While backing up slowly (appx. 2 mph), the vehicle's right rear wheel made light contact with the curb. The steel steering knuckle (often called the spindle) for the rear passenger-side wheel sheered off, making it inoperable. This was witnessed by bystanders who can attest that the incident occurred at a very low speed. Three mechanics have stated that such a failure should never happen at any speed, in any situation. Nevertheless, american Honda motor CO. Will not investigate the possibility that the factory-installed knuckle was faulty and will not tell me how many other similar failures have occurred. They refuse to cover any portion of the cost of what others have classified as an unprecedented failure.
