Honda Odyssey owners have reported 322 problems related to vehicle speed control (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Odyssey based on all problems reported for the Odyssey.
When starting from a stop - either dead stop or coasting stop, but after applying the brake, when you start gently pressing the accelerator, nothing happens for an excessive amount of time. Likely only a second, but feels much longer when you're trying to make a left hand turn in front of oncoming traffic. The van may be barely rolling, because the brake isn't engaged, but you're only coasting with no response from the gas pedal. Then, after the short delay the engine feels like it is trying to catch up to where it should be based on the amount you've already depressed the pedal, and the van starts so fast the tires are peeling out. Our Odyssey has done this for several years. Its 100% a transmission software problem occuring when the car starts rolling from a stop and is "between" 1st and 2nd gear in an almost "neutral" state to prevent engine braking when throttle is not being applied, which would make for a not so smooth driving experience. However, this transmission obviously has really poor response times moving between these "in gear" and "neutral" states, and thus, we get the hesitation everyone has described when throttle is reapplied. The 1st gear in this transmission is extremely short. Fun fact, if you switch from automatic to standard shift mode(s) and use the shift paddles to force it to start in either 1st or 2nd gear, it's literally impossible to replicate the hesitation issue whether you're in econ mode or not. By putting it standard shift mode, you take the tcu programming that was implemented to make the overall operation of the transmission feel more smooth, completely out of the equation so that you're fully in a particular gear, no matter what your throttle position is. The 9-speed transmission in these vehicles was known to shift extremely rough between gears; this is dangerous. From Honda - "if we can't find an error code, the problem doesn't exist and hence, we can't fix it. " pls review, hopefully this will make Honda address it.

Our vehicle is only a few years old and the front camera failed. It will not do any automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, etc. Honda refuses to cover this even though it is a manufacturer defect.

On March 25th 2024 I purchased a 2006 Honda Odyssey from dfw cash cars llc 325 n riverside drive fort worth texas and the dealer gdn is p167677 the VIN number for the vehicle is 5fnrl38746b109993 when I bought the vehicle I noticed it was making a noise from the engine so I took it back to them and they said even with the warranty I don't know for sure if there was a warranty but they informed me that there was nothing that they could do because the car is already in my name the second day I called them text him and go back up there because now my engine was spitting out thick white smoke from under the hood only when I was idling then a week later I parked my vehicle at the store try to leave the store and it took me 2 hours because my gear shift would not come out of park we have also replaced the brake switch multiple times and now it feels like the brakes are completely going out the trunk never opened the handle is not even intact so then for the past month or so the vehicle starts making these loud roaring mumbling sounds like a lawn mower it will not accelerate whatsoever by the time I get through the intersection I have to hope not to get hit by other cars because the light has already changed now along with all of those issues all of a sudden I hear a wiring crackle pop kind of sound so I thought it was a tire no that is also coming from the engine and it's even louder like a horrible motorboat lawn mower motorcycle all in one and when I put the vehicle in park it gets more intense and louder and the needle in the in-dash located in the instrument cluster the one on the left moves up as if I am accelerating and the roaring sounds get louder like the entire engine is about to blow up or the car is about to explode or quit I am a single mom of five children I have not had any transportation in a year I just had a baby on April the 11th I walked my entire pregnancy until I got this vehicle and I've only had it for a few months and it is a total wreck a lemon.

We bought a used 2020 Honda Odyssey, and a few months after buying this vehicle, the infotainment screen blanked out and the vehicle information screen also blinked out. This occurred at the same time with no warning whatsoever. I just turned on the car, and none of the screens came on. These screens are the ones that show the mph, our mileage, cruise control, etc, and also the screen that shows the back up camera, in car calling, back up alert system. None of that works anymore. We made an appointment to take it to a Honda dealership and a few days later it flickered back on and so we did not keep the appointment. Just a month and a half later, it happened again and this time it has not come back on for over a month. We took it to the dealership and were charged $200 for them to tell us it was something wrong with the Honda computer system and the whole thing would need replaced and we would be charged $1800. This is on a barely 4-year-old vehicle & we did not have the money to replace a defective system. So we have been driving without a mph display. We put our phones up on the dashboard and try a gps mph app, but it is wildly inaccurate, and it is a major safety concern because we have no idea what speed we’re going and we have to guess. This is a car with low mileage and barely 4 years old!! we paid a lot of money for the back up camera, in car calling, and extra features like that specifically for the safety of those features. And now we’re being told that basically they can’t find the problem and we have to pay $1800 for those rather high-priority safety features like knowing how fast you’re going. I also have a newly licensed teenage driver and another who will get her temps in 2 months. I can’t even let them drive our vehicle because they certainly don’t have the experience necessary to drive with no speedometer. We live in a state that doesn’t allow handling a phone in any way. This vehicle helped me comply with that & now I must use a phone to show my mph.
The spool valve had a complete seal failure leaking oil onto the alternator causing the alternator to fail. As result the entire electrical system failed, shutting off all propulsion of the van. This occurred while the vehicle was in the high speed left lane on I 71 west @ the 57 mile exit. I had to coast the vehicle across two lanes of 75 mph traffic, cars and large tracker trailers. I was passed by several cars and tracker trailer while coasting across the two lanes of traffic as there was no shoulder on the left side of I-74. There were no warning lights prior to the event. American Honda motor CO. Issued service bulletin 20-023on March 5, 2020 to Honda dealers/service about the potential for the spool valve casket to leak and fail so that Honda could check for this failure and replace the defective spool valve. The service bulletin covers five (5) different models and for some models six (6) model years. The part number identified is 15810-r70-a04, front rocker arm oil control valve (spool valve). The correction action is to inspect the front rocker arm oil control valve for leaks and, if needed replace it. The possible causes are the gasket on the front rocker arm oil control valve has deteriorated or the gasket groove is out of specification. Service personnel at jeff wyler Honda, 949 burlington pike florence ky 41042, admitted to replacing this spool valve on my Honda Odyssey model several times a month. They admitted that the failure of the spool valve seal can leak oil on to the alternator causing the alternator to fail causing a complete lose of the electrical system and propulsion, seen reports of complete engine fires due to the spool valve gasket failure, noted that the the service bulletin was not attached to my vehicle VIN as did Honda of jackson 1408 u. S. Highway 45 bypass jackson TN 38305. Because America Honda motor CO. Failed to attached the service bulletin to my VIN, my vehicle was not inspected properly for this safety defect.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while at a stop sign, the accelerator pedal was applied, however, the vehicle did not move forward. The contact attempted to use the accelerator pedal several times before the vehicle moved. The contact was notified of the NHTSA campaign number: 23v858000 (fuel system, gasoline). The dealer was contacted and the contact was informed that the parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.

My vehicle problems started on February 6, 2024 while my daughter was driving back to her house. My 2016 Honda Odyssey exl started shaking violently at 55 - 60 mph. Upon towing my vehicle to have my certified mechanic to check it out, check engine light was on with codes and misfires. He determined that the variable timing valve solenoid was bad. He replaced faulty part as well as both oil pressure switches and it then came up with check engine light, as well as fcw, ldw, & anti-skid warning lights!? it also had a couple different codes. He then replace other variable timing valve solenoid on front of the engine. After taking vehicle to dealership, to get diagnosed, they suggested several repairs totaling over $3800, which none could insure that it would fix problem (2 of their suggestions were already done by my mechanic). Taking dealership suggestions, my mechanic replaced spark plugs and coil boots, adjusted valves which were fairly close, along with new valve cover gaskets. Now my vehicle runs better but has this engine knock when engine switches from eco mode to regular full cylinders. Asked dealership about checking/reprogramming control module, but they won't do it!? any suggestions??? considering purchasing bypass kit even though I will lose gas mileage.
Driving on highway suddenly multiple warnings ?? lights on (about 10) warnings lights like check engine, transmission system, power steering system brake assist ,holding brake system, line departure assistance, hill assistance, emission system, acc system, vas system, blind spot assistance and lack of power hitting gas (accelerate pedal) no response car slow down by itself becomes 20mph on 55mph highway very scary this happened four times in one month.
In early December 2023, while driving, I experienced a sudden malfunction in my lkas system, receiving a notification that it had stopped working without any prior indications. In response, I promptly pulled over, turned off the vehicle, and restarted it, hoping to clear any error messages. Unfortunately, the issue persisted. Subsequently, I took my vehicle to the Honda service center, where I was informed that the front camera was malfunctioning, triggering multiple error messages such as collision system problems, auto high beam issues, and adaptive cruise control malfunctions—all of which rendered these safety features inoperable. The service center clarified that, while it was deemed safe to drive the vehicle, the automatic braking system and front camera features were unavailable, and any necessary repairs would be at my expense. The paperwork provided indicated the discovery of dtc u3000-49, citing a multipurpose camera unit/millimeter wave radar internal electronic failure. Additionally, beyond the lkas system issue, I have repeatedly encountered difficulties with my vehicle's acceleration. Notably, there is a struggle to accelerate from a complete stop, and a significant delay in acceleration occurs when removing my foot from the gas pedal, especially in the middle of intersections. This delay has resulted in near collisions, with other vehicles honking and, at times, coming dangerously close to colliding with my vehicle. Despite reporting this ongoing acceleration problem to the dealer multiple times, the issue persists and has worsened over time. This comprehensive incident report aims to document and address the technical malfunctions in my vehicle, emphasizing the urgent need for a thorough examination and resolution of these safety concerns.
Warning messages for the following appeared: brake system lane keeping/assist system collision mitigation system problem road departure mitigation system problem auto-high beam problem adaptive cruise control problem none of these safety features now work. Our local dealership told us it was a failure of the multipurpose camera unit. The fix we are told is a $1400 part. The rear camera was just recalled by Honda and repaired within the last month. This failure should not have happened and greatly impacts the safety of the car and it is a common problem when searching Honda message boards.
1st incident fall 2023 approaching a stop sign, decelerating from 30mph I pressed on the brake to complete the stop but the engine roared, rpms revved, & the vehicle accelerated, better it lurched, forward. I mashed down the brake pedal as hard as I could but it would not stop the vehicle. All I could do was put it into park. Happens almost weekly, at least 7 times, but not predictably. Once in December, I was approaching a four way stop sign around 3:30pm, I had been driving the vehicle for approximately 30 minutes & the weather was good (no ice, partly cloudy, roads clear & dry). As I came to the stop sign, pressing the brake the final time to complete the stop, it roared loudly, the rpms jumped high, and the vehicle surged forward through the intersection. I let off the brake and tried to smash it down again, but it wouldn’t go to the floor (only a mild decompression) so I powered through the intersection, thank god no one was coming. I didn’t pull over or turn the vehicle off, I continued going my way home. 15 minutes later, turning into my driveway the brakes worked normally, like nothing had happened. Jan 5 2024 I took it to a Honda dealership. They upgraded the transmission & flushed the transmission lines three times. They were unable to replicate the issue & could not detect any codes or communication of an issue in the system. I took it home with no answers. Jan 23 2024 I was approaching a stoplight to turn left. I was driving, my brother was in the passenger seat. Weather conditions were good: clear skies, no ice/rain/snow, roads dry & clear. I had been driving the vehicle for less than 10 minutes & I had given it ~ 5 minutes to “warm up” since it’s minnesota. I met a stop sign w/o issue, but then as I approached a nearby stoplight it surged forward just like before. I pressed the brake to complete the stop, the engine roaring so loudly my brother said “it’s gonna blow up!” back to Honda dealership on Jan 31. Still no resolution. Can’t replicate.

Was driving to work while raining. Hit a water puddle hydroplaned, the stop brake warning light came, vehiical slammed on the brakes, and the steering wheel locked up. There where not other vehicals on the road. Rolled the vehical 3 times. On several occasions our Honda van has slammed on the brakes without any vehicle or obstacle present.
The battery in our van weakened and needed to be replaced. Upon replacement with brand new battery, a ton of new warnings began. These included problems with: adaptive cruise control; lane assist; collision avoidance; auto high beam, and maybe another. Doing some research online, I found that many other Odyssey owners experienced similar issues associated with battery replacement. Local Honda dealer told me the most recall repair may take care of it. It did not. Was told the internal front multipurpose camera just happened to coincidentally go out at the same time as the battery. Honda wants $1500 to replace the camera. Honda USA declined to help. In the meantime, our vehicle has none of the safety features available; and regular cruise control is not an option if the camera is not replaced. I believe Honda knows this is an issue and should be help responsible for replacing defective cameras.
The vehicle listed above with VIN 5fnrl6h73kb057719 often does not takeoff properly. When pressing the gas, it lunges forward as though it did not receive any gas to the engine or the engine stalls, or does not operate correctly. This issue has been addressed with several mechanics, and no pertinent ruling has ever been established as to why the vehicle does this.
My van has been having increasingly frequent speed control problems. When attempting to pull out from a stop, the gas pedal will become unresponsive. Then, I will press the gas pedal harder and the vehicle will burn rubber. This happens intermittently, but at least 3-4 times a week. The most dramatic example of this happened, yesterday, while I was trying to make a left turn cross two lanes of traffic with children in my vehicle. I lightly pressed the gas, rolled out into the intersection, lost gas pedal response. I pressed the pedal hard to attempt to move out of path of oncoming traffic where I was stalled. The car burned rubber, then immediately lost gas pedal response again. I had to again press the gas pedal and burn rubber a 2nd time to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. Losing all gas pedal response while oncoming traffic is approaching is terrifying. I have already attempted to have this repaired several by Honda at a dealership. They applied a software update but the problem has not resolved.
This vehicle decelerates or loses power while driving . This has happened 3x. Also vehicle is lag in accelerating from take off, my fear of getting t-boned if it stalls most recent date below. Has been taken to dealer numerous times.
I was at a stoplight on 11/16/23; when it was my turn to go (green light) I went to accelerate, and my engine seemed to sputter/choke or misfire before accelerating at a slower than normal rate and then the engine light came on -flashing- and then the traction control/vsa system indicator light came on my dashboard. I was able to make it home, but when we googled the symptoms: rough idling lack of power engine vibrating or shaking decreased fuel efficiency illuminated check engine light illuminated traction control/vsa system / vsa indicator light we saw that we could have a traffic safety issue and did not need to drive it as normal- take it to repair as soon as possible. I contacted our local express oil mechanic to see if he could read the engine codes, advise us, and possibly fix our car. He reassured me that he had been working on extensive Honda issues for over 10 years, and it sounded like a pretty simple spark plug fix. When he ran the engine check he called to tell my husband and I that it was a fix related to a recent recall put out on Honda Odyssey 2018-2019. He advised us to contact our local dealer and let them know it was the same issue as the recall. The dealership first said that the recall did not cover our vehicle, then that they didn't have the parts to fix it. I was then connected with a service advisor who said they could check the codes and should be able to fix it. My concern is that it should possibly be a recall and that it should otherwise be reported. Further, that if it becomes a recall, we've already paid to get it fixed and won't get reimbursed for it.

For over a year, when ever I press on the gas to accelarate the car stalls and this is very dangerous as it could cause an accident. It is not related to being low on gas as it happens even the the tank if full. The most recent issue happened yesterday. I was on a stop sign, and when I pressed the gas to go, the car moved forward a bit and then it stalled, leaving me on the middle of the intersection about to get hit by upcoming traffic. I was able to press the gas a couple of time and get car moving, but I was about to get him. A few weeks ago, again I had a similar situation. I was at a red light, and when I pressed on the gas, my car stall and wouldnt move, causing everyone behind me to honk their horns. I once again then to press the gas a couple of time for car to move. In addition, a few weeks ago, I was yieling to enter a highway, and when I press the gass to speed up and enter it, the car once again stall and was about to get hit by upcoming traffic. The issue is not related to gas tank, as I just recently had that replace after it suddently rip. Not sure how that happen, maybe another think to consider looking into. When I advised the dealership of such, they said stalling is normal due to type of engine. There is nothing normal of putting your life at risk. This is an accident waiting to happen.
On multiple occasions when traveling at a low rate of speed when the accelerator is pushed there is no response for up to 2-3 seconds then the car suddenly accelerates forcefully because the gas pedal has been pushed to the floor with no response. It has mostly happened when we are making a left hand turn and have slowed. Due to the seconds of delay we have been almost t boned and are hesitant to make a left hand turn if there is any traffic because we don't know if the car will immediately accelerate or if it will hesitate. We are able to reproduce it to some extent by accelerating the car to about 5-7 mph, letting off the accelerator and then reapplying pressure to the accelerator. We took the car to the dealership and they reproduced it and contacted the Honda techline who told them it is normal. It has been scary for myself and my wife and does not feel normal for the car to have a complete delay in response and then over respond.
Driving down the road and vehicle suddenly switches out of gear into neutral. Very dangerous situation. Another time we’re driving at 45mph and the vehicle suddenly starts flashing 3 error codes and decelerating. We have to continue to drive 45 mph with the car sounding terrible all the way home. Once home the vehicle somehow resets itself and all of the flashing lights turn off.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that on several occasions, while at a stop or rolling to a stop, the vehicle hesitated before accelerating and then abruptly accelerated. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and filed a complaint and referred the contact to the local dealer for a diagnostic test. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
When I start the engine, I switch the gear from parking to drive mode and give it a gas, but the gas doesn't reach the engine the way it should, then after it starts running super fast even if I barely give it a gas, the timing belt is now making a cranking noise. Dealers told me it was an engine problem inside the engine. The dealer mechanic are even very surprised why this happened and after again I took it to other mechanics, and they told me the same thing and also they told me about the recall and after I've seen a recall on Honda Odysseys with different vins, but my car has the same problem (NHTSA campaign number 23v-751). This issue is a manufacturer's issue and my car has 118,000 miles on it. I just bought it six months ago for $37,000 and it's out of warranty. I need help. All the mechanics suggested it has a manufacturing problem including the dealer mechanics, also they advise me to this page to report and get some help.
On several occasions (roughly 5 separate and unique incidents), the vehicle put itself into neutral (n) while driving. There are instances when the vehicle was in motion and others when it is at a stop. The screens in the dashboard cluster and in the center of the front dashboard go blank momentarily and the transmission changes from drive (d) to neutral (n) without any apparent cause or any warning whatsoever. The power steering is also resetting, causing the steering to momentarily become much more stiff and harder to turn. It’s currently at the dealer undergoing inspection and repair, but the fact that this is causing a safety issue that makes the vehicle undriveable while at any speed without warning is a serious safety issue.
When stopped at an intersection, waiting to turn left, vehicle sometimes will not accelerate when gas pedal is pushed. If I do a very light acceleration, then let go of the gas, then try to accelerate, it is as if the transmission is in 5 gear or something. After a 3-4 second lag, the vehicle will then seemingly find 1st gear, and will accelerate. As you can imagine this is extremely dangerous if making a left turn and cars are speeding towards me. I push the gas pedal, but the car does not move, meanwhile cars are getting closer to me, and cars behind me are honking. I have taken the car to Honda dealer three times for this issue. Each time they do something to "fix" the problem, and each time, the problem persists.
Honda odyssy 2018- while slowing down and then trying to accelerate does not accelerate and stalls in the lane and requires pumping of accelerator pedal before gear is changed. Some time when this happens you can heard grinding noise of gear change. Last time it happened it showed 'transmission system problem' and 'blind spot info system problem' on screen. This is after dealer has looked at the problem and I was told it happened when tech test drove also. Dealer had updated software but it did not fix the issue. This is a safety concern, as if you can not accelerate to maintain the speed of other cars in your lane, cars behind you can get into accident.
I have a 2019 Odyssey elite and the following lights come adaptive cruise control problem (acc); auto high-beam problem (a); road departure mitigation system problem; collision mitigation system problem; lane keeping assist problem (lkas); brake system lights. My problem is intermittent. I can make it go away most of the time by pouring water over the camera or spraying it from the windshield wipers fluid, then turning the car off and back on. That works sometimes. This makes me think it may be due to heat as the windshield (especially the black web lines around the camera) gets very hot. I also have noticed that at night or in cooler parts of the day the lights do not come on most of the time (have not kept a log of problem yet). One problem could be heat but cooling off with water does not always work. In that case, I lightly tap the camera case with a small rubber hammer (it is locate in front of my rear view mirror), turn the car off and back on, and the lights go out. Water plus tapping works and sometimes tapping alone works. This makes me theorize that the weather (heat in my case but I have seen other say it is cold due to snow) causes the cable/wiring within the camera to loosen (meaning weather [heat or cold] sensitive) cable connectors. Thus cooling with water and or light tapping fixes the problem until the next episode occurs. Who knows it could even be the windshield glass. As I said earlier, there is a black webbing type glass etching around the camera. Some say it is the battery, but I have yet to see a post where changing the battery fixed the problem. When the lights are off, all safety features (mitigation, adaptive cruise control, cruise control) work. I assume auto high beam and brakes system will work also. Forgot to add that when I turn the car off and back on, I have to press enter on the steering wheel a couple of times before the lights go off.
Once the cruise control is set, it consistently drops below the set speed and surges back up or over the set speed. Set on 62, it drops to 59 or 60, then surges back up to 62 or 63. This happens on perfectly flat roads with no traffic in front or beside the car. The dealership tried to tell me that the camera for the adaptive cruise might be seeing things in its peripheral vision area, but there is nothing there, the shoulder of the road is wide and free of obstacles. I've owned many other brands of vehicle, and never had this trouble with the cruise control on any of them. This is also a safety issue because sometimes it just randomly slows down or speeds up when there are cars behind you or beside you.

While in stop and go traffic on I-75/85 through downtown atlanta today, my 2022 Odyssey locked up. The dash indicated a battery problem and advised braking and finding a shoulder, however my engine had cut off and the vehicle would not respond when I attempted to follow the directions given. With my hazard lights on I attempted to turn off/on my engine and place the vehicle in park without success. It would not restart until I turned off the ais and put my van in park in the middle of the interstate to finally turn back on. I am a skilled driver with ample engine knowledge and even then was barely able to avoid collision because the vehicle was completely incapacitated. Honda knows this is a problem (I learned after my incident today) and need to find a remedy before someone gets killed.

Front windshield camera, controls adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure mitigation, front collision mitigation, auto high beam, all the lights came on and all the features stopped working. We were 1500 miles from home when this happened had it repaired at a dealership $1300. I called Honda corporate and after 2 days a customer service representative called me back. He told me the vehicle was 2500 miles out of warranty and it's a car and cars are going to break down. That I should drive it back home and have the dealership repair it and they might be able to help with some kind of reimbursement. I did not want to drive it that far without all the systems functioning so he said well that's on me.
There was no warning display on car today during the incidents. I pressed the breaks and with my foot on the breaks the car accelerates 3 times. I had a car in front of me which is why I stopped but no no one behind me to trigger the car to propel me forward 3 times despite my foot on the brakes. This is second time it does this. I took it in right away to the shop. The first time was a a couple of months before (may 2023) but I had a car behind me so I figured the car took over to avoid a bump in back…but again my foot was on the brakes. And I had a car in front and in back, which could have caused an accident in front. Weird acceleration all the time: when you are at a stop and try to accelerate, the car stalls and then accelerates abruptly. Very dangerous when you have drivers behind you and in front. Collision mitigation warnings keep popping up since 2022, but shop could not see the issue because the display disappears. It pops up randomly and disappears.
On the display next to the speedometer, reading the vehicle lists, the speed limit for the road you were currently driving on. The speed limit listed by the car is often wrong. When it states the speed limit is 100 mph it is obvious to the driver that it is incorrect. However, when it states the speed limit is 65 mph, but the speed limit is actually 45 mph. This causes an issue because it’s very possible that the speed limit could be 65 miles an hour. I have called Honda about the issue at the corporate level and they have stated they are not aware of any problems and I have called our local dealership who claims they are very aware of these problems and that Honda does not have any way to fix this. I am concerned for my self, as well as my children, who are not very experienced drivers and are likely to trust the speed limit stated on the display of our brand new Odyssey van. This is very dangerous especially when the error that the display makes is almost always listing a much faster speed limit than the actual speed limit is. This has been happening since we purchased the car six weeks ago. I have attached several examples of where the speed limit. The car lists is obviously wrong. If I post any where it states a plausible speed limit, it would be hard to make the same point but those are the ones I’m most concerned about.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I believed the spark plug or the condense coil has an issue with my vehicle. The engine lose power at stop when I stepped on the accelerate pedal the car takes about 2 seconds idling then speed up suddenly. I am not a mechanic. Therefore, I am not so sure. It's available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? misfire of the car can be a serious issue on the road which put the driver safety at risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? no has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no.
I am having an identical issues as described in NHTSA id number 11526094. Vehicle hesitates when accelerating from a stop. Have been almost hit a couple times as it is unpredictable when this happens. This is a dangerous behavior and I cannot in clear conscience sell this minivan to another family. I have returned it to the dealer multiple times and they were eventually able to reproduce the problem and captured the behavior on diagnostic equipment. Their finding is that when the accelerator is slightly pressed, and then release (like one might do when entering an intersection to make a left hand turn) the transmission jumps to 5th gear. When the accelerator is pressed to complete the left turn, the transmission spends several seconds shifting from 4th to 3rd to 2nd before finally accelerating. This delay opens up the opportunity to get hit. The dealer concurred that this was a problem but then contacted Honda and they said this is normal characteristic with 2018 and 2019 model Odyssey's with the 9 speed transmission. This may be a normal characteristic with this model year according to Honda but it is not acceptable behavior for any type of vehicle. It is just a matter of time before an accident will happen. It happens often and seems to be getting worse over time including irregular/rough shifts while driving. See attached documentation.
I was driving my vehicle, slowing down to turn left, when my car shifted into neutral all by itself. The satellite radio went off and the collision warning appeared on the dash. This could have happened on the highway and I could be dead. I called the markley Honda dealership here in fort collins however their service department was closed for the day. I plan on calling them first thing Monday morning. Also, the heated seat problem appeared on the dash 5 days ago and it works just fine.
The problem is with the 9 speed automatic transmission system. Yes, it is available for inspection. There is a delay in acceleration which has caused the vehicle to "stall" in dangerous situations such as pulling out onto a road with traffic, making a left turn with oncoming traffic, or needing to accelerate at a green light. There have been multiple incidents when an oncoming car has had to brake to avoid a collision because I have stalled temporarily in their lane. I have also nearly been rear ended as I stall after moving forward at a green light. The vehicle accelerates too slowly from a stop, then stalls for several seconds before over correcting and too much power causes the tires to spin and the car can get a little squirrelly if I am not extra careful. It happens often but not always and is getting worse and more frequent. There are also problems with rough shifting and delayed shifting that have been an issue since I bought it in 2018. I have taken it to the dealer many times and while the issue has been reproduced, they have never been able to identify a cause. One Honda mechanic said that his 2018 pilot acts the same way and it is "normal" for that engine. The issue was reproduced during a recent inspection from an independent mechanic who sent me to a specialty transmission shop who said the transmission was fine and suggested that it was due to a tech issue and sent me back to Honda. The mechanics at Honda have not gotten stuck in front of an oncoming car on a road test so they treat the issue as a mild annoyance. No warning lights have gone on. The severity and frequency of this problem is increasing and I no longer believe the car is safe to drive. Honda does not have a fix and I am ready to sell it but I don't think it is safe for others to drive either and I don't know what to do. It is only a matter of time until this causes an accident.
