Honda models during this timeframe. Honda has not recalled or extended warranties to cover these issues. It looks like Honda has sent technical service bulletins to nationwide dealers acknowleding the issue but has failed to find a fix for the problem. As in our case, Honda has done software updates which may mask the issue. Below it asks for the date that the incident occurred - this occurs at least weekly, sometimes more frequently.
We started hearing a metal knocking type noise on start-up and acceleration. We took it to a mechanic who diagnosed it as a rod-bearing problem. Then we took it to the Honda dealership thinking it was related to recall 23v751000 which also deals with 2018 Honda Odysseys, but for some reason our VIN was not included in that recall even though our problem sounds exactly like what is mentioned in the recall. The dealership said we are 6 months out of warranty and would therefore need a new engine. I used one costs $9,000 and a new one would be $22,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the message "engine management system failure" was displayed on the instrument panel. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal, with an abnormal clicking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that there was a failure with the engine and the transmission. The dealer was then notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN related to the engine or the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
Forward collision warning comes up on vehicle. There is a problem with the transmission. The car automatically shifts itself from d to s.

Timing belt tensioner failing with only 51k miles.
I bought new and have 59,000 miles on the car. During the past year or two, when I get to a stop sign and about to cross or turn into a busy road (that has no traffic signs for the cars traveling on that road), the car hesitates when I step on the gas pedal, then after a second or two, the car lurches forward (abruptly) while screeching the tires. My analysis is that there is something about making several complete stops in short succession (as a driver would do in an attempt to inch into a busy intersection of fast moving traffic in order to get a better view and position the car for a smoother merge) which triggers the car to stall for a second or two. I say this because it does not happen at any other types of intersections. The danger here is that a second or two is crucial in avoiding a crash when you are trying to merge into a gap in traffic. Then after hesitation, the car lunging forward in an uncontrolled manner can cause an inexperienced driver to loose control of the vehicle during a turn. There are many similar complaints filed with NHTSA and posted on online owner forums. Many owners have reported to Honda, but Honda’s response is that this is how the car is supposed to drive. Nhtsa, where are you? we need help on this.
At critical accelerating situations (turning, merging, passing. . . ) the minivan will hesitate, and no power is delivered to the wheels. As a result, the car does not perform as intended and can cause an accident when turning, merging, or attempting to pass. The only resolution is to remove any pressure from the accelerator and allow the car 1-2 seconds to recover, then you can usually accelerate slowly. Sometimes this has happened multiple times in the same accelerating event. This happens on 2018-2019 Honda Odysseys with 3. 5l v6 with zf 9hp transmissions. This has happened multiple times and Honda has failed to correct this issue. This is a known issue and has been part of a class action lawsuit. The most recent incident occured yesterday and the vehicle automatically shifted into neutral and would no long drive.
While driving down the interstate going between 55-60 mph van began to downshift and rpm’s started rising but gas pedal didn’t accelerate. Then the next day I got stranded on a highway because the van locked into neutral before I could pull into a parking lot because of traffic, then it finally went into park(we were trying to get it back in drive obviously). I was stuck blocking traffic for almost an hour with 3 kids and an infant in the car. Finally, restarting it several times worked and I was able to pull in and wait for a tow truck. This almost happened on the interstate. Someone is going to be seriously injured or worse because we almost were. Honda I supposed to be known for safety but right now, I may just switch to Toyota because apparently this issue is known and they just don’t care enough about their customers to recall and fix it.
