Wiper Problems of Honda Pilot - part 2

I received the recall remedy for my Pilot from a Honda service center per the side-view mirrors detachment recall (NHTSA campaign number: 23v174000). Although my side-mirror was working just fine, I decided to receive the recall remedy, I. E. , new side-mirrors, believing that it will improve safety of my car. However, after the Honda service center finished replacing my old side-mirrors with new side-mirrors, I realized while I was driving away from the center that the image of the new side-mirror on the driver side was very waving and distorted, which made me feel nauseous and zoned in when I looked at it. In fact, I had to keep looking at the mirror for more than a second while driving in order to clearly see what's behind my left lane. After trying to adjust myself to the new mirror for several minutes, I realized that I couldn't do it. So I had to take my car back to the service center and they explained that they received the same complaint a lot but another new mirror would have the same issue. After several back and forth between me and the staff, thankfully they replaced it with another new mirror. Although the distorted image on the mirror got better, it still bothered me while driving. As the manager at the center suggested that another new mirror replacement might be even worse than the current one, I decided to try the current one for now, and not ask for another replacement. In addition, I kept asking if I could get my original old mirror back since it was working just fine. But the center said that it is impossible due to the federal obligation they have toward NHTSA. I think quality of the recall remedy should be warranted. But, here, my situation got worse after receiving the recall remedy. I hope NHTSA will look into this issue and make sure the quality of the mirror provided by the manufacturer meets the basic customer expectation. Thank you. . Read more...

On 2 land roads especially with no other vehicles in view, the car will suddenly brake, flash the dash for emergency braking and violently shake the steering wheel back and forth and almost take it out of your hands. It was done this since new. Taken to dealer 11/15/21 for this issue, they "aligned it" and made it somewhat better but still did the braking and steering wheel shake on way home from dealer. We just put up with it as the vehicle cost so much. The dealer also replaced the windshield as it cracked within 3 months of new sitting in a parking lot. This again required another paid alignment of this system. They said windshield may have been defective buy we had to pay for it anyway, alignment was needed for avoidance system in may of 2023, the vehicle became un-drivable as it would kick the process off about every 30-50 feet. The vehicle has never been in any accident or collision of any type. So they said they aligned it gain but replaced some sensors. The vehicle still has some issues and they charged us $904 to replace some sensors even though they said they were believed they were good but could not find any other explanation, yes the vehicle has been under warranty during this entire time. Dealer and Honda spoke person stated warranty repair is discretionary on these repairs. So they will not honor their warranty either on this system.

My sunroof glass spontaneously exploded. It was not hit by an object nor were temperatures extreme. Had my inside sunroof visor not been closed, the broken glass would’ve fallen on the vehicle occupants causing injury. I received a minor glass cut will taping the glass so that the vehicle could be driven home. The issue has been reported to insurance but no inspections have yet been made nor were police reports filed. There were no warning signs prior to the glass explosion, just a loud pop as the glass began popping up and cracking. I watched it happen from outside the car. Little pieces popped up onto the roof, then a wave went through the glass, portions fell into the sunroof, and then cracks ran though the entire pane. After researching, I learned this is a known glass defect issue with certain makes and models. I am fortunate that I had just parked; if I had been driving, the glass could’ve fallen into the car inurying occupants or could’ve flown off the car and hit other cars or pedestrians.

While traveling at highway speed there was what sounded like an explosion and first thought was it was a blown tire, but upon stopping to inspect it was discovered that the sunroof had exploded, leaving a large gaping hole across it. There had been no warning signs and there was no previous known damage to sunroof. I was lucky that the sun shade had been closed at the time or there would have been the real risk of the interior passenger compartment being peppered with flying glass shards, posing a danger to all 6 occupants, including 4 minor children, and especially to the front passenger and driver sitting directly underneath the sunroof who would have been at greater risk of injury with the very real possibility of the driver losing control of the vehicle.

Front windshield wiper washer jet hood nozzle sprayer fell off and is lost. Called Honda dealer. They checked with Honda corporation and are advised that there are 1,100 of these on back order. Lead time is approximately 4 months! without this part, windshield cannot be cleaned by the windshield washer should it be urgently needed while traveling down highway. This puts safety at risk.

We drove from grand rapids, michigan to alexandria, virginia on 12/27. About 20 minutes from our destination, we exited the highway onto the parkway and as we were going about 15-18mph on an exit ramp, the closed sun roof imploded. There were no trees, bridges, or even other cars (due to it being near 10pm) nearby to cause this from falling debris. There is no impact site- just a broken roof. It was terrifying and I nearly drove off the road from the sound (my husband and 2 children 9 and 11 were also in the car. ) the only reason I did not crash the Pilot was due to the fact that I am pretty cool headed- it took us an additional 20 minutes of driving with an unknown state on the top of the roof to discover what had happened due to the fact that there was no way to exit or pull off the parkway. We validated that there was no bridge (aka no one was able to throw something off and onto to the top of the car) and the night was mostly clear. If it was an item it would have to be "part of a plane or a meteor" and no item came through or damaged the closed sun shade for the roof. We took pictures of the glass and have to have it replaced today since we are on a road trip and have to be able to drive this vehicle home before new years. It is also parked outside and we have to get the roof re-sealed before it rains. I am spending $700+ out of pocket to put a used sunroof on the Pilot to be able to get this home (which probably has the same glass defect). The shop is going to do this today and I will have them take additional photos. There were no warning lights, our car is kept in the garage at home and rarely parked outside. It has never been in hail and we do very light highway driving (it is almost entirely city driving in our day to day lives).

Inside rearview mirror(adhesive detched and air bubble is between windshield and rearview mirror) a crack had since developed exactly dead center where the rearview mirror has come detached. Problem has not been confirmed with dealer. Not yet. December 7th (when I noticed a few weeks ago, I went back into my camera roll and looked for pictures of my car and I found one where I can see the air bubble between the mirror and windshield before the crack had formed.

I got this car as a loan from a 3rd party dealer ship and they never told me it had a recall days after the airbag light pops up in the dashboard I took it to get service and they stated that the problem was fixed. The light on the dashboard was gone. A couple days ago the light came back and it makes a weird noise when you turn it on and the car gets humidity so fast the windows fog up and I have to turn the ac on. It doesn’t feel safe to drive it at times but I have to for work. I just want to make sure it’s safe to drive from la to sylmar I’m afraid if it gets to hot or humid that the airbag will go off, and I’m paying way more than I expected each month for the car and it doesn’t feel safe.

Sideview mirror on driver's side shakes/vibrates, thus causing blurry view. Noticed more during higher speeds.

On June 4, 2022, our 2021 Pilot was parked on the driveway with no one around it. It has been parked there for 2 days and the last time it was driven was on June 2. I was walking on the driveway towards our mailbox when all of a sudden the rear window exploded outward. Almost all of the glass were on the driveway and there were hardly any glass inside the vehicle. I called Honda customer service and I was told that I had to bring it to a dealer to see if it was a manufacturer's defect. However, the dealer would not be able to look at the car in a timely manner. I called my insurance and they covered the replacement glass yesterday. I researched the internet there were several similar incidents involving the rear window of Honda Pilots bursting/exploding. I am reporting this since this could be a potential driving hazard and a safety issue.

Drivers side outside mirror vibrates at highway speeds to the point that images become blurry and making distances unknown. This does not effect the passenger side outside mirror. Bought to Honda dealer and their response is this is a very common issue that the consumer must fix out of pocket if the repair is out of factory warranty.

The entire rear windshield compeltely failed on us. Last night (02/06/21) when we we turned on our new 2021 Pilot and started exiting the garage, the rear windshield forcefully exploded! the entire windshield shattered to pieces. It seemed like someone shot at our windshield but no one was outside. The windshield was never cracked before either, it was a new car! there were kids in the back and it was a huge saftey hazard. The glass pieces were everywhere. This couldve happened on the road as well but thankfully we were in the garage. This is totally unacceptable for a new car and surely there was a defect in the tampered glass developed hy Honda in the first place. We have done a previous service with Honda and Honda told us all is good. Honda must answer for this since this was a very dangerous situation and traumatizing for my kids.

The rear hatch glass and gasket blew out when the rear side door was opened then shut (in cold weather-approx. 24 degrees f). If this had happened while the vehicle was in motion, it could pose a safety concern. Believe this failure was caused by a faulty component or an assembly error at the factory. Although Honda says this failure could be due to a pre-existing rock chip, this is highly unlikely since this is not the windshield, but the rear hatch glass.

Sun visor part number 83230-tg7-a11za has failed twice now (6/24/2019 and again 9/29/2021). What happens is that the tension spring internal to the sun visor fails causing the sun visor to flop down impeding the driver's vision directly forward. We had to purchase new replacement sun visors twice. This is likely to happen again, so I'm keeping a close watch for it. This puts the safety of driver, passengers, other vehicles and pedestrians as risk as it happens suddenly. Honda has made no attempt that I am aware of to remedy the problem.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - rear view camera how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -I am unable to view if anything is obstructing my vehicle. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I will be taking it in on 9/29 for diagnosis, seeing that my VIN is not eligible for bulletin 20-051 when bulletin states " the rear view camera may not display when shifting to reverse" service bulletin 20-047 was previously done on the 25th of September. Also, at the same time the rear camera stopped working, the rear wiper also stopped working. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no, it was not. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no, I had no indication prior to failure.

Driver side mirror glass distorted and is available for inspection upon request. The driver side mirror distortion is difficult to see traffic causing a safety issue. Dealer has tried twice to repair with no final resolution. Service manager states Honda has inspected the review mirror issue.

The driver side sun visor fails to swing down. Dangerous to drive in bright sun replace commercially and mechanic said this is a common Pilot failure why is this not a recall?.

Driver side vehicle outside rear view mirror has separated from its' underlying mounting plate, while still being attached by a heating wire connected to the back surface of the mirror. Therefore it has been vibrating such that rearward visibility has been severely compromised and places both us and others at risk. It has now separated to the point that it is pulling out the wire and without tape will hang off it's housing. We have brought this issue to the attention of hertrich Honda of easton MD. As well as Honda. We are told by the dealer that this is a common issue on the Pilot and other models and that Honda has not provided a fix for the problem. In fact we are told by the dealer that there are no replacement components or mirrors available to fix the problem. Honda indicates that they are not aware of the problem. We have been addressing this problem with the dealer for over five months with no resolution. At this time the passenger side mirror is also vibrating severely but to our knowledge has not separated completely from the housing. We believe that this situation is very dangerous and seem not to be making progress in finding an acceptable resolution.

Both side mirrors on the outside of the car shake and vibrate causing images in them to be blurry and hard to see. This is a safety issue, especially at night, because you cannot see truly where the vehicle beside you is. Only until the bsm comes on can you sometimes tell a car is beside you while driving at night. Notified dealer who said there was no permanent fix as of right now. On 7/3/2021 a service advisor did a band-aid fix of double sided tape on the passenger side mirror, but it is now shaking the exact same as before that was done.

The problem is the driver's outside rearview mirror. The mirror shakes so much that it is useless at highway speed, you cannot focus on vehicles coming up on your left hand side. The dealer and Honda are aware of the problem since the beginning of 2021. That being said both allowed me to purchase the 2021 Honda Pilot in June 2021. I have been in contact with the dealer over 6 times to see if a fix has been made available? I also filed a complaint with Honda in July 2021 and got no date for a fix. I have avoided an accident on three occasions, my daughter once and my wife has had close calls. How can a dealer and Honda sell me a vehicle with a known defect and not be able to fix it?.

Front windshield broke while the vehicle was sitting in the parking lot. I was staying overnight at a hotel. When I went to bed the car was fine. When I got up the next morning the windshield was broken. The car had been parked all night and it was in a secure area. The windshield broke on its own. My insurance paid for the broken windshield.

The side-view mirror on the driver's side of the vehicle vibrates to the point of the images not being clear. The vibration gets worse with increased speed. In addition, once the mirror is set and starts vibrating it does not remain in place. This is a safety hazard as driver sets mirror and when they look to see if a car is visible in the mirror is not showing proper location. Furthermore, the vibration of the mirror makes it difficult to see the image in the mirror. This incident occurred on a test drive vehicle while looking for a car and I was told this would be fixed. I indicated I wanted a different car and the car I ended up purchasing had the same issue. When I called the service department they told me this was a known issue and Honda was working on it. The service department did replace my side-mirror with a new one but that did not fix the issue.

The windshield randomly cracked in the lower passenger side of my 2019 Honda Pilot exl while I was driving I have done research and found this to be a common occurrence in these vehicles and a safety issue.

The contact owns a 2021 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that after driving approximately 3 hours, the wind shield wiper fluid spray nozzle remained obstructed with ice and the front windshield could not be cleaned. After clearing ice from the nozzle, the failure continued to occur. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer plaza Honda located at 2722 nostrand Ave, brooklyn, NY 11210 was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 4,800.

The driver side and passenger side sun visors hinge mechanism does not operate properly. The visors do not fold up completely and are difficult to fold down to block sunlight. This is a known problem with Honda Pilot sun visors. I purchased my 2019 Honda Pilot new.

While driving along the highway, sunroof exploded. Small pieces of glass pieces went flying everywhere.

When I was backing my car, I saw a white car approaching from my rear end camera but there was no sound or warning sound as usual. I stopped my car until the car passed by. Then I started backing slowly without seeing any car moving or approaching. Suddenly I saw an old dark green Honda crv car on my rear back camera came from nowhere with high speed and no warning or sound. I pressed my brake immediately. I did not feel any pulse or collision. When I drove home and found a small damage on my car rear bumper. I filed an accident report m0153386 in washington state.

When I started the car, put my car into reverse mode as I was moving out (backward) the rear view camera screen will go black and will not display after the error "network communication lost" on the screen. It takes at least a minute to two until it restart, sometimes more than 10 mins or it restart and go black again. Another multiply times, same error happened, and everything went black, the center infosystem and the drivier information screen. (see picture) the gps was lost, so I am not sure if I am still on the right path, I have no idea how fast I am going, or if any of the driving assistance are still active. I. E. Cruise control, lane departure warning/assistance, speed meter tires pressures if any other warnings. All these started happening in around middle of June. Now, this error is happening everyday, every drive, I have went to dealer service center to have them check and fix the error. They said they reset the system and should not see this error anymore, but I am still seeing this error even after they service the car. I went back to have it services at least 3 times already, they told me they did some wiring, reset the console and it shouldn't happen again, but still seeing this problem as of today.

Tl-the contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. While his spouse was driving 65-70 mph there was an abnormal rattling noise detected. The contact stated the sunroof shattered without warning or impact. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000. Ap.

After placing the gear shifter in reverse, from a stationary position, the reverse camera has stopped working, which keeps the driver from being able to safely see obstacles (pedestrians) when backing up. This safety feature is especially important in taller vehicles, like this Honda Pilot, as they don't allow you to see smaller people who's heads fall below the window line, which could result in an injury or fatality. After researching online, it appears many other 2nd generation Honda Pilot owners have complained of the same issue, which is a result of moisture getting into the camera unit itself.

While on the 605n freeway close to the 10 freewaysplit our entire sunroof which the glass and cover ditached from our vehicle and flew off. Luckily the car behind was not hit from what I see in the recording but we can't see if it flew on the other side of the freeway. My children were seating in the middle row and small debri hit their face. We pulled over to the emergency side of the freeway to check damage. All that's left from the sunroof is the glue.

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the front driver side sun visor would not remain in the up position causing a visibility hazard to the driver. The contact indicated that a plastic part used to secure the visor in the up position had cracked causing the failure. The local dealer Honda of pasadena located at 1965 e foothill blvd, pasadena, CA 91107 and the manufacturer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 55,000. On 11/09/19 at or around 800pm pst, my rear hatch window exploded from side to side causing a spider-web pattern. Nothing touched the window. However, approx one hour prior to this event I did activate the rear window defroster for only 5 minutes. Stevens creek Honda in san jose, CA advised this broken window was not covered under warranty. I then called my insurance company. As a note, the Honda dealership parts dept said the back window was back-ordered and no eta as to when a back window would or could be shipped. Now, I am dealing with.

At 800 pm pst in northern calif, my back window exploded, causing a spider-web pattern. The car was parked and I heard a rolling/cascading crunching sound. I did not realize what happened or what caused that sound until the following morning. After seeing the damage, I taped it up and called my insurance. Stevens creek Honda advised it was not under warranty.
