1 Horn Assembly problem of the 2017 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 04/10/2021

While at a red light, the auto idle engine feature completely stalls the vehicle. This has happened more times that I can count at this point. Basically, if I leave the feature on, at some point in route, it will stall. Of course, I have brought it in several times to the dealership to be told that nothing is wrong with the vehicle and the computer doesn't register/read any kind of code or error. When the brake pedal is completely depressed, the vehicle shuts down, radio, lights everything. When the brake is released, it seems to try to fire up, but stalls instead. Lights are projected onto the dash saying "to start engine: brake + pedal". This does not immediately start the car. It takes several tries and lately I have found that I have to keep my foot off of the pedal and hit the start button to turn "off" the vehicle (even though it is already stalled). Then, I can start it. I am always in a busy intersection at a red light when this occurs which is frightening. It has taken up to two minutes to get it restarted and lights have turned green, horns have been blasted and I have been swerved around by oncoming (behind) vehicles.

2 Horn Assembly problem of the 2017 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 04/03/2021

This problem involves the auto-idle stop feature of my vehicle. While stopped in a long line of cars, and the brake pedal depressed, I had been moving forward slowly in this line. Each time I take my foot off the brake pedal, the engine restarts automatically, and I pull forward. Then, when I hit the brake again and stop, the engine shuts off, but usually goes into accessory mode. First, this started to malfunction and the radio, electrical system would shut down, incorrectly, then restart once I took my foot off the brake. But then, on this particular Saturday, when I took my foot off the brake one particular time. . . The car did not restart. The whole car, electrical system and everything shut down. I then tried to manually restart the car by putting the car in park, depressing the brake pedal, and pressing the start button. The car just clicked, and all the lights on the dash were flashing on and off. The car would not restart!! I tried over and over, and nothing! I had 40 + cars behind me in this line! everyone was beeping their horn and impatient. I then tried to put the car in neutral so I could try to push the car out of the way and the line. . . . But the dash warning message said the car could not be put in neutral without the car being started!! the car was dead! I couldn't move it, I couldn't turn on emergency flashers, nothing! it was a bad situation. I had to call a friend to bring jumper cables to jump start the car. But it clearly was not a battery issue. The battery was checked after I got the car started again. . . And it is fully charged! so this was clearly a problem with the auto- idle stop feature!! I did some online research and found thousands of online complaints about this exact issue! it's put many people in very dangerous situations. I reported this to Honda USA customer service. This issue needs to be addressed and a recall put in effect!.

3 Horn Assembly problem of the 2016 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 11/16/2020

When turned off, car makes clicking noises while dash indicator lights and cabin lights flicker intermittently. Often I get a keyless start system problem error message. Other times just lights and clicking noises. Also, horn sounds intermittently throughout the day while car is locked and fob is untouched. Horn begins and stops randomly. This occurs when vehicle is turned off, in both parking lots and garage. Took to dealership. They did not know what it was. It has continued for several months.

5 Horn Assembly problem of the 2016 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 04/18/2020

We own a 2016 Honda Pilot elite with auto start/stop feature. The vehicle has approximately 78,000 miles and began exhibiting issues with the auto start/stop feature. When stopped at any location, the auto stop engages and turns off the engine and should restart when you lift your foot of the brake; but it is now turning all the power to the vehicle off (radio off, a/c off, dash lights off). In some cases the dash will flicker with and dash lights will eliminate for a second. As a result you cannot move the vehicle and are stuck in a dangerous place (can't put the vehicle in neutral, no power). This has happened to us on numerous occasions; at stop lights where cars behind you get frustrated and honk their horns (takes several minutes to start back up if you are lucky) and most concerning is if you are in the middle of the intersection and about to make a right turn, while waiting to make the turn, the vehicle shuts off now we are stuck in the intersection with two kids in the vehicle. Now oncoming traffic is either fast approaching or honking because we are blocking the lane. We have been almost struck on several occasions. The only work around is to turn the auto start/stop feature off (pushing the button) when you first get in the vehicle, but if you forget we might get killed. I took it to the Honda dealer and they claim they have never heard of this issue. My battery tested fine. I located numerous Honda Pilot posts online that indicate this is a common problem, dating back to the 2016, but no one is helping the consumer. I don't understand why there is a delay in repairing this issue; it is not just a general inconvenience, it is a safety risk. We are frustrated and scared. If we trade the vehicle for another car, what happens to the next family that purchases this vehicle do they suffer the fatal outcome.

6 Horn Assembly problem of the 2017 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 02/25/2020

Car shuts down completely t a stop position and computer readout instructions are to put the car in park and then go thru initial start actions. Purchased car in Feb 2019, problem started within days of purchase. Returned it to dealer multiple times with no improvement, Feb 26th 2020 took car to dealer again due to this problem and the radio effected the last shut down time with a loud buzzing noise. Was informed they would have to keep car overnight so the valve clearance could be checked while car was cool. I have found that this problem has been ongoing for four years. It is unsafe and very nerve racking when your car dies through no failure of the driver and other impatient motorist sounding their horn because you aren't moving. One has to worry about one of those impatient drivers not paying attention to what's going on and hitting their gas pedal when the traffic light goes green and all of a sudden you are rear ended. Four years is long enough, even I realize that this problem didn't start with these cars until the introduction of the electronic computer shifting and the auto stop shut down process was introduced in these cars. This shut down of the engine has only happens on public streets and when the vehicle is stationary. Honda of gainesville, FL has an open case on my vehicle. Records are on hand if needed.

7 Horn Assembly problem of the 2016 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 02/22/2020

The remote start feature does not work. Lights do not flash when you lock the vehicle nor does the horn make a noise when you use the key fob to lock the door. Have take. It to the dealership and the replaced a module in the door saying it was not getting good signal. That part did not work.

8 Horn Assembly problem of the 2016 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 09/20/2019

I am having problems with the stop-start system of my 2016 Honda Pilot. We purchased it brand new in 2015 from a Honda dealership and were initially very happy with it's performance. It is equipped with a stop-start system which causes the car to idle when you fully step on the brakes when are at a stop but it would immediately turn back on once you release the brakes. We hardly drive this car since we only use it mainly on weekends for leisure travels with the family. It currently has approximately 33000 miles. Battery is fine. I didn't have any issues with it until maybe in the last year I've noticed it would take take longer to start after releasing the brakes to now it actually completely stalls while at a complete stop in traffic, stop sign, stop-light or when your turning in front of incoming traffic!! this has been happening more often that I now try to always remember to disable the stop-start system manually when I initially start the car. This is very dangerous since the car would completely shut down in the middle of the freeway during traffic, stop lights and stop signs and starting the car back up requires several tries. When it happens , the car makes a popping sound like it wants to start, then all the dashboard lights turns on and then the radio turns off and the car completely turns off!!. Trying to start the car back up is not immediate and requires several tries while people behind us are honking their horns like crazy to make you move. Please make sure to have this issue investigated since I noticed many people are having the same issues as me. Thank you for your time.

10 Horn Assembly problem of the 2016 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 07/10/2019

While idol at red light, the automatic idol kicked in for power save yet jerked and all red light indicators turned on, including parking breaks, and car seized up. No power, no ability put car in park or drive. On/off switch no reaction to turn car on or off. No brake function. I sat in an unresponsive vehicle at very busy intercetion. Luckily the vehicle behind me was stopped and only laid on their horn for 2 red light cycles rather than hitting me. I activated my emergency flashers yet other driver did not respond. I repetitively kept pushing power button in effort for car to respond and restart, eventually did and was able to drive off. Have appt with dealership in am.

11 Horn Assembly problem of the 2018 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 03/09/2019

On Saturday I was driving my 10 month old 2018 Honda Pilot with approx. 7,000 miles on it to airport to pick up my daughter. My husband and 3 young kids were merging onto airport property on a extremely busy afternoon, my vehicle stalled. It was like a complete electrical failure. I was left stranded at 7pm, in dark, with 3 scared children, unable to alert other hostile drivers around me by turning on flashers. After not being about to push vehicle out way of heavy traffic, I was forced to call my insurance company for assistance which proved to be a serious challenge due to the horns and derogatory language of other drivers and as a result my children having an emotional breakdown in the back seat. My husband was forced to leave the kids and I in this very dangerous situation in order to get to our 14 yr old daughter (traveling alone) off her flight. Once police arrived, they parked unit behind me in order to protect us from being hit. The police searched manual and internet and were unable to get vehicle into emergency neutral. The vehicle had to be drug onto tow truck and towed to dealership. 2 days later, Honda informed me it was a "dead battery. " "battery?" I have been driving for over 20 year and have never been left on highway, in motion due to a battery. After some reading of my own, I learned about a fuel saving feature on my car called "auto idle-stop". With this feature my engine shuts off when brake compressed in order to save on fuel. With a dead battery, the battery was unable to restart vehicle. So basically this fuel saving feature turns out to be a serious safety problem because instead of being stranded in a parking lot , I was stranded in the middle of a highway. After further reading about this feature, I learned that my vehicle should have automatically enabled this auto-idle if battery charge was low, which did not happen.

14 Horn Assembly problem of the 2014 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 04/16/2016

On April 17, 2016 at 3. 30 pm while forward parking my vehicle, I experienced a sudden uncontrolled acceleration, resulting in the vehicle impacting the wall in front of my parking spot. The wall was apx. 20 ft from the car at the time of this incident. I had my foot on the brake during the later stages of the parking maneuver and speed was minimal <5 km/h). Before coming to a standstill, the engine sprung to maximum rpm without me ever touching the accelerator. I didn't have time to control it and the brakes were also ineffective. Upon impact the driver front airbag deployed and the horn started. I switched off the engine and removed the keys. Several witnesses came forward for assistance, police, ambulance and fire department were on site. A police report was filed. This incident is very concerning; people could have been seriously injured had this happened in another location or if passersby where present.

16 Horn Assembly problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 08/08/2012

While driving, airbag, (!), vsa, vtc and brake lights all lit up. Horn stopped working as did all controls from steering wheel (cruise, radio airbag light). I pulled over, everything seemed to work but lights would not turn off. Went to Honda in ft pierce, FL. Was told it's probably a low battery. Replaced battery, lights all stayed on. Contacted johnston Honda in stuart, FL. Head mechanic told me he had no idea what would cause this and if he ran it on diagnostics, it could take 8 hours at $80 an hour and he still may not find the problem. Brought this lemon to local mechanic who ran on diagnostics for 2 hours. Could not find problem so he did not charge. As almost all other complaints above, while driving at 35 to 40 the car starts to shudder as though it will turn off. Was told it's possibly defective motor mounts. I have contacted american Honda motor works in California with these issues and they essentially told me to 'gfy'. Stated car is not their problem.

17 Horn Assembly problem of the 2004 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 01/05/2004

Alarm system (horn honking) goes off when starting the Honda Pilot (2004) ex after I click the lock button. This happens 25% of the time after I click the lock button to lock my doors while sitting in my drivers seat of the Pilot and then start the car. It is the alarm system that comes with the Pilot. The dealer says that he can not reproduce the problem. Therefore he can not fix the problem. The problem still exists.
