I was in motion and my emergency brake did not work . I continue down hill and to avoid on coming traffic,,I turn to the right to hit the fence. My air bags never open. Tha k god I always were my seat belts.
My air bags never work and my engine is starting to become a problem.
Srs light illuminated while driving on a city street. Obd has determined that the driver's front airbag clock spring has failed. Vehicle has 72,175 miles. This part is a known high failure item and the warranty has been extended to 15 years for 2011-2013 sonata, 2011-2014 sonata hybrid and certain 2011-2014 Elantra. The warranty extension does not cover my 2013 Elantra gt.
Airbag warning light illuminated for months and will not turn off. Every once in a while it randomly goes away but then comes back on soon after. This is a safety issue if the airbag is not functioning properly and this safety system defect needs to be recalled and fixed for free. Also, I have replaced my brake lights 3 times in the last few years but as soon as I do a different tail/brake light goes out. What seems to be an electrical issue is also a hazard and safety issue if my brake lights cannot illuminate indicating braking.
Red light with airbag picture stays on in the dash under the gauges. It comes on and stays on during driving with seat belts fastened and everything secured. Might be indicating some sort of malfunction in safety airbag system.
Whenever I start my car, I receive a mechanical error in the display. There is also a popping noise in my steering wheel when the vehicle is either stationary or moving, and I was told this is a safety issue. I noticed that there are at least 76 other complaints on this issue.
Seat belt warning litht is one in red all the time, is related to air bag.
Air bag dashboard light at first was flashing and now remains on solid every time vehicl is started. This is a common problem with similar models from 2010 to now. This is a serious safety issue that should be handled as a recall instead of leaving the consumer to address the problem.
Intermittent engine light illumination. Happens only after the "vehicle check in progress". Car has started to run rough both while accelerating and at a stop. Acts like it will shut off. Having to put the car in neutral and pat the gas to keep it running. There is a TSB for this issue but no active recall. Constant run around at the service centers. They say its normal for it to run rough. Also the rubber steering coupler went bad. Was making a thud noise when steering wheel was turned. Also a TSB for this. . . . No recall. But wait theres more! the clock spring is also bad! TSB for this too! bad clock spring results in the loss of power to the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel. When I replaced the steering coupling, I forgot to plug in a wiring harness under the wheel and the buttons started working again but had no power steering. Plugged the harness back in and had steering but the buttons no longer worked. Pretty sure Hyundai is uploading error codes and giving people the run around in an attempt to get more money. Recall this crap already before something bad happens. Hold this company responsible for selling crap to people.
I am not sure if this is related to takata recall. But the electronics controlling the air bag and cruise control are not functioning! the poor design of the steering covers squeeze the wires that are bent into the connector causing these circuits not to function. At this point, the red light for the air-bag is on all the time which means the it will not deploy causing serious damage. This steering cover design is common on all Elantra models so we suspect the problem could impact significant number of cars. I managed to test the problem, but pulling the cover off and testing the wires. When the cover is pull away from the body of the steering, the circuit for the cruise control works! Hyundai should re-locate the plug where these wires are connected further lower to avoid these wires getting squeezed. And for the current models, a shorter connector could remedy this problem by preventing the wires from getting squeezed.
Tl-the contact owned a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the rear driver side tire had a blow out, lost control of the vehicle fishtailing to the middle of the highway, got stroke by a vehicle in the rear, coliding with the guard rail none of the frontal air bags deployed. The police was present an a report was issued. The contact was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The contact had a fracture clavicle. Treated and released. The vehicle was destroyed. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 121,000. Bp.
At less than 5 years of use the "clock-spring" located in the steering column became "defective" causing the srs idiot light to illuminate and indicating the entire srs system is shutdown. This vehicle is less than 5 years of age with a defective critical safety component failure that Hyundai refuses to cover for any reason other than force by government agency. This component is not external but rather well protected and not susceptible to fluids, or external forces other than its normal operation of simply turning with the steering wheel. This component connects the steering wheel airbag to the srs system however instead of simply disabling the steering wheel airbag, it's failure disables all the airbags as well as any other safety device connected to the srs system. Through no fault of the owner or the operator of the vehicle, the srs system can shutdown while driving with no audible indication other than a small idiot light on the dash which can easily be unnoticed. If a crash situation occurs, the operator of the vehicle can be seriously injured or killed due to no airbag deployment. I contend this part in this vehicle has been poorly designed and manufactured and becomes defective long before the vehicle has been removed from service. This part, at the very least, should be paid for by Hyundai. Furthermore a study of existing clock-springs used by this manufacturer should be studied as this is not a first for this part and this manufacturer. Attachment doc shows repair, part number, and cost of repair. Furthermore, this item should not be a mileage warranty part. . . The life of this part is based on how many times the steering wheel is turned, not how many miles the car is driven. . A city car will have much more turns than a highway vehicle.
Hyundai has recalled certain model years Elantras to due a defective steering wheel clock spring. However, Hyundai will not honer this recall for the exact same failure in the Elantra gt models of the same year. These models utilize the same part! failure of this part prevents the drivers airbag from deploying. This is a massive safety failure!.
I had a rear tire blowout causing the car to stop rapidly causing me to hit my face on the steering wheel so hard I got knocked out . My foot pressed on the gas and I hit a parked car. And my airbags never deployed. Insurance didn't pay my claim because it wasy falt I hit a parked car. Because I was knocked out. I don't remember anything about 30 seconds before the accident. Had my airbags worked maybe I could have remembered what really happened. When the collusion center inspected my car they said a defect in the car was the cause of my accident. But the insurance already denied the claim. The yellow tab was the airbag sensor.
Braking difficulties and air bags structure.
My 19 year old daughter was in an accident on April 9th 2016 in her 2013 Hyundai Elantra. . Both vehicles were at a dead stop at an intersection before either of them started moving. My daughter was going straight and the other vehicle was turning, both of which were going approximately 10 mph. My daughters car hit the front fender of the other vehicle causing a bent wheel and a small dent to the fender. My daughters Hyundai, totaled. Every airbag in the Hyundai deployed, including the back seat which seemed strange since it was a frontal crash. The transmission wouldn't go in to any other gear it was stuck in drive. The hood was smashed up to the front windshield. The damage to the car was over $12,000 there has to be some faulty part(s) or equipment on the car to cause such damage at such low speeds. I can't imagine what could happen at highway speeds in a crash in a Hyundai. I wrote to Hyundai about safety concerns of their Hyundai Elantras, their response was unacceptable: "we understand that you are dissatisfied with the design of the 2013 Elantra and we apologize for any disappointment this has caused you. This information has been forwarded to all appropriate parties within Hyundai for review, including Hyundai management. " really Hyundai! people can be severely injured or die in these vehicles which I feel Hyundai needs to be a little more concerned.
My son had an accident on the street where we live coming home one night, he fell asleep and he ran into a parked pick up on the right side of the street and the had lots of front end damage, the car was a total loss. He hit his face on the steering wheel during the accident, the air bag(s) did not deploy. My son's face was horribly swollen, he also ended up with a blacken, blood shot eye as well and I had to take him to the doctor to seek medical treatment.
Driver was making a left turn into a parking space on 2nd floor of parking garage. As the left turn was made, the Elantra gt suddenly accelerated by itself into a wall, hitting a pole and the wall. Hyundai is investigating. Dealer is useless. Right now unsure how to proceed. Exterior can be fixed, but what about the problem?.
Did not go off.
Vehicle 1-(Jaguar 2004) traveling eastbound at 1000 north loop e. Driving towards exit lane. Vehicle 2-(Hyundai Elantra 2013) traveling east bound at 1000 north loop e. In lane #4. Vehicle 3 (box truck) traveling east bound at 1000 north loop e in lane #3. Vehicle 1's fd struck the fixed object (plastic barrels divider/concrete wall) and the vehicle rolled from right to left and slid across lanes of traffic and vehicle 1's fd struck vehicle 2's fd and vehicle 1's fd struck vehicles vehicle 3's fr. Vehicle 1 received a citation for failure to drive in a single lane. Vehicle 2-Hyundai Elantra was totaled out by insurance and the bags never deployed during the accident. Emergency personnel on the scene asked why they did not deploy.
When I was sideswiped and then he drove down the whole left side of my car the airbags did not go off. I went up a some hill and hit cable box and still no airbags my back door was on the street afterwards. The front drivers door was pushed in about 3-5 inches and still not airbags they say he did not hit me in the right spot. Some of the front and rear bumper is missing to. I am not sure where he needed to hit me if we have 6 airbags that should go off then why no airbags . I have seen less damage to a car and there airbags go off. I have own Hyundai's for over 14 years and this car sucks . I will never pay again my car is totaled so I am still confused at where my airbags need to be hit to go off.
I was going to work on the morning of 12-3-13. While merging from rt 77 to i480 when I noticed an accident ahead. I slowed down because of the accident and was hit from behind by another car and was pushed into the car in front of me. None of my airbags deployed. I sustained the following injuries: cervical and thoracic strain and sternal contusion. The injuries resulted in medical costs exceeding $15,000. The repair to the vehicle cost $10,500.
Was about 2 tenths of a mile from a stop sign. As I was beginning to make my approach, the car accelerated, lurched forward and sped across a four lane highway before I could react. The car was t-boned on the passengers side. The impact straightened my vehicles trajectory from 90 degrees to about 30 to 45 degrees. I then impacted a guardrail with a somewhat nearly head-on angle. After I went through the guardrail I then impacted a tree head-on which brought the vehicle to a stop. My passenger's side curtain air bags deployed but the front (dash) air bags did not. My passenger received a broken collar bone, fractured rib, scalp lacerations (stitches), a concussion and multiple bruises from head to toe.
The accident happened while I was driving on the freeway with light traffic traveling around 60 mph. It first began when I felt an unbalance of the front right tire. The car suddenly veered to the right regardless of my efforts to maintain control. My car fishtailed for a moments and almost caused me to crash into another car. I had no control of the car when my car crashed into the wall that lined the right side of the freeway. After visually inspecting the wheel, it appeared that the front right rim was cut in a half vertically and all around. It was cut in a near-perfect straight line - similar to what a opened can looks like. The tire remained fully intact without any damage. The body shop mechanics told us that they have never seen the rim cut like that before and said the only explanation would be a defect in the rim. We have pictures and can provide them upon request. The body shop mechanics and insurance adjusters are all clueless to how and why this occurred. Please open an investigation to help us determine the cause. The total estimate of the costs have estimated to be around $14000.
