7 Wiring problem of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 02/02/2021

Backup camera failed due to wiring harness being located on a bend point. When you open the tailgate you can see the exposed wires that bend when opened. This happened after I opened the tailgate on an extremely cold day (-10f). It looks like this failed due to repeated openings of the tailgate. When the tailgate is closed the wire harness is loose but when it is opened the harness is stressed by part of the tailgate. Upon troubling shooting the issue online I found multiple people are having the same issue. There also seems to be TSB for working harnesses but nothing if yours has already broken. . Read more...

Failure Date: 03/26/2020

The wiring harness (Honda part #32109-t6z-aoo) between the lift gate and the truck bed for the backup camera is subject to premature failure. My 2018 Ridgeline backup camera quit, and when I did research on the Ridgeline blogs, I found this is a very common problem. The harness itself is surprisingly wimpy for a Honda product. I had mine replaced by my Honda dealer, but my guess is virtually every Ridgeline will experience this failure eventually. I've tried to attach photos of the harness, as well as the email I received from Honda customer service.

16 Wiring problem of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 02/16/2020

While backing up, the rear camera would go black, often when the truck bumped over the entrance to the street. Now the camera quit completely. A mushroom heat clamp to secure the cable to the body appeared damaged, possibly due to a wiring inspection from a previous recall?.

18 Wiring problem of the 2018 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 04/06/2019

Two way tailgate back up camera wiring broke after only 7000 miles due to poor design, per lia Honda representative. This wire harness supplies back up camera viewing. After 7000 miles I was unable to see what was behind vehicle when backing up. Wires broke due to under engineered harness material. As tailgate can be open in 2 way, up/down and as a swinging out door, harness is not strong enough to endure sure repetitive motion. Dealer informed me that they are seeing many harnesses being replaced and there is now a back order of replacement harnesses. The newly installed harness is the same part number as new. It was and is not an updated camera wire harness. In conclusion this harness will also fail in the future.

Failure Date: 08/20/2018

The wiring harness for the blower motor melted behind the center lower dash area at a connection point. The vehicle had just been started and the a/c would not come on. 25 Wiring problem of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 04/21/2017

I bought a 2017 Honda Ridgeline in September. The vehicle currently has few than 2000 miles. I started it up the other day and received a dashboard warning about a gas-gauge malfunction. I didn't think much of it. I got two blocks from my home and the power steering stopped working. Within a minute I received warnings about traction control and abs malfunctions. The car then stalled. The vehicle restarted and I started home and it stalled again in the middle of an intersection. It was very un-nerving. I had the car towed to babylon Honda located in west babylon, NY. They called me a few days later and informed me that a rodent had eaten the wiring harness. I was looking at over $1800 in damages not covered by the warranty. A mechanic friend of mine told me about an issue with Honda's involving rodents and their electrical harnesses. He sent me an article from nbc news reporting on the issue. Honda is now coating the harness with a soy based covering. It attracts rodents. My truck now has a new "edible" soy-based wiring harness. Many Honda owners are complaining that their vehicle end up back at the dealership for yet another harness. This seems to put the driver's at risk of an accident or fire. Honda claims they don't have an issue. Some Honda owners have had luck using an "anti-rodent tape" which wraps around the harness. Interestingly enough the tape is sold by Honda an is an actual Honda part. My dealer wouldn't put it on. I want to know if I'm safe in my truck. Here's a link to the nbc article. I've also attached a copy. . Read more...

26 Wiring problem of the 2006 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 08/29/2016

Hvac motor stopped working. Looked it up online and found recall for hvac wiring harness was issued . I purchased vehicle on 7/22/2011 (used) recall said Honda would replace bad parts and install a cover to prevent passenger from kicking blower motor. There is no such cover. Local Honda dealer says truck was serviced on 6/20/2011 by previous owner and all recalled parts replaced. I do not believe this truck was repaired at all even though they say it was and if it was why is there no cover? now the same parts recalled have failed again and I do not think it is right that I have to pay them $500 to repair it.

27 Wiring problem of the 2008 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Ridgeline. 32 Wiring problem of the 2006 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 10/19/2014

When I first bought this vehicle I had a problem with it at 41,000 miles. The fan motor dial would not turn on correctly. I could be driving then if I hit a bump in the road the fan motor would turn on. Now you have to play with it until it turns on to it won't work at all. I think it may have something to do with the wiring because my inside lights don't work right as well. Map light one side works and the other doesn't. I replaced parts and it still doesn't work.

33 Wiring problem of the 2008 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 07/09/2014

Driving onto highway with a/c and heard crackling/sputtering and then blower quit. Took to dealer and the service dept determined that wiring connector from under hood fuse/relay box led to a melted connector behind console instrument panel to the left of the steering colum. Lucky it did not cause fire. Visited ridgline owners site and found it was not an isolated issue and was reported by several others. .

34 Wiring problem of the 2008 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 02/21/2014

Over the course of 2 weeks we would turn the dial for the heat and it would kick in and blow warm air and then it would stop. We took it to inver grove Honda to get it fixed and they replaced the blower. It actually worked for about a week, then stopped again . . . Completely. . . On a day that it was -20 degrees with wind chill. They now have told us that the wiring for that unit is melted and the entire wire harness needs to be replaced. This is running us around $1800. The mechanic told my husband this isn't the first time he's seen this. We then researched further to find the problem all over the internet. . Read more...

35 Wiring problem of the 2008 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 12/18/2013

I drive my 2008 Ridgeline on a daily basis. In the morning of the 18th of December my heat and air worked fine. Later in the evening I went to go out and my fan/heat/air would not work. I changed a few fuses but still got nothing. I took the truck to my dealer where I get all of my repairs and maintenance done. They stated it was more than likely a relay since the motor was working properly. I received a call today that the problem is a wiring harness that melted and then she tells me its a 9 hour job to replace and costs over 600. 00 dollars. Well it looks like the 2006,and 2007 Ridgelines have the same problem and I think Honda needs to be persuaded to include the 2008 models before someone gets hurt. I have read online that this is not an uncommon problem and has happened to several other 2008's around the u. S. Thanks.
