I have already submitted a report here and never had any follow up and I don't see it in the reported complaints section of this website with newer incidents already showing so I know it isn't that there is a back log. My car caught on fire while I was in the car, asleep. I have reports from the fire department, I have struggled with Hyundai for months and ultimately was denied any assistance due to I was missing one of two service records. The fire report clearly stated that fire started in the cabin of the car not the engine so a lack of an oil change shouldn't have been the reason this happened. This event has traumatized me and continues to be an enormous burden on me and my family and their lack of caring is beyond disheartening. I easily could have died that day, by all accounts I should have. I would greatly appreciate some sort of follow-up as I feel like I'm just being completely ignored and discredited. I would gladly provide more information as to the actual incident if needed but like I said I have already done so in another report and don't want to do it again if it's just going to be ignored a second time.

1. The engine loses power at different random times, for no apparent or obvious reason. This loss of power has happened at low and high speeds. Nothing seems to proceed the loss of power, it can happen at interstate speeds and at low speeds such as 25mph zones. 2. Driver side seat belt does lot stay latched. It unlatches when any pressure at all is applied.

Was driving on the highway to a friends house, while I was driving a another vehicle was telling me to pull over and that there was smoke and fire underneath the car, I pulled over and crossed the bridge where there was light, once I got across I got out of the car and saw fire coming from the hood, I tried to put it out and that didn't work, so the good samaritan who told me to pull over told me to get my son and get in her car because there was no way to save the car. As soon as we drove away the car exploded not even two mins later. Insurance has inspected and claimed it a total loss, they didn't state how the fire started besides it is a total loss, now the car is totaled, insurance is paying part of it and I am working on the gap coverage to get them all the information we need and since the loan is more than what the care is worth I have no money to finance another vehicle or able to get financing especially since interest rates are so high. I have attached some pictures, it started in the engine is what it seems, once got out of the car, looked underneath and there was something leaking underneath, lost baby stuff, carseat base, stroller, formula just got earlier in the day, diapers damaged. Alot was smoke damaged that was in the trunk.

Purchased in January 2023 with 99k miles. Performed oil change on day 1. Checked fluid levels every 1500 miles, noticed oil was low, ( no smoking, no burning oil smell, no idea where oil was going?) began adding oil, and checking every 500 miles. Always about 1/4 quart low. Changed oil, and filter every 3000 miles. At approximately 119k, started hearing a small ticking sound, was told to use better gas, so began using premium gas. Didn't change the ticking. At 120k tick became a loud knock, after new oil/filter change (I changed oil early at approximately 1800 miles to try to alleviate tick. Decided to drive to mechanic shop when engine light came on and showed knock sensor code. I bought a knock sensor and replaced old one. Shop says rod bearing is causing to noise, and asked to see old oil which I keep in new oil containers. After I change, to dispose of at auto store. Bottom of oil containers was full of fine metal. Tell me the engine might have recall. However 2012 Accent 1. 6 gdi I not on recall, but 2012 veloster is, among others that use the same engine. I believe the recall on other vehicles is due to exactly what's happed to mine. Why is the 2012 Accent GS not included in the recalls for engine replacement? I've emailed huyndia of America, and they say I am responsible for fixing the engine? I feel no amount of maintenance would have kept this from happening. I've thought maybe if check engine light had come on when ticking first started I could have taken car to dealer and that tick might not have became rod bearing clanking, and knocking? please help to add 2012 Accent to recall. Ive read many other stories describing the same problem. Thank you.

This car has a gdi engine, which is now known to be defective due to excessive oil consumption. I bought the car used, with Hyundai's certified inspection before selling it to me. While my daughter was driving the car on the highway, the engine suddenly balked and stopped. She pulled over to the side of the road and called for assistance. As I write this, there is still no recall on anything pertaining to the car. The mechanic said that the catalytic converter was destroyed. Oil consumption had damaged and then destroyed it, which was becoming a known thing about the gdi engines. Hyundai refuses to acknowledge the problem officially, but there is anecdotal information that some drivers with gdi engines are being given new, replacement engines to keep everything under the radar. Note: the first catalytic converter went bad before the 100,000 mile warrantee, but Hyundai said that the warrantee didn't cover it. I called a local dealer for an inspection; they told me that they had no one in the bays and they'd call me back. I never received any call back. I cannot afford to buy a new car, so I had a new catalytic converter installed. As predicted, the replacement converter was destroyed, also by oil consumption. I had to replace that one after the warrantee expired. I am now driving on a third catalytic converter, and suspect that it will be destroyed in about another year or so. Meanwhile, I've passed the warrantee period, and Hyundai never even took a look at it before the expiration time. My mechanic told me that Hyundai is trying to keep this quiet, because it would cost them a huge amount of money to replace those gdi engines. Meanwhile, there is a danger that if someone has that engine and doesn't know to keep pouring oil into it, they could seize up on the highway and crash. And they'll have to replace catalytic converters if the engine is not fixed or changed.

At 100,000mi the piston rod bearings failed. We have kept up with oil changes, etc. So this is very strange. It seems to be a common problem with Hyundai gdi engines, but our engine (1. 6l non-turbo) is not part of the massive recall/lawsuit for this exact issue on 2. 0l cars. Clearly the same design flaw exists for the 1. 6l.

I was driving home with my children from the store, when my car started smoking, shut off, and the engine caught on fire. That when he change everything around so Hyundai absolutely suck. No check engine light come on due to my financial situation im unable to pay the high fees for a diagnostic test. So I keep oil in the car and don't get on the highway. . . . .

On 02/18/2023 at approximately 5pm, my family was driving on the highway, when unexpectedly, my check engine starts flashing and there is a noticeable decrease in acceleration and my vehicle feels rough/jerking as I head to the nearest exit. My spouse checks the vehicle and believes it is a spark plug/coil issue and we head to the nearest auto parts. The store rep is able to confirm engine misfire on all 4 cylinders, which does seem to indicate that spark plugs/coils should be replaced. We replace the plugs and coils, yet the replacement does not correct the problem. On 02/21/2023, I am able to have a certified mechanic diagnose my vehicle and he performs a compression test and confirms that 3 cylinders are at slightly lower psi, and the 4th is at 0 psi. Unknown to me, this means my engine needs to be replaced. The mechanic provides additional information that there are known issues with Hyundai engines and recommends I contact dealer, as he has also had a number of Hyundai owners with the same issue. I did further research and I discovered that my specific vehicle is not included in any current recalls. Yet I also discovered that there is an open class action lawsuit to expand the recall, which appears to include the engine in my vehicle. I did contact the Hyundai consumer affairs on 02/21/2023 and I am directed to contact my nearest Hyundai service center. I contacted the Hyundai dealership in auburn, wa yet after my initial contact the representative fails to return my messages or follow-up. As this appears to be an ongoing issue with certain Hyundai vehicles, I want to make sure that there is a record of this incident for your review. The one ongoing issue I can confirm is that my vehicle appeared to burn oil. Although, it was inconvenient, I was able to get top offs at jiffy lube.

The 2019 Accent runs amazingly well, oil changes on point and no light have gone on since purchase date. 2 weeks ago on a Thursday, it started knocking and took to have checked and was told to take to Hyundai of inland empire/tow it/do not drive. Mr. Bushey at hyudai verifed I need a new motor/engine and it will cost from 6k-8k . I now have a case number and the dealer is communicating with Hyundai of America/not sure what department. The car has 84k miles and the motor should not be faulty. I have been renting a car for 2 weeks, have no vehicle as a loaner and very concerned about why this original engine would just stop? the dealer did verify it is the motor and I am still pending feedback ***** I have provided all service records to Hyundai of inland empire ******.

The engine has been consuming excessive amounts of oil since the vehicle was purchased used in Aug 2022. Eventually during normal highway driving the engine made a loud knock, lost all power, and all of the oil began spilling out of the engine creating a large oil slick on the highway. The sudden lose of engine power led to difficulty steering and braking to move the vehicle to the shoulder of the road.

Right after an oil change the oil light came on and the engine started making noises. Took it to a mechanic and they said the car lost pressure in cylinder 3 and he had 4 other kias and Hyundais with the same exact problem in the same exact cylinder. $6000 to fix. . .

The recall issue showed at the inspection center and this vehicle has not been in an incident.
