When stopping with the auto idle stop system engaged, the vehicle failed to auto restart after letting off the brake pedal. This has happened three times with the last two occurrence less than a week apart. The first two times I was in a queue at a stop light and was able to shift into park and manually restart the car and proceed on the road without further incident. The third time in particular I observed that the manual start did not work on the first attempt but did on the second attempt. There were no warning indicators or messages prior to the auto restart failure. There is some risk of safety when a vehicle remains unexpectedly stopped in the road while surrounding traffic is moving. I plan to take the vehicle to the dealer for evaluation.

Multiple failures of the auto start stop system to restart the vehicle. This has happened several times in an intersection creating a safety hazard.
After coming to a stop and the idle stop feature engages, the vehicle does not automatically restart. I am presented with a message that says "system problem detected. Shift to park". After shifting to park, I am presented with another message that says ""to continue to drive, depress the brake pedal and push switch. " I then have to completely shut off the engine by pushing the "stop button". Then, I have to do a full restart before the vehicle starts again. This has happened 5 times in the last month. Here is a video of one incident - [xxx]. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while stopping at a red light, the auto start feature failed to restart the vehicle, and the vehicle started rolling backwards. The brake pedal was depressed, and the push to start button was depressed, and the vehicle was restarted. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,200.
On two occasions, immediately after re-fueling the vehicle, the engine auto idle stop failed to restart the vehicle. Both times this happened at busy intersections. A series of messages appeared on the display. I was flustered because cars behind me were honking as I was blocking traffic so I don’t exactly remember the error messages. One message said to put the transmission in park. Another said to hold the brake and the engine start button. Eventually the engine did re-start by holding the start button down.
While sitting in traffic with my 2025 Honda Ridgeline, with the engine stopped as the brake had been fully applied, when I released pressure off the brake, my vehicle would not restart as it normally would in this situation, thereby stranding me in a serious traffic situation. I notified the police and my vehicle was eventually towed to the nearest Honda dealer to try to determine what the issue was . Scary situation since my vehicle only has approximately 25k miles on it.
Car just shut off while I was driving. There was no power. It would not start. At first it sounded like it wanted to start and then it just made no sound at all. The brake was hard as well. I put the hazards on but was in the fast lane on cleveland avenue in fort myers. I believe there are traffic cameras that will show the car sitting while cars were trying to get through the traffic light. The car finally started however I have no idea why it happened. We could have been killed sitting in the fast lane of a three lane road. There were three of us in the car.
Start stop has failed to restart engine on several occasions.
This has happened for the last 2. 5 years and has happened between 5 and 10 times. While stopped at a traffic light the auto-stop feature activates. When the light changes and I attempt to move, the vehicle enters "cuts off" and the dash board directs me to shift to park or to step on the brake to restart the engine. It take multiple attempts but then it switches to accessory mode after which it generally starts. - two pictures have been included. The one at night was in [xxx] and the other during the day, was taken on the corner of [xxx] and [xxx] in [xxx]. I also have a short video clip of the [xxx] incident which occurred about two days before the [xxx] incident. Once this begins I put on my hazards to direct other vehicles to drive around. I have reported it to the dealer. The dealer assured me it was the battery and they tested the battery but the battery was fine. The issue is similar to other 2023 and is covered by TSB 23-008/23-010 (video link: [xxx] ) information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I own a 2024 Honda Ridgeline trailsport. The automatic idle is continuously draining the battery, making it hard for the truck to start. I have purchased 2 batteries since may 2024, when I purchased the truck. It appears that there is something wrong with the automatic idle on the truck, but Honda tells me there is nothing wrong. When activated, the automatic idle will shut down the vehicle in traffic, causing a very dangerous situation because the battery does not have enough power to start the vehicle whenit stalls.
The contact owns a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle with the push-to-start feature, the vehicle failed to start. No warning light was illuminated. Additionally, while idling in traffic, the vehicle lost automotive power and failed to accelerate as intended while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was restarted as a temporary fix. Upon further inspection, the contact became aware of an abnormal electrical burning odor entering the cabin of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed; however, no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
When stopped in heavy traffic, the auto idle engaged. I got a "system problem detected. Shift to park. " warning. When I shifted to park the vehicle experienced a total electrical blackout, including a loss of hazard lights. It took several minutes for the modules to reboot. This happened 3 times in 20 minutes as I attempted to find a safe place to pull over. My life was put in danger because it was dark, raining heavily, and my hazard lights were inoperative. It happened a few hours after I bought the car at the dealership. I am waiting for a tow truck now. It is available for inspection.
The auto stop start shuts off and does not always restart. While in traffic at a light multiple times it has shut off and not restarted . I have to turn off the vehicle and put it in park and restart the vehicle!.
Auto idle stop fails to restart the engine quickly, causing delays or stalling resulting in a delayed response, hesitation, or the vehicle stalling completely in the middle of traffic, leaving me stranded until jump-start or fully cycle the ignition.
Windows and moon roof on 2024 Honda Ridgeline opens when parked. Lock button on key fob is supposed to be pressed twice to activate this feature but opens when fob is on desk or in my pocket. No damage yet but could cause problems for theft or rain damage if parked outside when unattended.
My 2021 Honda Ridgeline sport experienced failure of the forward-facing Honda sensing camera system. This camera controls safety features including collision mitigation braking, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. The failure disables safety assistance features. Honda acknowledged the issue but refused to provide full repair coverage and only offered $941 toward a repair costing significantly more. I believe a safety-related camera failure should be investigated as a potential defect.

Bcm module failure. Keyless entry error. Vehicle dashboard lit up with many errors. Car alarm went on and off. Car will not start . Disconnect battery toe reset. Drove home and the car doesn’t want to stop running or idling. Disconnect battery till it turns off.
Driving approximately 15mph on a gravel road in my subdivision I noticed smoke or steam coming from under the hood. The time was approximately 30 am on June 4,2026 the 2023 Honda Ridgeline with 41,000 miles was immediately stopped and put in park. I exited the vehicle and started to open the hood and fire streamed out from the front of the vehicle. I backed up and went to the rear door and retrieved my dog from the back seat. The vehicle is a total loss as the fire spread incredibly fast. I’m lucky to be alive today. There were no warnings or messages.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?: the auto start stop feature failed, resulting in the vehicle lurching then dieing without any prior indication. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?: the vehicle's lurch and sudden loss of power occurred at a red light when turning left. If I were the first car in line, it would have left me in the intersection with a 65 mph speed limit, creating the potential for a significant accident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?: no it has not, but was taken to a dealer in the last two weeks for this problem, in which all systems were operating as intended. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others?: yes it has where the problem could not be identified. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear?: no warning lamp or messages were displayed prior to this safety incident. This is the third occurrence, I made another report on xxx. If needed, I can find the report number vehicle failed to restart in 5 attempts, on the 6th attempt, the vehicle started but took an extended amount of time compared to normal. Video link immediately after the incident, the service advisor suggested I film this if it were to happen again. : [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. My car alarm randomly goes off. With no user interaction, the dashboard lights will flicker and I hear clicking noises from the dashboard. Then the alarm triggers randomly. I have to manually use the key fob to turn the alarm off. Honda has acknowledged this issue with service bulletin 21-055. This has caused my car battery to die and I was left stranded. Honda has failed to put a warranty extension or recall for this item.

My wife and I had decided to empty our storage unit, so on memorial day we began moving everything into the garage. After five or six trips Honda, I pulled the car up beside the RV and close to the house for what turned out to be the last load. I unloaded my bicycle and nearly everything else, leaving only a few small items, and then removed the massage table from the back seat. The engine was off this entire time. That was when I noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment. At first, I thought the radiator had overheated, so I tried to open the hood, but it was too hot. I went into the garage for gloves and a fire extinguisher and tried again, but still could not get it open. Realizing the situation was getting worse and that I could not stop it there, I jumped into the car and tried to start it. To my surprise, it started immediately, and I drove it as fast as I could out to the street in front of the house. Only later did I realize that this likely saved my RV—and possibly the front of my house as well—from catching fire. We were so blessed that I was able to move the car to a safer location and no one was hurt. It was a miracle.

On two separate instances in the past month, I have come to a complete stop, and the engine automatically shuts off. Upon restarting it either failed to restart the engine or on this last occurence turned the engine over once, made the car lurch and took a few seconds for the engine to idle, almost as if the engine wasn't fully started and the starting motor kicked off as well as turned over slowly. The vehicle has 24,000miles and the batery is approximatley 15 months old and oem.
Over the past several months, the auto idle stop on my 2025 new Honda Ridgeline has been acting up, not always kicking off timely when lifting my foot off the gas pedal. It also completely failed to restart twice, disabling the car completely while at a traffic light until I could restart it. The first incident was late last year. The most recent one this past Thursday.
Similar to NHTSA case #11713532 and 11657197. The idle stop system (ais) does not always restart causing safety risk. I have been stranded multiple times now where the Ridgeline shuts off while waiting to turn on a highway and then will not restart. Today the dash lights would go out as if the battery was completely dead. I just had this in a few weeks ago for the same issue and the dealership replaced the battery. This was only a temporary fix. It is sitting at the dealership now and they are working with Honda. Please help.
While stopped in heavy traffic at a traffic signal, the engine stopped and would not restart. This was due to the ais system. The car became disabled in heavy traffic. I was only a few feet from the entrance to a gas station, however due to the interlock system that locks the transmission in park, the truck could not be pushed out of traffic. Honda, unlike other manufacturers the use the same transmission, does not supply an emergency over ride to get the transmission out of park ( hazard). After a few minutes of sitting in heavy traffic and nearly. Wing hit by fast moving cars, the engine did restart. This is not the first time this has happened. The dealership is over 100 miles drive to have to checked (r/t).
The contact owns a 2023 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while driving or while stopped at a stop light, the auto idle stop system activated, and the vehicle hesitated to respond. The message "auto idle stop temporarily unavailable" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000.
Auto idle stop not working. By default it should be on and driver must actively turn it off. Mine does not/not come on. This problem appears different from the numerous other problems reported with the auto idle stop but it still is a problem and indicates the system may have a number of related defects and that its may be just be a metter of time until I experience other more serious problems.

The auto high beam is widely known to be so bad it behaves the opposite of how it should. It frequently blinds other drivers when it should not turn high beams on, often blinding them in the last few seconds before passing, causing a dangerous situation, not to mention the possibility of drivers thinking it was done on purpose maliciously. This has led to near road rage experiences. The high beams also rarely turn on when they should but at least there is a manual override.
The infotainment system failed intermittently two times prior, causing failure of the backup camera and cross traffic warning sensor system. The entire system failed a month ago and Honda has no idea when they can get parts.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. A diagnostic test revealed codes for the catalytic converter efficiency below threshold bank 2, and bank 2 air-fuel ratio imbalance. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, and the dealer referenced NHTSA id number: 10187289 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
I had the backup camera harness recall performed on my 2018 Honda Ridgeline on 09/06/2023 by Honda of escondido , CA. (see attached invoice of recall work performed. ) on 01/27/2026, the backup camera failed to appear on the dash screen when the vehicle was in reverse. I restarted the vehicle and the camera view was still not visible on the screen. I drove home and parked the vehicle in my garage. I turned the ignition off and then on again and put the car in reverse with the brake applied. This time the camera view was displayed on the dash screen. Appears to be an intermittent problem. (see attached two pictures of rear camera view not projected to the dash screen and one picture of my vehicle"s mileage, 50,518 miles. ).

Engine wiring harness. Safety recall denied to me. Nhtsa #16v888000 safety issue details are in the safety recall. Vsa braking can malfunction causing accident. Honda ran diagnostic . Problem with 3rd party delphi wiring harnesses . I have the exact problem as the safety recall confirmed by the Honda service department. Yes there was the exact warning lamps associated with the safety recall I had to pay out of pocket and have tried to resolve with Honda corporate VIN specific is a game they play and they have a history of undercutting their issues and warranties to get out of fixing their manufacturing errors. I can give you plenty of examples.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda Ridgeline. The contact had received notification of an unknown recall regarding the auto start/stop feature. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the contact was advised that the vehicle could not be repaired. The battery on the vehicle was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue; however, no assistance was provided. The contact had not experienced a failure.
The vehicle’s engine and powertrain management system repeatedly fails with multiple dtc's triggering a full-system cascade of safety-critical warnings and automatic power-limiting. The issue affects the engine, transmission, emissions, awd, brake system, stability assist, steering assist, abs/vsa, hill-start assist. The vehicle is fully available for inspection upon request. During each failure, the vehicle abruptly enters reduced-power “limp mode” without warning—resulting in loss of engine power, disabled awd, and disables all safety/stability systems. These events have occurred in normal traffic, including at red lights and in intersections, creating a risk of rear-end collisions, inability to accelerate, and loss of vehicle control. I transport an autistic child, making reliability and predictable vehicle behavior critical to passenger safety as well. The problem has been reproduced and documented by multiple authorized Honda dealerships. The vehicle has now undergone 13 repair attempts in the first 14 months of ownership, across 6 different Honda dealerships. All have been unable to diagnose or permanently repair the defect. The vehicle has been repeatedly inspected by Honda technicians, who escalated the issue to Honda tech line. Tech line documents (dated 10/1/25) show that no aftermarket modifications exist and that the failure is verified but intermittent and ongoing. Warning lamps / symptoms: each failure event triggers a full dashboard sweep including: – awd system problem – emissions system problem – transmission system problem – power steering system problem – vehicle stability assist problem – hill start assist problem – brake system warning – road departure mitigation problem – blind spot information system problem there is a federal lawsuit filed filed in oregon district court case 6:25-cv-02142-ap.
