The contact owns a 2003 Honda Odyssey. While driving 70 mph, the transmission began to slip and independently shifted into a lower gear extremely abruptly. The failure caused the vehicle to unintentionally decelerate to approximately 30 mph and the check engine and traction control warning indicators illuminated. Also, the gear indicator blinked. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The contact spoke to the dealer (troy Honda 1835 maplelawn dr, troy, mi 48084) who stated that based on the code the independent mechanic pulled, the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 240,000.

Transmission slips in 2nd gear with a slight load I. E. Going up a slight hill. If you accelerate the slipping/shudder goes away. Honda was not able to give me specific information as to the VIN numbers affected by their 2004 transmission recall but could only tell me my VIN was not one of them. There are many complaints about the second gear slipping failure when I searched online, the information I read stated that the issue was with oil flow to the second gear clutch assembly. It seems the 2004 recall should have included more VIN numbers. My vehicle has high mileage now and is outside Honda's assistance parameters but if there had been a recall maybe my transmission would not have failed.

Car stopped going into gear check engine light came on d started flashing and tcs light came on car would keep hesitating into gear and finally just would not move. Typical problem for Honda Odyssey as I just found out by class action suit and many complaints on line. But when I call Honda they say this car has never been recalled for any transmission defects. Picture that it is amazing how many problems they have had and continue to have but they do a good job keeping it quiet. This is very dangerous and I am sure expensive problem for them that is why they wont admit to any defects. Since this is costing me 3500 to get a jasper transmission with 3 year warranty. Will not buy a Honda again.
The contact owns a 2004 Honda oddyssey. The contact stated that the shift lever became very loose and as a result, it would shift gears with the slightest touch. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that there was a defective part inside the transmission and the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 96,000 and the current mileage was 101,000.

My 20 year old son was driving home alone when suddenly engine was revving but car would not shift. Since then we cannot take car over 30mph and as soon as it has been driving for more than a few minutes the transmission seems to overheat. The check engine and traction control lights come on and the gear indicator d4 starts flashing red. Although Honda put an extended warranty on the transmission for 7 yrs or 100,000 miles when I called them I was told too bad, the car is too old.
The transmission is failing, slipping. After the d on the gear indicator started flashing. While driving the car has a difficult time going into the next gear revving up to 6000 rpms its gotten so bad at times that it wont go into reverse. Honda dealers in the area are giving me the run around as to when the 2004 recall warranty is up. Apparently my car (1 previous owner) was serviced for the recall. Doesn't Honda have to help if there is this many complaints about the same make model and year? literally google 2003 Honda Odyssey transmission and the complaints are endless in the thousands. I'm a single mother of 4 and can't afford to fix this or buy a new car.
Our 2003 Honda Odyssey had a complete transmission failure when attempting to drive from a stopped position in a busy turn-lane. The engine revved when gas was applied, then the transmission light came on, an error code appeared, and the drive gear light started flashing. Somehow I was able to make the turn and park safely in a restaurant parking lot. The van was towed to mel rapton Honda. We were offered a rental car at $25 per day, our cost, which we declined. The next day we received a phone call from mel rapton Honda service department saying that our transmission needed to be replaced and that the cost to us would be $4,589. 94. We then informed him that we were aware of the Odyssey transmission class-action lawsuit for certain model years, and that the 2003 model has transmission design flaws that Honda is well aware of. We asked that he call Honda to see if they would cover the entire transmission replacement 100%, as any company with integrity for their products should. With no apology, he said he would call them and get back to us. He then called us back to state that Honda would cover 25% of the cost only, and give the replacement a 3year/36,000 mile warranty. When we picked up the vehicle, the warranty was not in writing until we insisted on them doing so. The service department clerk hand-wrote it sloppily on the receipt and then made a computer note which he printed out. Nothing was in writing from Honda directly. Now, today, there is an oil leak after the replacement that needs to be fixed by the dealership.
Driving car on PA turnpike when engine revved and the engine light came on, the traction control light came on, and the gear indicator light blinked on and off. Car slowed down and shifted back into gear. The lights remained on. I took it to our mechanic and he instructed me to take to a Honda dealer for repair because the transmission needed to be replaced. He indicated that there should be a recall on this. I took the car to the Honda dealer and they confirmed that the transmission has to be replaced at a cost of $4,700. They mentioned a "jet kit" recall which I never heard of. They will call their district manager and find out if Honda will replace the transmission at no cost. They will get back to me in 24 hours.
2002 Honda Odyssey with 65,000 miles was hesitating and the revving very high before shifting gears. In addition, the check engine light and tcs light came on along with the "d" gearshift green light was flashing. Brought it to dealer and they stated that the transmission flares on downshift to second, shifts hard, and bangs into gear. Also the front engine mount is bad. The dealer stated I need a new transmission for $4200. Called american Honda and expressed my dissatisfaction with the problem. They stated it is out of warranty but they began a case number and my case was reviewed by a case manager. American Honda has offered to pay for 50% of the repairs to maintain customer loyalty.

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Odyssey. The vehicle was repaired according to NHTSA campaign id number 04v176000 (power train:automatic transmission); however, the contact is currently experiencing the failures described in the recall. Whenever he places the vehicle into drive, the gear indicator light begins to flash while the vehicle is turned on. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current and failure mileages were 86,000.
I have a 2003 Honda Odyssey ex that I bought in Aug. 2003 from auto way Honda, clearwater, florida. The vehicle had a recall early this year to install a transmission jet kit. October 2004, started the car up but the gear lights would not light up, the shifter would move up and down but no gear would engage. Someone suggested at work that rocking the car would work and it did. I thought nothing of it untill 2 weeks later the same thing happened. This time I drove the vehicle to tampa Honda land, tampa florida. After a whole day at the dealorship, I was told that eveything was fine and that they could not duplicate the problem. I had no recourse but to take the vehicle back. I am afraid that the transmission might lock up or fail while the vahicle is moving, with my wife and kids in it. There are no service bulletins or any info. Available from Honda on this issue according to the dealorship. If this problem persists I am afraid I will have to lemon this vehicle.
While driving fourth gear indicator flashed, flowing engine. Transmission shifted slow. Dealership was unable to duplicate problem.
